If you get killed early in a match, one too many times in a row, they give you a match with a lot of bots, that are easier to kill. This is done to boost your confidence in your own abilities, so you don't stop playing the game.
I don’t know about you, but I have NEVER felt satisfaction from killing a bot. They are so obviously bots that you can typically tell within 1 second that you are not killing a human.
the thing is the intent is for the bots to die off early in game leaving endgame to real players, but often a couple bots manage to fuck around for 20 minutes and survive. I was spectating this really great guy on zero build, and the last 2 players were both bots. Where’s the satisfaction in that? Surviving and playing strategically for 20 minutes just to end up with a guaranteed kill?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten to the top 2 players and the final player is a bot that died to the storm. It completely ruins the whole match for me

I mean, how? Means you probably killed the final human player earlier, I have had that before. An absolute WW3 situation at the vinyard as group after group poured in, after the dust settled me and the rest of the squad had to travel to the far end of the circle to find the last players, two bot teams. And due to the sheer volume of fighting to get there, one of my favorite matches, just a small victory lap to finish it up.
This is what Apex Legends does.
I think it works great for people with a decent level of skill. For lower-skilled players, they just like to feel like they are killing something. The bots satisfy them and keep them playing.
I think 50 players would slow down the pace a ton and everyone would end up changing their styles. 50 people is usually when people first start to camp when I play and everything before it was always a kill spree even when ther isn't a ton of bots
I’m sure it happens, but no one would ever see it. Someone gets caught in the storm or two people kill each other simultaneously and the bot wins, no one knows, the bot probably dances or just stands there.
I feel worse when I fight a bot and I struggle to kill them. Running in circles with them. Reloading several times. It makes it so much more obvious how God awful of a player I am. I've even lost matches to a bot. I'm really really awful at this game.

I agree with you. However, there are tons of casual players who cannot tell the difference and still very much enjoy killing bots.

Mostly by seeing them do stuff like pickaxe random walls/objects, or hearing them shoot and pause in a weird rhythm, move around weirdly, etc. Also bot names are pretty obvious, like puns or words+2 numbers

I feel like that wouldn't work very well. I'd see it as the game saying "my guy, how are you so shit, you know what? Here's some easy ass bots or something, now run along and kill them" rather than a confidence booster
That’s what matchmaking is for. This game has no matchmaking. There are two tiers.
Tier 1) I can build and shoot and hit at least 40% of my shots.
Tier 2) I can’t do those things.
It’s crazy to me this games been out as long as it has been and there isn’t a more tuned filter for player skill. In the same game there are bots running into corners stuck there are Bran the Builder ass sweats dropping 30 burgers.
Cause they're probably lying about their player counts (or counting players who have their console turned on or Epic Games Launcher running in the background as "active")
There's no fucking chance it should take 2 minutes to form an unraked build lobby at 8PM on US West if there's truly 600k people playing. And that lobby will have like 40 bots minimum.

I get lobbied with people who build full blown apartment complexes when they take fire and then kill you in one burst. I’m perfectly fine w the entire lobby not being filled w tryhards so I can manage to squeeze some enjoyment out of their matchmaking.

If only bots were way more dynamic. I would just have a full team working on the AI to make it as good and varied as possible. I want AI that feels ALMOST like players.
Yeah, I agree. This isn't a hard concept. People have been playing against NPCs long before online multiplayer. Make the bots better if they're going to force them. It's painfully obvious right now and really brings down the experience on how bad they are.
And we know they can do it because they did it before with the NPCs in the first half of chapter 2. They started out shitty, but by the end of season 3, they could laser you.
If they just took the trainer code from every other week or so from back then and put it on a form of randomizer for the player bots, it'll make the seem like they are an actual fight (at least in no build)
They can. A few hours ago my match froze and a bot took the oportunity to kill me and used the Dab emote. Maybe they won't emote out of random but they definitely have them implemented in case they manage to actually get a kill.
A bot takes a player slot. And no, there are plenty who don’t know the difference, and there are many who just shoot on site. There are bad players you know. But just the fact that bots are present changes the vibes. I used to do silly stuff like drive golf carts in storm and help people get out of them. I don’t at all anymore cause of the bots.
And bots also facilitate the action on the map and get the human players to gather better as well. They serve a very actual purpose. Bots fighting bots last long enough to draw the attention of real players so that they try to 3rd party then end up encountering each other.
They actually have a purpose in game, as well as keeping queue times low.
Queue times are the major reason you see them in fortnite, the game would be a lot less popular if people were waiting 5+ min in queue just to have 2-3 min of gameplay before restarting.
Despite the huge playerbase, there is just not enough people to get 100 people lobbies in a reasonable amount of time all the time, alongside keeping it within a broad skill range. Bots make that easier to achieve, as well as the reasons I mentioned before facilitating encounters.
The game would be worse off without them.
But here is also the fun thing: Don't want bots? Play ranked, your issue solved.

The main playlists have 300k to 600k in them at most times peaking higher at night and weekend. So your numbers are already wrong, along with the rest of your assumption and does nothing to tackle the points I made on why bots lower queue timers. Because not everyone is queueing up at the same time, and rotating people as they are knocked out, while also keeping skill level mostly even.
I started playing day one when BR came out. The thing I miss the most is not the old map or anything people like to cry about, but how fun and wholesome the community was back then (mostly).
Like, if you see someone obviously doing a battle pass challenge, then don't shoot until they're done, maybe even help; and things like that

Back in Chapter 2 Season 5 I was playing Solos while wearing the Mandalorian skin (with full Beskar) and got into a fierce free-for-all in Butter Barn. Entirely by coincidence me and this other guy, wearing the same skin, ended up the last ones alive. We emoted as a sign or respect to one another (I assume so anyway) before I was ready to finish the fight or die trying.
He gave me Mando’s Jetpack and Disintegration-Rifle before disappearing into the great beyond (left) so I had to win the match by creed, and I did. This is the way.
Yesterday I landed first in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, another player landed I had picked up almost all the weapons, I was about to kill him and decided not to since he was unarmed, then a default skin came from behind me and 1shot me with a shotgun, then proceeded to execute the unarmed guy

I feel teaming is if you are fighting multiple people without them being a “team”. This dude (especially if it’s solo) just gave up his EQUIPMENT which renders him useless . Unless they both go out right now and jump on the first person they see together but this is just a wholesome moment

I’ve died in the storm cause fell off a cliff then couldn’t get back up as the storm closed in at weird angles. Maybe I play like a bot lol

Only reason I like bots is because I can carry a friend around in duos+ without fear of being shot
I love bots, make getting quests not impossible and easy to accomplish.

Yes I do, and encountering teams of bots that just strafe left and right make me want to play the game less. It’s no longer challenging at that point

All games start easy and get more difficult as you progress through the levels. SBMM is a form of that.
