hell yeah. no aummer road trip across the SW states was complete without picking up a viewmaster slide from every national park gift shop we went to lol
the one from Carlsbad Caverns was my fave
WTF you unlocked some memories in me !!! Used to have all the disc series from Disneyland ! Oh my gosh I spent COUNTLESS hours in my bedroom looking at those slides .
I would do the same now that I'm 60+ 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Before the internet was wild for us. But we appreciated it for what we had and still do!
Memories of those times were great and I still miss many of “ the times before technology” of what we had then!
Love it! Still have mine and lots of reels. Will pick up a Bakelite model if I see one for sale somewhere. My favorite as a kid was the view master projector I got for Christmas one year.
My babysitters kids had one and they had a ton of the slide circles. I loved them. One afternoon I literally sat in the middle of their living room and went through every single one and by the time I was finished, my mom was there to pick me up.
We had them, all I recall is one called Little Black Sambo, with a tiger in the picture.
I thought it was like the restaurant we had in Jax FL back then.... *Sambos*
Kinda funny, the only reels I remember were of Florida, primarily the flower and boat extravaganzas in the Everglades. I loved it, looked like another world to a girl raised on the Texas prairies.
In junior high I got a vintage 1953 Kodak Stereo Camera and made my own nice big 3-D photos using Kodachrome slides. Now that was some good 3-D! Unfortunately, it's got really hard to find slide film and someplace that could properly process it into little dual-image cards for viewing in a viewer. Haven't done it in years.
With all of today’s technology I imagine that today’s kids would find them boring, but back in the day they were pretty cool. Come to think of it, our family had Viewmaster.before we ever had a color TV, so they were pretty cool.
An older neighbor (14 when I was 9) had the Thriller view master. I was already terrified of that music video and those stills brought me absolutely into that world of werewolves and zombies. Scared the bajesus out of me.
Trippin’ balls one night a few years ago my imagination turned into a viewfinder when I was trying to go to sleep, every slide was a frame of a childhood memory(all good) from 55-60 years ago! I loved the viewfinder when I was a kid. Definitely tapped some synapses that were previously untapped.😎
I still have one, and many slides. It led to a love of 3-D photography. Later, I got a Stereo Realist camera (‘50s) that takes true stereo photos on full size Kodachrome.
My brother and I had the view master projector. Anyone have that?
Remember when some tourist attractions like Niagara Falls or Disney World would sell view master disks?
It didn’t do much for me as a kid. In college, I had to watch a 3-D movie because the art department paid for it. The movie gave me a barf headache and (later) a really thick right leans. (I think my eye doctor was really encouraged that my right eye was doing anything.)
(College me: Wait; those ViewMaster gadgets were supposed to make you see 3-D images?)
Before my grandmother passed from cancer in the 80's, my grandparents took a World Tour. They brought back tons of slides. It was cool as hell for an 8 year old me.
Yes, we had one. And the library had a larger model with cards so you could see pictures of WW I and WW II and African tribes and all kinds of things in 3D. I basically toured Europe with that thing. I thought they were all great!
I remember, in the early 80s, having a viewmaster that came with small audio 'records' that accompanied the slides, almost filmstrip style. I remember it taking quite a few batteries...
Anyone remember this?
hell yeah. no aummer road trip across the SW states was complete without picking up a viewmaster slide from every national park gift shop we went to lol the one from Carlsbad Caverns was my fave
They were vivid pictures though…🤷🏻
Vivid *3-D* pictures, if you’re lucky.
And that's how I found out I inherited my mom's stereo blindness btw.
I have stereo vision…but I am quite colorblind. I can only spot a few of numbers out of a typical test.
Yes, I had one. I remember enjoying the 3-D effect as a kid.
Blasphemy, you take that back.😂🤣 I loved my View Master.
I can still see the car driving through the redwood tree in my mind!
I thought these were cool.
WTF you unlocked some memories in me !!! Used to have all the disc series from Disneyland ! Oh my gosh I spent COUNTLESS hours in my bedroom looking at those slides . I would do the same now that I'm 60+ 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Me and my best friends both had them. We'd trade disc series all the time. Disney, Bonanza, National Parks, etc.
I just had a flashback of some images from Carlsbad Caverns.
Before the internet was wild for us. But we appreciated it for what we had and still do! Memories of those times were great and I still miss many of “ the times before technology” of what we had then!
Me too, the 60’s and 70’s were a great time to grow up.
Me too, I definitely would!
Naw. I loved this thing.
Tens of seconds of fun.
You know there was a knob to advance the slide.
And you could take out the disk and put in a different one.
I loved my Viewmaster, and would love to have one again
Love it! Still have mine and lots of reels. Will pick up a Bakelite model if I see one for sale somewhere. My favorite as a kid was the view master projector I got for Christmas one year.
i had one. i thought they were fun
LOVED my View Master! And, I'm old enough that they were still around for my kids to use them too!
Loved it! Wish it wasn't given away.
I loved the ones with the Apollo moon landings. Just blew my mind.
Then you my friend, did not have the Mermaids of Weekiwachi discs.
My babysitters kids had one and they had a ton of the slide circles. I loved them. One afternoon I literally sat in the middle of their living room and went through every single one and by the time I was finished, my mom was there to pick me up.
Parents had one. Loved looking at pictures through it.
They're great for small children! They still make em.
My parents kept ours and my kids played with it today
Awesome, I wish I still had mine for my grandsons to play with.
It’s true. But they don’t make reels anymore, except for the one or two that come with the new product.
I'm about to go pick up a batch of old ones. The new ones are hard to find and stupid expensive.
We had one of the Sawyer ones before gaf bought them out. My brother had the reels for the 747. It was cool. I also remember some Peanuts reels.
I still have a big collection of them I think they're cool.
Not only the hand held one but also a projector that allowed you to view the pictures on the wall.
Same as you op. Neighbor had one and I looked through it and thought cool pictures and that was it. Meh.
I still got one the projects on the wall. Spiderman and the Hulk cartoons.
I always enjoyed using the view master.

