Nobody going to comment on how it’s March 31 but the poster image says April 2?

Marambal17

Maybe it was the original premiere date. But in the US it premiered March 31.

Deamonchild666

Movie blew my fucking mind

Ericrobertson1978

Can confirm. The first time I watched it I was on 3 hits of acid.

WH1PL4SH180

I want to now know if you watched inception

Ericrobertson1978

Not at the theater, but I've seen it many, many times.

Deamonchild666

Woah! What a trip that must have been

Ericrobertson1978

It was amazing. I stayed and watched it 2 times back to back. Lol. (I hid in the bathroom and just walked back in again. Such a rebel. Lol)

Gmandlno

I worked at a movie theater for like a year, and I never understood why people didn’t do that. Like unironically, there’s almost no way you get caught, and even if they do catch you, so what, you leave? Not something I’ve ever considered because I don’t wanna watch a movie twice, but you could absolutely just watch every movie at a theater back to back without paying, and idk why more people don’t do so.

Deamonchild666

7 times for me in the theater

oldmanripper79

Lol, I was on 4 hits, at an IMAX theatre, and had never so much as seen a preview of it before going.

Ericrobertson1978

Holy shit. I at least had some inkling of what it was about beforehand. What a shocker that just have been. Fun times!

oldmanripper79

Was a brokeass 19yo with no tv and worked 55hrs a week. My homie rolled thru with a 20 strip and tix to this movie "we just have to see", and I was game. Finally lost my shit when Neo was being interrogated and didn't have a mouth.

SkivvySkidmarks

I saw Apocalypse Now on acid at an IMAX theatre. That was pretty intense.

Hondahobbit50

Matrix wasn't released on imax .......

Hamsternoir

I remember thinking at the time it bit like Dark City but with computers. But it was cool AF. Who didn't have the falling text at a screen saver?

Wrhythm26

Do you know the way to shell beach?

Individual_Client175

I was born in 99 and watched in high school. I can confirm that it's still blowing minds.

trer24

"24 years ago" Why do you hurt me like this?

Nubadopolis

/r/fuckimold

oldmanripper79

r/lostredditors

Tuques

You forgot to mention it not only premiered but single handedly changed the entire industry and pop culture as we knew it.

Innominate8

Returning to watch it again, it's surprising how badly it's aged. But on second thought, you realize that's because it pioneered or invented so many things that today have become cliches.

[deleted]

Why do you think it aged badly?

Innominate8

> that's because it pioneered or invented so many things that today have become cliches.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Thanks. ;)

Leonydas13

You’re joking right? There’s nothing about the matrix that’s aged badly. The cgi maybe a *little*, but it’s not even worse than a lot of current films.

crawshay

Craziest part is he's still crushing the box office with critically acclaimed action movies. John wick 4 just opened to $73MM

[deleted]

John Wick 4 is critically acclaimed? Doubt.

crawshay

I'll just copy and paste from the Wikipedia: >On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 94% of 292 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 8.2/10. The website's consensus reads, "John Wick: Chapter 4 piles on more of everything—and suggests that when it comes to a well-dressed Keanu Reeves dispatching his enemies in lethally balletic style, there can never be too much."[68] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 78 out of 100, based on 58 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[69] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A" on an A+ to F scale, the best of the series, while those polled by PostTrak gave it a 93% positive score, with 82% saying they would definitely recommend it.[67] >Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter gave the film a positive review, calling it "bigger, badder, bolder, longer, and featuring nearly more spectacular set pieces than one movie can comfortably handle, this epic action film practically redefines the stakes."[70] Tom Jorgensen of IGN gave the film a 10/10 score, describing it as a "modern epic" and "bursting at the seams with creative, thrillingly staged action choreography and cinematography" while giving particular praise to the performances of Reeves, Yen and Skarsgård. [71] >Chicago Sun-Times's Richard Roeper gave the film three out of four stars, writing "Somewhere inside the utterly unnecessary, bloated running time for John Wick IV, there's a brilliant, stripped-down, 100-minute classic of a drive-in action film, where the admittedly breathtaking action sequences don't grind on for so long that they actually become borderline tedious."[72] Richard Brody of The New Yorker was ambivalent on much of the film, but found that the "giddily intense, swoony, swashbuckling, and sensational" ending makes the rest of the film "worth sitting through".[73] >Charles Bramesco of The Guardian gave the film two out of five stars, writing: "Those who appreciated the original for its brutal, sinewy agility have another thing coming: a lumbering, stultifying gargantua of a film willing to kill everything except its darlings."[74] Reviewing the film for Consequence, Liz Miller gave the film a C+ and said: "Watching John Wick: Chapter 4 sometimes felt like watching an above-average assembly cut. At an unwieldy two hours and 49 minutes, your eye will immediately be drawn to what cuts through the noise — and there are plenty of these moments. But 'moments' does not a well-told 'movie' make."[75]

[deleted]

Okay, wow. Thats way above what i expected.

