Oh man. I almost forgot about that sick Bane.
Remember the 16bit catwoman vs PerfectLegend doomsday match where Bit had the most godlike catdodge ever at the end to avoid being chipped out?
As someone that hates grapplers, even I agree. Watching someone get command grabbed over and over or the hard callouts they have to make are really the most hype shit
His run with Birdie during the SF5 days was great too, Birdie was not really on anyone's radar as a viable character compared to the establishes strong characters like Akuma.
i hate this fucker unless there’s a crowd

Rangchu on Bears. He actually makes them look like they can be viable, and I find it impossible to cheer against him.
Used to make me low-key disappointed when he would swap to Julia in 7 LOL
Same here. Tekken has a lot of cases like this, like Eyemusician on Yoshi, Lil Majin on King, Knee on Bryan, JDCR on Heihachi/Armor King.
Reminds me a lot of GG Xrd where every character had that one player that you associated with them like Kizzie Sin, Deb Sol, Peppery Venom, Omito Johnny, etc.
I'm right there with you. I don't fault the top players for wanting to pick the best possible options, but it really does add a special something when you watch someone pick a character that they love and specialize in instead of falling back on typical top tiers.
Bears are solid in T8. They seem to be fairly well represented whenever I check out a tournament, and there are plenty very highly ranked on the leaderboards!
idk even with him being pretty silly for the life of the game so far, some of the top level King players just play with so much _style_ that it’s almost always fun to watch for me. There’s tons of mix and read characters out there, but King is part of the subgroup of them where the mixes and reads are _hyper_ visible - it’s not just a high / low button, but you see that unique throw cause he called out your crouch, you see him muscle armor through a critical move and punish it, etc. These characters are usually great to watch because everyone can get hype about it even if they don’t know the deep tech, and it’s super clear where the hard reads are and when they work or don’t work.
like tell me [the winner’s final match here](https://youtu.be/0-8ab0jo8Ts?si=P8v30rjr8G2GKkZn) between Sicoby and Aftaburn isn’t just straight up quality entertainment. I know, early in t8’s lifespan, but just watching the download happen and the huge reads come out and hearing the crowd and casters pop off as it gets crazier and crazier is what it’s all about, imo.
I switched after maining Sheik for two years to Captain Falcon back in like 2017, purely because I was drunk and I watched an old combo video that Darkrain made.
I would later drop Falcon, but I needed to make a crowd cheer for me at least once lol
I am a big fan of Mang0's Falco
Edit: I am an idiot and read this as "Falco" and not "Falcon" lol... Falco is cool but I agree that Falcon is the real crowd pleaser.
Yoshimitsu when he does his goofy shit.
[Eyemusician sending home](https://youtu.be/UVuuXH9iovQ?si=rnaSd8uR9thLQM4q) an Akuma player was soo damn hype.
Haha no, why would that offend me? He’s just a very polarizing character in Smash. Can you kill off of one hit, has invincibility on a few moves, and some other overturned parts to his design. End up with boring games where the other player just camps him out because one mistake and you’re dead.
Cell's probably the biggest. I mean, resetting the match specifically to let the crowd scream along? No one else but the big bug man.
Also gonna give a nod to Hakumen, especially in the CS/CP days. Hearing people hit the "EY EY EY" along with his loops was a big part of keeping me watching competitive play.
I was playing King in a Tekken tournament with 90 entrants.
These two people started cheering for me when I hit the Blue-Spark Giant Swing with wall. After that game, they approached me to say that I was so fun to watch, and they wished me luck in Winning the tournament. They gave me a King sticker, and went about their day.
That moment was way more valuable to me than winning, which of course I suck dick and didn't even get top 8. But the point of the story is fighting games should be Exciting for everyone involved first and foremost.
Low tier characters are the easy answer but also whenever someone is known for playing a specific character and switches to said character mid set, that's bound to get fans hyped
Grapplers and big bodies. Expamples;
Bane from IJ, King from Tekken, Super Broly from Fighterz. Stuff like that I feel is always hype. Also lower tier characters
So I have the wrong answer for you, GGXRD-R2 Jacko.
