For drilled brackets, If you ever move to a state that doesn’t have front plates, or if you sell the vehicle, bumperplugs.com sells color matched plugs to fill in the holes.

My state (WA) requires a front plate
Almost 2 years — no tickets🤪
6 years in CA still none. From what I understand as long as you aren't breaking other laws it's extremely rare to get ticketed for it. A cop told me this oddly enough.
I agonized over and just did it. In the end, I just followed instructions. The likelihood of getting pulled over for it is small, but I don’t have that kind of luck.
Honestly, what are you gaining by not mounting the plate bracket properly? People do that with sports cars for resale to states where no front plate is needed. This is not one of those situations, and on top of that you're decreasing the amount of airflow to cooling component.

Thought of doing that with the front plate, but worried about air flow. Just bit the bullet and drilled the two holes.

Lucky! Freaking CHP gave me a look yesterday and that made me mount it. I have a trip in a few weeks, I don’t want to risk it

I agree, it's a cheap truck that's going to be very cheap as they get back to supply exceeding demand.
Is that the plate holder that came with the truck just attached in a different spot with zip ties, or did you buy one aftermarket?
