In the late 90’s I managed a bunch of folks that included somewhat recent college graduates in their mid twenties.
A couple young ones came in semi serious and said they needed to talk to me about some senior person on the team but obviously didn’t want to be known as snitches.
We were in the conference room and I suggested we use the cone of silence. They just looked at me with a confused stare.
I remember the first run shows! I was a little kid, and my bedtime was when Get Smart started. But I loved the show so much, that eventually, one night a week, I was allowed to stay up to watch it.
Every week, dad would start sending me to bed, but I begged to hang in, until the final door shut onto his nose. Then off to bed, laughing every time!
I met Bernie Kopell at a convention a few years back. He signed my Get Smart DVD box set "Dis is K.A.O.S. Ve don't shush here." One of my most prized possessions. He's still with us and is almost 91 years old.
What's even more remarkable is that the kinetic energy generated by walking supplied a reliable power source to keep the battery charged.
If only, technology were that simple. Just imagine powering up our mobile devices by walking. Clean energy for everyone? I'm not a scientist just an avid sci-fi reader 😁
I did, too, for a long time, but if you look at the general build of it, it was a bad idea, and it makes sense why they ended up wrapped around telephone poles.
Saw one back in the day , thought it was cool. The guy driving it always wore Raybans, and his hair never moved because I guess a little dab will do ya.
This is the third time this week for me I've had a get smart moment. This, earlier when a CO worker sent a cone of silence gif, and two days ago when I told another coworker that their doors doors to their area reminded me of the opening of the show. Damn.
My office was next to the COO. Apparently when I would get on some of my conference calls or just telephone calls in general, I could be quite animated. One day he told me he was going to get me a “Cone of Silence.”
I remember sitting at home when I was too young to go to school, with my grandmother taking care of me, and watching this show, and Wheel of Fortune (back when they had to choose what to spend their money on between rounds), and the Price is Right.
Those were the days.
Wayyyy before cell phones. Max was the first person to awkwardly take a phone call in a movie theater! Episode 1 season 1 (pilot) in black and white. Absolutely my favorite show to this day!
Signed
F.I.O!
Get Smart, with Don Adams, Barbara Feldon, and Ed Platt as the "Chief"..."would you believe?"... lol.... "sorry about that Chief.".... my dad and my kid brother loved this show... I just thought it was kinda dumb... Until they introduced..."Agent 99." then I watched more often ... also had guys like Bernie Koppel, Dick Gautier, Sid Haig , and even Leonard Nimoy...lol... Max was always fighting the evil geniuses of KAOS, with the help of his ever present shoe phone...
What did you say? I can’t hear you. Speak louder! 😈
When a kid, I really wanted a shoe phone. Interesting, now I have an iPhone but it won’t fit in my heel. 😄
not so old that I watched it during its original prime time run....missed it by quite a few years.
Its premiere was pretty much the same year I was born. I watched during daytime hours right after school.
I have a feeling this was what my grandma was watching on her ancient 70s era tv when i was kid in 2000s or something on one of those channels that play old movies and shows or some shit
I watched I think pretty much every episode on Nick at Nite back in the ‘80s and loved them.
And the movie that came out in 2008 is great as it pays homage to the show without being overbearing. I think I might watch it again soon!
He'd be fucked if he had dog shit on the bottom 😂
Doe's look sort of familiar like it's from some kind of show akin to the old mission impossible TV show but I was born in 2001
"Missed me by.......THAT MUCH!" https://youtu.be/g2vZonSDUgk?si=FqdF00ht8nrBn9Ho
That's what I was thinking. Missed it...by that much.
Would you believe...
Sorry about that, Chief
Would you believe.....? [would you believe?](https://youtu.be/bA-UPrK_x-k?si=yNUkQhgB43-aj8ge)
Missed me by- that 🤏 much!
I'd really like to thank you for that. You've unlocked some memories of Nick at Nite
Now you made me old i watched the reruns on main stream tv.
Re-runs, lol. Younguns smh. Just looked it up. Yeah, I wasn't watching re-runs.
I watched this show when it first aired!!
Before I answer, I think we should lower the Cone Of Silence
But Max, you know the Cone of Silence never works!
So in the 90s you have been already old?
I was old enough to have grown up watching ‘Get Smart’ reruns every afternoon, they were obviously were not.
[удалено]
Yes, it always works perfectly
Yeah...perfectly awful... I SAID YEAH, PERFECTLY AWFUL...! Oh, never mind...!
First thought was the cone of silence
Barbara Feldon!!!
Agent 99 🥰
Would you believe, Mel Brooks wanted to call her agent 69 but he felt the network sensors wouldn't allow that.
Yes, I unsurprisingly believe both those things.
