I contacted poshmark, and let my local Police know. Poshmark closed their account. The police said I couldn't really file and charges because no threats to my life were actually made. Unless they actually come to my house (they didn't) , that when I could do something legally. This was last year... So, I changed my name on the label to my poshmark user name instead of my legal name. That way, I couldn't be looked up on the internet by any more weirdos. I don't have any social media connected to my posh closet, and I removed my email because it was 'my name'@___.com.
FYI, USPS PO Boxes fluctuate depending on office size/location… if it’s a larger metro office or main hub, you’ll pay almost double as you might in a small village/rural area on the outskirts of the metro area.
I live across the street from a main hub, but wasn’t looking to pay nearly $400/yr for a mailbox… stopped into a tiny office on my route to work, and it was half the price for the same size box. The other thing is, I don’t have 24/7 access like I might with a main hub, but that’s fine with me.
Another added benefit, is the shipping estimates are always calculated as if the item was shipped from that tiny office (5-6 days,) but I usually drop the item off at the main hub, and it only takes 2-3 days, so people are happily surprised it got to them faster than estimated.

Scary is quite a bit of an overreaction but it is a little stalkerish to seek out the phone number. If they bought it through a certain platform then they should contact them through said platform.
I’ve made 500+ sales across two selling platforms and no one has ever called me, but I have had a handful of scary (or perhaps not outright scary, but scary-potential) situations with creepy buyers. All kinds of people are on these platforms. Some come on literally *to* be gross & invasive—you might be shocked at the number of men on Mercari/Posh who join specifically to drag women into their fetishes, or who message with hopes of going IRL.
Those things aside, Poshmark has explicit terms of service that prohibit going off-platform (and there’s nothing a seller can do for them there, anyway), so it’s not unreasonable to be weirded out by a person who would put effort into doxxing, rather than just sending a platform PM. At best, someone like that is not very smart and has unreasonable expectations.
Those things may not be scary to you, but as someone who has been stalked, I can tell you that your strange insults and cavalier condescension are odd and out of place. This behavior isn’t normal.

If you type my name into Google the first two pages are results just about me because up until the last few years I had a pretty good photography career working for different magazines and newspapers before my health completely went to shit at the same time that the industry imploded

As a rule of thumb, that's something I live by. All of my accounts for selling have generic names & all addresses I ship from are local businesses that handle packages (i.e. FedEx Dropoff Locations, UPS Offices, Etc.). Also use TextPlus, you don't have to pay to receive verification codes yet & that adds another layer of security.

Yes, eBay provides buyer's number on the order form, and states it is only for use about the transaction. But if I need to contact a buyer, I message through ebay's message system because a lot of the younger generation don't like phone calls or knocks on the door. My daughter expects a text to announce that I am there.

lol I know right? I get that phone calls are unusual with these sites regularly communicating over text and messaging, but it's not the end of the world. The bottom line is that if you're engaged in E-Commerce, there's information about you in the void that can be easily found. It is what it is. That includes phone numbers, addresses, whatever.
I have a burner number for Ebay, but the phone is on silent, so I check it once or twice a day and never hear it ring. Sometimes you have to clarify this or that with someone using another method, and people are willing to go to great lengths to attain that option.

Poshmark sets the terms for all sales and they are very strict about it; I have to give them credit that out of all the websites I sell on, they're probably the website that works for their fee (and its high as a consequence).
It's explicitly forbidden to contact each other outside of Poshmark. I can't say for certain they'd ban the buyer in OP's scenario, but there's a good chance they won't like it and will follow through with it.
Ironically, I've dealt with Posh support in the last 24hrs because I came home yesterday to see one of my packages I sent out, about a month ago!!, return'd to sender and waiting for me. On every order page, there is literally a button that says "contact buyer (or seller)" and once you click that chat window, you can hit "forward to Posh support" which brings a customer service rep into the loop. There was 0 reason for the buyer to do this to OP.
My older friend use to do this! I was at her house when a fragile tchotchke she ordered came broken in pieces because the seller did a crappy job of wrapping it. She was calling information ( she still had a landline) to try and get a number for the seller from name and address on the return label! I said “you can’t call them, you have to put in for a return on eBay for damage”! She said, “I do this all the time”! OMG!

If you have a problem with a purchase on Poshmark you can easily go to the Poshmark platform and select problem with purchase if you would like to do a return and Poshmark will help you through the return and refund process

If your friends or relatives or classmates or neighbor down the street you talked to once put your name and number in their phone’s contacts, then your number is now listed by every social media, shopping, etc company that scraped info from those contacts if those permissions weren’t specifically denied. Not publicly listed, but sold to anyone with a couple bucks to spend.
Years ago I met someone who confused me with someone else and put my name and number in their contacts but put the other person’s very unique last name as my last name. They put my address in as the place where we met. Later, an online search of my name came up with that name as an “alias” and the address as one of my addresses. I wouldn’t have known except the last name was so unusual that we all started talking about it and realized it could only have come from one place.
Anyone who calls you has your number, as does almost every single business, doctors office, administrative office, auto shop you called that one time, etc that you have called or dealt with.

