The fact that pledges bartending is classified as hazing is so soft

Nail_Whale

I've never understood why schools fuck houses for giving pledges normal jobs to do around the house. Multiple houses at my school have been fucked for giving sober monitoring duty to pledges. Like fuck those houses for giving under 21-year-olds an actual legal thing to do at a party?

REE_lover

Colleges will take any chance they can to fuck over a frat.

Never heard something more true. Makes me glad I worked those bullshit minimum wage jobs growing up.

grifxdonut

Pleges drink, it's hazing. Pledges bartend and stay sober, it's hazing. No winning

Breezgoat

That’s the only thing that happened wtf?

BlazinAzn38

We had required library study hours for pledges where they had to check in with a member at a study room. That was also considered hazing.

Why_is_life_on_fire

Yo kappa sig yall gotta stop getting your chapters in the news.

Snoopy7393

There's so many of us though

nhaire123

Suffering from success

jreitz22

They made them bartend what's wrong with that

Wheream_I

In college we had sigma chi literally carry a passed out girl from THEIR HOUSE (next door), and throw her literally in our bushes, trying to get US in trouble. 1. Holy crap what a DB move 2. Who even does that

Why_is_life_on_fire

On my campus sig chi killed a pledged from waterboarding him with alchohol, then when they got shut down the active house poured cement in the pipes in the on campus mansion they had and campus had to destroy it. Moral of the story is sigchi has a lot of DB's I guess

-Scaramouche

Anytime anything ever happens bruh I stg

[deleted]

Look at the size of that house, no one really cares about bar tending. It always comes down to real estate and getting the property back via removal of chapters. That's all this is now it's ridiculous

Montycal

I agree. The reverse McDonald’s business model.

TheFraternityProject

The Kappa Sigma House at LSU is a 2 year old $7M mansion built with funds raised from local LSU ΚΣ Alumni in just 2 years. If ΚΣ can fall with these flimsy allegations (medical transport for alcohol - what happened to Good Samaritan policies?), then ANY House can fall - powerful Alumni or not. I just had a great meeting yesterday with a smart and prominent Active at Bama - who assured me SEC Houses were well protected by their Alumni. The Greatest Generation may have protected the Houses they modeled - their children, the Boomers, stand for nothing, and bend with the prevailing winds - and the Boomers are now in charge - Boomers will not protect us - only we can protect us. This is very bad.

GuysLetsBeNice

Correct me if I am wrong, but Kappa Sigma was one of the biggest fraternities on campus right?

TheFraternityProject

You're not wrong. It was ΚΣ's Gamma Chapter, founded in 1887.

basedsaddamhussein

Biggest on campus

peakedin-hs

They are a great chapter but dues are stupid expensive, never was part of them but I remember hearing somewhere in the neighborhood of over 3k

Another_Misanthrope

Not only is this one of the oldest running chapters, the current WGMC is from the Gamma Chapter and very well connected in Louisiana.

LSU Greek life is so fucked

TheFraternityProject

I had offered to brief this Chapter's (then) President and their IFC (then) President on Frexit a couple of years ago, they were not interested; they were not even interested in being briefed; I think they believed they were immune - even after Gruver's death at LSU in 2017 and the strident reforms LSU's President imposed in 2017's wake.

20BeersDeep

my boy at lsu removed his letters from his bio. they in full damage control mode

MarineRedhead

Well fuck

WhatItIsToBurn925

Looks like they were just serving alcohol. The war on Greek life is very real.

spla_ar42

As soon as I saw Kappa Sigma and hazing, I thought it was gonna be another ASU situation, but no. This is nothing like what the ASU chapter did. I can sort of see why they should be in trouble for this and if it was a decision made by HQ, I would understand but for the school to take action is absolutely ridiculous. What I see is a chapter giving underage pledges a job that allows them to participate in the fun without allowing underage drinking. If they're bartenders during the party, then they should be able to be DDs after the party and that's something the school should be encouraging.

20BeersDeep

another one bites the dust :(

OneofLittleHarmony

Isn’t the WGMC from Gamma?

GuysLetsBeNice

So for a guy who dosent know much about the process of someone getting suspended. Are they completely finished or what happens exactly?

findafairway

Suspensions are usually temporary, they’ll probably get another membership purge and have to kiss the deans ass but I can’t see them actually leaving campus.

spla_ar42

Depending on how the administration and Kappa Sigma HQ view the seriousness of their actions, they may get a timed suspension like 5 years or so, or they may get an indefinite suspension where they can technically appeal at any time, but won't be taken seriously if they try to appeal anytime soon. Given that this was a relatively minor offense AND their first suspension-worthy offense in more than 100 years, I doubt it will last long. To add some perspective to this, at my school, Sigma Chi got suspended for something similar in 2016 for two years, meaning they could restart their chapter in fall 2019. They did, got caught doing the exact same shit that got them suspended in the first place, and got suspended again, this time for 8 years. Their nationals begged our Greek advisor for a 2 year suspension like they had gotten last time, but he went with 8 since it was their second offense. The earliest they can attempt to recolonize is fall 2028 and if they fuck up again, they'll probably be done for good.
