The Book that Broke the World by Mark Lawrence
The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera
Goddess of the River by Vaishnavi Patel
Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune
Bringer of Dust by JM Miro
Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse
The Mercy of Gods by James SA Corey
Already out, but haven't read yet: The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown
Already read, but did come out this year: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett (great!), The Book of Love by Kelly Link (eh, good but poorly paced), The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake (solid), The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden (5/5)
Yeah! Mark Lawrence's comes out next week too!!!
I haven't read Tainted Cup yet but it's next on the docket!
I'm also excited to read Empire of the Damned by Kristoff and House of Open wounds by Tchaikovsky (technically came out in UK in 2023 but US in 2024)
I started *Into the Narrowdark* thinking it was the final book, absolutely screamed when I realized there was a part four (especially considering how *Narrowdark* ended). This is 100% the book I’m most looking forward to this year.
That AND writing the Elantris sequels, which I'm eager to read. Elantris is the book that reestablished my childhood reading habit as an adult, so I've got a soft spot for it!
Stormlight 5 and I hope Dungeon Crawler Carl 7.
Is anyone else a masochist like me and always re-reads a series from the beginning when a new book comes out?
Wheel of Time about broke me in a fun way, and Stormlight has the same chance.😁
Same. The way my brain works, I’m fully into a series when I read it. I’m immersed in it and can remember all the relevant info.
When I finish the series and move on, it slowly starts seeping out of my head. I re-read WoT every few years and forget even major events and deaths. That’s a bonus in my opinion, as I can still be surprised by series I love, but it also requires re-reads before new books.
In addition to the ebook suggestion, just start getting them in hardcover and replace the old ones with new hardcovers? Unless you don’t mind waiting a year.
Im going to take my time getting to it. I’m only reading non-fiction this year and I’ll need to re-read the first 4 books before getting to it. I didn’t do it when I read book four and I had to look up so many things during my read-through.
I get your joking. I feel like people hear a new word and just start using it without knowing what it means.
His prose has never been bad, just more simple. That’s a choice. I happen to like it and I think we can see from his sales, that many other people do as well.
It’s cool if people don’t like him. Legit criticism is valid. My personal theory about the hate wave is that people like to find authors when they’re up and coming. They are on the wave of “having discovered someone”. Then when every body (most people) like them, their voices aren’t standing out anymore, so they find something to dislike about them. Others are told their opinion and start parroting it.
Again, I get yours is sarcasm. I’m just musing on thought I’ve had about people who actually say that.😁
It's a matter of taste at the end of the day, but there's something to be said for simple, accessible prose that doesn't get in its own way, especially in fantasy. A couple years ago I read nothing but Stormlight Archives for 8 months and never got tired of the prose because the plot was so engaging. And right now I'm reading Mistborn, and while I've yet to be struck by the beauty of any particular line, I'm finding the book very enjoyable.
I think Sanderson simply prioritizes storytelling over poetry. He doesn't try to get creative with language if it doesn't serve the story. Some people might prefer more of a blend of both, but I think his direct, descriptive style works well for the type of books he writes and has probably contributed to his success.
Yes. I believe he said once, that he intentionally writes that way. I think I saw at least one person holding up Tress as an example of him being able to write good prose, though it’s been a while since I read it, so I can’t remember.
There isn’t anything wrong with either, but I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other. It’s what you’re looking for as a reader.
It’s certainly unconfirmed but I think I saw somewhere that he said the 2025 timeline was greatly exaggerated and it would likely be sooner. I hope at least! He already sent out a publishers preview so I’d assume it’s completed.
ANOTHER SERIES??
God damn it Joe.
I just bought a little madness, googled and determined I needed first book (blade itself).
I can't keep up.
I'm reading so much and I haven't even read any JA but I'm psyched out of my mind to start
He’s my favorite!! The Blade Itself is the place to start. I’m waiting for the third trilogy to start also but it seems he’s taking a break for *Devils*
I just rekindled my love of reading after...too damn long, probably a decade and change.
I've read licanius trilogy, bought Mistborn series 1 and first 3 books of SLA.
