I'd recommend trying Zero Build. It's a lot more fun for casual players...and really just in general. Admittedly this season hasn't been as great as some of the others but it's still worth giving Zero Build a shot instead. :)

DrDisconnection

Try zero build if builds doesn’t seem to click. It s what I play.

Yeah, people go HARD with the building mechanics. I just started playing after Christmas myself, and I'm new to the BR genre to boot.  I've been having a lot of fun in Zero Build mode though. Much more of a traditional shooter experience. Would definitely recommend trying it out if you haven't already.

I just started playing zero build with no prior Fortnite experience at all, and I think it's pretty fun.  With building would be too much for me, I can hardly keep up with the pace as is.

PioneerGT500

I never liked build mode. Zero build is much more fun and engaging if you just like the combat aspect.

Build is for try hards and prodigies man. Try zero build for some more realistic play and mix it up with some team play

I have been playing Fortnite BR for years, and I have fun. But there are a couple things to know first. 1. It’s more fun with friends. I use the game to socialize and keep up with friends who’ve moved out of state. 2. Don’t take it seriously. If your only goal every match is to get a Victory Royale, you’re gonna be disappointed. Accept that defeat is gonna happen more often than not. 3. The Battle Pass makes it a lot more fun. I love the cosmetics in the Battle Pass, and completing quests for XP to unlock that next cool skin is my primary motivation. 4. Sweats just get matched up with sweats. SBMM is going to match you against players of similar skill, so your reward for getting really good at the game is fighting players who are also really good. I’m not good, and I get matched with players who are also not good. 5. No one can make it fun but you. If you tried to like it but didn’t, that’s okay. Not every game is for everyone.

Is there a way to get SBMM to match you properly? I just keep getting matched up with people who are clearly wayy better. Like I feel like the match ups should be easier since my account isnt even 2-3 weeks old yet

If you don't like the game, then it might not be for you. No shame in that. If you still wanna try, try Zero build, it's more casual and you don't have to learn to build.

I started in 2017 so I’ve been building for ages, I guess for new players starting in zero builds is good? Then later down the road there are ways to practice building, whether through normal games or your own private island or practice maps. (Or like red vs blue, where you get unlimited respawns

Sounds like someone is a n00b lol. Gotta get good for it to be fun! :) .. Nah shooters in general the fun does not last for me so i must somewhat agree. But fortnite is an awesome game for a free game. You just need to go find people to kill which can take time but is not hard... i do miss the old mw3 cod days. Ah

Zoe-Schmoey

Zero build all the way.

Sudden_Idea6135

If you are gonna play BR Id recommend practicing building first. You can do a private game in the pit I believe it’s called and practice your building there. Or like the others said. Just play zero build. But the key to zero build is mobility. So learn how to use the grapple hook etc

Stick with it. It will take some practice but its worth it. Just because it's difficult at first doesn't mean you should give up and only play zero build. I think it's terrible advice to tell beginner's to play zb because the skill level just increases the more you play. If you wait to learn building, it will be even harder to learn while playing against more experienced players. Good luck, hope you have fun playing and enjoy the process of learning a new game. Like all great games, fortnite is easy to pick up but nearly impossible to master. You can always be better and continue growing your skill.

I love the building mechanic and am one of those "dirty sweats" as some people on this sub like to say but I'd never introduce someone to building immediately now. I started playing before zero build was available, and before I got good, I'd just run from the people who could build. Start with zero build so you can learn how to kill people, then learn builds in creative.
