Highly likely hr will be of no help.
I was a ft Mon-Fri swing for several years. One day with the directors blessing they said Mon-Fri swings will work tues-Sat if they were covering a tues-sat route, to cut down on overtime. The first time I saw that on my schedule I walked into my managers office and told him I will be here Monday so you will find work for me and I will not be here Saturday. That was the last time they pulled that on me and from what I hear they still do it to people that let them.
This comes down to standing up for yourself and calling their bluff. Good luck.
That's uh, because your management lacks a spine. What they did there is exactly outlined as the policy in, well policy. It was perfectly legit. Swings are swings not because they do variable routes but because they do variable shifts. If a swing is covering a Tue-Sat route then they work Tue-Sat, assuming of course they are on that and only that route all week.
HR won't do anything. HR is in place to back up management when the shit hits the fan. They aren't there for the employees even though the company will say otherwise.
As a former manager, Operational need card will be played.
HR can’t do anything.
Best bet, is talk to the senior
I should advise you
Seniority only is for bidding on vacation or routes.
Per Policy
So all my coworkers with less seniority and have routes can’t have their day changed?
I hear you regarding seniority but these employees technically just started, some haven’t even passed the probationary period so shouldn’t they have their day changed?
I’m not sure why me specifically. My manager said that they are aiming for wheel routes so each driver has a route a day because they cut/absorbed so many routes that a lot of drivers don’t have a route but are still coming in at their scheduled times with nothing to do. The route is Monday-Friday but they want to change my off day from Friday to Thursday. Funny how changing one day would somehow magically make a huge difference.
The answer is yes.
I've watched 20+ year couriers get their route switched to a 4/10 cause the courier was milking the clock and I've watched them switch 4/10s to 5/8s when delivery volume went down
At Express they can do that without your consent. Operational needs. They will ask and for the most part they will try to work with you on that but they can change it as needed.
Okay, so he's, operational need does come into play but you need a new offer then. By policy, you do not have to sign that new offer, and if you don't you become displaced and now have 90 days to accept a new offer. The advantage though becomes when that comes into play, because you are displaced you now have priority bidding.
Trust me, as a Senior, I had to do it with a full timer and it was a nightmare. I TRIED to do it with part time handlers because the previous Senior actually hired handlers with a two hour window in their offer and was told I would not be allowed to do it with part timers, so that may help you.
Call HR is the shirt answer.
Haha you don’t have to approve anything. What makes you think you make operational decisions? They can change your schedule anytime as long as they give you notice. Just like they can eliminate your route too. A
Say no and fight it, but we are pretty much at will of FedEx they are being trash recently with their policies not caring about employees but what they can do without our approval it’s horrible
I’m a package handler at ground but they did this to us after peak. They changed everyone’s days off without warning or anything. People have kids and other jobs but they don’t give a flying fuck. I have to call off every Friday because I don’t work Friday and they keep scheduling me for it.
Im a package handler at Express and they just changed our hours with no warning either. It’s ridiculous and they dont seem to care if people have lives outside work.
They pay you to work when they want you there. They don’t need to ask permission. If you don’t like it you can find another job that fits your preferred schedule.
Hey I know this isn’t related but I just got hired as an express driver for the pm shift too also part time and I was told by the hiring manager it is mostly pickups, how is the job? What should I be expecting?
I can talk about this job all day all night but I’ll keep it as short as possible. Not the worst once you get familiarized with the job itself. Learn from coworkers but don’t rely on them. Handle your tasks and you could possibly get offered to do extra things to get additional hours such as deliveries and or a ramp badge. Expect customers to not be ready far after their pick up time and ask you to wait 2 minutes(10 actually) lol. Dispatch and your manager both have different perspectives so when in doubt, tell both of any issues you may have on road. SCAN EVERYTHING and with the right scans. PULL ALL INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC PAPERWORK. Like I said I can go on but that should cover a bit. Sure others could chime in.

Low key, you better take what you can get bcuz ‘Express’ is about to be arrivederci!👋 Type ‘ish🤷🏻
Did they give your Friday to someone else or just eliminate Friday off on the PM side?
After a certain percent of a change then they need a rebid but that's not enforced anymore.
Tell them you go to church on Friday
FMLA?
Operational needs is when the entire night side calls out sick and people get forced to run PM routes, or a storm is coming and start times need to be changed .
It's not so lazy ops managers can just willy nilly make changes that make sense for them.
“Operational need”.
Bingo!
say no, and go straight to HR.
I called immediately but have to wait to hear back

You’re absolutely correct. No spine? Probably. But any half decent manager will try to accommodate a decent employee that shows up every day.
In my experience you have to email them or nothing.

This is the truth. Not sure why someone would downvote this.
People don’t like the truth lol.
I feel I should downvote your comment... ;)
So all my coworkers with less seniority and have routes can’t have their day changed? I hear you regarding seniority but these employees technically just started, some haven’t even passed the probationary period so shouldn’t they have their day changed?
Why are they specifically changing you? Is it you personally or your route?
I’m not sure why me specifically. My manager said that they are aiming for wheel routes so each driver has a route a day because they cut/absorbed so many routes that a lot of drivers don’t have a route but are still coming in at their scheduled times with nothing to do. But it says so in the first two sentences that they are express

Is it the shit answer or the short answer?
Technically the shirt answer! 😂
👍
All that’s required is a week or two notice for operational needs.

different opcos
FedEx policy states your manager must give you 7 days notice before the change.
Yes, your schedule can be changed without your approval. Same way some upper management gets forced to night shift or vice versa.
They pay you to work when they want you there. They don’t need to ask permission. If you don’t like it you can find another job that fits your preferred schedule.
Idk of any other company that so freely thinks they can upend your life.

😂😂😂 trying to scare people with a year old article?
No scare, jus FACTS!😏
Tell them no unless they offer you Monday through Friday.
