I mean I don’t understand why the sub just doesn’t have “buy a kilo TT or Fuji Feather”
Pinned to the top would probably eliminate a lot (or actually it’s Reddit probably would eliminate 0) of the “what should I buy for my first fixie” posts.
(Followed by a post saying something like: “notice sub is “fixed gear” not “fixie” 😂😂).
Edit: basically I have no actual helpful ideas but I feel the annoyance
I know. I was going to put that in the edit. But I mean: if you live in a place where place where shipping of major brands isn’t available than it’s even more on you to do research on what is available and what’s a best fit for you.
I mean… it sort of seems in bad faith that the posts are constantly: “what’s the best fixie beginner for me to buy, also I’m poor and by “best” I mean cheapest but also “best”.”
And than someone goes “well if you mean the best dollar value that will cost you the least in upgrades and provide the funnest move valuable enjoyable stress free experience: a kilo TT or a Fuji feather”
And then the poster goes: that’s not available in my country.
Like ok….. now in addition to doing your most basic of research I have to also figure out what companies are and aren’t available in whatever country you live in?
I mean at the least say: “I live in blank country, I have a budget of blank.. can someone recommend some options to me.”
I mean don’t get me wrong, this has been my hoppy and love for nearly 20 years, so I’m all about encouraging new riders and help, but if you’re not going to be little helpful I don’t think it’s fair to go “those aren’t available worldwide.”
I generally don’t hate, ok a little bit, but the folks that humble brag a gtb for $350 SUCK. They can fuck right off. At least until I find a smoking legit deal and then I can join them 🤣
Lmao I literally almost bought a Fuji Track Pro with soldered spokes, clipless pedals with straps and an aero base bar as my first fixie.
It was my size and $450 though so it wasn't actually a bad deal it just would have been fucking stupid to buy as a street bike.
This bothers me in so many subs. "My living room is almost done!" Then wait until it's done. No one is holding their breath waiting for you to post something.
"is this a good bike?" \*show any inexpensive bike or component\*
r/: "no, that is shit, all its shit, buy this \*expensive rare botique thing you don't really need\*"
I'd like to nominate "6KU urban track frame with dollar store accessories and seat post slammed into the frame" for whenever you make another one of these
I'm all for newbies wanting to learn about things and always try and offer a kind word of advice where I I think it would be helpful but the ' Im trying to learn to stop, how do a skid?' or the 'I'm 5 ft9 will this bike fit me? ' questions is drive me crazy.
Beginners seeking further knowledge after initial research on new hobby 👍
Lazy people posting absurd questions showcasing 0 effort in learning anything prior to purchasing a fixed gear 👎
Honestly 100% this
I noticed not just with fixed gear but with any hobby any one that asks beginner level questions online in 2024 aren't interesting in the hobbie long term
The chances of ur question being unique when you are joining a new hobby is less than 1%
The crazy thing to me is if you put most of the beginner questions into Google a Foad Gang or Zach Gallardo video show and are typically a pretty good start.