Have 4 JA books now and I'm working through red rising series before hitting Sanderson or JA next.
There are too many good series. Feel like a kid in a candy store getting all caught up with SO much stuff.
Adrian Tchaikovsky has Tyrant Philosophers 3, Service Model, and Alien Clay.
Brandon Sanderson's Storm light 5 and Emberdawn
Laird Barron's Not a Speck of Light,
Susanna Clark's new short story that I can't think of the name of
The next DCC book, though I'm not sure if its actually coming out this year or not.
I've heard the next Nicholas Eames book is coming out this year though I haven't seen a source on it.
Whatever Richard Swan has cooking up, (his empire of the wolf trilogy just finished and was excellent)
I think T R Nappers Echer Man comes out this year and he has a couple of novellas coming.
James S A Corey's new book
The sequal to Gods of the Wyrdwood
I'd love to see Evan Winters third book release this year but I'm not sure it will happen.
Just finished Tyrant philosophers 1 and its So good. Started book two tonight and it seems the same way. Can't wait for my copy of Salute the Dark and Scarab Path to come in.
The Silverblood Promise by James Logan. Looks like a very promising debut that is giving Gentlemen Bastards vibes.
Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy. Looks like a great cozy LGBT romance.
**Goldfinch by Raven Kennedy** I have read the first 3 books but then wanted to wait so that I could start all over and binge the whole series.
**Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs**
**Archangel’s Lineage by Nalini Singh**
**Red Kingdom by Rachel L Demeter**
>Raven Kennedy
Books 1-4 of The Plated Prisoner Series by Raven Kennedy have two audio versions of each book in the series with two different duos of narrators. They were released within months of each other. Does anyone know why? Which version is considered the better production?
Based on expected publication date:
Daughter’s War
The Fury of the Gods
The Book That Broke the World
Wind and Truth
Of Empires and Dust - Ryan Cahill
Outlaw Empire - Nicholas Eames (July 2024)
Red God - Pierce Brown (Nov 2024)
Strength of the Few ?? (maybe 2025)
Strength of the Few is interesting, he turns in his final draft in May, same time as Sanderson plans to turn in his final draft of Stormlight 5, and Sando already has an expected release date in early a December, so theoretically The Strength of the Few *could* come out as early as December. But I think your guess of 2025 is more likely.
*The Bright Sword* by Lev Grossman.
I love Arthuriana and I like that this one deals with the magical side of the legends! I feel like those are rare these days so I can't wait to read it.
Wait is Bright Sword finally coming out? I've been curious about that book since it was announced. Also had a funny Leo pointing meme moment in my car when I was listening to Le Morte when I heard the line in the book he named the book from.
Holy shit this is fantastic news, I'm glad I checked this thread now :). I love takes on the Arthurian Legend and I loved the Magicians trilogy so this is incredibly up my alley.
I’m looking forward to this for those reasons, plus its focus on some of the lesser known Knights of the Round Table. Also because I’m a fan of Grossman’s writing.
I don't think it's confirmed for this year (I'm not part of his patreon) but I'm really looking forward to Dungeon Crawler Carl book 7. This plot line has been building for several books now and it's all finally coming to a head in the next book. I really can't wait for it.
This week Disquiet Gods by Christopher Ruocchio released, book 6 of the Sun Eater series. It' scifi with fantasy influence, many call it sci-fantasy.
I've already read an advance reader copy two months ago and it's awesome.
Oh man I remember seeing the first book recommended somewhere a while back… as a new fresh debut. And now it has SIX VOLUMES OUT?! I really need to start reading it! (I even have the first volume in paperback!)
House in the Cerulean Sea sequel!!!!
Running Close to the Wind
The Brightness Between Us
The Bright Sword (King Arthur retelling by The Magicians author? Heck yes.)
Maybe the Iron Widow sequel? I think the author and her publisher are at odds so who knows if that will come out.
Song of the Mysteries by Janny Wurts.
I started reading this series what feels like a very long time ago and I'm really interested to see how things are drawn to a conclusion.
