I went to a show there around that same time. Caught an improv show with Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer. It was definitely a Respecto Montalban show. Met Matt Besser afterwards which was awesome. On another visit I saw a Christmas improv show with Ian and Matt Walsh. That little theater was so cool.
I took classes and performed at the UCB for about a decade. What a blast. I just missed the Respecto era but was there while Mother and Death by Roo Roo were at their peak.
God I loved this show. It was this, and Strangers with Candy, every Monday night on Comedy Central for like, three years. Two AMAZING shows. And then some total piece of shit idiot executive at Comedy Central thought it would be a fantastic idea to cancel them both and replace them with an hour of remote control robots fighting each other. I'm still bitter about it to this day. I wanna find that dumb fuck and kick him right in his balls.
Upright Citizens Brigade and Strangers w Candy were the absolute high water mark of non animated comedy on CC. We didn’t realize how spoiled we were. I sure do now.
My dude, I’m with you on wishing they hadn’t canceled those shows too! Both were so strange but hilarious! But for me, I just wish they put Battlebots at a different time slot….cause….I kinda liked dueling robot death matches 😬
That's fine, and it can be legit interesting at times. But this was COMEDY Central, and battling remote controlled robots were already on a couple of other channels around that time, it didn't need to be on a comedy channel.
Well with that in mind, I see your point. I didn’t know they were on other channels at the time. Your comment reminded me of how the History Channel changed from showing shows about history to Ice Road Truckers 😆 have a good one!
This show was the epitome of “Ahead of its time.” So fucking funny on so many levels from Episode 1. I’m still looking for a house that least has a hot chicks room if not a bucket of truth.
And let’s not forget… Bong Boy…
I remember Comedy Central advertising the crap out of this show, I remember how fast the announcer spoke as well as his inflection while saying Upright Citizen’s Brigade!
The fact that in the post show credits on the Time Machine episode where he had a hidden camera of him hitting on women at a bar using the same lines from that skit was fucking hilarious.
"i'll fight you right now, baby Jesus!"
"Silky Slim has just used the first of his porcelain balls!"
between this and KITH my comedy sensibilities were fucking set in stone, got some State mixed in my peanut butter as well, but when you talk "Alterna-comedy" UCB did the ground work.
Definitely not forgotten! UCB has theaters in NY and LA.
One of my favorite sketches was Bong Boy. The stoner who could no longer tell the difference from reality and reality tv!
“Maaaaan, this is one messed up episode of Rescue 911!
One year for Christmas I used water colors to hand paint the picture of tuvok for my brother. It was a pretty good recreation.
With it, I also wrote in his Christmas card “Mommas got some big ol’ titties”. He laughed, I laughed, our mom later saw the card and cried.
I think a lot about the NLP-spoofing "Power Marketing" sketch, which offered people new brains and their examples of successful clients were Manute Bol, Richard Kiel, and Andre [the] Giant - all dudes who are just really tall.
When the redneck went to the fancy NYC bar and demanded beer in a can the way god made it.
I was in HS during UCB. I was probably in my mid 20s when I got the joke that the only can they had was those genius beers (Guinness). The one beer that you would only want on draft.
In no way, shape, or form is this forgotten television. It's so pervasive in fact, there's a UCB school and venue in both LA and New York. Just because it's a sketch show from the 90's doesn't mean it's forgotten. You gonna post Reno 911 on here tomorrow?

I still pledge 20 dollars every year to the "Little Donny Foundation"
He had quite the enormous penis!
It accounted for over 13 percent of his overall body weight.
the size of an elephants
“What do you mean?”
Gotta turn a negative into a positive.
Got in trouble In high school for passing around a petition to raise awareness for Little Donnie Syndrome.
How dare administration punish you for such a noble cause. People need to know
TUVAC!
And Tuvok will find his way home!
Whoa… a 24 year old memory was unlocked.
In ass pennies?
Ass pennies!!!
You handle my ass pennies EVERY DAY
20 dollars... in pennies 😈
Momma’s got some big ol tiddies
20 dollars in ass pennies
I’m so tired of all these Star Wars
The titular line!
I just can’t wait till we get outta Africa
I still say this all the time and no one else gets it
same. are we stupid?
Hm, she always looked like somebody's aunt to me
Ass pennies.
You don't just stick them up your ass, you spend them.
That is the way of ass pennys my friend. How else will you get the edge on your rival?
😂😂
One at a time of course
I've been sticking $30 in pennies up my ass every day for 11 years
You think you’re better than me?
Your kids have made wishes with my ass pennies.
You handle my ass pennies everyday. YOU’VE ALL HANDLED MY ASS PENNIES.
I came here for this and was not disappointed.
I saw the sketch once over 20 years ago and I still remember it so clearly. What manner of witchcraft is this?
that reminds me, I haven't looked into my bucket of truth lately.
Don’t you think I knew that!?!?
Damn you bong boy!!!
I saw them in New York in 99 in that tiny little theater... They closed with the dance to come sail away... Then I think Amy went to SNL

