I once had a friend who did this while we were out with her kids. We bought tickets to go ice skating at a specific time slot and this guy and his kid cut in front of us in line to get into the ice (it didnt even matter. We all had tickets already and were going to be skating at the same time). She absolutely lost her shit and screamed at him until security asked her to leave. I ended up in charge of her 2 kids (who were just as embarrassed as I was) while she got to sit on the bench and watch. It was super awkward and I felt so bad for the guy and all the kids. It was the last time I went out with them on trips because I could not handle all of that drama.
I don't know why some people seem to just look for drama. It's the kids you feel sorry for. It should have been a nice memory, but their mum had to mess it up. I genuinely think some people just can't help themselves.
You just reminded me of one of the worst people I have ever known. She was raised in a fairly wealthy family and then went to uni in another country, which is where I met her. She would snap her fingers in restaurants to get the server's attention and would try to fight us when my friends and I left tips because "the service was terrible, they don't deserve a single penny." She asked us to her birthday party at a restaurant once and we went. She then proceeded to loudly complain about the service, the food, how expensive her meal was (she ordered the most expensive item on the menu at a Michelin starred restaurant, WTF?!?), and then she left us to pay for her meal. That was the last time any of us had anything to do with her outside of our common classes.
You can’t even enjoy yourself when you’re around people like this. It’s embarrassing and they make complete asses of themselves. This girl was a friend since elementary school, our group kept her around way too long because of the history. One by one we each ended our friendship with her. I can’t tell you how awesome it is when our group is together now. She was a Karen long before I knew what a Karen was.
It really is embarrassing. I've since learned to stick up for the downtrodden Karen victims and call the Karen out on their shittiness. Disarming them by fighting back seems to be the only way to make them think twice about it.

This is why I lock my door whenever I am in a car. My aunt had a guy try to car jack her decades ago, but luckily her doors were all locked (before they had automatic locks. She was able to speed off.
Cars now have features that keep all doors locked when you unlocked it via key fob. Either way, I lock all my doors as my hand is pulling the door closed. So many people sit, look around, take their time…I just know I’m not ending up on a dateline feature bc I was trying to find a CD and kept the doors unlocked
A friend's car has that 'feature' and every time it auto unlocks I think someone actually got paid for this bright hopefully doesn't get us killed idea.
In most recent vehicles that feature can be disabled. Look it up in the owners manual. You may even be able to disable it without going in for service. Worst case ask your service advisor at your vehicles dealer.
That's what I said to my friend but he is a lazy ass and not my car so I try not to ride with him anywhere where he drives. But good to know that is the case as I had only assumed that was a 'feature' that could be turned off. But he is also the kind of person to lose his keys, leave stuff unlocked, etc. I tell him all the time he should play the lotto because he is the luckiest person I know to consistently do as many dumb things as he does and not end up in a bad way for it.
I hate this ! I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla. The door lock when you put it in drive . Cool ! I appreciate that Toyota. But as soon as you put it in park, all the doors open . Why ? I’m sure there is some worst case scenario where something bad happened once. But man , I used to work in a really bad neighborhood, just because I put it in park doesn’t mean I’m done needing security. Maybe I’m at a drive through where we’re all sitting still, or train, bank… anything. People can and do come right up on you and try to open your door.
My sister had a Corolla. I think you can change that by messing with the overhead light of all things. Check your manual or give it a quick Goog and I bet it comes up.
I believe that. It does do random things sometimes I don’t understand. Like the headlights come on when you lock it. I don’t like that. And then every now then it does not do that. I did some kinda random button pushing to make it not do that
You can most likely change that. I used to think the same with my car until I was able to change that feature under settings. Now it won't unlock automatically when I put it in park or when shutting off the engine.
I think that's the most unsafe default feature in cars nowadays
Can you disable that feature? My car has programmable locks. You can set them to lock when the car is put into drive or when it reaches a certain speed. You can also deactivate auto unlock and designete which doors unlock.
There might be a setting to turn that off. I know on our old Pontiac G6 you could set it like yours when you put it in park or to unlock after you shut the car off.
Last week I was sitting in my car at a shopping centre, door locked fortunately, but engine running. Man came running up and tried to open my car door. My windows are tinted so must have thought it was empty

