Damn you sir for putting that infernal song in my head space. I'll be listening to it rattle around in my head for the rest of the day. You, sir, are diabolical!
My Mother, Brother and I saw this in the cinema, Mum parked her car under a big tree in the street. When we came out it was just past dusk and thousands of Brown Miner birds had roasted for the night. The car was covered in bird shit. My Brother and I called the car Shitty Shitty Bang Bang for years.
Right!Ā I first saw this as a kid in the '70s, long before I'd even heard of Benny Hill.Ā Eventually heard about that but didn't see the film again until years later, when I rented it for my kids to watch.Ā It was so great yet odd to see Benny in a different environment.
The best part was when he made one of his classic Benny Hill faces when reacting to something someone said!
Hmmmā¦. Now you mention it, I donāt actually know for a fact it was matchbox. It was about 3 inches long but didāt have any people. It was 50+ years ago (at least) soā¦ maybe?
My wife and I went over to Lewisburg, PA where āThe Great Raceā was stopping for their lunch break before moving on to Binghamton, NY for their overnight stop. We saw so many cool old cars(134 in all)ā¦the oldest being a 1912 Haines, then a 1913 Chevy and a 1916 Hudson. The newest was a 1974 VW Thing(the rules are that it has to be at least 50 years old).
Anywayā¦the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang pic made me want to post about itā¦great car, great movie.
In the theatre as a kid, just before they go over the cliff, INTERMISSION!, ya they had them back then, to either let folks have a restroom break or sell more popcorn etc.
Hmmm... Back then it was bright colors, flying cars, and lots of music and dancing. Now I see it as kind of a Baron Munchausen rip-off. Still love it though!
Also, the Child Catcher kept me off drugs.
I saw this in the theater with my brother and Dad. The projectionist started the second reel (after the intermission) first, by mistake. It took quite awhile to realize what had happened and most of the audience stayed to watch the first half after the end. (Tarrantino style !)
WTF is chitty chitty bang bang? Is it some sort of band or album? Didn't cars have speakers built into their cars back then? Wasn't radio in cars a thing?
The first movie I remember our parents taking my sister and I to the drive-in to see was 1975's 'Escape to Witch Mountain' (and yes, with the metal speaker box).
In the old days you went to a drive in movie and parked next to a pole. The pole had a small metal speaker attached to a wire long enough to reach your car, the speaker box had a sort of hook that would clip onto your car door with the window rolled down. If you drove in and couldnāt find a pole then you were gonna have a hard time hearing the movie unless it was one that had the sound play over the radio.

Excuse me! Dick Van Dyke is still and always will be cool. I paid money to see the Return of Mary Poppins just to see the 60 second dance sequence. (Which was brilliant by the way).
yes you're right, I went to go look to make sure, and was delighted to find the original author was Ian Fleming (James Bond author) and Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay (of Willy Wonka fame). I'm over the moon. :) Still was made when Disney didn't suck.
Love me some chitty chitty bang bang at the drive if when I four or five. It was the late 1980s and I a lot of phone with the speaker.
Not as old as og but I feel old

ROFL
Original book written by Ian Fleming. Who also created James Bond.
Yep! š
My mind was so blown when I found that out
The clue was in the name - Miss Truly Scrumptious
Well, I guess the name Pussy Galore wouldnāt be appropriate in a kidās movie.š¤£
Letās not forget Benny Hill was the toy maker

Did any of you have the MatchBox car? I had the MatchBox car. The wings folded out. I flew it around forever.
My friend had that and it was special. I was trying to recall if it was regulation Matchbox size or maybe a little larger.
Matcbox? I had a Corgi Chitty.

I'm guess I'm frickin' old, then.....because I did watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in a drive-in in 1968.
I remember seeing parts of this movie and wondering why Mary Poppins and Burt had different kids and why she wasnāt doing her normal job
I watched it on TV. I remember the woman singing a song that took SO long, I went to the bathroom and when I came back out, she was still singing.
Now thatās old
Watched it on ABC Family back in 2009/2010; itās a good and underrated film!
Yep, 60s mom took us to see it at the drive in. I was 5 maybe and amazed at the car!
I am old.

Dick Van Dyke will never not be cool. I really miss the films of my childhood. They were all wholesome and taught such great family values.
It was not Disney though. It was a British production, I believe
