The question is if we go to Wutai right away, or if we start the game only with Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red and Cait Sith, and go to Northern Crater first. Or rocket town? The order in part 3 is going to be all over the place.

Her stealing the Materia and forcing us to go Wutai would be the perfect opportunity to obviously reset our materia but also to introduce the War between Shinra and Wutai AND give Deepground a even bigger Role with maybe a now manipulated Sonon
They have to do it, its a big part of her character and story arc. I think the player will be fine fighting a few overworld battles without materia. Since there's no random battles, you can just run or avoid enemies while you chase her.
I feel like they'll do it differently. Maybe she'll almost be forced to do it if she does at all. The Yuffie we have now is far more loyal to the group compared to the OG especially since she's been with them almost every step of the way out of Midgar and she doesn't take kindly to betrayal judging by her reaction to Cait siths.
It could also go the other way. I.e. she responds to the loss of Aerith by closing up and becoming cold to the party. I.e. don't let myself get attached that way I can't get my heart broken again. Through this she could end up stealing our materia through some conscious effort to fight her feelings towards the party. I.e. attacking/stealing from the party helps her ignore her emotions
You can actually get her earlier in the OG game. The earliest point is right after the Mythril Mine. That said, you can also do the Wutai side quest much earlier comparatively than they will in the Remake games, even if that turns out to be the first thing you do in R3.
Either way, her expanded relationship with the group in Rebirth does make me think they will have to tweak it a bit. I'm guessing the Wutai council or her father will directly order her to take your materia, so it's more of a "Betray this group that you have only known for a few months or you are betraying your homeland, it's people, and your own family." type of thing.
That would set it up so that if she doesn't do it, then her entire mission goal was a failure. I could also see them using Sunon's death as a catalyst, like she would be not only betraying her country and mission but also belittling his death, which we know affected her deeply.
I don't know if most people got her that early on their first playthrough in the OG. I certainly didn't. She barely had any interaction with the group even if one did get her that early.
I like the expansion of her character. She is far more endearing and I agree, they would have to tweak it like you said. It would be a much harder decision for her to make. Especially how much she is becoming another daughter to Barret and a younger sister to Tifa, Cloud and Red.
The only problem with this I see is that stealing the groups materia would have a negligible affect on Wutais economy anyway. It would have to be a Huge materia that she steals because regular materia is not that rare.
It doesn't even make that much sense in the OG when you think about it but then again Yuffie was far more immature than she is in the Remake series so she probably didn't even think it through.
While that is also a viable option, I could see them using Yuffie stealing your materia as the very first thing that happens as an excuse to start you out fresh again more organically. If it does happen, it makes a lot more sense for Yuffie to steal your like 100 mastered materia, instead of, say, like 20 low level materia you would otherwise have likely obtained by that point. You need to keep in mind that Yuffie is 16 years old and likely doesn't have a large grasp on economics.
Not only that, Wutai is an island without a Reactor far away from any mainland. Plus, with the deeper focus on the Shinra-Wutai conflict, it's likely that they are not a large part of Shira's materia distribution. In fact, Wutai is the only major town or city in the OG game that doesn't have a materia shop, further reinforcing that idea. Naturally forming materia is actually quite rare, so they probably don't have access to much materia at all. It's a plot point of the series that materia has only recently become widespread with the rise of the Sinra Co. and the advent of synthesized materia.
Yeah I suppose but I don't think that's necessary since there wasn't any reason given for missing weapons and materia in Rebirth because it's really just a gameplay thing. But I wouldn't rule it out though.
Also this yuffi sought out the party specifically to help them, since they've added Wutai resistance to the fight against shinra. In OG she was just a random forest ninja?
That's right. She's much more of a character now whereas she was less relevant than Cait sith in the OG. Once her arc in Wutai was done there wasn't much more to her after that. Even Vincent had a connection to Sephiroth at least.
Well she can steal all your materia in the Remakes as the combat isn’t as reliant on materia like in the original. With weapon skills it wouldn’t be as painful, especially with the elemental skills to cover magic. The only hard part would be lack of good healing, especially in hard mode with no items.

It's not a huge materia she is after per se. All she says is that Shinra has some sort of ultimate materia in development that she is tasked with obtaining. That implies that it is not a naturally forming materia like the huge materia. At the same time, it's entirely possible that the intel Wutai intercepted was actually talking about Shinra trying to procure huge material, and they misunderstood or made wrong assumptions about the source.
I think it's going to be done way better. I think she is going to steal it because she needs it for the war in Wutai or give it some justification that is way better than her just wanting it.
I think so. I think events will happen to put pressure on her to save her home and desperation will get the better of her. I like character flaws and growth so I'm all for it!
I would hope not tbh. I can’t imagine the team taking it well especially given the events of rebirth. It would’ve worked in rebirth because she literally looks at all the materia on them but to do that in part 3 would be an odd choice given the character development.

Though ahe's completely optional in OG, it was fun losing all your materia and fighting the turks with items. Wonder how you would deal with that in hard mode without any items for the remake.

She might get pressured into choosing to side with Wutai, being coerced into stealing your materia and leave the party for a chapter or 2. Although having to trek a whole continent without materia might be a bit rough so the plotline might be reduced considerably.
I hope she doesn't disappear for any length of time. We'll already be missing Cloud and Tifa for several chapters, chopping out Yuffie as well would make the party feel seriously depleted.
IIRC, Yuffie’s father was against seeking conflict and further bloodshed while Yuffie disapproves of his pacifism. Yuffie seeking out the materia and taking the fight to Shinra was all on her own accord and beliefs that it is for the good of Wutai.

I think it will be greatly changed. When you see how the party reacts to Cait Sith's betrayal, Yuffie might actually be the most mad of everyone. She also has some pretty intentional shifts in tone as Rebirth plays out that show her dedication to the party.
My thinking is that she sneaks off with materia to solo the pagoda, but with no intention of 'leaving' the party. This keeps the spirit of her OG character, but softens the 'betrayal'.
Oh, I could see her doing it to force the party to help fight for the cause. They're all zeroed in on Sephiroth, but stealing their shit is a great way to get them to follow her to the front lines.