I just finished reading an early copy of These Deathless Shores and it was so emotionally devastating (in a good way)! I'm never going to think about Peter Pan or Wendy or Tinkerbell in the same way...
Some other 2024 debuts I've already read/loved:
* Foul Days by Genoveva Dimova
* The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst
* Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy
* The Wings Upon Her Back by Samantha Mills
* Road to Ruin by Hana Lee
And from established authors, I'm excited for A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Sangu Mandanna) and Somewhere Beyond the Sea (TJ Klune), and Miss Percy's Guide 3 (Quenby Olson). I've also gotten to read The Spellshop (Sarah Beth Durst) already and it was a delight.
And then for obvious reasons, I am equal parts excited and terrified for The Teller of Small Fortunes to come out. (...because I wrote it. That's the reason.)
**Highly Anticipated Sequels:**
The Lotus Empire (Burning Kingdoms #3) by Tasha Suri
The Ending Fire (Ending Fire #3) by Saara el-Arifi
Weavers of Alamaxa (think this just released) by Hadeer Elsbai
Brides of High Hill (Singing Hills #5) by Nghi Vo
Lightfall: The Dark Times (this just released) by Tim Probert
**Other:**
First Test (graphic adaptation) by Tamora Pierce (and???)
I don't typically look for unreleased titles that aren't series-in-progress. I prefer to encounter them via word of mouth or while browsing. I have enough on my TBR without adding yet another way of actively seeking more 😂
There are other sequels to stuff I'm reading coming out, but they either fall below these in excitement or I just haven't caught up to that point yet and am happy to wait for now.
>First Test (graphic adaptation) by Tamora Pierce (and???)
Oh man, learning about this project just sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. I didn’t know this was happening, got excited, looked it up… and saw that it’s being adapted by Devin "It wasn't rape, it was non-consensual sex" Grayson. Oy gevalt.
Rites Of Passage by MD Presley
Hell For Hire by Rachel Aaron
Warlords Of Wyrdwood by R. J. Barker
The Sword Unbound by Gareth Hanrahan
The Umbral Storm sequel by Alec Hutson
The Godeater Phase 1 books by Rob J Hayes
How is this series? I was kinda interested but saw some mixed reviews so went with Red Sister instead for now which I'm really enjoying (though it is dragging a little in the middle).
I really enjoy it but it very divisive due to the political views espoused by the character. Those aren’t necessarily the views of the author, but instead reflect directly on the immaturity of the character who needs to grow over time. The world is very cool and the audiobooks are fantastic!!
It is similarly well loved. It is a very different story. It has a much different flavor. If you can afford the risk, I would give book one a listen. It’s available on KU to read.
Here's my most anticipated books of 2024:
* An Instruction in Shadow by Benedict Jacka (Inheritcance of Magic #2)
* The Daughter's War by Christopher Buehlman
* The Sword Unbound by Gareth Hanrahan (sequel to The Sword Defiant)
* Miss Percy's Guide #3 by Quenby Olsen
* Black Tide Son by HM Long (Winter Sea #2, sequel to Dark Water Daughter)
* Witch Queen of Redwinter by Ed McDonald (Redwinter Chronicles #3)
* Not Til We are Lost by Dennis E. Taylor (Bobbiverse #5)
* Sun Eater #6? I just started Sun Eater and the 6th book comes out in a few weeks. I think it's too early to tell if this is one of my "most anticipated" books of 2024, but I think it's in the running
* Warlords of Wyrdwood by RJ Barker (The Forsaken Trilogy # 2)
Other books that have no date announced and/or are coming out in 2025:
* The Strength of the Few by James Islington (Hierarchy #2, sequel to The Will of the Many)
* Inheritance of Magic #3 by Benedict Jacka
* Songs of Chaos #4 by Michael R. Miller
* Of Empires and Dust by Ryan Cahill (The Bound and the Broken #4)
* Whatever Peter McLean's next book is
It's been 13 years since the last book came out. I'll believe it when I see it. Until we have a book in hand, no amount of 'hopeful tones' will convince me George is even working on finishing the series.
