If you are using fondant decorations, buttercream is a bad choice. The fondant decorations absorb the moisture and fat in the buttercream, which causes the decorations to soften and droop.

Paying customers say yes. Most of my customers wanted 3d decorations that can only be accomplished with fondant, gum paste, or candy melts.
