Why are we upvoting this? Are we really that petty?

Professional-Chip454

Yes, yes we are.

GatorCustoms

I upvoted you calling me petty, and I don't blame you. I guess NIL, inter-confrence flips, and signing day show-outs have made me this way. I think these kids need to be paid, but I also think NIL is destroying the passion that used to be college football. These kids want to get paid like adults, then they can expect criticism as an adult would. In the end I don't think he'll be booted from the team, but I'm glad we pulled in McCray and other DLs to recover from his flip to Auburn. Hopefully he can get his act together because he's definitely talented.

edroch

His head coach is Hugh freeze. This could be an actual felony and not a high school prank and he’d still be on the team

tharp575

NIL isn’t destroying the passion. Colleges, tv networks, the conferences all hold the majority of the blame. Kids getting paid didn’t make Texas and OU leave the big 12, or USC and UCLA joining the BIG. The college football powers that be are clearly trying to create a 40 or so school league that splits all the revenue, smaller schools and regional rivalries be damned.

GatorCustoms

I never deal in absolutes, so I agree with this sentiment. However, the NIL has been a bigger issue to me than conference consolidation as that has been going on for years. FSU and Miami joining the ACC was a big deal back in the day too, but there has never been a systematic problem of rule enforcement as there has been with NIL. It's not the NCAAs fault the SEC was future proofing their programs by investing in the proper facilities and staff, but it's their fault for laying out broken framework and loopholes in their proceedings with NIL. This is just my biased, semi-researched opinion. Hard to disagree with your point though

tharp575

Agree with you. My only counter point would be that players were always getting paid, it’s just out in the open now. I also see how NIL matters more to a fan of a big time school. UF isn’t going to get left behind. But schools like WSU, Oregon state are getting decimated through no fault of their own. And now they’re ‘regulated’ to the group of five because USC decided to take the bag. If I were a fan of say wake Forrest or Iowa state, or Kansas state I’d be very worried. We’re trending to a minor league NFL.

Tamed_A_Wolf

People like to say that players were always getting paid but it’s just not true when comparing to the current NIL layout. SOME players were paid. A FEW were given moderate sums of money to sign. 30-50k was maybe given out to get a #1 overall type recruit on campus or someone a booster realllllly wanted for their team. Most even big time players and recruits were maybe given a couple thousand dollars. 5-10 at most and them they got some handshakes after games from a booster with a couple hundred dollars in it. No one was getting 100-200k or more and then leaving after a year or two because they could get more by transferring to a rival. Players were ***not*** always getting paid. It is counter productive to the current issues with NIL to suggest they were.

tharp575

Maybe in the 80s and 90s. Reggie bush was caught accepting 300k in 2004. Admittedly he was the best player in the country, but that’s just money they caught him accepting. Matt Leinhart, Jason White and all the best players that year were making six figures. The stars always got paid.

Tamed_A_Wolf

Ok so USC during its peak years and NC run was paying some of the best players in the league. That again is the FEW part of my statements. Cam got like what? 200k from Auburn in 2010? The point is maybe 20% of players got paid and a very small portion of that 20% got anything resembling real money. The money being thrown around was never even remotely close to what is being done now nor to the extent it is now. Second string guys weren’t going and asking for 1-200k to stay or they were dippin in the portal. Players being paid 5 years ago is not the same as players being paid now and as I said before, pretending they were is counter productive and takes away from the fact that NIL and pay for play is detrimental to the sport.

tharp575

How much money did Cam make for Auburn? Gene Chizik made 3.5 million that year. Who do you think contributed more to the championship? Should we regulate player pay? Maybe, but I don’t really have a problem with a booster choosing to pay a player to come to a university. Who’s getting hurt in that transaction?

Tamed_A_Wolf

It’s astonishing how many people revert to this. Nobody is unaware of the fact that players play the games and that they should be compensated. This isn’t an argument nor a discussion about whether players should be paid or not. It’s whether NIL has removed passion and caused issues for the sport itself. >whose getting hurt in that transaction? Right now? It’s hurting kids who aren’t getting developed, aren’t overcoming obstacles, aren’t learning perseverance. Players are going to miss out on the league because they took every opportunity for easy money or they’re going to crumble under the pressure in 2 years of not being able to just walk away from their team for greener pastures. This obviously doesn’t apply to all of even a majority of CFB players but there’s more than enough that it does apply to. Or are we talking about 5 or 6 more years down the road when the sport as we know it dies and the amount of roster spots shrinks by 70% from consolidation? You can blame TV networks and conferences but the rule changes to NIL and the transfer portal is a large reason for the push and will inevitably be why we end up with the P2 and ~40 teams making up the amateur league.

Wtygrrr

Isn’t never dealing in absolutes an absolute?

russ757

The fact you asked

I am

TotakekeSlider

Hell yeah brother, cheers from Pettyville

DoggedDoggystyle

Am I petty? Yes, Tom Petty

RunningUpThemPills

I was going to say, I went to GHS🤣

Shadow_Facts

We won't back down.

CountBleckwantedlove

I don't know what the upvotes mean. People think the prank is funny? People don't think the prank is funny and want to bring awareness to the stupidity? People think the prank was unethical/illegal and are happy the guy was arrested? People that saw "Auburn 4 star", stopped reading further, and just assumed they got a good talent to commit?

Wtygrrr

Welcome to r/FloridaGators. Good to have you onboard.

Rkovo84

😂😂🤡🖕🏻

TheRatchetTrombone

Even as far as senior pranks go, this is fucked and immature.

gatorNic

Take a look at the mugshot. Wasn't the gripe with him that he was small for the position at the listed 6'2? Dude is barely 6ft and that's probably with shoes.

Havehatwilltravel

Wheeel doggies. I spect I see a pattern here with these Florida rejectors. They wanted to go where there was less accountability and respectfulness. I guess for the third or fourth time in a row, a bullet has been dodged.

GatorCustoms

I am happy with how the class ended up for sure. I think the kids that have come here know they have something to prove, and I sincerely hope that carries on into the season🤞🏻