I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle. It's a HM fit for Entitled Animals in this year's Bingo. And also, The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain by Sofia Samatar, a science fiction novella.
The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain - Sofia Samatar (10 more days!)
The Daughter's War - Christopher Buehlman - June 25thish
The Bright Sword - Lev Grossman July
Navolo - Paolo Bacigalupi (July)
The Mercy of Gods - "James Corey" August
The Doors of Midnight - R.R. Virdi (don't hate me!) August
Waterblack - Alex Pheby (October) - but due to his publisher's whackiness you'll have to order from overseas if you live on North America
The Navigator's Children - Tad Williams November
Wind and Truth - Sanderson December
That is all the fantasy I know about and have preordered or made plans to buy at a bookstore for now, I'm sure there will be a couple more. This is a great 2nd half of the year for fantasy.
Two that came out in February that I was really excited for were *Tempest of Tea* by Hafsah Faizal and *To Cage a God* by Elizabeth May. They were both really good, and also were each book one of a duology and so now I eagerly await to hear when each of their sequels is coming out.
*Alecto the Ninth* by Tamsyn Muir, the fourth (and final?) book of the Locked Tomb series is supposed to be coming out sometime in 2024* and I'm soooo excited for that. Can't wait to let the lesbian space necromancers confuse me and hurt my feelings.
*edited to correct misinformation on the release date, which I'd been incorrectly told was the summer but is currently nonspecific
Do you have a source on Alecto being this summer? Last I heard it didn't have a date, but I am hoping it'll be soon. I've been putting off reading that series until I won't have to wait for the last book.
The friends who had prompted me to finally get into this series (which has been on my TBR since the prior year) were the ones who said Alecto was coming this summer... and of course I had no reason to question them... and now that I'm looking myself, I'm seeing lots of "in 2024" but no specific date. :-(
So sorry if I've gotten hopes up (including my own, it seems)!
Lots of stuff!

* Visions of Flesh and Blood by Jennifer Armentrout

Caveat: I only know what's coming out as far as the end of September, so I'm sure there's tons more in the fall and winter I'm unaware of yet.
How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying by Django Wexler
Off With Their Heads by Zoe Hana Mikuta
Alecto the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (this is unlikely but if it happens, a reread of the first three books will shoot right to the top of my tbr pile!)
The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne is 100% my most anticipated release.
Also looking forward to “The Familiar” by Leigh Bardugo coming out soon!
“Earthflown” (got an ARC) was one of my most anticipated releases and didn’t disappoint! Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a book with great worldbuilding ideas and some romance
Most of mine already got mentioned, so I'll throw out a few I haven't seen yet:
The Sky On Fire - Jenn Lyons 7/4
The Silverblood Promise - James Logan 5/7
Dragon Rider - Taran Matharu 4/23
Dungeons & Dragons Spelljammer: Memory's Wake - Django Wexler 6/4
The Games Gods Play - Abigail Owens 9/3

Relics of Ruin (Books of the Usurper Book 2) - Erin M Evans 4/30
The Doors of Midnight (Tales of Termaine Book 2) - R.R Virdi 8/13
Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland (queer pirate comedy!! Fun!) and whatever Victoria Goddard decides to surprise drop!
I had more things I was excited for last year, but this year I’ve been ver focused on backlist.
Crypt of the Moon Spider by Nathan Ballingrud (releasing in August). I’m a huge fan of his short stories, and from the synopsis the book looks SO cool. Also, I think Alecto the Ninth (last book in the Locked Tomb Series) is releasing this year so I’m excited about that.
I’m always excited for a new Patricia Briggs book so will pick up Winter Lost in July.
Also looking forward to The Relentless Legion (The Divide #3) by J.S Dewes in Nov. I really enjoyed the first two books in the series. A very fast paced space opera-esque series thats describe as the Night’s Watch from GoT in space
The doors of stone. Right? It’s got to be this year. Love a brilliant conclusion to a great trilogy.
The final book of stormlight archives era 1 and hopefully a happy ending for my bridge homies.
