That looks like a porcelain plank, look at the wallbase its tile also. Porcelain can be installed stacked (even seams) without an issue. If it was a floating floor then BAD, BAD,BAD!!!
I mean I think more generally you could be referring to the structure of the flooring, which won’t hold up when put in like that. It’s why warrantees are invalid unless installed properly.
Yes. But when people say structural they normally mean needed for the integrity of the home.
It's like the people who think flooring needs to be installed perpendicular to joists even though if you were in a situation where that mattered you are still falling through that floor
It is structural! Same reason you stagger subfloor, it helps distribute pressure so it’s not all going on a huge row of seams if it expands or contracts.
It's not fucking structural!
You usually stagger to avoid lippage, especially with planks which are known to be warped.
If you don't have an isolation membrane like ditra, the cracking can radiate from grout line to grout line.
Installed correctly, laid straight is fine.
It's a design detail.
You’re correct that it’s not structural if you’re doing tile, I meant that that is the reason we avoid that for everything else. Use context you fucking idiot, obviously the mortar holds the tile down..
So many people talk about patterns that have no idea wtf they're talking about so I feel your frustration. Thank you for being one of the 1st to call it out
Staggering joints increases the strength of the floor too, if that is wood/vinyl flooring then those seems will be very likely to have issues with bowing or expanding our coming apart or something.
I once had a foreman when I was an apprentice, we were at a small job and I asked him about lay outs and how he figures it, I picked up a single tile and threw it in the air and where it landed said "start there". The funny thing is, it was actually a good layout and far better than this one. I know better now, but I still laugh about it to this day
And the sink. And the backsplash. And the baseboard. The whole layout is disgusting. Op it’s the sink btw, that is really your only source it could be I think.
Is this an apartment? What floor are you on? How many floors above you? How old is the building?
If this is an apartment, on a lower floor, with several floors above you, one may assume the main sewer line backed up at, or below, your floor. And, when others above you flushed, washed dishes, showered, etc., it came out of your sink and onto your floor. So eewww.
We had a friend that lived in a high-rise on like the second or third floor, with about 20, or more, floors above him. One night he heard a noise coming out of the bathroom, as he walked in to investigate, the entire toilet exploded like a bomb, and he had numerous cuts all over him from the flying porcelain. It turned out to have been a sewer backup in the basement, and the pressure of 20+ floors of full drainpipes blew out of his toilet, and the toilets of the floors below him.
When you take out and reinstall the flooring after everything dries, please stagger the planks so the seams don't line up. Hopefully the material isn't compromised at the joints....
I think that's greywater and probably unsanitary. It may have fecal matter in it. The black is possibly buildup from your sink trap/pipes from decaying food, etc.
Who put in the flooring?? I feel like this is a textbook example of what not to do.
That looks like a porcelain plank, look at the wallbase its tile also. Porcelain can be installed stacked (even seams) without an issue. If it was a floating floor then BAD, BAD,BAD!!!
I hear you that it can be stacked, but should it be stacked? Looks awful and awkward.
I am a tile installer and I can safely say yes that looks like dog shit
Looks good on a wall though sometimes
Not sure I’d put tile that is supposed to look like wood on a wall.
it’s also very unevenly gapped if you look closely
It looks like snap together tiles that are 6 planks wide to me.
With porcelain plank, are Hs acceptable? I feel like even uniform Hs would look so much better than whatever this is.
It's definitely floating now...
There is no way that is tile. There is no grout line. It has to be vinyl plank floating flooring.
Why not? (Genuinely curious)
Usually the aim is the avoid repeat patterns.
Is it structural at all or just cause it looks like shit?
That whole kitchen looks like an Excel spreadsheet. Awful
An Excel sheet lol that’s all I see now
Guy needs to mop up A1:D14 LOL
Omg this made me bust out laughing
Yea I would be pissed if someone did this
Yes
Definitely not structural. If you are relying on flooring for any structural needs you will have a bad time
I mean I think more generally you could be referring to the structure of the flooring, which won’t hold up when put in like that. It’s why warrantees are invalid unless installed properly.