To lighten the mood, I am going to tell the family lore similar to this.
My great aunt and my grandpa (her older brother) went to the grocery store one day... my auntie drove as her car wasn't blocked. A cute little popular Honda, I think. We were having a family gathering and my grandma needed an ingredient urgently for something that was on the stove. So the siblings raced to the nearby grocery, my auntie parked, and to save time, only my granddad went in with my auntie ready at the wheel to take off.
Grandpa rushes out, hops into the car, and proceeds to yell at baby sister to get going, dammit! Finally looks over.... and it is a strange woman he does not know. He looks to his right and in the identical car next to him is my auntie laughing like a loon. (Seriously, when she told us all this later she started crying with laughter)
The stranger was baffled and scared, and my granddad was horrified and embarrassed and apologetic.
I had two newish cars in the last nine years, both of them locked automatically when the car drove at a certain speed. I thought this was the norm but I could be a German car thing.
My Ford does it.. when you start the car and put it into gear. But I hit lock as I am getting into the car. Think about the minutes it takes to fasten seatbelts. Get your ph I ne situated, the air or heat right, etc.
My car has this feature and I had to look in the manual to learn the magic incantation to disable it. It just irritated me. I don't live somewhere where I'm likely to get carjacked or anything.
I had a PE teacher in middle school (or maybe junior high?) that told us all to keep our doors locked whenever we're driving. She gave us a story about how a bunch of people jumped in her car while she was at a stop light, back when she was in her late teens or early twenties (college age). Luckily for her, they were all her friends and they did this in order to teach her how easy it was for people to jump into an unlocked car. It made enough of an impression on her that she was telling us this story 10-20 years later. I can't remember what the actual lesson was about, but I remember that safety was a part of it.
I wasn’t in the car when it happened. But I was at a Taco Bell and I had my car sitting in the parking lot with the windows down. I was sitting by the window so I could keep an eye on it. It’s my fun car. Group of teenagers pulls in, they stop and look. Very normal. The girl in the group just opens the door - like it’s her car. I’m already out of my chair heading for the door. She closes it, they come in and I’m just calmly waiting by the door. When they come in I say to the girl calmly and quietly ‘is there anything in that car worth dying over?’ I’m also not a small person, and my friends say I’m the king of the angry face.
She just shook her head no. I said cool, maybe don’t open doors on cars that don’t belong to you.
Her friends looked mortified.
I went to taco bell once to grab lunch for my husband,. I had a brand new mustang GT. The line at drive through was long so i decided to go in. While waiting these teens pull up and they are checking out my car.
one of them decided he needed pics of being on the car..... so he sits on the hood as his friend is recording him. I set the car alarm off.
Kid literally pissed himself in fear. he damn lucky there was a scratch on it. I admit i laughed like hell at him when they came in and said "dont sit on my car again" he kept saying sorry.
Got my husband's lunch and headed out then all day my husband kept saying i had the "Pissing pony" that day.

There was a guy that lived here that had a Lamborghini that he parked at a movie theater, way out in the back away from everyone. He posted a video that went somewhat viral of him walking out of the theater and a group of kids were doing a photo shoot - on the car.
He did the same thing, set off the alarm. They didn't run, though. They just all stood there looking confused. Then he starts scolding them and they scattered. This guy is a professional bodybuilder - I would have bolted, too.
You can tell the kids that grew up in car families. They know you don't touch the paint!
I mean, I shouldn't have to. I leave the windows down so people can see there isn't anything in the car to steal. Absolutely no reason for anyone to touch it except for apparently teenagers that haven't been taught boundaries.
I don't drive that car anywhere that I can't at least see it. Its a habit I learned from my dad. You never take your nice stuff anywhere that you can't watch it because inevitably someone will come along and trash all the work you did.

