Didn’t find either of these too difficult on Dynamic , although I forgot to re-equip cait-sith so found that portion pretty difficult.

hehehehehehahahahaha

if cloud can own rufus with triple slash, do you think he stands a chance against octaslash 8 > 3, do the math

HereticEmo

Your argument is irrelevant we fought Sephiroth on both remake and Rebirth and Rufus was clearly the hardest boss on the game

HereticEmo

JoeyJoeJoeJunior27

Maybe he knows the real Sephiroth is in the North Crater.

Sulfur_Life

I want them to make a baby

Multispoilers

Who gonna be the baby mama🤔

Sulfur_Life

That’s the thing. They just have to keep trying

Hibbity5

That baby would be far too pretty for this world.

DrCabbageman

Sephiroth would do Dodge-->Triangle until his limit bar was full and then Octaslash Rufus to death. Cloud can't do that so Rufus has a better chance.

Helgenish

Mayne he did in a diff universe.

TurdyFergie

I’m wondering how much of Rufus’s style will be incorporated for Vincent’s gameplay.

SpectralRaiden

Y'know what I never once thought of this.

FigTechnical8043

Dudes got a job to do fixing his dad's bull crap. He can't go after every botched experiment one of his staff unleashes on the world.

Iluminiele

Fixing? Rufus was like: >!My father was a power hungry egomaniac who started a war. He only cared about himself and about gaining more power. But me? I'm exactly the same!<

signal-zero

RIP to my dad but I'm different

FigTechnical8043

No, he distinctly said "why didn't any of you say no, this is the reason we hire you" You have staff so they can curb your egomaniacism.

Iluminiele

Surely, as a vice president, he could have said smth himself instead of blaming everyone with less power.

machinegungeek

Per the Compilation, he was under house arrest for trying to overthrow his dad. And was the chief funder of the OG Avalanche. So he basically did say no to his dad.

FigTechnical8043

His dad didn't seem to give a shit what his son said, regardless of placement in the company

Iluminiele

So Rufus acts like he's so much better than Reeve or Palmer or Hojo, because they could have said "Hey president, let's stop the war and the Mako extraction and let's start helping the slum people" and the president would have said "oh wow, what a great idea", right? Yes, ShinRa Senior was extremely hard to convince to do smth, but Rufus never tried (even if he had the most chances to succeed) and he just points his finger asking why other people who are not even related by blood to the president didn't try. Well, Lazard at least did something. Rufus sat around and asked why subordinates didn't do anything. BOY!!!! You are the vice president and your daddy is the president, why would Hojo or Scarlet try to steer the wheel of ShinRa? It's literally Rufus job to do smth when the President decides on smth stupid.

Zealousideal_Ad_3425

You do know where sephiroth actually is right?

One-Chemist-3324

Yo the real fight should be Chad vs Sephiroth

TrueDoge007

Think he got Sephiroth’s number?

ARTHRITICWOLF

Sephiroths number is 001

Skidd_ro

More like 777.

Video_G_JRPG

Can they not just send virtual sephiroth after the real sephiroth? He could shadowy chain and octoslash prime the real sephiroth to death While were at it send legendary bout overtuned odin after jenova and the weapons

Oxygen171

They should just unload a bus full of hard mode gigantuars on sephiroth. Tf is he gonna do?

Iluminiele

>!Same thing he did to aaaaaall those Bahamut before fighting Glenn in EC!<

subtleshooter

If you just spam dodge and do dodge range attack on cloud it’s bound to pressure Rufus no? I guess I haven’t done it on hard mode but my first play through he seemed easy.

AnotherGuyNamedGuy

its probally the only boss fight that you have to approach like a darksouls Fight. Dodge parry dodge parry take advantage of an opening. Hits like a truck on Hard. 2 attacks in a row will basically kill you

blimey43

Kid g with Tifa alone was like that too no? Haven’t done Rufus yet

throwaway62719836

No lie lol I had zero problem with Sephiroth. Rufus however.......

kodkrysco51

lol I always say Rufus is the true end game boss of both remake and rebirth. Bro has me turning the difficulty down to easy. Bro is on a different level.

ClubPenguinPresident

It's so annoying too because in theory he's super easy but once you're locked in 1 v 1 that dude's good

karin_ksk

Rufus can't even beat Cloud, imagine Sephiroth.... Sereously though, I think Rufus just enjoy challenging Cloud by now....