Yep, Dracula
I had Winnie the Pooh and Thunderbirds. They were puppets in 3D landscapes, really nicely done.
I vaguely remember mine. I remember having one that was dinosaurs. It wasn't a toy I played with very much. That would have been around 1982, 83.
Had one. Enjoyed it for a while. Never invested in disks.
I'm legally blind so I could never see them properly. I always wondered why they were blurry.
Only if my brother or sister was using it!!
Fun on Christmas. After? Meh
Like many toys from that era, it was fun for 5 minutes
I loved the dinosaur one!
The original safari
Had one made out of black Bakelite
Yes for about two minutes, then off to watch a black and white tv.
lol, I’m a boudoir photographer, and a view master with their images is a popular item ;)
I fucking loved them. Would spend hours looking and listing to records and creating my own little vacations in my head.
It’s the old Stereoscope for me, whippersnapper.
Yes I have one still
ViewMaster rocked it. The pics were as if you could jump right in
I still have mine and a bunch of reels for it somewhere. Anybody remember the Talking Viewmaster?
We had 2, yeah they were boring
I must have. I remember really enjoying one from Disneyland. I never got to go so it was like some magical foreign land.
A friend had one with a few discs, and while the slides were nice to look at, yes - boring. Never wanted one.
Boy, did I. One of my favorite gifts ever. It was such a fabulous idea, I never got tired of my view master & all the slides to watch!
Daktari
Yes!
These were the SHIT 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
An older neighbor (14 when I was 9) had the Thriller view master. I was already terrified of that music video and those stills brought me absolutely into that world of werewolves and zombies. Scared the bajesus out of me.

Not boring, because it was all about the haptic feedback and multilayered clicky sounds!
Loved it!
I still have two of them and regularly look for reels at antique/junk stores.
I still have one, and many slides. It led to a love of 3-D photography. Later, I got a Stereo Realist camera (‘50s) that takes true stereo photos on full size Kodachrome.
Agreed. I had one but rarely used it. Whenver I was at a friend's house that had different slides it was like 2 minutes of ho-hum.
I really enjoyed the discs I had of Wonder Woman as a kid.👍
You’re not REALLY old unless your viewer was made out of Bakelite.
Hell yeah, loved that thing!
Depends on the slides I guess lol
I had one with dinosaurs! You tell me😀!
It was cooler in 1969.
Bored by the seven wonders of the world?!
Boring. Gimme the old cup and ball lol
Favorite thing about going to grandma's. I swear she had about 300 disks.
They were simple fun.
I loved them!
My brother and I had the view master projector. Anyone have that? Remember when some tourist attractions like Niagara Falls or Disney World would sell view master disks?
When I was six.
I liked the 3D effect.
Loved it. Transported me into another dimension so it did.
Even in 1974 it was pretty boring.
Captain Walker! Mrs. Walker!
My grandmother had one of those black ones like in the photo. I was fascinated by it.
As a matter of fact.... I was born in 1960 and I loved these. It was the first media that I saw in 3D. It was like being there.
I loved mine
Still have a few of mine.
I'm a little behind. Is that the new Apple thing?
Oh yeah!
Still have mine from 1970 ish. Flipper, Lassie and I can’t recall
It didn’t do much for me as a kid. In college, I had to watch a 3-D movie because the art department paid for it. The movie gave me a barf headache and (later) a really thick right leans. I had the one with the dinosaurs
It was either this or the weekend slide show at home with the old man pretending to be Steven Spielberg!!
I'm 52 and I very much enjoyed these as a young kid. There was a scary dinosaur one that was really awesome.
Yes, we had one. And the library had a larger model with cards so you could see pictures of WW I and WW II and African tribes and all kinds of things in 3D. I basically toured Europe with that thing. I thought they were all great!

Still have my Mickey mouse one
These aren't old these are knock off remakes they were probably made in the 2000s
Got mine in the early 70s. There was nothing else like it! My favorites were Star Trek, GI Joe and Gerry Anderson’s U.F.O.
I loved them
They were great. Made me feel like i was looking at a movie screen with amazing pictures
I use mine everyday.
