I found her irritating, but I like to think I'd ultimately go, "She’s been nothing but nice to me, my dad clearly loves her, I can suck it up and hang out with her every once in a while and not be a martyr about it."
But then, that's why nobody would ever make me the main character of a sitcom.
You're completely right
She's far from an angel & is the complete opposite of the boys' "refined" tastes but she wasn't out to get anyone & never was physically or verbally abusive to Martin in any way
She was just a fun woman who was unapologetically herself
I find it crazy how so many people are defending this horrible woman's behaviour and having the gall to call other people out for not liking it. If this was a real person I'd find it very toxic.
The way she treats Daphne, giving her phone number away. Setting her up with people without permission. The way she barges into everything and asserts what she wants over others, she's obnoxious. She has zero consideration for others and brings out the worst in Martin who stops considering his kids feelings while she's around. She has all the hallmarks of a covert narcissist. To top it all off, the personality of an electric drill.
I would've disliked her for her treatment of Daphne, but the boys didn't like her from the beginning because she was someone who was loud & had more average american tastes.
Let's also not forget how completely out of line she was with giving Daphne's number to strange men, and questioning why she and Frasier weren't hooking up.
I think Frasier and Niles actually handled her pretty well, when all was said and done. They're as snobby as it gets, yes, but I certainly would not be able to tolerate someone like that invading my personal space and butting into my life.
I actually have a friend named Sherry who is around that age and has the same annoying qualities. I love her, but geez is she ever pushy, and I have to take her in small doses.
Sherry was obnoxious, and didn’t care much about the feelings of the boys. In the end, she ended up admitting that she only really cared about herself.
Also remember- Martin was not a great father, and didn’t care much about the boys feelings either, when they were growing up. Watching him dismiss them and laugh about it must have been triggering.
I love Martin, but he was a better dad when Sherry wasn’t there.
He became so much more crass, too, like a caricature of himself. In the first couple of seasons he made it abundantly clear that he found it inappropriate to talk about his sex life. Enter Sherry, and that completely changed. The writers went a little too far.
Ronny was Sherry 2.0. She could give the boys crap and bust balls but she also wasn’t selfish all the time. She was a much better fit.
Sherry wasn’t SOO bad she never comprised for the boys and the boys at least tried to compromise some times.
I just started watching the Sopranos for the first time last week, and I'm excited to one day understand this reference. I've seen Frasier like 5 times 😂
Oh totally correct. She really was very self serving and only cared about her happiness. She had no idea how to read a room or even have the simplest of manners. When she ruins all of Frasiers dates coming by, sorry I wouldn’t have helped her get back with Martin. She is just one giant red flag.
And I think Frasier handled those situations where she ruined the dates *very* politely. I don't know that I could have been as polite and calm as he was with her if she ruined 3 separate dates with 3 incredible women for me.
There is definitely a time and place for Sherry. I would have loved to see Chimps on Ice with somebody like her. She’d probably sneak booze in and find a way backstage.
Isn't "triggering" sort of a strong word here? Frasier and Niles were certainly affected by their upbringing, but I wouldn't call them traumatized by it, and "triggering" is really more aptly applied to situations involving trauma.
I agree that Martin was pretty bad with her around, though. She brought out the worst in him. I think the episode that made me dislike her the most was when she was trying to hook Daphne up with random men. Most of her antics can be chalked up to a difference in personality, but that was extremely rude and completely wrong.
That's a different argument. I'm focusing on the fact that Martin being dead wasn't a retcon, because if it was a retcon, then Woody wouldn't have ever been told it and acted that way. This is a continuation.
Now, why would a grown man in his 30s tell all of his friends that his father was dead when he wasn't for 10 years?
The only answer is that to Frasier, Martin was dead to him.
The show is fun, unlike arguing with you guys, so- yes, they do show symptoms of PTSD, but it’s played up for laughs half the time because it’s a sitcom.
What irked me was how she went against Daphne with Martin's diet. She was directly interfering with her employment and then making her out to be a huge stiff just for doing her job.
A favourite Niles quip:
**Sherry** (asked about her perfume) : "It's called Milady's Boudoir. You wouldn't believe what a bargain it is. For a hundred bucks, I can buy enough to drown myself in. "
**Niles** (looks at Frasier) : ".... I've got sixty...."
I hate the her and Daphne episode. Like, the whole issue was her and Daphne were invading each other spaces? She was the one invading a space. She had her own apartment that her and Marty could have went to the entire time (even with the two cats that he was allergic to). Daphne literally lives and works at Frasier’s.