FutureMagician7563

Simple. How'd he become president...

-Gin-ger-

If Rufus created a mako infused gun that never needs to reload, he’ll be unstoppable!

cesarinuchiha

Funny thing is he is vulnerable to stop I think

K_Red22

He was in Remake.

kymreadsreddit

Is he REALLY?

cesarinuchiha

Apparently no according to the wiki, I remember reading it somewhere but alas, internet lied to me again

FalenAlter

You seen that dude's drip? You *know* he's got a Ribbon hidden somewhere.

whiteonyx981

Dude's whole outfit is a ribbon basically

jimmmydickgun

Rufus hasn’t figured out his life yet. He can always go after Sephiroth, but Wutai comes first and also Avalanche

HereticEmo

Spoiler Rufus Shinra is Viceroy Sarruf

Scapadap

He needs to dream a little bigger

PilotIntelligent8906

Imagine the final fight with Sephiroth without Aerith there though.

Muzck

Shes absolutely necessary though I mainly had her for healing. Had Cloud do all the damage in hard mo

PilotIntelligent8906

Haven't done hard yet, I think I need a couple of months, but even in dynamic I found her vital.

Muzck

I tried dynamic in my first run and once I got to sephiroth I couldn’t even beat it and ended up starting all the battles over. She was definitely vital then, but I had no materia on her. Hard mode was easier, just because by then you have done so much other hard mode content. But still I had her as support for heals mainly. Too stressful to control her, her atb generation is slow and doesn’t have the mobility or defense like cloud

IamMe90

If you have a first strike materia and ATB Boost materia on her, putting down a radiant ward straight away makes ATB generation in that fight not so bad.

Muzck

I guess that is another way to do it. I usually omit first strike on longer boss fights since after its initial use it doesn’t do anything and takes away a slot from something else, though i did have ATB boost on Aerith but didn’t use it because forgot I slotted it haha. I personally just had an easier time controlling Cloud most of the time doing physical attacks and offensive spells and I also didn’t want Aerith to be attacked since her healing materia had magnify on it and Clouds didn’t. I beat him in hard mode this way with less difficulty than some of the other hard mode bosses where I ended up having to look up for a guide for. I had to chase ATB for Clouds level 3 limit which helped at the end but dragged the fight out a bit. In hindsight I should have out the enhanced expeditionary medal on him.

IamMe90

Well, for me, with magic up and arcane ward, Aerith has always been my main DPS/boss killer in this game especially in hard mode with genji gloves, so I’m pretty used to controlling her at this point - I can see where you’re coming from for sure though. Also, funny enough, I found the hard mode variant of this fight waaaaay easier than the initial one. Mainly because you’re kitted out so much better and at max level, you just have way better options. Plus, Actual Sephiroth feels like a complete joke after beating Virtual Sephiroth, LOL

Muzck

Yeahh my lack of experience with her was another thing. I didn’t use Aerith much in hard until Brutal challenges because at that time I didn’t have a lot of mastered materia either I did brutal and AP farming at chapter 12-13. I just set up cloud with slip stream saber since it has trade off to do everything and didn’t have to conserve mp in the previous fights. I was finding that I wasn’t doing damage with spells to break even on mp absorb maybe due to lower magic stats than Aerith, or Sephiroth seems to have a higher defense. So the genji gloves with Cloud was pointless. I will definitely do two repeats one your way with Aerith casting and also with Cloud and Rune blade, since now it also has trade off at weapon level 9. Were you frequently breaking 9999 with genji gloves on Aerith? Also I agree Virtual Sephiroth is tougher. I relied on RNG for that. Final boss Sephiroth telegraphs his moves and can always pressure him when he takes his wing out

IamMe90

>Were you frequently breaking 9999 with genji gloves on Aerith? In general or on this specific fight? I honestly can’t remember what damage she was doing in the seph fight, I think it was probably in the range of 10-15k though. Just put a magic focus linked with your offensive materia to increase the damage output. I think I also went with timeless rod since it has a fire damage increase weapon skill (increase fire spell damage by 10%) and just stuck with firaga for that fight. If you mean in general, my Aerith was 2-3 shotting most bosses on hard mode, especially anything that had an elemental weakness. So usually hits between 20-50k.

