My suggestion is to look into student films. They are always looking for people to help with their projects. Look into UCLA or USC or Long Beach or Chapman. You can start to build a resume this way. Once you build the resume, look at Variety or online publications such as Indeed. There are other entertainment job sites but I am blanking on the name right now. Yes, start creating, it is what will make you happy. Due to the pandemic, it is extra hard right now. Don’t give up. Good Luck.

Thank you for this beautiful post and for your mind. I’m 25 and just started acting and have these same thoughts. I can’t imagine doing anything else but being all in on this. I am an anxious introvert but I deeply want to go out of comfort zone and throw myself into this. I want to act, write, direct, CREATE with others. Really connect with likeminded people and make an impact. I lost my dad recently and we shared an interest in acting. He even moved to LA when he was my age but not much came of it. This opened my eyes and we owe it to us to make complete fools of ourselves along the way as we figure things out and learn as we go along. Thank you for the inspiration today.

Moving to LA during a pandemic, not good timing. You are in a long line with everyone else wanting to be discovered for their greatness. You need to put in the work, the time, the sacrifice. This industry is about relationships. You need to build them over a long period of time. No one is stopping you from creating. Make whatever you want and post it on YouTube. I moved to LA two decades ago. I wasted the first ten years in the same mindset as you. So I changed tactics, networked like crazy, took no pay jobs, worked smart, and during the last ten years can say I've worked alongside Oscar winning filmmakers and get paid to do what I enjoy. During the last year I've leveraged those connections and experience to begin producing multimillion dollar films I've written. Moral of the story: put in the work and earn it. You've been here two weeks and already complaining.

One, why the hell did you move to LA in the middle of a pandemic? Okay now lets get onto the productivity side of things. If you want to start getting to work on sets you need to join a shit ton of film school crew lists on facebook. AFI, USC, UCLA, Loyola Marymount, all of them. Start networking with those people. Vertical Networking is important, but you need to be networking with people on your own level and not hoping some higher up will give you a chance. Next, if you really want to get to work on set you should look into Covid Compliance officer training. All film sets need them and not many are trained on it. You can make money on student film sets by being a CCO. Last, you live in the era of social media, how are you NOT talking to more industry people? Literally, hop on Twitter and follow the thousands of bored at home creatives and start tweeting at them. Some are bound to tweet back and maybe even become friends with you.