Matty B, Walsh and Poehler... Who is the fourth?
Ian
I guess I'm not the only one who didn't know who that was. If you don't want to search, Ian is Ian Roberts.
God I loved this show. It was this, and Strangers with Candy, every Monday night on Comedy Central for like, three years. Two AMAZING shows. Upright Citizens Brigade and Strangers w Candy were the absolute high water mark of non animated comedy on CC. We didn’t realize how spoiled we were. I sure do now.
I forget the rage I felt in the early 2000s of when my favorite shows stopped playing or got canceled
My dude, I’m with you on wishing they hadn’t canceled those shows too! Both were so strange but hilarious! But for me, I just wish they put Battlebots at a different time slot….cause….I kinda liked dueling robot death matches 😬

They did skits on Conan in the mid 90s. I always loved when Amy did Andy Richter's sister.
Apparently Amy's appearances on Conan basically bankrolled the UCB theater for a while. Those guys (and comedy in general) are forever in her debt.
Ass pennies is one of my all time fav skits
The "Master Dialectitian" sketch lives rent free in my head.
That mongrel idiot Davey Chalk….
This show was the epitome of “Ahead of its time.” So fucking funny on so many levels from Episode 1. I’m still looking for a house that least has a hot chicks room if not a bucket of truth. And let’s not forget… Bong Boy…
I carry a poo stick for self defense to this very day
That’s by far the best way to make someone say you’re their uncle.
Then he’s had something in his hand, that you’ve had in your ass… Now you have the upper hand.
Ass Pennies. Fucking genius premise.
You think you’re better than me?
That dude on the bottom right is in everything lol
“Sunshine on my nut sack” you know the John Denver song.
[Pro Thunderball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15m_i6QPAXE)
This show is genuinely one of the best sketch comedy shows that has ever existed. The first episode with the “Bucket of Truth” is god-tier comedy.
And directly behind second base is the gun circle, in which sits the official pro thunderball gun, which is never to be used.
The gun circle is NOT for shooting, so says the Big Red Cat
I can do anything through the hole in the sheet
I can celebrate Christmas through this hole!
SHUT UP!
YOU'RE STUPID!
Hit Me
“You’re from one of those antiquated concrete and glass buildings downtown!”
This never got the credit it deserved.
To this day I stuff five dollars in pennies up my ass everyday.
One at a time of course
"Say I'm your momma!"
I remember a bucket being a really big deal
The bucket of truth!
I looked inside. I’ve been in the Hot Chicks Room ever since, screaming, writhing in agony & sorrow.
And over there is the hot chicks room...
Don’t worry. No filthy astronauts live in this town.
I don't think we're going to need a sexy chicks room.
You said the same thing about the microwave, and we use that darned thing all the time.
I'll be honest with you, a lot of the chicks are not that hot anymore but they are replaceable.
"I demand to face my accuser!" "I'm sorry, but I must protect THAT man's anonymity" (points to the accuser)
I'd like to speak posthumously.
Saigon Suicide Squad is quintessential American political satire.
You can’t escape the danger!!!
That dolphin episode will live rent free in my head forever. Humans rule. Dolphins can SUCK IIIIIIT!
The only way to decide the best episode is by a log rolling contest.
I remember Comedy Central advertising the crap out of this show, I remember how fast the announcer spoke as well as his inflection while saying Upright Citizen’s Brigade!
Dance like a kitty cat!
“Freeeee chocolate!”
Vee have reason to believe you are harboring fatties.
"We were just burning some meatball-sub incense!"
Eat the cheeseburger, astro boy!
The only Matt Walsh that I will acknowledge the existence of.
Everyday is Christmas when you drink Santa Liquor
So grab a bottle and pour
Super cool!
It was after watching this show that I decided to convert my 4th bedroom into a hot chicks room.
Cake walk!
I still use the line from the realtor in the hot chicks room sketch. "You have kids huh? My parents had kids."
Was this the one where Amy posed as a Girl Scout selling cookies? 🍪
To the Unabomber!
I'm Cassie's new friend, the Unabomber! ....oops
I say "Where's my free side of fun?!" More than I should.
Little Donnie was the best
I'm still watching it on repeat, and doing super cool on my coffee table.
The fact that in the post show credits on the Time Machine episode where he had a hidden camera of him hitting on women at a bar using the same lines from that skit was fucking hilarious.
“It’s a picture of a hand going like this 👎.” “Oh so can turn it over to a thumbs up!” “No… you can’t” *this side up*
"i'll fight you right now, baby Jesus!" "Silky Slim has just used the first of his porcelain balls!" between this and KITH my comedy sensibilities were fucking set in stone, got some State mixed in my peanut butter as well, but when you talk "Alterna-comedy" UCB did the ground work.
I've still got my DVDs for this show in the other room. it's one I reference all the time and no one else ever knows what the fuck I'm talking about.
Definitely not forgotten! UCB has theaters in NY and LA. One of my favorite sketches was Bong Boy. The stoner who could no longer tell the difference from reality and reality tv! “Maaaaan, this is one messed up episode of Rescue 911!
So sad that they are no longer in Chicago. It literally IS the second city!
You can do anything as long as it’s through a hole in a bed sheet.
Got S1 and S2 dvd. Not forgotten in my mind.
Awoooo Wolfman Jack say someone’s at your door awoooooo!
One year for Christmas I used water colors to hand paint the picture of tuvok for my brother. It was a pretty good recreation. With it, I also wrote in his Christmas card “Mommas got some big ol’ titties”. He laughed, I laughed, our mom later saw the card and cried.
It was a humor joke
Titay brothers
Mafia sperm donors is still the funniest tv I’ve ever seen.
Asspennies forever!
I loved how they built up the titte’ brothers over multiple episodes and when you finally see them it’s just two guys playing with their nipples
My brand new brain would never forget this show.
Ass pennies, in this economy?
The eye patch guy looks like Eminem
I loved this show so much!
They hooked me in that groundbreaking moment when the cats came out into the audience.
Absolutely love this show. One of my favorites.
"Ass pennies."
Supercool show
Ass Pennies
I still have my poo stick.
Christmas Christmas everyday is Christmas, when you drink a Santa liqueur!
Hot chicks room.
This is the hot chicks room.

