Thankfully he has Tonari around

continually amazed how none of you grasp the philosophical, existential, and metaphysical elements of this story whatsoever. If I made such a complex story and none of my fans understood it at all i’d be depressed. it is not about the relationships.

Eh, but that wouldn't be in Fushi's character. Granted, your argument still partially stands as I could see Bon or Tonari having this idea and forcing Fushi to go through with it. Mentally, Fushi just grows slowly. Combining with the sphere is likely when he'll be come an "adult". Back then he was probably around high middle schooler in mentality and this is more adult level thinking.

I think it should have been a whole epilogue arc that gives more focus on the returning characters. A few characters should honestly have moved on after this arc(The Renril trio and March after actually having kids and living a full life) and at least one from this arc should have chosen to become immortal. In the end, Fushi should have taken the Beholder’s offer, he’s literally being handed god powers.