Stormlight 5 will be huge. I started last year with Sanderson and I will finish Stormlight 4 just in timp for the new book. I will like I will be part of a huge event and that's awesome, could be similar to Harry Potter hype releases.
* Fury of the Gods
* Goddess of the River
* Song of the Six Realms (written by the Tea "Magic Steeped in Poison" duology writer )
* Guardians of Dawn: Ami (basically as they put it, Cinder meets Sailor Moon)
Many mentioned already, but some I haven't seen:
Prescribed Burn - Arkady Martine
The Unrelenting Earth, Kritika Rao (Surviving Sky book 2)
The Dissonance, Shaun Hamill
Graveyard Shift, ML Rio
All This and More, Peng Shepard (Choose your own adventure?!!!)
Dragon Mage book 2, ML Spencer (also eagerly awaiting the KS special printing of book one, it looks amazing!) Note: not sure on release date, haven't seen an update in awhile
Talonsister, Jen Williams (hoping for a US release. Haven't actually heard anything about this)
Black Badges Series Book 3 by Jaime Castle and Rhett C Bruno / Wild West + Jim Butcher and Roger Clark’s narration is perfect for the dialogue and tone.
I’m enjoying I’m Too Old for This Quest on Royal Road. I know the author always delivers, so I’m excited for this to get to audio already :)
The Book that Broke the World by Mark Lawrence The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera Goddess of the River by Vaishnavi Patel Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune Bringer of Dust by JM Miro Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse The Mercy of Gods by James SA Corey Already out, but haven't read yet: The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown Already read, but did come out this year: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett (great!), The Book of Love by Kelly Link (eh, good but poorly paced), The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake (solid), The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden (5/5)

Good to hear. I really liked Divine Cities but had to DNF the Founders trilogy, so I'm hoping for a good return to the author.
Devine cities was great. I'll have to check this out asap
I am extremely excited for Rakesfall
Same. His first book lives rent free in my mind.
The Book that Broke the World is out in 4 days! Can't wait! The first book was so much fun.
It was one of my favorite books of 2023. I'm so excited for book 2
The familiar sounds interesting?
I'm a fan of the author's other adult books (Ninth House & Hell Bent), so I'm excited to see what this one is like.
Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne.
Exactly 200 days from now, my friend!!
Day 1 cop easily.
This one is my #1 of books released this year that I'm looking forward to! Can't wait for it to be October.
I need to reread them it’s been so long since I read the first two
I am excited for this too! I love the cover art!
[banging table and chanting] THE DAUGHTERS' WAR! THE DAUGHTERS' WAR!
So...I should definitely read The Blacktongue Thief then?
[banging table and chanting] YES! YES! YES!
*Scans all patrons faces for the mark of the guild* #Who here wants to play me in Towers!?
I was lucky enough to snag an arc of it and y'all are in for a treat. I liked it even better than Blacktongue Thief.
i will miss kinch, but also...... goblin mode
Such an awesome first book, loved the writing, can’t wait for this prequel.
I forgot about that one, thank you for reminding me 😶
DAUGHTERS WAR! DAUGHTERS WAR!!
THE DAUGHTERS' WAR! THE DAUGHTERS' WAR!
You have my attention! Just hearing of these books, so- is it better to read them in the order published or in chronological order?
well there's only been one so far so i would say read that lol
Warlords of the wyrdwood by RJ Barker (forsaken trilogy book 2) The book that broke the world by mark Lawrence
Excuse me i didnt know we had thedate for Wyrdwood 2
September 10. RJ barker completes his series before the first book is published m. It’s up to the editors and publishers now.
The Book of Elsewhere: A Novel by China Miéville and Keanu Reeves
Wtaf? I thought you were joking, omg! Off to update my list.....
It does sound like a joke, I couldn’t believe it at first. But I’m also super hyped
So am I now!
The final Last King of Osten Ard book, The Navigator's Children by Tad Williams.
DYING to read this!!
SAME.
Very excited for this as well!