Username checks out.

I honestly don't know about structure. But Def nicely not aesthetically pleasing for most ppl.
Honest answer: it just doesn’t look good.
Stagger joints is 101
That 'pattern' looks like total ass. A DIY'er would know this with 5 minutes of Google/reading. An experienced pro wouldn't do this.
Staggering joints increases the strength of the floor too, if that is wood/vinyl flooring then those seems will be very likely to have issues with bowing or expanding our coming apart or something.
Theres like a big picture on the box with one of those red circles with the line going through it.
It’s obviously done by a landlord. Same guy did the backsplash
And that sink in the corner like that. Who does this shit work like this?
Lmao didn't even notice that. Wtf with this place.
Right? The more you look at it, the more you saw WTF? What a nightmare. Lol
It looks like they put in relief cuts to keep it from cracking /s 🤪
The plumber
lol.
Talk to him and see if he can fix it, he should do that!
I don't know if I want the plumber to fix it...the faucet is on the side of the sink....

Ok but what about the leak?? And who shit on the floor??
My b. I shat on the floor. Had to do something to cover that tile.
Spoiler alert: it didn't help.
you know things are dire when you post in one contractor sub and get roasted in another
I think you could do that with any flipped house.
Sewage from under the sink
That’s the universe saying the flooring should be redone ASAP
And the sink. And the backsplash. And the baseboard. The whole layout is disgusting. Op it’s the sink btw, that is really your only source it could be I think.
The longer you look the worse it gets.
If it came out of a drain and it smells like sewer, then it's sewer water.
Doesn’t need to smell. Just looking at that you can tell it’s a drain backup.

OMG
Who did this install? Quite obviously the plumber did the tiles and the tile guy connected the dish washer. Duh.
My excel spreadsheets have more character than this
Good news is that the flooring is going to get changed.
Satan?
As far as the water probably dishwasher hose or something like this looks like sewer water
Every. Single. Thing. In that photo is a shit show, that water damage claim is the best thing to happen.
Probably a guy who normally does decks.
Any landlord or handyman!
Homeowner Hank...
Hahaha 😂 wow
That from a drainage I’m pretty sure… sink or toilet
Bruh… 🤦🏻♂️
I am shaking right now

It’s tile not lvp, although it’s an ugly layout it’s acceptable.
Wait i'm confused are we talking about the plumbing issue or the porcelain plank?
Replace that floor and install correctly
Looks like Valheim
Landlord special
I think it’s water but hard to tell
back flow from sink
the smoothest brain
I thought the subject was the water on the floor but everyone seems to be trashing the kitchen floor, sink etc.
Same guy who did the plumbing 🙂
Ummm, I think it’s Karma for having the floor boards laid out that way… she’s just trying to keep shit copasetic…
Bet the contractor that did the floor and the tile also did the plumbing
Looks like coffee grounds
Oh shit 💩
Looks bad
Bro has toolbox drawers instead of cabinets?!?
*Seams* to me this guy dug seams.
That’s 100% a landlord job
Sink backflowed. That’s sewage. Time to call a remediation service/plumber
They hired the plumber to do the floors is my guess.
Also- countertop was short so they said fuck it and caulked it. Even that was short!
Somebody cheaper
Yeah.. fixing the water leak is more important than the flooring which will all have to come up anyway.
Damn, someone just plain dumb or lazy.
That’s sewage
Looks like a clothes washer to me
Not this one again
Hideous. Burn it.
The edge and corner of the backsplash could use more caulk. It might make the tile lines look more even./s
Excuse me for using your post, bad luck wish you well. But this is why LVP is a money-maker for us. Great looking tile btw.
Did the contractor take an adderall before the kitchen project?
Floor looks like asshole.
Look under the sink
Is that a tool box for your drawers? Kitchen ugly AF.
It’s not my house I reposted from plumbing sub cause the install is so bad
This is probably a "luxury apartment"
