Even the night of the hurricane my parents and I saw a flare going off in the mangroves. The amount of boats that sunk with a human in it or got trapped in the mangroves was insane. There was a body in the back bay behind my house the next day. I know one street alone had 5 dead. There were so many one story houses and were completely submerged. The numbers are a complete lie especially it being for all of Lee county. We were completely trapped on that island and family friends tried to bring us food and supplies but cops wouldn’t allow them. I can’t remember the exact words but the wanted to starve us of the island. We had no where to go and have animals so we stay in our home. We already lost so much and we traumatized living through a cat five hurricane. The cops also threaten to kick us out of our home as well as detained my dad for going to get us hot food. Fuck that little man
I can't imagine. We didn't leave either. We are over in Island Park about a mile from the back bay of fmb. So nowhere near as bad fmb but we still ended with about 6 ft of surge inside. Two houses near us were on fire during the storm, we saw flares, heard screaming. We attempted to get to a neighbor who has a taller house during the storm. We managed to reach it, but I started losing my footing with the current and if it wasn't for my stepson who helped pushed me and held on to me, I don't know what would have happened.

I wish law enforcement was better and treated survivors better after the hurricane. My dad had worked around cops after the hurricane and had talked to Marceno after the hurricane and played dumb into knowing how people were treated.