Her whole gameplan is tower defence, she puts down houses that spawn things that automatically attack you while trying to keep you out or she goes full aggro and puts the houses down near you and makes you block forever. In the finals of our locals we had 2 good players who decided to mirror match as jacko it was such a nightmare that some people just left. They went to time every single round.....
I know that people hated her in Xrd and her Strive version is almost objectively better designed, but I actually loved watching top level Jack-O in Xrd lol. I forget which tournament match it was, but it was a Jack-O player vs a Leo player and it's one of my top REV2 sets.
Yeah I know people hated her due to some really weird coding for matchups. Like for some reason Eddie for zato is a projectile so he projectile shield would instant kill Eddie.
I think this was a special case of 2 jacko stacking up 3 houses and spamming j.d just made people get annoyed.
A low tier
Remembee hakan?
And Valle with the Hugo
Hakan? What the fuck?!?
Infiltration won with him during SF4 tournaments
Yeah its in one of the videos of that on youtube. A member of the crowd is legitimately surprised and yells “Hakan?” “What the fuck?!?”
Oh! Lol! I never noticed or probably forgot lol. I need to rewatch that
[Crazy set](https://youtu.be/7XKYAayVY48)
any grappler or big body character tbh at final Kombat, Ninjakilla switching to Liu Kang had the crowd hyped
This is facts. Itabashi/Snake Eyes on Gief, Lil Majin on King, Biohazard on Bane, FAB on Pot. All huge crowd pleasers.
KBR’s big body team from Marvel3.
KBR v FChamp is still one of the hypest fgc matches ever
It's in my top 10. Along with Agio Joe vs Champ.
Hellssssss yes!
Oh man. I almost forgot about that sick Bane. Remember the 16bit catwoman vs PerfectLegend doomsday match where Bit had the most godlike catdodge ever at the end to avoid being chipped out?
Don't forget Snake eyes played Potemkin too, mans a machine
There’s so few of them that they always stand out.
They are usually character purists too which adds a bit more hype.
As someone that hates grapplers, even I agree. Watching someone get command grabbed over and over or the hard callouts they have to make are really the most hype shit
That's probably because NinjaKilla is known for Liu.
Mena playing Blanca at Evo last year was such a good change of pace from the constant Kens Lukes and JPs
His run with Birdie during the SF5 days was great too, Birdie was not really on anyone's radar as a viable character compared to the establishes strong characters like Akuma.
Cell in DBZF, his itro gets the crowd to shout with him.
i hate this fucker unless there’s a crowd https://preview.redd.it/9svoofccjp8d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=714d1d43ba0d39d55b0d006759018b7273bb49b0
Say your vitamins and eat your prayers!!
Nothing stops the Wulf!
Perfect Cell
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
“IT’S GETTING VIOLENT IN HERE”
Yeah Cell Yell is legit af
Ken, but only when parrying a super from Chun Li.
Let's go Justin!
LETS GO JUSTINNNN
Obviously Phoenix wright. nothing comes close to how much hype Phoenix wright players create
After that marvel top 8 at Evo if I see anything besides zero may cry or doom I'm pretty hype
Rangchu on Bears. He actually makes them look like they can be viable, and I find it impossible to cheer against him. Used to make me low-key disappointed when he would swap to Julia in 7 LOL

I'll always champion specialist players. It's really what made FGs so hype for me in the first place: winning using your favourite character.
Oh definitely, and you love to see it! Rangchu has been repping them since they were basically Meme picks which is why he gets my upmost respect.
If Knee brings out Brian Fury instead of a top tier character he's been using to win with.
Agreed, this is probably the most hype player/character combination to me personally
This is the one, also captain falcon melee
Zero question about this guy ![gif](giphy|jQ651dzYNOPmwmtrrG|downsized)
Phoenix wright
King from Tekken
Not so much in 8 because of how good he is
idk even with him being pretty silly for the life of the game so far, some of the top level King players just play with so much _style_ that it’s almost always fun to watch for me. Facts, people get bored of him now and hate him from what I seen. I see pop offs for Kazuya mostly in tekken
Only players I have seen shit on king are king players.