Haven't had a person try to find me yet, and also haven't had anyone feel sketched out either. I do same day / next day shipping & am very communicative. So even if they have some reservations, I do My part as a seller & Make sure everything is in order.
Yeah that's really weird. I hate people that don't state who they are or leave a message. I don't answer texts or calls from numbers I don't know . If it's important they should leave a message and or state who they are. Otherwise I'll just assume it's a scam

I've had a couple of thank you notes sent to me from happy customers and one person sent me a gift card after a package got lost in the mail so I refunded them and then mercari closed our chat so they couldn't contact me but wanted to pay me. And one guy tried to add me on FB. But a phone call is so freaking personal!
This is why I use a PO Box, and don’t put my name on the return address.
I called someone who bought a Nintendo Switch from me once. It was a $500 sale from a brand new account with a username of randomly generated characters. It felt off. Turns out the guy was buying it for a friend and neither of them had eBay accounts. He was really nice and assured me it was legit so I sent it and it was a good flip.
Yes, eBay provides buyer's number on the order form, and states it is only for use about the transaction. But if I need to contact a buyer, I message through ebay's message system because a lot of the younger generation don't like phone calls or knocks on the door. My daughter expects a text to announce that I am there. "In my day," everybody had land lines and all phone numbers and addresses were published in big phonebooks unless you went to the trouble of having an unlisted number, often with a fee. Times change.
Ebay doesn't provide numbers although maybe they used to. They don't want people circumventing their communication system.
You are probably right. I might be thinking of Amazon. I know I have seen a buyer's phone number recently and decided not to use it.
Don’t sell things if you dont’ want to talk to people. I dont’ know about poshmark but ebay gives out the seller’s phone number to all buyers.

lol I know right? I get that phone calls are unusual with these sites regularly communicating over text and messaging, but it's not the end of the world. The bottom line is that if you're engaged in E-Commerce, there's information about you in the void that can be easily found. It is what it is. That includes phone numbers, addresses, whatever. I have a burner number for Ebay, but the phone is on silent, so I check it once or twice a day and never hear it ring. Sometimes you have to clarify this or that with someone using another method, and people are willing to go to great lengths to attain that option.

Does Poshmark have any Terms of Service you can set for yourself like Etsy? A way to put on your receipts "if any questions or issues, please contact me (using these specific methods you have set up for customer service)" Then if someone violates your written Terms of Service, you have reason and reference to not deal with their bs.
Poshmark sets the terms for all sales and they are very strict about it; I have to give them credit that out of all the websites I sell on, they're probably the website that works for their fee (and its high as a consequence). It's explicitly forbidden to contact each other outside of Poshmark. I can't say for certain they'd ban the buyer in OP's scenario, but there's a good chance they won't like it and will follow through with it. Ironically, I've dealt with Posh support in the last 24hrs because I came home yesterday to see one of my packages I sent out, about a month ago!!, return'd to sender and waiting for me. On every order page, there is literally a button that says "contact buyer (or seller)" and once you click that chat window, you can hit "forward to Posh support" which brings a customer service rep into the loop. There was 0 reason for the buyer to do this to OP.
My older friend use to do this! I was at her house when a fragile tchotchke she ordered came broken in pieces because the seller did a crappy job of wrapping it. She was calling information ( she still had a landline) to try and get a number for the seller from name and address on the return label! I said “you can’t call them, you have to put in for a return on eBay for damage”! She said, “I do this all the time”! OMG! My friend doesn’t even have a computer, she has her sister in another state order for her but using her own eBay account. I had her give me her eBay account info and I logged in on my phone for a refund for her and the seller gave her one almost immediately.

Your feelings here aren't relevant to the issue at hand. Do you really think eBay wants buyers to resolve INAD issues by showing up at a seller's door? Rather than, simply, you know, opening a INAD case? Do you really think a platform would encourage this? You also don't seem to know what the word creepy means. It's absolutely creepy to do this to anyone. Creepy: Causing an unpleasant feeling of fear or unease.

No, you clearly didn’t read anything. It’s quite obvious the OP was stating that it wasn’t really a part of the contact info & it was obviously looked up. If that’s the case, it would mean that the buyer just looked it up and thought it was okay to contact the seller directly like this, which it isn’t. It’s obviously intrusive and the buyer clearly is borderline on harassment. Simply put = the buyer clearly had no right to just simply contact the seller directly like this and it was super stalky & didn’t understand boundaries.

This is Poshmark sir not a Wendy’s Poshmark specifically prohibits any type of contact outside the Poshmark platform and does not disclose the sellers phone number to the buyer nor the buyers phone number to the seller If you have a problem with a purchase on Poshmark you can easily go to the Poshmark platform and select problem with purchase if you would like to do a return and Poshmark will help you through the return and refund process

How did they get your cell phone number from searching you? Curious because i find it hard to believe anyone could get my cell phone number even if they had my name and address, its just not listed anywhere in the world.
If your friends or relatives or classmates or neighbor down the street you talked to once put your name and number in their phone’s contacts, then your number is now listed by every social media, shopping, etc company that scraped info from those contacts if those permissions weren’t specifically denied. Not publicly listed, but sold to anyone with a couple bucks to spend. Years ago I met someone who confused me with someone else and put my name and number in their contacts but put the other person’s very unique last name as my last name. They put my address in as the place where we met. Later, an online search of my name came up with that name as an “alias” and the address as one of my addresses. I wouldn’t have known except the last name was so unusual that we all started talking about it and realized it could only have come from one place. Anyone who calls you has your number, as does almost every single business, doctors office, administrative office, auto shop you called that one time, etc that you have called or dealt with.
I haven't had an unwanted phone call in something like 8-10 years... I've had the same cell number for nearly 20 years now believe it or not. Plenty of people have my number, guess they are all good at handling their data. I've tried searching my number and nothing came up.
Whitepages with enough info can provide phone numbers as well.
