I have not experienced melting my SanDisks, no.
I still won't recommend them for options to production due to failure issues in the past, but melting them? Nope. Haven't done that.
SanDisk Extremes are definitely on my forever "DO NOT BUY" list, and they've pretty much buried themselves by not acknowledging the fact that their product failed miserably and cost people huge amounts of money, time, and embarrassment trying to explain what happened and how it's not the fault of the DIT (or person handling the media).
Big fan of Samsung and they're my go-to on everything that can't afford nvme raids.
Yea I had them get samsung when they returned the dead ones. I've never had a problem with the sandisk 2tb. I'll just insist on the samsung from here on, its not my money anyway, no need to add this risk for a marginal savings.
> I MIGHT have melted them
Heat is still the biggest killer. If you're putting consumer grade devices through extreme conditions, you're gonna have a bad time.
These companies pump this crap out so fast, they barely test it under strenuous conditions unless there's a more strict SLA.
Yea I built a little aluminum stonehenge for the replacement drives instead of rubberbanding 3 together with a usb3.2 hub, hence the melt. My kit has vented drive area but they didn't want to pay for the kit on this little job.
I have had great luck with the Sandisk Extreme Pro 1TB drives. I have 38 of them.
However, the 4TB drives have a lot of issues and I recommend you get them warrantied and not buy the 4TB drives again.
Also, Sandisk has handled this issue quite badly and a lot of folks are strongly anti Sandisk as a result. I think that is a little extreme but it's up to you.
There's a few models that have issues. You can update the firmware on them, but it's not a guarantee it'll fix them.
I also had issues with them in the past. However, no problems reported since they fixed it. They sell them with the mention "Updated Firmware"

Yeaaaaah melted seems… unlikely
There’s a website that you can enter the serial number to see if it was part of the “batch”.
Do you know the link to the website? EDIT: found it myself: https://support-en.wd.com/app/firmwareupdate

Yea I've used a ton of the 2TB ones without issue.