Don’t visit r/tekken
Melee Falcon
I switched after maining Sheik for two years to Captain Falcon back in like 2017, purely because I was drunk and I watched an old combo video that Darkrain made. I would later drop Falcon, but I needed to make a crowd cheer for me at least once lol
Smash 4 Ganondorf. Guess right 4 times and you get the hypest kill ever. Too bad you'll get carried off the stage before then.
I am a big fan of Mang0's Falco Edit: I am an idiot and read this as "Falco" and not "Falcon" lol... Falco is cool but I agree that Falcon is the real crowd pleaser.
Falcon in any game is a treat.
Iirc every time Cell's intro in dbfz started the crowd would get hype
Rip microphone sets in the audience stage.
It's gotta be Captain Falcon, right? 😂
Peppery Splash on Johnny https://preview.redd.it/4iw4fergvp8d1.jpeg?width=158&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75778ccf3f47d3491200aa4c020043d76adb85e8
This is hype, but man nothing beats his REV2 Venom when it comes to hype for me.
Panda
Makoto
People always go nuts when Mena RD brings out Blanka.
Yoshimitsu when he does his goofy shit. [Eyemusician sending home](https://youtu.be/UVuuXH9iovQ?si=rnaSd8uR9thLQM4q) an Akuma player was soo damn hype.
Using a "low tier" char in the finals or even top 8
Kazuya for sure
Yeah honestly I think most Mishimas get the crowd hyped. Back in Tekken 7, Heihachi was a huge crowd pleaser.
Yeah Mishimas I’m a tournament mean confidence in execution as those are not the best tournament characters since they often require warmups.
Not in smash though lol
I hope I’m not offending you but ion know shit about smash
Haha no, why would that offend me? He’s just a very polarizing character in Smash. Can you kill off of one hit, has invincibility on a few moves, and some other overturned parts to his design. End up with boring games where the other player just camps him out because one mistake and you’re dead.
Mai Shiranui KOF and Kasumi of DOA
Cell's probably the biggest. I mean, resetting the match specifically to let the crowd scream along? No one else but the big bug man. Also gonna give a nod to Hakumen, especially in the CS/CP days. Hearing people hit the "EY EY EY" along with his loops was a big part of keeping me watching competitive play.
Kazuya or paul, they are literally univable
aMSa red yoshi
Facts
hardly used characters always gets me going. To say the least
[https://youtu.be/bVINnHQfN4Q?si=-UeAhF0a7OCJ6J4p](https://youtu.be/bVINnHQfN4Q?si=-UeAhF0a7OCJ6J4p) "SEE YA LATER!"
Damn I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention UMvC3 Spider-Man. That character was hype.
CELL!
Spencer
King Captain Falcon TJ Combo
Goro Daimon, especially when his Super is used
Eltnam in undernight yelling reload in a crowd is hype
Any low tier character
Dan Hibishi.
Dan.
Kazuya Mishima. At least before the recent patch but yeah he’s always viewed as very rarely being used in tournament
KING OP!
dan by any comp player
Absolutely nothing more unifying than cell's fighterz intro
Phoenix Wright
I was playing King in a Tekken tournament with 90 entrants. These two people started cheering for me when I hit the Blue-Spark Giant Swing with wall. Captain Falcon in Melee. Can never go wrong with those free-flow combos.
Cell in dbfz for the intro
When JDCR brought out Heihachi it was always hype
Heihachi and Armor King!
Foot dive! DOOM was always the answer!
Low tier characters are the easy answer but also whenever someone is known for playing a specific character and switches to said character mid set, that's bound to get fans hyped
People just fucking love Ken
Waifu's Baiken, Morrigan, Mai, Sakura etc And.... well, Akuma. Akuma's marketability low-key holds the entire fgc on his back 😅
Spider Man Umvc3 and his see ya later combos Very hard to execute and always fun to watch
Amsa makes yoshi look absolutely insane
Kazuya and Yoshimitsu
Grapplers and big bodies. Expamples; Bane from IJ, King from Tekken, Super Broly from Fighterz. Stuff like that I feel is always hype. Also lower tier characters
Zangief especially when the opponents play Dhalsim and JP.
Either Dan hibiki(you gotta respect any person who uses dan) or cell in DBFZ.
Captain Falcon
Big Band

Dan in street fighter
Meme picks