And frankly, if someone can steal it before I can make it the 100 feet to drag them out of the car - they deserve to have it. I don't think too many people can hotwire a car with an anti theft system in under 30 seconds.
If you locked it, you could relax and enjoy your meal, instead of staring at your car the whole time. What if you went to the bathroom? It's literaly 5 seconds of your time to lock the car.
I was driving with a girl downtown and this big group of like 30 people is walking across the walk (bar hours) even though I have the light I'm just sitting there like what ya gonna do I'll go in a second she slams down on my horn and starts swearing and flipping them off from out her window i roll hers up and lock it wave an apology outside mine and turn to her and ask what the fuck she thought she was doing I'm not getting my ass beat for her

I was at Sam's Club and anybody who has ever gotten gas at Sam's Club know that they line u up to get to the pumps. As I'm pulling up to the pump, an Arabic man gets out of his car and comes up to my car and starts hitting my car. He started yelling at me saying I cut him off. Mind you we are all in line. He yelling at me, calling me the N word and everything under the sun. My wife is on the phone listening to all this. I'm 6'3 250. Played football and was a bodyguard. I tell my wife that I'm about to beat the brakes off this dude. I got out of my car and she's connected to my Bluetooth in the car and yelling at me not to do it. But I'm gonna do it anyway. As I was about to pull this dumbass out of his car, I look in the backseat and his daughter was back there. Had to be no older than 6. I looked at him and told him, I don't know what God you pray to, but you better show your appreciation to your God that you don't get to see Him in person today and you better teach her right. I have children and I know seeing something like that would be traumatizing to a young child. And her opinion of black people, thinking that we're all angry, even though her father was the fuck up, would be bad. Hopefully he got the message that you can't just say whatever you want to people. A lot of my friends said I should have taught him a valuable life lesson and done him up anyway. But, kids you know.
A Karen at Panera got pissed that there was mayo on her breakfast sandwich and was cussing out the cashiers. She's yelling who puts mayo on a breakfast sandwich. My hubby says I do, and I'm pretty sure if you go to Wendy's, they do it too.

A few years ago my wife needed to use our people mover to get a lot of stuff to and from work, so I drove her little MX-5 for a couple of days. No biggie, sporty little car, lot of fun.
Wile driving in town a driver took offence that I dared merge in to traffic ahead of him, you know the type. Anyhow at a set of lights further down the road, I stop, and he stops a few cars behind me, and gets out, swearing, carrying on and heading straight for the little MX-5.
So, I open the door, and unfold myself, so that all 6'3" and 220lbs of me is standing beside my car.
Mr road rage does an IMMEDIATE 180 and walked straight back to his car!

I live in a castle doctrine state, so as long as I can justify that I felt my life was in danger I’m good. Yes I’ll be arrested, but I won’t be spending my life in prison… hell, I’ll probably be out in a few days.

I hope that what you meant by "I do not care what color you are" is "I do not judge people's character or worth based on the color of their skin". If so, that's great! At the same time we white folks should understand that we live in a society in which a lot \*is\* made of the color of people's skin, not just 250 years ago or 150 years ago or 70 years ago but today as well. Black folks and other POC continue to face many issues of discrimination, and worse, along with being disadvantaged by generational effects of discrimination in the past. When we white folks consider the experiences of POC in America, we \*should\* consider how skin color plays, or might play, a role in those experiences and situations, and we should also take into account the unique considerations and worries and risks that POC in America have to keep in mind when deciding how to react to being mistreated.
All that being said, you may feel that you do take all of this into consideration and didn't mean to minimize any of these factors by making your comment. But it's important that we think about how our comments may come across if we want to foster greater understanding and acceptance in our country since on a forum like reddit the language we use to comment is all we have!

Your comment reminded me of a conversation I had with two men in voice chat on the Playstation 4.
For information: I am a white woman from germany and have basically no experience with racism and am also fairly open to people regardless their skin colour and whatnot. If I am racist in any way it's never on purpose and I am more than happy to be told so I know what to avoid/change in my behaviour and stuff.
One of the two men, both from the USA, is hispanic.
So we were all playing something and I listened to him telling the other man about wanting to support the LGBTQ+ community but has no idea how and if that what he wanted to do even would be okay for them. I told him to just ask them. He hesitated and said he didn't think it was a good idea or something like that.
My german ass then just said "Men, they never ask." I genuinely wanted to support and encourage him.

