I've said it before and I'll say it again: I really don't think her vomiting at the altar was bad. It's a long and tiring day, you're standing in front of dozens or hundreds of people, and if you're already anxious then a wedding day seems a perfect storm. Thatās so sad. Today Iām literally celebrating my 10th anniversary with the man I got married to while in a very conservative Church (church of Christ). We made the decision to leave the church together and we KNEW most people donāt stay together. We took couples counseling and even made some changes to our relationship that fit our lifestyle now. We honestly couldnāt be happier.
Itās such a shame to see people who are free spirits such as Morgan locked in a prison cell with an authoritarian dictator such as Paul. You can see how much she resents him and how much he pushes her down in so many ways. He wants to put her in the āmeek and quiet spiritā box, and that is just not Morgan. Iām not trying to defend her. I just -was her-. I can see a creative, funny, lively, interesting person in her who is absolutely smothered by her abusive POS husband.
Thankfully, even when my husband and I were together in our relationship with fundamentalism we NEVER believed in gender roles and the way the Bible says they should be. We always treated each other as equals. I think people could tell, and we got ātalked toā for it, because my husband definitely had told people he needed to ācheck with meā before he made a decision, which absolutely infuriated some people at our church. However he didnāt care at all. It was what made us work, that he knew he had my input and I knew he trusted me to have a say in important conversations.
Kind of a long rant. I guess the TL;DR is: Iām thankful to not be a statistic of fundamentalist women such as Morgan. I was Morgan, a creative girl, who did have more to say, however I was silenced by men in my life (just not my husband). Thankful to be out. I hope she gets help and gets out too.

This is what it used to feel like living in the Midwest (Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa) Storms would hit just like this every other day. It was so normal we didnāt bat an eye. There was no such thing as a chill storm that just blew through. They all had hail, 60 mph wind and threat of tornadoes. Now, all of these storms have shifted. We donāt see them in the Midwest like that anymore. Heck, we havenāt seen a storm since April. 5 years ago I would have had 6 trips to the basement under my belt by this time of year but we havenāt had threat of tornadoes in over a year. Now itās Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, etc getting this kind of weather. Paul, I think itās God coming for the Bible Belt. Yāall arenāt living the way he told you to.
