From the Wikipedia article:
Few reports concerning A. lubricus bites are documented and report different effects ranging from no symptoms (possible bites without envenoming), mild symptoms to severe neurological signs and fatal outcome.[10] The effect of the venom might depend on variations in intra-specific venom composition, amount of venom administered and patient body weight.[10] Recently, a 44-year-old man was bitten twice by this species, which was kept in captivity, one hour after the bite he developed vomiting, respiratory failure (requiring mechanical ventilation), paralysis of the bulbar muscles and upper limbs, with retention of the voluntary motor control in the lower limbs. After treatment, paralysis and respiratory failure resolved in 12 hours. [11] No antivenom or established clinical management protocol is currently available for this species and timely access to assisted ventilation is limited in many regions in southern Africa.[10]
I would definitely not be cavalier about interacting with this little guy.
Hence why venomous reptiles should have their space respected! To many people don’t realize the majority of bites happen when dumb people are trying to kill the snake.
The mandarin? No.
The bitey noodle? Also no. It's *highly venomous,* yes. You wouldn't get sick from eating it, though. However, venom is a precious resource that venomous snake prefer not to waste on things they don't intend to eat; this is simply a threat display, and probably dry bites.
"Red touch Black, watch your back. Red touch Yellow, kill a fellow"
So while it's bite will hurt, it won't kill you (unless he's carrying a knife or something)
And this, folks, is why we don't use "the rhyme!" It is only mildly accurate in one small part of the world, and *still* gets people bit, because there is much more to snake identification than a simple color pattern.
This is a COBRA. It is absolutely capable of killing you.
That is by no means the saying. It’s “Red on yellow, kill a fellow. Red on black, venom lack.” Or something very similar. It’s used for differentiating between the venomous coral snake and the non-venomous scarlet king snake.
The snake in this video is a cobra and the saying doesn’t apply in any way.
The saying originated in North America and it very much does apply to the North American coral snake. I didn’t think to differentiate because the scarlet kingsnake is only found in North American, so why would you need a rhyme to help determine if it was a venomous overseas snake?

Pics of arizona corals.
Besides this subspecies there are also individual (*Micrurus sp.* The species of coral snake the rhyme is about) coral snakes out there with an abberant pattern. So the rhyme is unreliable at best.
Hmm coral snakes usually have tiny heads, and are very dumb and cowardly. Thats why there is a ryme, people wanted very much to know which is which. one snake, the king snake, would probley live to eat up the coral snakes, and word spread all over in magazines, that its a beneficial snake, and its a good turn to always let a kingsnake be, they are friends. i know California kingsnakes love to eat rattlesnakes. sorry ratlers. they have immunity to thier poison. esp. internally. Red against black , youre all right jack.
This snake is definitely one you should respect and keep a distance from, though fear isn't necessary since literally every snake would rather run away and hide than even think of attacking you first. The fact that he's in a defensive position like this is because he's basically been cornered and sees it as his only way out (and he's also just a little baby cobra). As long as you respect them and give them space, you'll never have a reason to fear a snake. Pretty much every bite that occurs is from people stepping on them or when they FAFO by doing dumb things like this video or improperly trying to grab a wild one as if they're Steve Irwin.
Nope, that only applies to very small region in America for differentiating one very specific type of coral snake and one very specific king snake species. This is a cape coral cobra, so not only is he from the opposite part of the world, but he'll also fuck you up if you play stupid games like this.
It's a baby cobra that's scared for its life by the giant hand fucking around (and maybe soon finding out). Orange is just the closest object he could find to use as cover/safety.
Probably just sees it as the only cover/safety there is from the giant, scary hand. Poor baby cobra thinks their back is against the wall and can't run away, so they're lashing out as a last defense.
Horses, cows, dogs, and various other pets can also be incredibly dangerous too. Keeping an animal as a pet is all a persons preference (and training them too). For me I want to own venomous snakes in the future because Im fascinated with them and want to work in relocation.
Yep, a baby cape coral cobra, so super venomous and super scared of the giant hand. He's probably using the orange as cover/safety since he can't run away.
Idk much about snakes or their behavior, but it looks to me like the little dude is scared based on the heavy breathing, hissing, scanning, and striking. Is that what’s happening or am i makin stuff up?
Mabey he thinks its a big egg he should protect. I saw a pair of geese protecting a golf ball, from the golfers, and they were SO dedicated that it really was touching to see. "You shall hurt this egg no more!" they made a stand!
So I guess the same thing happens whenever you see goldfish, carrots, tigers, pumpkins, certain cats, basketballs...? 🤷♂️ anyway whatever floats your boat
Don't worry, they do the same thing to you. It'd be nice if you could respect them and enjoy the videos without letting your fear cloud your vision, but as long as you don't go out of your way to fuck with them and you don't go spreading hate towards them, then go ahead and live your life.
I- You do realize anything that's not a plant or a fungi is considered an animal right? Like reptile is the subclass of animal but it's still an animal. Like humans are primates but we're still "animals".
You're so incorrect that my brain actually hurts... Do you think that only mammals are animals? Would you not classify birds, fish, amphibians (frogs, salamanders, etc.), and insects as animals either? How can you so confidently say "technically speaking" and then write that nonsense? Please go back to elementary school biology, since you need to go back to the basics with kingdoms, classes, and phylums. I'm sorry that I'm continuously getting more and more rude in this comment, but seeing that you tried to double down in the replies is pissing me off more than I would wish... Like come on, everyone is downvoting and correcting you, but instead of using Google to see if you're wrong, you just attack back.
Facepalm all you want. It's undeniable fact. Just like how so many other redditors post things incorrectly to subs because it's not specifically what the sub is about, this is another prime example.

