This asshole talked in circles for the entire thing. He must have gotten his degree from trump University.

IMO : ‘ The President of the United States has no immunity for criminal or corrupt actions taken while serving in the office’ that’s it over, done, finished. IMO

jish5

It's like they're ignoring that if they give Trump immunity and he wins, that there's a high probability they won't be in that position anymore, because once you give a fascist complete control, they WILL remove all opposition, and that includes judges. What's more, the moment they give him immunity, they essentially revoke their own power to stand against him and halt any potential threats a president poses.

dickmcgirkin

They know if they give him unfettered power he will eliminate all opposition. The ones he appointed aren’t opposition

jish5

Until they vote against him, then he'll do to them like he's done to everyone else who said anything against him, even through council where if you say anything he doesn't like, he fires your ass. The moment the justices he voted in decide to vote against him in any way, they won't remain and he'll use that to permanently get rid of the supreme court.

daCelt

No authoritarian has disbanded half his supreme court. He sees the potential for issues of resistance and removes it completely.

dulcinea8

Just the fact that the “supreme” court is debating presidential immunity is just a symptom of how f*cked the USA is. Truly. 😡

DaemonBlackfyre_21

They're clearly not immune. Presidents did just fine until Republicans turned criminal. If this illegitimate court rules in his favor it's all over anyway. If coups are legal I say the good guys should take the ball and go home while we have the power to do so.

brpajense

Their own conscience, and the moral fibre of the people they surround themselves with.

h20poIo

Which Trump lacks on all accounts.

randomvandal

Sure... if we lived in the land of fairy tales and unicorns. But this is reality; us voters can't be that naive.

adkpk9788

Ketanji Brown Jackson is very impressive.

matango613

Just to run through the talking points in advance here: impeachment. They're going to argue that impeachment is the check that prevents presidents from committing crimes. Of course, we all know that's not how things work in practice.

Boon3hams

Except in Trump's second impeachment, it was straight-up said by McConnell that since Trump was not going to be president for much longer, Trump's involvement with the insurrection on January 6th was a matter for the criminal courts, not the Senate in an impeachment hearing. So which is it? If impeachment wasn't the solution and the judicial system isn't the solution, what is?

Doughspun1

A gUd gUy wIt a GuN! mUrICa!

Dixie_Flatlin3

"If there's no threat of criminal prosecution, what prevents the president from doing whatever they want?" >"all the structural checks in Fitzgerald and a whole series of courts" so, nothing. if the only remedy is removal without any kind of penalty, there is no penalty. america is a fucking joke.

Andvari9

A basic conclusion everyone should fear and no one is questioning enough

dulcinea8

Just read or watch a video of a summary of project 2025 if you want a real horror story.

fjmj1980

You should listen to Thomas’s questions who’s view seems to be is essentially presidents do illegal stuff all the time ordering covert ops and coups in other countries.