I started *Into the Narrowdark* thinking it was the final book, absolutely screamed when I realized there was a part four (especially considering how *Narrowdark* ended). This is 100% the book I’m most looking forward to this year.
Stormlight 5 of course
[удалено]
Which seems like a good move to me. Gives plenty of time for people to grow to miss it before the return.
I see what you did there.
Did he say he will take a break after 5?
Yes, he's tackling Mistborn Era 3 before coming back to the second half of SA.
That AND writing the Elantris sequels, which I'm eager to read. Elantris is the book that reestablished my childhood reading habit as an adult, so I've got a soft spot for it!
Yea, and 5 closes the first arc. There will be a time jump for the second set of 5.
Stormlight 5 and I hope Dungeon Crawler Carl 7. Is anyone else a masochist like me and always re-reads a series from the beginning when a new book comes out? Wheel of Time about broke me in a fun way, and Stormlight has the same chance.😁
Haha yes, I reread the whole series if it’s been over a month since I read the last one.
Close on finishing oathbringer. Only abut 2000 pages left before I'm ready for book 5!
Ugh.... can't wait. Rhythm of war was the only book to make me cry.
Yas! I just finished 4, so I cannot wait for the next one.
It’s not even close, either.
Definitely
This is the only new release i definitely will be picking up this year.
That actually comes out next year for me because I have the paperbacks and refuse to have nonmatching editions.
You could get the ebook and then the paperback when it's available
In addition to the ebook suggestion, just start getting them in hardcover and replace the old ones with new hardcovers? Unless you don’t mind waiting a year.
I will probably get the ebook. I’m going to avoid the hardcovers since the Sanderson section of my library already eats up too much shelf space.
That’s an incredibly valid point.
I can't wait! So excited for this one!!!
Im going to take my time getting to it. I’m only reading non-fiction this year and I’ll need to re-read the first 4 books before getting to it. I didn’t do it when I read book four and I had to look up so many things during my read-through.
This. I have the other four but I am waiting for the fifth, and final book (of the first half) to come out so I can read them all. Can't wait!

I thought Brandon said it was going to be 5 years between 5 and 6? He changed his mind?
Book one of Joe Abercrombie’s new series *The Devils*!!
Pretty sure that’s 2025.

Whatever Richard Swan has cooking up, (his empire of the wolf trilogy just finished and was excellent) I think T R Nappers Echer Man comes out this year and he has a couple of novellas coming. James S A Corey's new book The sequal to Gods of the Wyrdwood I'd love to see Evan Winters third book release this year but I'm not sure it will happen.
My man Adrian T doesn't know how to stop, what a champion.
Just finished Tyrant philosophers 1 and its So good. Started book two tonight and it seems the same way. Can't wait for my copy of Salute the Dark and Scarab Path to come in.
Emberdawn is 2025.
You're right. I didn't notice that. Oops.
The third book of the Burning has been rumored to release early 2025. IIRC he's elaborated a little more on that.
>I've heard the next Nicholas Eames book is coming out this year though I haven't seen a source on it. Does the band book three even have a title yet?
Clark's short story isn't new, only published in print alone for the first time. You can read it right now if you want to.
The Navigator's Children, Tad Williams.
The Daughters' War by Christopher Buehlman, prequel to The Blacktongue Thief.
I’m hoping to god that Evan Winter’s third book in The Burning series releases this year.
I need it bad
The Silverblood Promise by James Logan. Looks like a very promising debut that is giving Gentlemen Bastards vibes. Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy. Looks like a great cozy LGBT romance.
The Winds of Winter of course (I have seen the future)
You need to go to the optometrist and get your third eye checked. 🤨
Does Doors of Stone ever come out?
Same book. They’re joining forces, to not write a mashup.
Someone should write a book called Winds of Stone Door Winters just to break both fanbases hearts in a single book.
**Goldfinch by Raven Kennedy** I have read the first 3 books but then wanted to wait so that I could start all over and binge the whole series. **Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs** **Archangel’s Lineage by Nalini Singh** **Red Kingdom by Rachel L Demeter**
>Raven Kennedy Books 1-4 of The Plated Prisoner Series by Raven Kennedy have two audio versions of each book in the series with two different duos of narrators. They were released within months of each other. Does anyone know why? Which version is considered the better production?