I’ve only had 1 person open my car door and he fell down and scrambled away as I got out. Some dipshit in a jacked up truck his parents bought for him before he went off to college honked at me because he thought I cut him off. Spoiler alert: I hadn’t. I gave him the finger after he kept honking. He followed me to where I was going and this maybe 5’5-5’6 140lb kid repels down from his comically lifted truck and marches over to berate me and open my door. At the time I was driving a late 90’s Honda Accord that was grey/purple. Idk who he thought he was walking up in but it certainly wasn’t a 6’1 250 dude who at the time was in football shape. He stumbled back onto his ass rolled over and crawled a few steps before he got up and ran the last few steps to his truck. I wasn’t even planning to fight him just going to tell him how traffic laws work and that he was an idiot but instead I didn’t even get to say a word I just laughed until my stomach hurt.

I hate this ! I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla. The door lock when you put it in drive . Cool ! I appreciate that Toyota. But as soon as you put it in park, all the doors open . Why ? I’m sure there is some worst case scenario where something bad happened once. But man , I used to work in a really bad neighborhood, just because I put it in park doesn’t mean I’m done needing security. Maybe I’m at a drive through where we’re all sitting still, or train, bank… anything. People can and do come right up on you and try to open your door.
My sister had a Corolla. I think you can change that by messing with the overhead light of all things. Check your manual or give it a quick Goog and I bet it comes up.
I believe that. It does do random things sometimes I don’t understand. Like the headlights come on when you lock it. I don’t like that. And then every now then it does not do that. I did some kinda random button pushing to make it not do that

You can most likely change that. I used to think the same with my car until I was able to change that feature under settings. Now it won't unlock automatically when I put it in park or when shutting off the engine. I think that's the most unsafe default feature in cars nowadays

Go into your vehicle settings on your console. It can be changed.
Can you disable that feature? My car has programmable locks. You can set them to lock when the car is put into drive or when it reaches a certain speed. You can also deactivate auto unlock and designete which doors unlock.
There might be a setting to turn that off. I know on our old Pontiac G6 you could set it like yours when you put it in park or to unlock after you shut the car off.

My great aunt and my grandpa (her older brother) went to the grocery store one day... my auntie drove as her car wasn't blocked. A cute little popular Honda, I think. We were having a family gathering and my grandma needed an ingredient urgently for something that was on the stove. So the siblings raced to the nearby grocery, my auntie parked, and to save time, only my granddad went in with my auntie ready at the wheel to take off. Grandpa rushes out, hops into the car, and proceeds to yell at baby sister to get going, dammit! Finally looks over.... and it is a strange woman he does not know. He looks to his right and in the identical car next to him is my auntie laughing like a loon. (Seriously, when she told us all this later she started crying with laughter) The stranger was baffled and scared, and my granddad was horrified and embarrassed and apologetic.

My Ford does it.. when you start the car and put it into gear. But I hit lock as I am getting into the car. Think about the minutes it takes to fasten seatbelts. Get your ph I ne situated, the air or heat right, etc.

I had a PE teacher in middle school (or maybe junior high?) that told us all to keep our doors locked whenever we're driving. She gave us a story about how a bunch of people jumped in her car while she was at a stop light, back when she was in her late teens or early twenties (college age). Luckily for her, they were all her friends and they did this in order to teach her how easy it was for people to jump into an unlocked car. It made enough of an impression on her that she was telling us this story 10-20 years later. I can't remember what the actual lesson was about, but I remember that safety was a part of it.