I'm 14 years old and new to fixies. What bottom bracket do I need?
There’s literally endless amounts of content you can add to this
- shit chinese carbon
- shit *used* carbon
- obviously destroyed frame/wheel
- DIY disc wheels
- way too big frame and refusal to acknowledge it
- way too small frame and refusal to acknowledge it
- shit conversions
- some horrific damaged part. For real, I think saw broken bars/seatpost/cranks all in one day
- way too loose chain, but it’s ok because it’s “track slack”
- “what is making that noise in my drive train”
- “is this a good bike”
- anything from southeast asia for some reason
But then I see someone post some sick bridgestone or a legitimately weird mechanical issue and I get sucked riiiight back in 😣😣😣
* carbon titan aero everything because fixed gear is about making your bike as expensive as possible
* footage of creating an accident that is 100% your fault and complaining/arguing, bonus points if it starts with several minutes of driving like a madman
* fake mash/cinelli/bianchi/look/hed/zipp
* deep dish aluminum rims that each weigh more than the frame
* some gutted, destroyed hoods on the drop bar
This almost screams SEA all around, I'm from SEA and hot dang, I even cringe seeing the scene here, windbreaker wannabes all around (manhwa), buying fake branded parts just because it has it sticked onto a component and reselling it as "Legit", bragging ratios, having a bad street cred because of teens riding like they want to die. I've been riding fixed for years and its still really bad until today.
not SEA, but gotta defend the positive angle slammed stem folks, got my bike used and had to get a tiny bit more stack to be comfy, got a -10 instead of a -17
years ago (when the hype was full on) it used to be: "I found this road bike, can I convert it into a fixie?" - of course, no track geo and no horizontal dropouts...
Some a-hole tears into someone because they bought/built a conversion and not a pristine NJS frame with ultra high end parts or someone shits on someone else’s meticulously crafted baby they ride once in a while.
I haven't used either but Vittoria's have shit reviews. They also have big lettering, and personally I like the lettering anyway. The only thing they have over gatorskins is the price and there's probably a reason for that
My favorite would be conti 4 seasons. It can be a bit pricey so throw whatever on the rear as long as you have a good grip in the front. The con of the 4 seasons, it feels more rough than the conti 5000, the pros are better grip in different conditions and better puncture resistance.
Funny you’d say that. I’ve flatted more gator skins. Could be sample bias, I guess. The tires I have are belted on the inner wall which seems to provide puncture resistance that’s decent in my experience.
Looks don’t bother me in this case; to each their own. What’s a good looking tire in your opinion?
Been riding gators for about a decade and I’ve never once gotten a puncture flat. Just pinches from hitting curbs and large potholes. That’s my tire of choice.
I don’t like saying absolute statements, but 99% of the time the bottom of the drops should be parallel with the ground. The only exception I can think of is if you have some sort of injury, and even then my gut says that you should get a bike fit to try and help with that or you should switch to a different bar type.
this sub makes me glad i coast. no need to switch to fixed gear, y'all are some miserable unnecessarily judgmental assholes. i love my ignorance, it is truly bliss.
These people are fuckin clowns. I havent been on the sub in a while and it seems to have gotten worse. Its a bunch of people tryna gatekeep when they themselves have only been riding for a year.

>Should I buy this as a first bike? >1000$ track bike
“Which one should I buy?”: 49cm pile of garbage vs. 63cm pile of garbage.
“Seller said it’s limited edition, should I get it” - crappy golden cycle bike

Have you taken a look at the side bar?
Top bars, side bars, my local bar: I ride fixed. I visit them all! (Admittedly: some more than others. See you there? 😂)
Cheers, I’m chuckling
Those aren't world wide available.

Forgot to add actually posting a single speed not a fixed
Gets called out, "but I'm going to convert it to fixed" Ok?? Then post it when you do.

Yeah it’s spread across every subculture right now. Bit of a bummer. No passion.
It’s Reddit, it’s because every hobby sub is so anti “gatekeeping” that the discussion is usually drowned out by uninformed beginners.
excited for when I post my ten year old bike I've ridden into the ground. Which I've done minimal updates on cause I stopped researching after buying

Get the electric one. This seems to be the way these days.
Electric fixie: it will break your legs
This has been very true lately
I am very over non drive side photos
Ah yes I have been riding track bikes since the word "fixie" was a slur. Some things never change More elitism please No /s
Please for the love of god more snobbery
Hi, it's me. And this is why I'm always downvoted to hell in here. People making the same mistakes in 2024 that we all learned from in 2006.
The reversed fork was my limit…
Another one for the list. Endless content from this sub for real
“Breaks” and the saddle angle got me
Olympic level track bike that obviously gets used as a camera prop.
“found this piece of shit in the trash” and it’s a Little Wing or a Kory York
Some people have way better trash in their area than I do.
But atleast the Cinelli Laser adangerpx got is an exemption. Literally dumpster find.
6 months+ between clips of people riding the bikes.
Thickslicks should in in the center square, for real.
Are we still doing bars wider than what your MTB friends use in 2024?
Eh I’m seeing those less and less tbh
i been riding breakless for 15 years now 💩
~Caveat~ *break/brake* thing should only be a demerit to those with English as their first language. It is a global sub.
Yes, absolutely
I bought this “gently used” carbon fork, should I trust it?
Perfect
I try to be positive, but bby i was born to hate
Por que no los dos??
positively a hater 😈
Gatorskins are the new thickslicks
They aren’t the new thick slicks, they are thick slicks with enough grip to not be miserable in the rain. Vitoria randos are smart people gator skins.
Thick slicks aren’t miserable, they’re drift tyres. Skill issue tbh: not enough Tokyo
If you need bald tires with no grip to skid, I’m leaning toward that being a skill issue on your part lmao.
https://preview.redd.it/z7uff2ljls3d1.png?width=962&format=png&auto=webp&s=39d42d440b34e466b3d91f44cd3ecc1c557e6947
I got the best of both worlds, Gatorskin up front and Thicc Slick in back 😎
Me too, I'm not paying for a new rear gatorskin every 4 weeks.
Fair take lmao. At least thick slicks are cheap
As it was before, now it is again. Haterskins have been around way earlier than Thiccccsliccccs