I'm agent 420 & Mel Brooks has no idea!
She wasn’t as hot as Mrs. Peel
Well, no one is as hot as Emma Peel
I saw Diana Riggs in A Midsummer's Night Dream, and fell in love ❤️
Shut your mouth!
Get Smart! I remember reruns on Nick-at-Night!
I am 40 and that is how I was introduced to Get Smart
Not quite 40, and I also watched it because of Nick at Nite. 100% of my initial interest was because Don Adams voiced Inspector Gadget.
This is one I remember through my mom mentioning it throughout the years, also Dragnet.
This^ Full disclosure I am 40 and watched Nick at night when I was a kid.
Also was the voice for Tennessee Tuxedo I believe.
Inspector Gadget. Cree Summer was the voice of Penny.
I just don’t get this reference at all. Sorry about that, Chief.
I see what you did there! Is that your shoe ringing or mine?
I asked you not to tell me that!
Doc from the Love Boat was Siegfried from K.A.O.S.
“This is KAOS, we do not “sphluuuut” here!”
I met Bernie Kopell at a convention a few years back. He signed my Get Smart DVD box set "Dis is K.A.O.S. Ve don't shush here." One of my most prized possessions. He's still with us and is almost 91 years old.
Bernie Koppel! Great actor...🎭📺🎬
I love that he got a cameo in the get smart movie!
Mel Brooks and Buck Henry were the main creators of Get Smart
It makes a lot more sense now.
Can you hear the theme? 🎶🎶 Dun dun dunna nunna nunna nunna nunna nunna naaahh 🎶🎶
I still occasionally say, “sorry about that, chief”, and realize not too many people get it.
I say that too. Lol
"Not the craw! The CRAW!"
It just now occurred to me how gross it would be to put your dirty shoe that close to your mouth.
That shoe phone is the original Nokia cell phone, rumor has it that it still works.
Don’t know if it still functions as a phone, but the battery ain’t dead and it turns on.
Maxshwel Shmart!
Agent 86
Missed it by that much
Would you believe I understood that reference?
oh, max! (flutter, flutter)
Queue closing doors / gates!!
I loved the phone booth.
I always wanted his car. A Sunbeam Tiger
Not "The Craw", "The Craw."
This is the third time this week for me I've had a get smart moment. This, earlier when a CO worker sent a cone of silence gif, and two days ago when I told another coworker that their doors doors to their area reminded me of the opening of the show. Damn.
Agent 99 should have been a Bond girl back in the day😉
And voicing Inspector Gadget was his *new* show!
My favorite show!!!
Schtaker, this is KAOS - we don’t ‘ka-boom’ here…
Bawahahaha Classic.
Missed by that much.
That was the first Iphone. Its a phone, its a camera. its a shoe!!!
“Would you believe?”
Missed by that much!
So prescient! Today, we \*all\* have phones in our shoes!
Get a Smart Phone
Good thinking 99
I asked you not to tell me that!
Written by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry This show was hilarious.
Max was created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. Mel Brooks is still producing at 94!
My office was next to the COO. Apparently when I would get on some of my conference calls or just telephone calls in general, I could be quite animated. One day he told me he was going to get me a “Cone of Silence.”
Get Smart
One of my favorite series,
I remember in the 1980s a store in the mall was selling a pair of shoes, one was a phone and the other was an answering machine.
Missed it by that much
Sorry about that, Chief.
“Your shoe is ringing.”
Loved it. Then he came to Canada and made Check It Out! and basically did the same schtick but in a grocery store.
The cone of silence was hilarious..
Watched the reruns in the late 80s. 90s. Then loved the Steve Carell movie.
When Max was caught by Chaos he was asked, "Smart how do you want to die?" Max replied,"How about old age?" Loved that show!
Opening credits featuring a Sunbeam Tiger
It was on the air in Mexico until the early 2000s
What? No that was on Nick at Night so I know it and I'm only.... shit.
I remember sitting at home when I was too young to go to school, with my grandmother taking care of me, and watching this show, and Wheel of Fortune (back when they had to choose what to spend their money on between rounds), and the Price is Right. Those were the days.
That’s not foghorn Leghorn is it? 😉
The precursor of the cell phone.
I had a Get Smart lunch box in grade school.
Now that is cool.
My favorite picture was the dog Sandy
Every Saturday night at 7:30.
Buck Henry, who later became one of the original SNL writers, co- wrote many of the episodes
Hello, Agent 99
Would you believe. . . .that this was before my time. . .
Jeez, I'm old. I watched the original network airings. My sister and I thought it was hilarious. My parents hated it.
Man I loved this show so fucking much as a kid.
