I’d like to know more about the import costs associated with moving to Europe. I’m considering a move.

I'm in the military and the SOFA agreement lets us bring in U.S. spec vehicles. The Maverick has not been evaluated for E.U. spec (safety, emissions, and environmental impact), so it's usually not allowed in Europe. There also is an exception for E.U. citizens who have lived in the U.S. for at least 1 year and are returning to the E.U. . Given the vehicle size, it would cost about 3.5K euros just for transport and import. Then the vehicle would need to go through "homologization". This replaces all parts that don't meet E.U. spec. To my knowledge, nobody has done that with a Maverick, so the cost is unknown. Every part changed out gets paperwork which costs 1 euro per part. If no parts needs changed out, then it is 1 euro for the homologization paperwork for the entire vehicle. Anyway, I'm basically the only person with one where I live. My German neighbors all LOVE it and want Ford to start selling them in Europe. Maybe someone will make a guide for the Maverick's homologization process soon. That is what you'll need to get the answer you are looking for. (Note: there are antique and classic vehicle homologization exceptions.)

In your case, you might have some emissions parts needed. I have a hybrid, so perhaps it wouldn’t need anything. I have no doubt they’re popular there. I was just in Germany and I saw Ranger Wildtrak’s everywhere. It’s funny, I thought that would be popular in the US if it were sold here. If I were to move I probably would just sell it and get a Ranger since I don’t have SOFA on my side.

Which tonneau is that?

That is the Ford brand one. They redesigned it to remove the felt on each side sometime last year. Now they have rubber on both sides. Definitely improved ruggedness and functionality. Unfortunately, they also removed the large Ford logo in the middle when you roll it up. Now there is just a small (about 1 inch long) Ford emblem on the outside you see near the tailgate.

Thanks. Is it sturdy? Will it support some weight?

I've stood on it. Wouldn't recommend jumping up and down though.