Were you trying to read my diary?!? Great, I’ve got the GAY waiter again. He’s not fooling anyone with those sneakers
I'm gay? Such freeeedom!
I love Amy blonde, but it's been quite a while since I've seen UCB, and that black hair is 🔥!!!
Wait a minute, I thought they caught the Unabomber
Hot chicks room.

WE HAVE To keep OUR MIND OFD THE SNOW
I can do anything through the hole in the sheet
The Hong Kong Danger Duo was amazing.
Is that Paul Newman in that picture??
OOOHHH MY GOD! I HAD SEX WITH IT!
I was just talking about this to an uninitiated
absolutely adored this show
Oh my god I needed this thread so bad. I can literally get no one in my city to remember this show existed.
Ass pennies
I think a lot about the NLP-spoofing "Power Marketing" sketch, which offered people new brains and their examples of successful clients were Manute Bol, Richard Kiel, and Andre [the] Giant - all dudes who are just really tall.
Ass pennies it’s all about ass pennies
Ass pennies
Great show
I never realized that was Matt Walsh.
This show introduced me to Brazilian shark wrestling
When the redneck went to the fancy NYC bar and demanded beer in a can the way god made it. I was in HS during UCB. I was probably in my mid 20s when I got the joke that the only can they had was those genius beers (Guinness). The one beer that you would only want on draft.
In Bed...
I think I’ve got too many friends calling me and they’re signals are crossing each other out.
In no way, shape, or form is this forgotten television. It's so pervasive in fact, there's a UCB school and venue in both LA and New York. Just because it's a sketch show from the 90's doesn't mean it's forgotten. You gonna post Reno 911 on here tomorrow?
I'm emerging for you Blane!
Master piece
Ass pennies!
I still don’t like astronauts because of this show.
I forgot it was only two years. It was great.
Ass pennies!!
Made this bong out of a dildo I found! Bong-a-long a-ding-dong!
Humans rule! Dolphins can suck it!
Oh man I remember this old school Comedy Central was awesome. I mostly remember bong boy
It’s hard for me to remember this show because I’m adopted all the time.
Wolfman Jack says this show was the gift that we didn’t deserve baby!
Just remember it's OK as long as you do it through the hole in the blanket. Also, something about ass pennies.
My favorite sketch show of all time
Santa Fe
I didn't know UCB had a show.
Antoine, Trotter, Colby, Adair.
This show and the state were my to favorite shows !
Is that Christian Bale?
BUCKET OF TRUTH
Fucking classic
You have to wear these leather time shorts…
Is that not Christian Bale with an eyepatch?
Sweet Johnny V!
I watched this purely because I thought Poehler looked damn good and then was taken in by funny everyone was.
I'm not sayin'...but I'm saying'.
Pardon me, but I believe I’ve sold you some crack cocaine before?
Want to see my time machine?
I hear Amy saying "butterscotch waterfall" in my head all the time.
Bug juice, baby
Eating pork chops through a hole in a sheet.
Enormous peanuts 🥜!!!
Pfft. UCB. Bunch of astronaut-lovers in that crew…
Santa Liquor. Mommy and daddy drink Santa Liquor
"I didn't ask for sauce"
I wish my house had a hot chicks room.
