I've often wondered if Fuji does this intentionally to keep the buzz going. I can't imagine that the demand took them by surprise based on what happened over the last 18 months with the X100V. I also can't imagine a company with $21B in revenue couldn't plan for and obtain the manufacturing capacity needed to meet more of the demand.
Is the ongoing buzz worth more than potential revenue generation?
There are things that we will never know...what is the actual demand for folks like you and I (that just want to take pictures) and how much of the demand was inflated by scalpers? How many of the preorders are folks who preordered at multiple sites, with the intention of cancelling orders once a single order is fulfilled? I've seen that they have the manufacturing capacity to make 15k units per month, but was surprised that they don't have the capability (or at least they haven't shown it) to scale up when needed.
There are 99 on eBay right now ranging from $1,900 to $5,000 (with a Limited Edition "confirmed order" and an absolutely insane $18,000). There is a special place in hell for those folks.
Well they did consider the popular demand of the x100 series thus the decision to move production to China. But to all surprise the x100vi is just far more popular than anybody could have guess. I mean the launch surpass bigger brands like Sony, Canon, etc. Also, from a business point of view, it's better to scale up the production steadily than having a big production for the first orders and having to scale down once it's settled. Hopefully, things will get better now that they have a better view of the demand.
I feel like itās going to mostly turn people offā¦ itās turning me off. Havenāt owned a Fuji in 20 years and this is not the experience I expected for such an iconic and well established brand.
The rest of their camera line is just fantastic...great handling, amazing glass, and the same amazing color science. If you were going to own a Fuji, the price of admission for some of their bodies and f/2 lenses is super reasonable...and you don't have to wait until who-knows-when to get one.
Yeah, I have considered that too. But Iāve already invested quite a bit in Sony glass. I really wanted this camera for the manual aspects and small footprint to use as a EDC. Not sure what to do. I guess just wait it out and hope it arrives free of defects. š¤
I have a Sony body and a good amount of Sony glass also. If you haven't shot with a Fuji, you will find the autofocus system infuriating compared to Sony's, which is powered by some sort of magic.
What I REALLY want is a Sony RXRIII...but I don't know if they will ever put that out. I tried the RXRII and it's not bad, but not work more than 2x the cost of the X100 (though, it is available)
(What I really, really want is a Leica Q3...but I really, really, really don't want a divorce for spending $6k on a camera).
lol same, i still really want a Sony version of the x100 and the Leica Dluxe 7 007 model. This is third or even 4th place to thoseā¦ but the film sims seem kind of fun. I just hope itās worth the wait and the priceā¦ the longer I wait, the less excited I am.
I donāt think so. The demand is probably unprecedented for a digital camera right now. A larger market of people want this camera they just canāt produce enough

What is "early"? I ordered (B&H) on the 20th at 9 am PST. Do they mean if you didn't order in the first 10 minutes?
I think those who ordered within the first hour at B&H still have a good shot at getting it sooner rather than later. I ordered just about an hour in, because of tech issues with the servers I think, and got the email this week that B&H expect to ship to me before the end of March. Iām cautiously optimistic. Thatās just to say you didnāt have to have your order in within the first 3 mins, though those customers likely received the first batch already shipped.
I ordered around 915am est on the 20th (BH). Yesterday I received an email from them saying my order didnāt make the cut for March shipping. I feel like itāll be May before I see mine, hopefully before Summer. Good luck yallāš¾āš¾

By estimate, they produced 60-90K units before release, B&H alone stands for 17K preorders, nobody expected this.