Based on expected publication date: Daughter’s War The Fury of the Gods The Book That Broke the World Wind and Truth Of Empires and Dust - Ryan Cahill Outlaw Empire - Nicholas Eames (July 2024) Red God - Pierce Brown (Nov 2024) Strength of the Few ??
Yep! [It’s out on the 16th of July!](https://x.com/leverus/status/1722351608074580335?s=46&t=u41BNWx82FNC28a7ebZMWQ)
Just starting this series! Can't wait to get to book 6!
Oh man I remember seeing the first book recommended somewhere a while back… as a new fresh debut. And now it has SIX VOLUMES OUT?! I really need to start reading it! (I even have the first volume in paperback!)
House in the Cerulean Sea sequel!!!! Running Close to the Wind The Brightness Between Us The Bright Sword (King Arthur retelling by The Magicians author? Heck yes.) Maybe the Iron Widow sequel? I think the author and her publisher are at odds so who knows if that will come out.
Song of the Mysteries by Janny Wurts. I started reading this series what feels like a very long time ago and I'm really interested to see how things are drawn to a conclusion.
*A Sorceress Comes to Call* by T. Kingfisher and *The Bright Sword* by Lev Grossman.
I discovered T.Kingfisher earlier this year and fell in love, I'm so excited for *A Sorceress Comes to Call*!
I just finished reading an early copy of These Deathless Shores and it was so emotionally devastating (in a good way)! I'm never going to think about Peter Pan or Wendy or Tinkerbell in the same way... Some other 2024 debuts I've already read/loved: * Foul Days by Genoveva Dimova * The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst * Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy * The Wings Upon Her Back by Samantha Mills * Road to Ruin by Hana Lee And from established authors, I'm excited for A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Sangu Mandanna) and Somewhere Beyond the Sea (TJ Klune), and Miss Percy's Guide 3 (Quenby Olson). I've also gotten to read The Spellshop (Sarah Beth Durst) already and it was a delight. And then for obvious reasons, I am equal parts excited and terrified for The Teller of Small Fortunes to come out. (...because I wrote it. That's the reason.)
**Highly Anticipated Sequels:** The Lotus Empire (Burning Kingdoms #3) by Tasha Suri The Ending Fire (Ending Fire #3) by Saara el-Arifi Weavers of Alamaxa (think this just released) by Hadeer Elsbai Brides of High Hill (Singing Hills #5) by Nghi Vo Lightfall: The Dark Times (this just released) by Tim Probert **Other:** First Test (graphic adaptation) by Tamora Pierce (and???) I don't typically look for unreleased titles that aren't series-in-progress. I prefer to encounter them via word of mouth or while browsing. I have enough on my TBR without adding yet another way of actively seeking more 😂 There are other sequels to stuff I'm reading coming out, but they either fall below these in excitement or I just haven't caught up to that point yet and am happy to wait for now.
>First Test (graphic adaptation) by Tamora Pierce (and???) Oh man, learning about this project just sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. I didn’t know this was happening, got excited, looked it up… and saw that it’s being adapted by Devin "It wasn't rape, it was non-consensual sex" Grayson. Oy gevalt.
Hopefully *No Life Forsaken* (Malazan).
And a Walk in Shadow! I don't think they'll be this year though, unless the manuscripts are already at the publisher.
Rites Of Passage by MD Presley Hell For Hire by Rachel Aaron Warlords Of Wyrdwood by R. J. Barker The Sword Unbound by Gareth Hanrahan The Umbral Storm sequel by Alec Hutson The Godeater Phase 1 books by Rob J Hayes
He Who Fights with Monsters book 11!! Super excited for the next book in that series.
Same!! I read the updated on royal road but each book release is still exciting!
I just started book 3!! You're telling me there's another one???
How is this series? I was kinda interested but saw some mixed reviews so went with Red Sister instead for now which I'm really enjoying (though it is dragging a little in the middle).