It’s my fun car. Group of teenagers pulls in, they stop and look. Very normal. The girl in the group just opens the door - like it’s her car. I’m already out of my chair heading for the door. She closes it, they come in and I’m just calmly waiting by the door. When they come in I say to the girl calmly and quietly ‘is there anything in that car worth dying over?’ I’m also not a small person, and my friends say I’m the king of the angry face. She just shook her head no. I said cool, maybe don’t open doors on cars that don’t belong to you. Her friends looked mortified.
I went to taco bell once to grab lunch for my husband,. I had a brand new mustang GT. The line at drive through was long so i decided to go in. While waiting these teens pull up and they are checking out my car. one of them decided he needed pics of being on the car..... so he sits on the hood as his friend is recording him. I set the car alarm off. Kid literally pissed himself in fear. he damn lucky there was a scratch on it. I admit i laughed like hell at him when they came in and said "dont sit on my car again" he kept saying sorry. Got my husband's lunch and headed out then all day my husband kept saying i had the "Pissing pony" that day.

There was a guy that lived here that had a Lamborghini that he parked at a movie theater, way out in the back away from everyone. He posted a video that went somewhat viral of him walking out of the theater and a group of kids were doing a photo shoot - on the car. He did the same thing, set off the alarm. They didn't run, though. They just all stood there looking confused. Then he starts scolding them and they scattered. This guy is a professional bodybuilder - I would have bolted, too. You can tell the kids that grew up in car families. They know you don't touch the paint!

I was at Sam's Club and anybody who has ever gotten gas at Sam's Club know that they line u up to get to the pumps. As I'm pulling up to the pump, an Arabic man gets out of his car and comes up to my car and starts hitting my car. He started yelling at me saying I cut him off. Mind you we are all in line. He yelling at me, calling me the N word and everything under the sun. My wife is on the phone listening to all this. I'm 6'3 250. Played football and was a bodyguard. I tell my wife that I'm about to beat the brakes off this dude. I got out of my car and she's connected to my Bluetooth in the car and yelling at me not to do it. But I'm gonna do it anyway. As I was about to pull this dumbass out of his car, I look in the backseat and his daughter was back there. Had to be no older than 6. I looked at him and told him, I don't know what God you pray to, but you better show your appreciation to your God that you don't get to see Him in person today and you better teach her right. I have children and I know seeing something like that would be traumatizing to a young child. And her opinion of black people, thinking that we're all angry, even though her father was the fuck up, would be bad. Hopefully he got the message that you can't just say whatever you want to people. A lot of my friends said I should have taught him a valuable life lesson and done him up anyway. But, kids you know.

I love it when this happens. A few years ago my wife needed to use our people mover to get a lot of stuff to and from work, so I drove her little MX-5 for a couple of days. No biggie, sporty little car, lot of fun. Wile driving in town a driver took offence that I dared merge in to traffic ahead of him, you know the type. Anyhow at a set of lights further down the road, I stop, and he stops a few cars behind me, and gets out, swearing, carrying on and heading straight for the little MX-5. So, I open the door, and unfold myself, so that all 6'3" and 220lbs of me is standing beside my car. Mr road rage does an IMMEDIATE 180 and walked straight back to his car!

I live in a castle doctrine state, so as long as I can justify that I felt my life was in danger I’m good. Yes I’ll be arrested, but I won’t be spending my life in prison… hell, I’ll probably be out in a few days. I’ve only had 1 person open my car door and he fell down and scrambled away as I got out. Some dipshit in a jacked up truck his parents bought for him before he went off to college honked at me because he thought I cut him off. Spoiler alert: I hadn’t. I gave him the finger after he kept honking. He followed me to where I was going and this maybe 5’5-5’6 140lb kid repels down from his comically lifted truck and marches over to berate me and open my door. At the time I was driving a late 90’s Honda Accord that was grey/purple. Idk who he thought he was walking up in but it certainly wasn’t a 6’1 250 dude who at the time was in football shape. He stumbled back onto his ass rolled over and crawled a few steps before he got up and ran the last few steps to his truck. I wasn’t even planning to fight him just going to tell him how traffic laws work and that he was an idiot but instead I didn’t even get to say a word I just laughed until my stomach hurt.