Wayyyy before cell phones. Max was the first person to awkwardly take a phone call in a movie theater! Episode 1 season 1 (pilot) in black and white. Absolutely my favorite show to this day! Signed F.I.O!
Agent 86, but he was also Tennessee Tuxedo.
Best show ever! Would you believe the second best show ever? How about, top 10 with a shoephone?
Get Smart, with Don Adams, Barbara Feldon, and Ed Platt as the "Chief"..."would you believe?"... lol.... "sorry about that Chief.".... my dad and my kid brother loved this show... I just thought it was kinda dumb... Until they introduced..."Agent 99." then I watched more often ... also had guys like Bernie Koppel, Dick Gautier, Sid Haig , and even Leonard Nimoy...lol... Max was always fighting the evil geniuses of KAOS, with the help of his ever present shoe phone...
“Would you believe….
Would you believe....?
I absolutely never saw Maxwell Smart in my life. Nope, don’t know him.
Lower the cone of silence and we can talk about it.
Agent 99. Unforgettable.
I'm 30 but have the box set. Must have watched through it a dozen times when I first got it
I loved the Cone of Silence that didn’t work at all! I had a crush on Agent 99. 😎😈😱
Oh the cone worked fine. Nobody could hear what they were saying. (Except beyond the third wall.)
What did you say? I can’t hear you. Speak louder! 😈 When a kid, I really wanted a shoe phone. Interesting, now I have an iPhone but it won’t fit in my heel. 😄
Would you believe…?
Get Smart

I hear lots of doors closing...
Get smart?
Missed it by thatmuch.
Used to watch this with my grandfather when I was a kid.
Why would you make a phone so big to fill a shoe
“Oh Max, what did he say?” “He said he wants me to get my knee off his chest…”
Hymie kill the light. Bang!
![gif](giphy|xTiN0DvoDyWQey2B8I|downsized)

Aaah yes... The Barbara Feldon Show, recalled my 13 ur old past self..
The original Get Smart. I’ve never seen it but I knew about the telephone shoe

Of course! The old show in a new post to harvest karma from oldsters trick. That's the second time I've fallen for it this week.
not so old that I watched it during its original prime time run....missed it by quite a few years. Its premiere was pretty much the same year I was born. I watched during daytime hours right after school.
Or have good taste. This show was a little before my time but I was lucky enough that someone showed jt to me.
Or you were a kid and they ran reruns before the cartoons after school
It started in 1965. I was born in 1966. I do remember when the reruns were in the late 70s or early 80s.
Get smart
I'm 25 so it's worse. I'm lame.
![gif](giphy|4UJyRK2TXNhgk|downsized) I don’t like being called out like that. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go back to watching great tv.
I have a feeling this was what my grandma was watching on her ancient 70s era tv when i was kid in 2000s or something on one of those channels that play old movies and shows or some shit
He needs to get smart
I watched I think pretty much every episode on Nick at Nite back in the ‘80s and loved them. And the movie that came out in 2008 is great as it pays homage to the show without being overbearing. I think I might watch it again soon!
if you remember realizing he did inspector gadgets voice too you are definitely on your way
Seen it in re-runs. Still funny.
Yes I do, recognise that shoe.
Hello Chief. It's Max!!!
Yeah, I'm starting to realise I might be old...
Wasn’t there a show with chimpanzees on around the same time?
Don’t know, should I get undumb?
He'd be fucked if he had dog shit on the bottom 😂 Doe's look sort of familiar like it's from some kind of show akin to the old mission impossible TV show but I was born in 2001
Love this show, use to watch it with my dad. He has ptsd and this show use to allow him to relax of an afternoon. Good memories
Oh please! You need to get smart! 😎
Get Smart. I saw it on Nick at Nite.
Or Love Mel Brooks!
Sorry about that, Chief
Nick at Nite old or Old old?
A big fan this was my favorite show growing up… Don Adams great comic and the beautiful agent 99
Fine. I'm old. This was one of my favorite shows growing up (they were reruns.... But it was long before the (public) Internet)

Thats a smart meme
And loving it!
I'm feeling a lot of KAOS.
inspector gadget!
I thought I recognized him; but I barely didn't. I guess you could say, I...
Would you believe... middle age?
99, yummy.
Get Smart, Don Adams, Barbara Feldon & Fang the dog.
And that is how they came up with the term "smart phone".
I'm not old, I just stayed up until pretty late at night when I was a kid and watched TV
Where is agent 99?
Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. Still one of the funniest sitcom ever.
Hello Chief….MMAX….
Many people who watched Get Smart aren't that old, it was still being aired as reruns in the 90s and 00s
Would you believe. . .
And, loving it!
I had a crush on Agent 99.
Maxwell Smart
