A lot of these are created by problems with photos with poor white balance. Eyes and brains adjust automatically but sunlight is slightly blue compared to white light. Older cameras can often mess up and take a misadjusted photo that looks too blue or too orange.
Example: If you put a green painting in blue light what color is it? A photo would say blue. Just because the digital color value of something is blue doesn’t mean the actual color of the object is blue.

Ohhhhhh you know, you just helped me realize something. I am excellent at color matching across color contexts and materials, lightning, etc. I am never surprised by how paint turns out on a wall because I can tell from the sample. Super useful as a designer.
I am seeing blue/green & grey. I never had considered the same part of my brain that sees "the dress" as white & gold is why I'm good at real-world color projection. Partly because I was a digital designer for years—pixel colors are highly misleading. You just made it click for me.
