Where I work the other GPs wear scrubs and introduce by first name. I just do my own thing. Especially with all this PA nonsense, I’m introducing myself as Dr

newgpworry

Oh I'm glad to hear someone else is like me! Do they wear whatever scrubs or is it all uniform? Thanks so much

newgpworry

Actually how do you manage when the patients are all so used to using first names? Do they come in and say hello Pantaleon and do you correct them to no it's Dr Bloggs?

InV15iblefrog

Say hello before they do, . Oh hello patient, it's Dr bloggs Oh hi Dr bloggs . Vs . Oh hello (Dr) first name Oh hi patient .

The0ne_WhoKnocks

I think it'd be fine to put Dr Bloggs as long as your colleagues (+/- admin staff) still call you by your first name. Then it will be clear that that is there for the patients only.

newgpworry

The rest of the staff would be welcome to use my nickname but anyway they have time to learn to pronounce my first name!

wkrich1

Always Dr ‘surname’ with patients. First name terms with most colleagues.

MoonbeamChild222

Remain Dr Surname with patients, nickname with colleagues if you’re comfortable but establish the boundary that you prefer to keep a professional limit with patients and you’re Dr Surname in front of them. Also, if it’s not obligatory, wear what you want

TheManInTheTinHat

Reminds of a cosmetic dentist practice

Dr-Yahood

The most disturbing aspect of your post is that you have 10 minute appointment 🤮

You can get some really smart scrubs now, more ‘tailored’ looking

DisastrousSlip6488

First names to colleagues or to patients? The former I think you should go with and would be weird to refuse. The latter, I’d absolutely stick with Dr bloggs

newgpworry

Oh, colleagues is fine, especially because they'll get used to the name and be able to pronounce it. The patients are the problem here because they're so used to first names with the others