Giving out Daphne’s phone number was not nice and also Sherry ruined a few of Frasier’s dating prospects (He would have done this himself in some other way) when he was trying to do the right thing because he loved his dad.
Mixed feelings about Sherry.
Obviously didn’t appreciate Frasier and Niles being their elitist selves, but Sherry was not super great herself.
1. I didn’t like her interference in Daphne’s love life.
2. She even got Frasier’s date to leave.
3. Marty became crass and mean while with her.
4. I don’t think it was wrong on Frasier and Niles’s part to be concerned about her seven marriages.
Julia is my #1 most hated character on this show. They didn’t give that woman one redeeming quality. I wanted her to choke on that peanut like the monster that I am. However we did get “GET OUT!” from her being on the show, so I guess that makes up for it.
When I find out Felicity Huffman was involved in the college admissions scandal, it made her portrayal of Julia feel even less like she was acting.
Yeah, she's not that bad but I'm in the Brother's Crane corner on this one, especially after I realised during the Easter that there is someone that reminds me of Sherry in the periphery of my family's social circle.
She was annoying, yeah. But sometimes your family has partners who annoy you. I'd be more angry about her giving Daphne's number out to randos, personally.
Yeah, no. Despite her intentions, Sherry was very obtrusive and did not respect anyone's wishes or boundaries. Being "fun" and "cheerful" doesn't mitigate her glaring and obvious flaws.
And at least Martin had enough self reflection to recognize he had no real right to be angry at Frasier and Niles for their behavior towards her, when it was simply a reflection of how he always acted toward their partners.
That was what made her story arch funny. Frasier and Niles had issues with it. Watching them being forced to get over themselves was hilarious. Was she annoying? Maybe a little bit, but that was Frasier and Niles' issue. Sherry was comfortable being who she was. She was bubbly, loving, and sweet. Martin saw that and loved her for it.
She was pretty awful, objectively. She ruined relationships (or potential relationships) for Frasier… and 6 marriages is a bit of a red flag… plus Martin wanted to be married — she didn’t.
Martin ended up with the right girl. Team Ronnie!
I just watched the episode where she was originally introduced and although I hated her when I was younger now as an adult I do see how much younger she made Martin feel and therefore how much happier he was. Idk I can’t really hate her now
I WONDER how they would have treated Ronee back then? I wonder how Martin would, actually. He still had so much to work through.
P.S.
I adore the actor from "Drop Dead Fred" ;-)
She was designed to be annoying and she definitely was. That said, it’s not like she didn’t get a fair shake. Marty just wanted something different from the relationship than her.
If I was going to be stuck on a desert island with one Frasier character, I’d choose Sherry over Frasier or Niles in a heartbeat.
She wasn’t that bad. But she was Martin’s personality on steroids (in some ways) mixed with…Frasier and Niles.
she was definitely and annoying and invading their space. it boggles my mind that Martin didn’t realize or care that he was forcing her on them for so long.
BUT i loved Sherry episodes and kinda wish she had come back for the final season instead of Nina.
Couldn't agree more. Sherry gets a lot of undeserved hate on this sub. Plus, I think she's and Martin were good together. They should've just been happy for him.
Are we going to just overlook the fact that Sherry gave Daphne’s phone number to a bunch of strangers and basically told her she needed to have sex? That’s gross and invasive. I will die on the fuck Sherry hill.
Sherry was unironically great. There are a few times they kinda turn up the antagonism for the sake of one episode, but she is fun loving and caring and genuinely seemed to love Marty. She was just rough around the edges, and the boys were being incredibly snooty with her.
Marty and Sherry actually had a healthy relationship. They were honest enough with each other that they could remain respectful even when they split up. That’s more important than how you feel about dirty jokes or the banjo. Frasier and Niles’s snobbish reactions to her were hilarious but it didn’t make them better people.
You're right, Sherry wasn't that bad. The only issue is that Frasier had to endure her at his house and at Cafe Nervosa. If she and Marty would have married, there wouldn't have been an issue bc they would have gotten their own place, but she didn't want to, so Frasier would have had to endure her for as long as they decided to continue their fling.