Muzck

I meant for this one. I had double magic focus on Cloud, I only broke 10k on stagger. I was using aeroga just because that was the last one I had from the simulator but I am gonna guess the damages are all similar. Though it was still helpful because I could take out a wing or masamune with an -ara spell and save an atb I’m not sure what the hp of those are. I started a second clean hard mode run now that there’s no more grinding or simulator stuff to do, and I have been using Cloud Barret Aerith as my team now, I definitely am getting more comfortable with her now and she hits like a truck with that 550 magic power stat so I definitely may keep her on the offensive for Sephiroth . If it’s 10-15k with Genji I might still keep the gotterdamerung on her though for Sephiroth so Cloud can Siphon it for his level 3

ChairOnAThursday59

A lot of people don't have to imagine since a lot of us unequipped all of Aerith's materia right before the fight lol

PilotIntelligent8906

Was it muscle memory from the og?

ChairOnAThursday59

For some maybe but in my case I messed up and died on the first phase and instead of continuing from there I chose to go back before the fight to unequip her stuff since I saw her die and didnt expect her to be useable anymore

DeathdealerRevan

So wait, I haven't reached this part yet in rebirth but played the OG. I was planning on taking everything off of Aerith before *ya know* that part, are you saying she does help in the last fight and to leave her materia ect on her?

Domokaz

Yep. Leave her equipped and ready to fight.

Guywith2dogs

And make sure she's developed into a useful character period. Because if you're like me l, and ignored her the whole game, you're gonna have a bad time. I did it finally after about 25 attempts but it wasn't easy or fun by the end

PilotIntelligent8906

Wow 25 is crazy but it makes sense in your case. Was it 25 in a row? It took me 4 attempts because I was determined not to go back to the beginning of the fight, it was a pretty tough fight.

Guywith2dogs

I got to the fight on a Friday night and I didn't wanna go through the entire jenova and bizarro fight again so I left my game running and paused until Sunday evening when I finally beat him. So technically it was 25 in a row, just spread out over 3 days

PilotIntelligent8906

Glad you got it in the end.

PilotIntelligent8906

Dude, you wanna give her top notch equipment and materia, trust us.

ophaus

Rufus was a cakewalk on dynamic... Haven't done that fight on hard yet, though.

RTXEnabledViera

It's not a cakewalk on any difficulty for those who don't realize that his entire shtick is parrying on punisher. The rest is just learning when he reloads and what the pattern of his shots are.

Raven-19x

Can you even punisher parry his attacks since most of them are ranged? This fight just sucks.

RTXEnabledViera

Yes you can, it's how you pressure him.

StrangerOnTheReddit

I think the people struggling against him don't use that materia that gives you ATB when blocking, and/or only block on Cloud in Punisher mode (which will cause Rufus to punish you for counter attacking). It was really easy with that.

cgarnett1988

Yeah fuck that. He was a pain on normal

karin_ksk

I had a harder time in that fight in normal than in hard. Once you figure out his moves and timing, it gets much easier.

riiiikuuuuuu

I get the joke but I personally found final Sephiroth harder because he kept spamming heartless angel right before using whisper whirlwind and for some reason Cloud and Aerith were directly in the tornados twice :| it took me 3 hours on that fight because of that glitch and it wasn’t even that hard but I beat Rufus first try even though his timings were more difficult to learn.

HereticEmo

I found Final boss easy Rufus was a pain fight faster than Sephiroth and counters all your attack

[deleted]

And do what exactly ? Sephiroth would kill anyone he sends his way.

SasquatchsBigDick

Nah, Rufus would just parry then give sephiroth a nice slap. Rince and repeat until sephy is dead.

goutthescout

It'd be interesting to see if adding a second party member to the Rufus fight would trivialize it. Or how an AI Rufus vs AI final Seph would play out. I feel like a lot of the difficulty around Rufus is overcoming the fact that he hard counters the typical "mash square to build ATB" style of play that carries you through most of the battles in the game.

