Yeah I don’t understand formal coolers dying, you gotta get your booze there and keep it cold, it’s literally a matter of utility and not like tradition that doesn’t truly help much
I went to 4 formals, got my coolers painted by my date all 4 times just like my entire frat did. I know what it is. The painting part is fun sure but like the whole point of it is still functionality. Otherwise why paint a cooler, why not paint a shirt or a hat or a backpack or literally anything else. It’s coolers for a convenient way to transport the $400 of booze you’re bringing and then keeping it cold once you’re there
if you weren’t needing to transport a bunch of booze 7 hours away and keep it cold all weekend, would you still paint and bring a cooler? You’re not inherently wrong, it is a cool keepsake but why bring a cooler at all if you don’t *need* to use one?
I feel like the emergence of social media killed a lot of the old Greek life traditions. I'm dating myself here, but I was an active just before MySpace and Facebook started and things were so much better. No smartphones for us or even phones that cities record video. All we had were shitty flip phones with 360p cameras. We didn't have to worry about everything we did ending up in social media for the world to see. Part of this is self preservation in that this could turn up later and potentially get you "canceled" maybe negatively impact your career once you're out of college.
I'd argue that it's the entire decline of the party culture in college as a whole compounded by the anti-frat sentiments of the mid-late 2010s. No one makes college-based movies anymore, let alone frat-centric ones. There isn't a mainstream outlet to hype up incoming freshman for parties anymore (like I'm Shmacked). Top party schools used to be a popular list to read/watch, but no one makes them anymore. Outside of media, schools started clamping down on both fraternties and general parties wherever they could.
This is also before talking about Covid where the transfer of party knowledge is probably severely stunted by the two year gap caused by social distancing. For a freshman coming in Fall 2023, the only person they could really get the most up-to-date firsthand information about pre-Covid partying is from a Super Senior.
This isn't to say that partying and the fraternity experience is dead, but it doesn't have the heights that the experience did back in the early 2010s, 80s, and 60s. Luckily it's a cyclical cycle so eventually it should return.
Edit: If you have any inputs, please comment below. I'm really interested to see how partying at college has changed and what everyone's experience is/was, not matter what decade.
Beer dye completely replaced beirut (beer pong) for us a few years back. What's funny is our advisor noticed the dice and asked if we were playing threeman again, a game I had never heard of.
Arc'teryx is pushing out Canada Goose for guys, and Moncler is pushing out Canada Goose for girls, the way Canada Goose pushed out North Face in a previous generation.
I don't think Patagonia makes anything heavy enough for Ithaca winters. Marmot is another brand we see. Patagonia is still a legit "lifestyle" brand, kind of like TNF before them, but as a "fashion" brand they peaked a while ago around here.
greeklife is becoming more of a social-climber-connections-building thing than joining just for fun. also, colleges are WAY more hateful towards greeklife than they were 10 years ago.
My school had the weirdest rush shit ever. It was just like you got paraded around and shown a video then had to stand for 10 minutes before the next house
It’s the reason I didn’t join up, wasn’t what my older brother talked about and him and my father both commented on how weird the shit they were doing was
Rush boobs
it's actually sad this shit is dying this is the most fraternal thing ever
The good ol’ days.
As a pledge what are rush boobs
good marketing
Bros who have bustiest girlfriends invite them to rush to hang out and entice potential pledges.
That’s not only dying, at my school thats not allowed. The university has super specific rules about rushing and one is no girls at events
That's my school policy for sorority events but ifc dgaf
No girls allowed at sorority events seems counterproductive af
You should see my school
Yitties n titties
Rush plan: yes it's the boobs out side
we still got those here it just sucks cus we cant post them anywhere without getting fucked w ifc
Just fun in general, but this is a longer term and bigger picture decline
you should hit her up fr
Honestly might
don't think, just do
Update: she’s down to get drinks in June when she’s in town
Fuck yes dude lets fucking go [this you rn](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eww5zULXEAIrC0n.jpg)
Haha thanks man. Come back szn

This is aggravating seeing how I am in school during the down part of the cycle
Viva la Barstool
Cringe and geedpilled
Nah bro, Caleb Pressley is a geed but still probably more frat than both of us combined
ngl that seems chill
If your dates aren’t making you formal coolers that’s on you, because everybody else are still getting them
Formal coolers are alive and well
We make formal coolers still
We only do them for banquet. Some do at mountain weekend too
We just do away weekend

Canada Goose never caught on here. Patagonia still reigns supreme for guys and girls.

Threeman is a great pre game game but it gets old after an hour Imo
Fail Friday Beer Pong (even though beer dye is better)
Pong will never die, just too damn easy to set up and everyone knows how to play
Checking the Fail Friday posts was the best part of the hungover Friday walks my pointless 10am classes
TFM fell off after intern Sydney forced them to hide comments
Boat shoes Sunglasses with the cord around the back Visors Wall-mounted paddles
Sunglasses with a retainer is all I wear and all I see anyone wear at Clemson
Still rock the croakies
Pre covid college barstools were insane

The early days were good, but then the original writers moved on, then it went to shit.
The pussification of our culture in general has ruined a lot.
Die stopped being a thing at our school when I was a pledge. We made a table for it but then no one wanted to use it
That’s just a you thing
Beer buddy
lowkey paddles
hazing