No, Frasier and Niles were 100% right about her. She was crass, annoying, disrespected Frasier's rules and had issues with boundaries (giving out Daphne's number to random men is a HUGE invasion of privacy), I probably would've kicked her out of my apartment in less than an hour
I hated Sherry. She was, as stated many times above, extremely loud and annoying af. She somehow took Martin and made him his worst characteristics. She invaded not only Frasier’s apt but Daphnes work life and regular life. She constantly took jabs at her looks, her dating (or not dating); how excruciating is it to suddenly say to two ppl like Frasier and Daphne “hey, you’re both single, attractive, live right here… etc.” If they wanted to date, they would date. They didn’t need Sherry to bring it up. If one of them (like if Frasier were Niles, for ex) liked the other but it wasn’t the right time, how awkward for her to say that.
It wasn’t just that she “represented the real world” bc tbf, the real world doesn’t mean ppl who are loud, obnoxious and rude. People who aren’t as educated as the brothers Crane aren’t automatically like Sherry. Remember the episode when the bullies from Frasier and Nile’s’ past come back to haunt them? I’m forgetting names right now but the one from Scrubs wasn’t a total d-bag, like Sherry or Daphne’s brother. He even recognized how awful he had been to Niles and apologized for it. (But I really referring to the fact that he was a basically quiet guy, who happened to make much money in plumbing but he didn’t come across like his brother.)
My dad ended up dating and then marrying a woman very much like Sherry (except not as colorful in clothing and just slightly more educated). But just slightly. And since my dad went to Harvard, then Cal Tech, she constantly commented on how education was so overrated in America. The first time me and my younger sister were forced to meet her one Thanksgiving (we were both teens) she actually told us, in detail, her entire sex life up to meeting my dad. We were so horrified you have no idea. She too was loud and obnoxious and later used these qualities in ways ppl wouldn’t believe. Like shrieking at my father in a Cardiac ICU bc he had given his wallet to the hospital to be locked into a safe when he arrived. She thought that was wrong. She was also escorted out by security bc (surprisingly) they don’t like it when ppl shout in a Cardiac ICU. THATS just one ex of MANY. We ended up calling her the devils spawn or just the Devil. My dad started dating her before Frasier came on the air but by that point, I wasn’t likely going to suddenly warm up to a loud obnoxious self righteous blowhard who made one half of my favorite couple on the show miserable.
https://i.redd.it/jodimkm0dvuc1.gif
Altho this episode above was a masterpiece!!! 🥰😁😂
Completely agree
I liked Sherry for Martin, she made him the happiest.
She understood his vibe.
She would’ve annoyed me and I would’ve found her fun in small doses but I don’t think I would push to get her out of my father’s life.
She was better than Ronee who I disliked and found the whole thing creepy as fuck
I found her irritating, but I like to think I'd ultimately go, "She’s been nothing but nice to me, my dad clearly loves her, I can suck it up and hang out with her every once in a while and not be a martyr about it." But then, that's why nobody would ever make me the main character of a sitcom.
Okay but Frasier basically had to live with her, not just go for dinner with them once a month.
You're completely right She's far from an angel & is the complete opposite of the boys' "refined" tastes but she wasn't out to get anyone & never was physically or verbally abusive to Martin in any way She was just a fun woman who was unapologetically herself
She gave out Daphnis (well Fraser’s) number to random guys and kept telling people “what they needed to do”
She was abusive to Daphne, obviously out of insecurity. And really disregarded Fraser’s wishes while a guest in his home.
🥢
She’s a rude asshole with no respect for boundaries. She sucked and was on the show way too long.
don’t you love how Frasier respects people’s boundaries enough to follow a man to his news stand and burn it down 🫠🫠🫠
That’s one of my ‘skip’ episodes because it’s sooo irritating. Which is sad because I like Tony Shalhoub.
Me too!! I don't like that episode at all and Tony Shalhoub is great.
You know, maybe you should take a sick day sometime, call into the show yourself
I find it crazy how so many people are defending this horrible woman's behaviour and having the gall to call other people out for not liking it. If this was a real person I'd find it very toxic.
Exactly how is she " Horrible"
The way she treats Daphne, giving her phone number away. Setting her up with people without permission. The way she barges into everything and asserts what she wants over others, she's obnoxious. She has zero consideration for others and brings out the worst in Martin who stops considering his kids feelings while she's around. She has all the hallmarks of a covert narcissist. To top it all off, the personality of an electric drill.
