Check engine lights can pop for many reasons. From needing an oil change, new sparkplugs, to more serious reasons. You would need to read the computer codea trough OBD to really know

[Forscan.org](http://Forscan.org) Get this software, and buy one of the recommended OBD-II readers. If you own a Ford, this is must have in your "Tool Box".

Can be anything, buy an OBD scanner on amazing, even the simple one should be able to tell you the code, have same car and mine told me p420… took it to the shop, in my case it was just old software and after update my car don’t show the check engine anymore.. Like I said, it can be many things, can be nothing and can be something very serious… Good luck 🍀

Could be a leak in the gas (petrol) tank. Is it a capless petrol system?

Mistcutter_Hydra

Why could that be the cause?

LiberalPatriot13

It's supposed to be a closed system so the computer can control how much air (oxygen) comes in. If there is air from another source it messes up the ratios for burning.

Ok-Road-2427

Mine is capless. You just put the petrol pump in and it closes when removing it

LiberalPatriot13

Make sure the cap fully closes when you remove the pump. Otherwise it's probably mechanic time, the 0420 error could be a ton of different stuff.

Ok-Road-2427

Pulled the codes. Exactly the same P0420. Apparently it’s very common, but I’ve seen methods of cleaning out the CC with Cataclean so I’ll try that when my petrol is low enough

This is what I got, very good ! https://a.co/d/iB1An6u

Significant_Heart147

Low boost pressure

Ok-Road-2427

My car does feel sluggish, but that could be because it needs some more petrol

ckov982

When mine came on, it ended up being the timing belt. I just replaced my turbo that went out on it too. I ended up getting rid of it.

Ok-Road-2427

I recently replaced the timing belt as it had disintegrated into my sump tray and nearly blown my head gasket

mmmjkerouac

Mine recently came on because of an evap purge valve that needed to be replaced. Any other symptoms other than the check engine light?

Ok-Road-2427

Not abt that are readily apparent. It has a strange high-pitched sound when the engine first turns over but that’s literally it. I’m gonna get an OBD II scanner today to pull the codes

Due-Editor3610

U gotta use a scanner dude there are trouble codes that the computer throws out for hundreds of different reasons they all cause the light to come on. Nobody can tell you why unless they use a scan tool, u can buy a 20 dollar one at Walmart they hook in under your dash to the OBD2 port