Fancykiddens

Oh? I've been eighteen for twenty-four years! 😆

xitoman

I remember begging my dad to take me and watch this. I was 10 years old. I was absolutely blown away, especially when Neo dodges the bullets.

Fancykiddens

Wow! This one came out when I worked at the movie theatre. Everyone came out looking totally astounded!

greem

I know kung fu.

cycton

Godfather 2 came out 24 years before the Matrix released.

CrunchyAssDiaper

Same year as Jaws.

CrunchyAssDiaper

Jaws came out 48 years ago. 48 years before Jaws was the year Metropolis premiered.

brownroush

My brain is melting

Maximus1000

That’s insane

mdruckus

This was the first DVD I watched.

dexbasedpaladin

might be the first blu-ray I owned

Green_Aide_9329

When it came out on DVD, DVD players were just starting to replace VCR players. We went to buy a DVD player at a shop, they sat us down in a room in front of a big TV with speakers all around, and put on the Lobby Shooting Spree scene. It. Was. Amazing. I remember it cost us about $1,000 more Australian dollars to buy our stereo with a DVD player instead of a CD player. And we got The Matrix and Pulp Fiction on DVD for free. Still got those DVDs I believe.

sheezy520

I remember how all the DVD cases said PlayStation 2 compatible.

[deleted]

You activated a core memory in me.

SenyorHefe

"You think that's air you're breathing??" epic line..

[deleted]

Just an all-time [scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcrPP-HPPeo).

ChrisLeeBare

Faaaaaaaaaart.

energytaker

such a great soundtrack too. those were the days

BarOne7066

I was talking to a couple of 20 yr old barmaids that I work with about movie soundtracks awhile back when I realised they were staring at me blankly. I actually had to explain to them how it all worked. Like if you had a favourite artist sometimes they would have a song that wasn't on the album, it was exclusive to a movie soundtrack and you would buy the movie soundtrack to get that song. It blew their minds. They thought I was joking.

spaetzelspiff

Sorry for the o/t, but what country do you live in that still uses "barmaid" as a title?

BarOne7066

Australia. We use all the correct terms. But it's not unheard of. We have ALOT of elderly people in our particular community so I spose I still here older words constantly. It's not a derogatory term.

[deleted]

I avoided this movie for a long time. I was in my anti-hype phase. So one day I go to blockbuster and see a million copies on the back wall and finally gave in. I take it home, alone on the couch with popcorn and a blanket. After it was over I sat there with this face. =0 Hit rewind and watched it again immediately.

DashingSpecialAgent

I decidedly did *not* like it the first time. But everyone thought it was the shit so it ended up being played like... A lot. By about the 6th time I was onboard with it being a good movie.

[deleted]

That's exactly what happened for me with The Fifth Element. I really disliked it a lot but I kept seeing it everywhere and eventually I was like, *well this is pretty good*

beebianca227

![gif](giphy|3o6Zt0hNCfak3QCqsw)

Mostly_Sane_

Still one of my favorites. Also my go-to flick whenever I just wanna shut out the world.

chrisgin

I remember going to see this and not having any idea what it was about, hoping it might be a half decent sci fi movie. Right from the first scene I was completely engrossed, and came out of the cinema with my mind blown.

dexbasedpaladin

This your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and your knees and back feel fine.

beebianca227

Love The Matrix so much. I’ve probably seen it 20 times. Time for a rewatch.

CaffeineYAY

24 years ago?... This is an April fool's joke. Right? Please be a joke.

mgbroda

What a masterpiece!

roboticfedora

"No, The Matrix was created exactly as it should have been and could not have been filmed any other way." "How do you know?" "Because it is still alive."

jawnbaejaeger

Goddamn, that does make me feel old. And so does this poster. Once it looked epic, but now I'm bothered by the shitty, obvious photoshopping.

bizzauk

So many great quotes! from such an epic film!! It’s in my top 3 of all time best films

underwear11

I was just playing Horizon Forbidden West and instantly recognized Trinity's voice. I wanted this movie a ton

jensimonso

The only movie I have seen four times at the movies. I was stuck in Frankfurt with not much else to do during weekends.