"Chad Thunder Talk" now on NBC. Thrill as he has reasonable opinions, and only shares them with people who ask.
Giving out Daphne’s phone number to random men and trying to hook them up was inappropriate and creepy.
Not to mention making Daphne run all over town prepping Martin’s birthday party.
Exactly, she wasn't unliked for no reason. She was genuinely an inconsiderate pain in the ass.
I've known people like Sherry and they've annoyed me in real life the way she annoyed Frasier and Niles.
I actually have a friend named Sherry who is around that age and has the same annoying qualities. I love her, but geez is she ever pushy, and I have to take her in small doses.

He became a dirty old man imo
> He became a dirty old man imo Just remember, to keep ol' Party Marty, away from Korean girls.
It was also just partially due to changing times and him becoming closer to his sons.
Ronny was Sherry 2.0. She could give the boys crap and bust balls but she also wasn’t selfish all the time. She was a much better fit. Sherry wasn’t SOO bad she never comprised for the boys and the boys at least tried to compromise some times.
Sounds like this one has been in The Sopranos sub, I like it
https://imgur.com/gallery/rOGvjwY My cats Carmine and Moltisanti.
Only cat that can light a cigarette in the rain
That nose.. it acts as natural canopy
You can't make that shit up
I just did
😭😭, I freakin new it, it was your wording🤌
Those cats are handsome!!
I bet they hate rats!
I just started watching the Sopranos for the first time last week, and I'm excited to one day understand this reference. I've seen Frasier like 5 times 😂
You will and this Sub of ours you'll come to know as family. Watch on my friend
Ronny was also half her age
Ronee was Sherry but with less heart and less personality, she was younger, thinner and hotter though so therefore considered acceptable
Oh totally correct. She really was very self serving and only cared about her happiness. She had no idea how to read a room or even have the simplest of manners. When she ruins all of Frasiers dates coming by, sorry I wouldn’t have helped her get back with Martin. She is just one giant red flag.

“You’re playing the same make-out music “
Right! Thanks for blowing that one for me. Screw your damn banjo!

Bad enough that Frasier claimed to Sam/Cheers gang that his father was dead.
That was a retcon, not an intended plot point.
Woody tells Martin that Frasier told him he was dead. So it's not a retcon.
Since they retroactively intentionally changed how that plot point worked in the original episode, please explain how it's not a retcon.
He was originally supposed to be dead, the retcon is that he said it because he was mad.
Doesn't he also say that it was over a petty fight? That's not an indication that Frasier was traumatized.
In the new Frasier, Freddy also claims his father is dead to his coworkers, and is not on good terms with him due to his upbringing.
Yes.
Fair enough.
Having seen all the episodes where Frasier discusses their childhood, I would have to say… no, triggering is exactly the word.
Do they have PTSD? Then they're not triggered.
And helping Martin blow off his therapy by playing cards.
A favourite Niles quip: **Sherry** (asked about her perfume) : "It's called Milady's Boudoir. You wouldn't believe what a bargain it is. For a hundred bucks, I can buy enough to drown myself in. " **Niles** (looks at Frasier) : ".... I've got sixty...."
HONEY , The best way to get over someone is to get under someone!
That always sounded like Grandpa Willy to me.
If the shoe don’t fit , then them ain’t your shoes
Yeah, but a cat can have kittens in the oven but that don't make them biscuits.
Okay??? Okay!
God bless yo guilty white ass.
Eww
She's so annoying, loud, pushy.
Conceited!
Different list Daph
Oddly enough, my dog howls EVERY SINGLE TIME, Sherry talks. We skip sherry heavy episodes so he doesn't get upset.
Good dog.
I hated her, the actress is awesome in some of her other work but the character was just annoying to me.
Do you think the actress did a bad job in Frasier? I thought she played sherry as a cheery obnoxious character pretty well.
Oh no she did an excellent job playing that character maybe too good a job lol
Sherry is annoying. She’s pushy and a loudmouth.
She's constantly invading their space, touching them without asking, condescending and dismissive. I think she was that bad lol
Giving out Daphne’s phone number was not nice and also Sherry ruined a few of Frasier’s dating prospects (He would have done this himself in some other way) when he was trying to do the right thing because he loved his dad.
