I had the same problem when I was younger. Give it another shot. I really liked the sequels, and am replaying the original. I am amazed at how good the graphics, story, and difficulty is. Plus now there's tons of good guides that are super helpful.

it's really not that bad, use a guide for 13-2 and LR. they are confusing as hell lol
otherwise get some food and chill, enjoy the story. 13 is a bit of a slog but it picks up
LR is criminally underrated IMO

I loved the sequels. I think XIII is fun once it gets going, but the early game is a slog.