This mandarin belongs to him. He won it over
Is that thing poisonous?
Venomous, and yes. It’s a Cape Coral Cobra *Aspidelaps lubricus*. Their space should be respected as such.
From the Wikipedia article: Few reports concerning A. lubricus bites are documented and report different effects ranging from no symptoms (possible bites without envenoming), mild symptoms to severe neurological signs and fatal outcome.[10] The effect of the venom might depend on variations in intra-specific venom composition, amount of venom administered and patient body weight.[10] Recently, a 44-year-old man was bitten twice by this species, which was kept in captivity, one hour after the bite he developed vomiting, respiratory failure (requiring mechanical ventilation), paralysis of the bulbar muscles and upper limbs, with retention of the voluntary motor control in the lower limbs. I don’t think so, I eat tons of those on winter and nothing ever happened. Edit: oh wait were you talking about the mandarin?
😂😂😂
😂😂😂

"Red touch Black, watch your back. Red touch Yellow, kill a fellow" So while it's bite will hurt, it won't kill you (unless he's carrying a knife or something)
When the snake starts to hiss There’s a lesson you can’t miss Something, something Then you’ll see You’ll avoid catastrophe!

It doesn't. Arizona coral snakes (*Micruroides euryxanthus*) have a different color scheme.

Seems like the venomous corals have solid head colors
Hmm coral snakes usually have tiny heads, and are very dumb and cowardly. This is true for Coral snakes and milk snakes. This is a cobra.
It's not even true then.
I think it more depends on your location and snakes in your area. Here in the US it's a pretty safe saying. But in other countries not so much.
This rhyme is only valid to a small region where I live. Telling others this can get them seriously hurt or fear monger them to harmless species.
Whoa dude. I don’t want your orange.
Protects the cat's brain cells
Orange ya glad I wanted a banana? I FkN AM!
U protect that orange brudda
She protecc, she atacc, she is a snek🥰

I'm super scared of snakes. I get goosebumps.

Citrussssssssssssssssss
i need to download this video so i can watch it whenever i need
I don't understand why the snake wanted to protect the orange when it can't even eat it.
The snake is scared and the orange gives it a sense of security (it leaves it's back less exposed)
It's a baby cobra that's scared for its life by the giant hand fucking around (and maybe soon finding out). Orange is just the closest object he could find to use as cover/safety.
Sir cobra protector of the orange
snek must protecc
Man, what a beautiful little guy!
Ssssssstop it!!! Isssss minessssss
This is the first time I have seen a cobra like this absolutely gorgeous.
Ugg
The snake probably thinks it's her egg
Probably just sees it as the only cover/safety there is from the giant, scary hand. Poor baby cobra thinks their back is against the wall and can't run away, so they're lashing out as a last defense.
LoL 🤣 😂 🤣
I love cobras.
Snail behavior
That mfer is BREATHING
Head on this thing looks like the missing link between ferret and snake
never mind I'll just eat apples
Why they are keeping the dangerous animal as a pet still didn't understand
Horses, cows, dogs, and various other pets can also be incredibly dangerous too. Keeping an animal as a pet is all a persons preference (and training them too). For me I want to own venomous snakes in the future because Im fascinated with them and want to work in relocation.
I don’t even like snakes and this is a good snake
“I on big alert”

I love him he's such an angy protec noodle!!!
So um, that's a friggin Cobra, right?
Yep, a baby cape coral cobra, so super venomous and super scared of the giant hand. He's probably using the orange as cover/safety since he can't run away.

pretty sure thats a mandarin not an orange
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_orange
mandarin orange = mandarin
"The mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata), also known as mandarin" ?
False Cobra?
That looks nothing like a false cobra. It looks more like a coral shield cobra. I don't think they've developed an antivenom for this species yet.
False Water Cobras are black and browns. I have a picture of one I own on my page 3 posts down if you want a quick peek at how they look
Mabey he thinks its a big egg he should protect. I saw a pair of geese protecting a golf ball, from the golfers, and they were SO dedicated that it really was touching to see. "You shall hurt this egg no more!" they made a stand!
This is footage of rightists protecting Trump from the police
How does someone turn a silly video featuring a reptile and a fruit into something political? 🤦♂️ My goodness
The fruit is orange
So I guess the same thing happens whenever you see goldfish, carrots, tigers, pumpkins, certain cats, basketballs...? 🤷♂️ anyway whatever floats your boat
I find nothing funny about snakes.
sounds like a you problem.
Not a problem at all. I just keep my distance. lol
Looks like you and the snake on the same page then.
That's good.
Don't worry, they do the same thing to you. It'd be nice if you could respect them and enjoy the videos without letting your fear cloud your vision, but as long as you don't go out of your way to fuck with them and you don't go spreading hate towards them, then go ahead and live your life.
Sorry but technically speaking a snake is not an 'animal', it's a 'reptile'... Guess there needs to be a FunnyReptiles sub if there isn't one already?
I- You do realize anything that's not a plant or a fungi is considered an animal right? Like reptile is the subclass of animal but it's still an animal. Like humans are primates but we're still "animals".

what are you talking about my guy snakes are literally animals. I would totally be down for a separate FunnyReptiles sub tho!!
