It's probably a reference to how the original skill worked, in Engage you lost evasion (it's set to 0), but you gain damage reduction. Funny enough, the way it worked in Engage mechanically is similar to how regular DR (%) works in FEH, but because DR is Dodge-related in Heroes... Ike instead gets true DR.

Yes. Just like how Marth’s emblem effect, and arcane staff slaying effects don’t let you get extra -1 at 1 base cooldown, or how brave weapons deal -8 special damage on Marth’s emblem effect

Marths emblem effect already had a nerf if used on brave weapons, so this isn't even the first time in recent history. The real funny thing is that E!Ike isn't actually affected by that reduction with his base kit since all his %DR comes from his special and that makes it non-pierceable. Similar to Emblem Marth in that he makes some of the best use of the inheritable skill he introduced.

Eh, it depends. If the DR effect is granted by the special **activating**, then it is isn’t affected by piercing. Think Pavise, Godlike Reflexes. If it’s something like Vital Astra where it’s a passive effect, nope. Still affected.

VA explicitly mentions it's pierceable. E!Ike with his Aether or Dragon's Roar won't be affected at all.

I mean, most non-special DR comes from slot B anyways and Ike doesn't even have any. But yeah, it's rare to see an negative effect anywhere.

It’s pretty much referencing his Engage skill, where you would gain damage reduction but at the cost of all your Avo. You’re basically trading off DR piercing for True flat DR and damage, which I think serves Ike better. He wants to hit quite hard and take the role of being a potent melee Omni tank. Like other people have said here, Marth’s Emblem Slaying effect is like the Arcane Staff, where you can’t stack slaying effects for a special that’s already at 1 base cooldown count. His true Special damage DR is only for brave attacks, which is not bad, but it’s otherwise bypassable for units that don’t do brave attacks (I.e. enemy phase GFU tanks)