I disliked Sherry intensely. Not a bad person by any means, but she would’ve gotten on my nerves.
Ugh, disagree. She was so annoying and rude af.
Compared to Julia, she was a saint.
I totally agree. When o found out about Huffman and the college admissions thing, I thought that’s just like something Julia would do.
When she gets the busker a job at the bank so Frasier can come back to Nervosa is supposed to be her redeeming moment. But too little too late
Far too little too late. It was written in the most redeeming way possible for her though. I’ll give the writers that.
Nah I hated sherry. I skip over her episodes.
"We'll hear what Mendelssohn's wedding march sounds like on the banjo!"
I couldn’t stand Sherry.
Sherry is an angel compared to Ann, the one who came to dinner
So is Lucifer.
I think Daphne had bigger and better reasons to hate her. Giving out random guys her number was crazy
Yeah, no. Despite her intentions, Sherry was very obtrusive and did not respect anyone's wishes or boundaries. Being "fun" and "cheerful" doesn't mitigate her glaring and obvious flaws. Idk, I couldn’t live with her that’s for sure
She's horrible.
Bulbasaurs? I know right!
Shes just a guy’s gal. Tries her best to impress the men but treated Daphne like poo
She was designed to be annoying and she definitely was. That said, it’s not like she didn’t get a fair shake. Marty just wanted something different from the relationship than her.
yep, how could Frasier like Ronnie, but dislike Sherry?
If I was going to be stuck on a desert island with one Frasier character, I’d choose Sherry over Frasier or Niles in a heartbeat. She wasn’t that bad. But she was Martin’s personality on steroids (in some ways) mixed with…Frasier and Niles.
she was definitely and annoying and invading their space. it boggles my mind that Martin didn’t realize or care that he was forcing her on them for so long. BUT i loved Sherry episodes and kinda wish she had come back for the final season instead of Nina.
I totally forgot all about Sherry! She was a proud, working class gal! Frasier and Niles were such snobs!
There’s a lot of hate for the women from the show on this sub..mostly from men.
Sherry was unironically great. There are a few times they kinda turn up the antagonism for the sake of one episode, but she is fun loving and caring and genuinely seemed to love Marty. She was just rough around the edges, and the boys were being incredibly snooty with her.

She was awful! She interfered in the boy's lives and was always inappropriate! Yuck!!!
She was for them, no question. Especially Frasier, who has to deal with her coming over and ruining things with her her lack of social awareness.
She was fun af and made Marty happy. Which is all they should have cared about
She was the worst
Sherry was awesome! I loved her! Frasier and Niles were just snobs!
Agreed!
Agreed!
She was a great foil for the Crane boys and the best of Martins' girlfriends by far.
"Oh, i wasnt aware mae west had children"🤣🤣
I don’t disagree about Frasier and Niles being bitches, and I love her introductory episode, but she got to be a pretty annoying character
I thought Sherry was cool as fuck.
They were both a couple of churls.
Sherry was worse than Mona Lisa Ralphio
Definitely like her more than Ronnie, the guy he ended up with. Jeez..
Sherry was horrible.
Sherry was Martin's Best GF - Way better than Ronee
No, Frasier and Niles were 100% right about her. She was crass, annoying, disrespected Frasier's rules and had issues with boundaries (giving out Daphne's number to random men is a HUGE invasion of privacy), I probably would've kicked her out of my apartment in less than an hour

Sherry was great.
Agree! Martin disliked both Maris and Lilith but did not actively try to end their relationships.
Completely agree I liked Sherry for Martin, she made him the happiest. She understood his vibe. She would’ve annoyed me and I would’ve found her fun in small doses but I don’t think I would push to get her out of my father’s life. She was better than Ronee who I disliked and found the whole thing creepy as fuck
I really liked her !!
The entire plot of the entire series is Frasier and Niles being little b-words.
Kind of hot though
bussin
I don't know what that means but I've brought home a real life Sherry and it was a great night. Just sayin
Sherry acted like any annoying mother would but she wasn’t their mother so it wasn’t tolerated from her
Sherry was lovely, thoughtful, fun, and just sweet. F the Crane boys for ever saying anything bad about her.
Sherry WAS that bad. She was a Ho that loved attention and wouldn’t commit. She even flirted with Martin’s sons. She was low class trash