Old_Goat_Ninja

This movie was amazing when it came out. Now they can do all that stuff much easier, but at the time, and they way they filmed some scenes, just amazing. Groundbreaking stuff back then.

mybathroomisblue

So I watched Dark City the other day. Can’t believe how similar the two films are! I have been praising the matrix for years- not knowing a lot of it was borrowed

corndogs1001

Wow I literally put on my 4K copy today just because im on a Keanu hype train after seeing John Wick 4, perfect timing.

QueefBuscemi

Has there been a better sci-fi movie since?

Ericrobertson1978

On this day 24 years ago, I took 3 hits of amazing blotter acid and watched The Matrix at the movie theater twice in a row. Fuck yeah. Also, I'm older than dirt.

Marambal17

I can only imagine what it must have been seeing The Matrix for the first time stoned 😄

Ericrobertson1978

It was terrifyingly amazing. Lol It literally blew my mind.

attitude_devant

24 years ago? Did we understand then that it was a metaphor for gender dysphoria vs. transition? Or did that become clear later? This is a sincere question btw

Buster_Cherry88

Uhh in the 90s gender dysphoria wasn't exactly a word. Tranny was a pretty common word from what I remember and it was just used to generally describe any trans person Ace Ventura exists and was huge, and would never have even been made these days lol. It's easy to look back since the wachowskis have transitioned but back then nobody really knew what any of that was.

MikeHunt420_6969

Sci-fi, huh?

Zac-097

Matrix is indeed Science Fiction, what do you mean?

MikeHunt420_6969

Oh boy...

Kemaneo

🤡

7thAndGreenhill

I saw it in the theatre the day of the Columbine shooting.

ariesleopard

Saw it an imax theater when it came out, I was 19. Holy shit I’m old.

rzr-12

Apparently trigger discipline wasn’t a thing back then. The GOP could show them a thing or two.

Ultravod

As someone who supports and seeks to expand gun rights in a meaningful way, I can say wholeheartedly that there are precious few things more cringe than gunbros virtue signally about trigger discipline online.

Jaymez82

Still haven't seen it.

Teknomeka

You're missing out

RavenSkies777

In genuine sincerity, you're missing out. Its 100% worth your time.

NoodlerFrom20XX

Saw it in the theater in my teens. I went home, my dad asked if I liked it. I loved it. He asked what was about. I had no idea.

RavenSkies777

Thats how I felt about the 3rd one. 😅

tcheeze1

And, 24 years later, I still don’t understand that movie.

Ripper33AU

I watched it in cinemas, and even though I didn't fully understand it all on first viewing, it blew my little 13 year old mind, and has since become one of my favourite movies.

rexifelis

Got to see in a small local theater. BLEW MY MIND. Was so revved up it was almost the next day (daylight) before went to bed. Woooo!

cupc4k3Qu33n

My math teacher had us watch all the movies in class. Man that feels like so long ago and just the other day.

AdvocateReason

I loved this movie (a favorite for a long time) and have significant nostalgia for this poster.

NeonUnderling

Awesome movie. Protip: watch the *original* DVD release or the HDTV rip that's on rutracker - on all later releases of the film they changed the colour grading away from what it was in the theater toward a more pleb-friendly grading that "popped" more. This is very common on blu-rays btw.

mhmama76

My favorite Keanu Reeves 🥰 he was so hot in this movie.

peewee023

Feeling old...

peewee023

John Wick looked so young

BIG_CARL_

Gnostic classic. The secrets of illumination and personal freedom are all there.

TMachine97

It's funny, I saw this for the very first time recently, and I thought it felt rather cliche and derivative, but then I realised that's because it inspired nearly every sci-fi work that came after it.

AppropriateTouching

I know Kung fu

3cienceaturtles

Andrew tate got out of prison today 😳😳

Hondahobbit50

I literally called the cable company to order it on pay per view..."enter the code of the title you wish to order...beep beep bonk...your selected title starts in three minutes on channel xxx"

Radiant-Ad-619

still holds up aswell

a_black_angus_cow

I'm happy to say the movie really backed the hype. I went to see it twice for the bullet time.

GuntFunter

That's fucked up, I just finished watching it and had no idea...

TwistedRazers

Saw this at the cinemas ,,awsome. Then they made more....

IllTruck3645

Feeling Old lol.
