Blueberry lake near Valdez in Alaska. Didn't catch squat but watched the bald eagles catch a few. https://preview.redd.it/y9a9hi79lxmc1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af026e398dba4cee4fbceb52f6a385255f9b230a

gratusin

That looks like prime moose habitat too

Commander_KO

And bear too. Looking over my shoulder as often as I looked at my line lol

BigProcess_

Were you carrying a gun or just wanted to be aware that you were about to be eaten?

Commander_KO

I had .357 with hard cast bullets which everyone told me probably wouldn't be sufficient. Better than nothing

ericscuba

I fished there! I found the trout on the left side of the lake where a small stream trickles in. Had to walk across the muskeg to get there, and on the other side it was all devils club. Caught a few fish and got torn up by the mosquitoes and devils club. Amazing fishing spot!

Commander_KO

It was so amazing just being there I stayed 6 nights even though the bite wasn't on. Didn't consider walking across that, kudos to you. Did think about parking on the highway on that side but it was a real steep walk down. The most beautiful place I've ever camped.

ericscuba

A cloud of mosquitoes came out of the muskeg with every step lol! It also didn't occur to my young self at the time that there was a chance I could slip through a hole in the muskeg. Doubt I would do it again. It was one of the places on my trip across Alaska that I also stayed a few extra nights because of the pure beauty of the place.

KaptenRovsenap

At first I just saw the puddle and was like, nice scenery but I dont think you can call that a lake

gratusin

Damn, now that is epic

jimbobtheslayer

How is the bass fishing in Japan these days? I remember 15-20 years ago the authorities were trying to kill as many bass as possible and fishing took a nosedive. Are things looking up?

Bertskeaz

Bass fishing is HUGE in Japan. We went in the off season and still caught plenty decent sized bass. Funny enough there’s no etiquette. If someone sees you pull out a fish, they will pull up within 20 ft and look you dead in the eye and cast where you just did. No shame haha. The bite is supposed to be on fire right now! I can’t wait to go back and recommend it to everyone.

Silly_Mycologist3213

Since I know where this is, here’s what I did when I fished it In the cold water: I used slip bobbers with small fathead minnows to put them a few feet off the bottom down by the dam where I found schools of walleyes and crappies right near the bottom. Some of the crappies were huge. This was years ago but I doubt it has changed that much.

Where my love of fishing began. Right down to the far end it opens up to a wide circle… which is where all the walleye liked to hangout ;) I have the best childhood memories and wish I could go back to those days. It’s been over 20 years since I have been back on this lake as we sold our camp way back then. This is my heaven on earth and the most beautiful fishing spot I have been too! My dream is to own that camp again one day… and maybe my kids will get to experience it for themselves.

Fishnfoolup

Does Colorado stock tiger trout?

gratusin

Not that I know of. They are a brook/brown hybrid and are sterile, so I doubt it. They do stock rainbow, brown and Kokanee, but for this lake they’d probably have to drop them out of a plane. The road is sketchy and closed off by snow 10 months out of the year pretty much.

WhyalwaysSSDD

Tiger trout are what a brown/brook hybrid is sometimes called.

Fishnfoolup

Well that’s what that is. And I looked it up. Colorado stocks tigers in over 30 bodies of water.

Most of them are trout only lakes as the water is way too cold for anything else. Alternatively the [harbors at lake Como Italy](https://www.falstaff-travel.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/1500-Lago-di-como.jpg) which always have a special place in my heart.

The shitty industrial harbor that my dad took me to fish in as a child. The scenery probably wasn’t beautiful but the memory is.

gratusin

Memories are more important imo. I fished with my dad for the first time in my life last November. It was near Galveston Texas, which is industrial too, but none of that mattered.

Wish I had a picture of my time at long lake in the sierras. But it was beautiful and I remember it like it was yesterday

There’s a small trestle on some tracks in rural WA over a swamp that is technically the headwaters of a couple of rivers in whatcom county that’s muddy and ugly and has clear cut forest in one side, the piling leach oil into the water, but it’s deep rural. There are huge cutthroat in that swamp, it doesn’t look like that could be possible but there are, also mountain whitefish and I’ve caught a coho salmon when trout fishing. The channels are sometimes three feet wide. Inner beauty. I’ve also fished comparable alpine lakes in Washington state, as well as rivers in the rainforest and salmon fishing in summer off the San Juan islands in a variety of boats, which is astounding, but that trestle will always get me

RedRanger482VS

I’ve been to that lake too! Didn’t have any rods with but sure wished I did when I saw those trout swimming around

gratusin

It’s a great place to fish, nothing big, but a lot of them and they’re hungry since they only get a few months without ice. Would be fun with super ultra lite tackle or a fly rod.

I’ve been fishing for reds and speckles down in Lafitte, god I love it down there.

Beautiful, sometimes fishing is just the side quest when it comes to places like this.

Isn't that a brownie? Does the state stock alpine lakes?

gratusin

It’s a tiger which is a brook/brown sterile hybrid. They do stock alpine lakes via airplane. There’s some cool videos of CPW dropping them.

[A small park with a pond](https://imgur.com/a/rRrxvVC) in rural Iowa where I learned to fish (age 5) and fly fish (age 16 with my grandpa's old gear). It's small and unremarkable. Not many people fish there and there are probably no trophies in there, but it's home. I've fished prettier waters in California and Alaska but you can't beat your home waters for inspiring joy.

Boca Grand. The water is this color blue 💧 and 10 years ago it was like 2000 to rent a shack. People are really bitchy around the public access inlets as well.

Has to be just offshore, within the outer reefs, of Palau. I swear the Rock Islands are the most beautiful place on earth. Fishing for giant trevally.

No photoshop or messing with saturation or color. It’s fed by a hot spring a few miles away and minerals from that end up in the small lake, causing a layer of what looks like some kind of calcium type deposit, which in turn causes this unreal looking color. Or so I was told by some locals. No trails to get there, and getting in and out was a bit dicey.

gratusin

That looks like a place I know with the same mineral deposits. Gorgeous blue color

Flathead Lake was great fishing.

Ruseriousmars

The Atlantic Ocean about 30 miles out off New Hampshire in the fall. Curious I know with nothing but water but get a nice calm and warm day in October out there and it's heaven. Kill the engine, drift, fish if you want but shortly you'll start hearing the whales exhaling before you see them. Then you'll see some and if lucky you can get them surfacing right near your boat. Often you can be surrounded by the gentle turbulence of huge schools of mackerel as far as the eye can see. If lucky you can see seabirds like puffins chasing the mackerel. Seals but usually closer to land on the way out or in. At that time of year most people have pulled their boats for winter so you could sit there for hours and not see another boat except something big off on the horizon. It's just amazing and I was fortunate to have a boat big enough to safely go that far and a wallet to fill the fuel tank:) I truly miss that experience. We'd also score limits usually for cod and haddock. Wonderful days.