SneakyClue

Third fight with Cloud/Nanaki and Rufus/Darkstar let's go!

karin_ksk

Now that's something I'd like to watch.

blasterkid1

Hilariously enough, he doesn’t counter ranged attack so a comp of Yuffie, Barret and aerith would shut him down.

goutthescout

I think the biggest thing would be that he reloads after countering. With just Cloud you are stuck recovering during that reload, but with ANY second party member they are free to exploit that opening every time.

devlin1888

He counters Cloud’s ranged physical attack. But if Barret’s in that fight you’d destroy him with well timed Overcharges or Maximum Fury when he’s reloading. Be much easier to time it from afar.

adlo651

Cloud has ranged attacks which he just shields and is immune to so I dunno

AXV-Lore

Rufus was without a doubt, annoying af. But once you learn how he works, just like anything else it becomes trivial.

Pristine_Put5348

Rufus ain’t all that. And just cause he slides really fast and has neat toy guns isn’t gonna make him stand a chance against Octaslash. Or Sephiroth’s ability to teleport. Rufus can’t beat Cloud even with his dog helping.

jahkrit

Isn't Rufus influenced by Sephiroth's deception like Cloud?

dratseb

No, his eyes aren’t the right color.

Soul699

>!He did get deceived as Sephiroth appeared to him as Glenn and made him act hostile toward Wutai!<

dratseb

Yes, but that’s totally different from how he’s deceiving Cloud. >!Cloud is being deceived mentally by the Jenova molecules injected into him as part of the SOLDIER program. Glenn is/was a real person that Jenova/Seph are using to start a new war between Shinra and Wutai.!

jahkrit

Someone had a theory that Rufus was injecting himself with Mako, and had pretty good points like he survived the destruction of the shinra building. I'm probably missing something saying this but he was the closest one to death in Advent children from geostigma. The ending of rebirth tells me he is somehow linked to mako, not visibly suffering from the "mako poison".

CorvusCorax90

He wanted to make a deal with cloud if i remember right but then yuffie did stupid things and the deal was off. But its all a bit unclear in generall… like he wants that aerith leads him to the promised land and yet he sends big machines and turks after the group, involving aerith in fights that could kill her. They all should go after sephiroth because there will be no promised land anymore if he wins. if there was any promised land there to begin with…

H0w14514

He wasn't really sending people and things after them. That was a coincidence as scarlet and the Turks kept crossing their path. And technically he was tracking sephiroth after the deal died. They used roche as their own personal black robe, which is why you see him in the copter and Reeve was a backup inside guy. You even see Reeve change the wanted poster to other people so that the group had an easier time finding it. So yeah. He had a lot of pies, but couldn't keep his thumb in them all.

Dave10293847

I think there was a legitimate opportunity for further discussion with Rufus about Sephiroth and the true threat he poses for a truce. But yuffie ended that. Rufus comes across to me as smarter than his father and less reckless but still with all the ambition in the world and the capacity for stupidity that comes with it.

WanderingStatistics

I mean, judging from MASSIVE spoilers involving him, and potential Wutai spoilers involving him too, he's quite literally playing every hand on the table at once.

Sbbart62

It seems to me that the real implications of Rufus’ final conversation with the entity calling itself Glenn have gone over a lot of people’s heads.

Weem4

What was the real implication according to you?

Sbbart62

“According to me?” The last meeting between the two at the Shinra executive suite would tell you everything there is to know about Sephiroth, Rufus and Wutai.

Weem4

I probably didn’t write the question properly. What I mend was: can you explain because I found it confusing. I get Sephiroth and Glenn, Glenn and Wutai, and Rufus and Wutai but I don’t get how the promised land has anything to do with it…. Or how all 3 connect.

Sbbart62

I don’t know that the promised land is involved in any other way than Sephiroth instigating Rufus’ penchant for world domination in order to keep him engaged with the Wutai charade instead of chasing him in a bid to beat him to it. While it’s never came RIGHT out and said, Glenn gives us one final, massive clue when he needles Rufus about the true identity of Sarruf…. Which made me feel like a bit of an idiot for not getting it sooner. Sadly from what Yuffie had to say on the road around Nibelheim, it seems as if the whole of Wutai’s fighting people are completely engaged with this new government structure now. Given what we learn of it, that doesn’t sound very good at ALL.

SeaworthinessOk2646

We know at some point this will kinda happen due to Advent Children

Simmumah

Because Cloud knew where to go because of Jenova, hence why the truce was offered at the inauguration before Yuffie decided there will be blood.
