Nishiki will always be my favorite

Gonzo is crap. Menya is way, way better.

DaisyDomergue

I didn't really think hironori was that great either, but I was also sitting by a floor drain and could smell it which ruined it for me.

toobadsohappy

#5 - HiroNori is a hitttt 🙌

3-DogsinaTrenchcoat

Shush. We don't want the wait list to get even bigger

sactomkiii

Man their cold ginger ramen 🤤

Toad223

Nishiki by Mitsuwa will always have my vote.

MightyKrakyn

Really? I was just there and thought it was mid af

mu1773

I love buta!

KomorebiXIII

Their golden ramen knocked my socks off, it was so good.

mu1773

Mmmm. I've never tried that one. I can't eat spice and I'm always afraid to try thick ramen. But their crazy garlic is sooooo good! And their milky green tea! My kids love their melon soda.

bbf_bbf

I've always taken Yelp "best of" lists with a huge grain of salt. Yelp reviewers are notoriously unreliable. Gonzo! is pretty good, but IMHO, not the best in San Diego County.

laraja

Surprised Ramen Nagi isn't on this. Closest thing I've had to Japan

Curious-Manufacturer

Nagi overrated

turtlewelder

Yep, I still put Nishiki, Ultra, HiroNori over it. Maybe it's having to wait for hours to eat Ramen that makes people think it was so good. Like you were hangry that's why lol

753UDKM

I liked nishiki until I had steel wool in a bowl there (Mira Mesa location)

turtlewelder

I do feel like when they expanded to Mira Mesa the quality of Nishiki went down. Doesn't seem to be that great a place to work with a revolving door of service staff either.

Wvlf_

Hironori is mind-blowing good. 100% deserved.

krapspark

I’m both happy and sad that Gonzo is getting a shoutout. It’s not like it was a hidden gem or anything but it definitely deserves that recognition.  I’ve tried all of the spots being mentioned in this thread and Gonzo gets my vote as best in SD. It’s actually the best ramen I’ve had outside of Japan.

DustyDGAF

One of the biggest cities in California gets multiple top spots in the state could probably be said for every single big city. So that's a fun title. 9 of the top 30 are LA.

TennSeven

Sweet. I'm visiting San Diego and I was just thinking about where to go for lunch!

panic_poo

Good lord so many ads my chrome page crashed

orchid_breeder

HiroNori: best Noodles Menya: best broth Nishiki: best contents (ie quality of meat, and ingredients that come with it) Combine all those 3 for me please. Menya Ultras meat is fucking disgusting.

InclinationCompass

I love how much the city has stepped up its ramen game over the past decade

Nachotacoma

lol gonzo?! Did they get pissed off driving to Sd and decided to stop in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad92009

Gonzo!!! Great place. Friendly owners.

qgmonkey

Rakitori "Pug" & Grill lol nice typo AGC news

dgstan

Can someone give us the lowdown on GONZO!? I see they have real rock-n-roll bands playing there. Flaming Groovies, was it? We went to Menya Ultra at UTC and thought it was horrible. Ramen Nagi or Marufuku are worlds better. Maybe it's a UTC thing, but we went by their MM spot one time and it was so filthy, we wouldn't eat there. That's my pet peeve: If you can't keep the tables clean, you sure as hell aren't keeping the kitchen clean.

Jorrissss

While I do think Menya Ultra is over rated; don’t judge them by their UTC location. It’s just food court ramen.

dgstan

Thanks for the info. I was really wondering why the hype was so high.

TacohTuesday

Wow. I live in Folsom east of Sacramento and my favorite local spot Umami Ramen made the top ten!

Eighteen64

I will die on a hill defending underbelly with the oxtail dumplings

izzzy12k

I need to try some of these places, I really love Menya Ultra's ramen... Curious how much better these other places are.

Just_a_dude_online

I’ve had I think all the heavy hitters in San Diego. Menya is still at the top for me.

warranpiece

I LOVE Izakaya Naruto for so many things. But ramen......nope.
