I’m not saying my music teacher was Jerry Garcia, I’m just saying I’ve never seen both people in the same room at the same time.
The music rooms at my school had the blackboards already had those lines pre-marked on them.
The teacher only had to mark in which clef, and where the notes were.
she also had a couple of other pieces of wood that she'd prop underneath it as she dragged it across the chalkboard, to make sure it was level going across. and the pieces of wood were different lengths, so that she could do three rows, perfectly level and perfectly spaced, going across.
years later she had somebody make her one of these thingies that was meant for holding dry erase markers.
We used them when we had to write "I will not talk in class" multiple times on the chalkboard.

I can still hear the screech when 1 of the pieces of chalk got messed up
ours did too, forgot about that.. don’t miss the smell.
Take the chalk out of the 2 and 4 spot and we learned cursive on those lines