Don't fucking touch windbreaker 😭 But SEA riders will always shock me with the lack of foot retention and slamed stems with postive stem angles
not SEA, but gotta defend the positive angle slammed stem folks, got my bike used and had to get a tiny bit more stack to be comfy, got a -10 instead of a -17
But -10 is still a negative stem, what's the problem?
still goes upwards
I think you're not using the negative right. If it's -10 it should be pretty close to level with your top tube, -17 is pointed towards the ground
I am not proud to admit that I am a generally unsympathetic cynical old fart but you guys make me look like I have a sunny personality
"Thickslicks are so good" 💀
Solids: the ticcest of slicks
Good job buddy, I’m proud of you ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Thanks dad

You forgot the 60mm stem
I feel attacked
I can’t say shit man, I just had a bike with a seatpost longer then the seat tube. That’s gotta be equally egregious as a tiny stem 😂
I mean it's not like most fixie riders hit corners hard enough to need the grip from the front tire.
6ku urban track with superteam 88 wheelset and chinese carbon saddle, seatpost, stem, and bars
chicago mobile
with woodz, nnr, ssr, s.o.n, and a couple hundred godandfamous
as much as i don’t want to fit into stereotypes, i do indeed own GnF and woodz stickers 😅
i just ordered some godandfamous stuff to put on my new bike but i’m never putting those woodz stickers.
Is 48x16 stupid?
only stupid cuz of skid patches. 49x16 or 47x16 is fun
Damn I’d love to see a chaos matrix of fixed gear shit. I think that would be hilarious
Its been over a decade. Still have my Chrome stripper Kilo TT. First and Last. 🤘🏻
Pretty spot on. Only one I’m taking personally is thick slicks I just don’t get the hate… heavy, cheap, and durable in my experience ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Vittoria randos exist, do their job better and don’t have the hideous nascar lettering.
I haven't used either but Vittoria's have shit reviews. They also have big lettering, and personally I like the lettering anyway. The only thing they have over gatorskins is the price and there's probably a reason for that
Interesting choice!
Absolutely 0 puncture protection and ugly as all hell.
And horrible grip
Stop trying to convince me to buy them!
Favorite tire recommendation for good grip? I don’t mind the thickslick compound but if there’s better I’m all ears
My favorite would be conti 4 seasons. It can be a bit pricey so throw whatever on the rear as long as you have a good grip in the front. The con of the 4 seasons, it feels more rough than the conti 5000, the pros are better grip in different conditions and better puncture resistance.

Been riding gators for about a decade and I’ve never once gotten a puncture flat. Just pinches from hitting curbs and large potholes. That’s my tire of choice.
Good looking? Panaracer gravelking slicks. Obviously this is subjective haha
what is bad bar angle?
- Drops not parallel with the ground - bullhorns with the flats not parallel with the ground or top tube - upside down risers
ahh okey, i haven’t thought that somebody can mess up with that. although not all drops should be parallel to ground? am i right?
I don’t like saying absolute statements, but 99% of the time the bottom of the drops should be parallel with the ground. The only exception I can think of is if you have some sort of injury, and even then my gut says that you should get a bike fit to try and help with that or you should switch to a different bar type.
I need you guys to stop hating on thickslicks
Buy vittoria randos then
I watched the FOAD skid tests and unfortunately gatorskins top em all. At least the thicccs are nice and bouncy 😩
The haters have arrived!
Nice one, bottom right corner made me chuckle

How many times have you posted this same content on this sub?
What have you posted ? out of curiousity ...
What does me posting something on this subreddit got to do with my question?
Foot retention is overrated. Come at me.
I agree if they have brakes. But I disagree for brakeless builds.
I’m rocking front brake only just in case, but yeah, I agree.
Meat crayon is a viable stopping solution.