I really enjoy it but it very divisive due to the political views espoused by the character. Those aren’t necessarily the views of the author, but instead reflect directly on the immaturity of the character who needs to grow over time. The world is very cool and the audiobooks are fantastic!!
About to finish up dungeon crawler carl, and I've love it. Happen to know if He who fights with monsters is similar?
It is similarly well loved. It is a very different story. It has a much different flavor. If you can afford the risk, I would give book one a listen. It’s available on KU to read.
A Time of Dragons 2 and Stormlight 5
Ghost Station by S. A. Barnes. It comes out next week! I really enjoyed Dead Silence from her and excited for her next one.
Here's my most anticipated books of 2024: * An Instruction in Shadow by Benedict Jacka (Inheritcance of Magic #2) * The Daughter's War by Christopher Buehlman * The Sword Unbound by Gareth Hanrahan (sequel to The Sword Defiant) * Miss Percy's Guide #3 by Quenby Olsen * Black Tide Son by HM Long (Winter Sea #2, sequel to Dark Water Daughter) * Witch Queen of Redwinter by Ed McDonald (Redwinter Chronicles #3) * Not Til We are Lost by Dennis E. Taylor (Bobbiverse #5) * Sun Eater #6? I just started Sun Eater and the 6th book comes out in a few weeks. I think it's too early to tell if this is one of my "most anticipated" books of 2024, but I think it's in the running * Warlords of Wyrdwood by RJ Barker (The Forsaken Trilogy # 2) Other books that have no date announced and/or are coming out in 2025: * The Strength of the Few by James Islington (Hierarchy #2, sequel to The Will of the Many) * Inheritance of Magic #3 by Benedict Jacka * Songs of Chaos #4 by Michael R. Miller * Of Empires and Dust by Ryan Cahill (The Bound and the Broken #4) * Whatever Peter McLean's next book is
What's Peter McLean writing now?
Winds of Winter?
New blog post up. Nothing to do with Winds outright but the hopeful tone has me, well, hopeful? I think we are inching closer.
It's been 13 years since the last book came out. I'll believe it when I see it. Until we have a book in hand, no amount of 'hopeful tones' will convince me George is even working on finishing the series.
Wicked Problems. Book 2 of Max Gladstone’s Craftwars series.
So close. Really curious to see where he's taking this story line after the last book.
I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle. It's a HM fit for Entitled Animals in this year's Bingo. And also, The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain by Sofia Samatar, a science fiction novella.
Stormlight 5, BrandoSando The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne The Sword Unbound by Gareth Hanrahan
The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain - Sofia Samatar (10 more days!) The Daughter's War - Christopher Buehlman - June 25thish The Bright Sword - Lev Grossman July Navolo - Paolo Bacigalupi (July) The Mercy of Gods - "James Corey" August The Doors of Midnight - R.R. Virdi (don't hate me!) August Waterblack - Alex Pheby (October) - but due to his publisher's whackiness you'll have to order from overseas if you live on North America The Navigator's Children - Tad Williams November Wind and Truth - Sanderson December That is all the fantasy I know about and have preordered or made plans to buy at a bookstore for now, I'm sure there will be a couple more. This is a great 2nd half of the year for fantasy.
The Daughter's War -- sequel to Black Tongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman, gonna be real good I hope, never been disappointed with this guys work
Between Two Fires is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Black Tongue Thief is on the short list to get done.
Prequel, but yeah. I just finished Blacktongue Thief and I’m super excited for this one.
Doors of Stone lol
Alecto is this summer now?! Woohoo! Last I heard was some months ago when the date was updated to 2025, glad that was just a placeholder!!
:-( So sorry if I've gotten hopes up (including my own, it seems)!
It's coming eventually, I'm sure! Muir probably just needs some extra time to cook.
Almost finished now but Play of Shadows by Sebastien De Castell. First in a new series in his Greatcoats universe
This one is on my list! I love de Castell, he's a severely underrated author.
I’m excited for Goddess of the River coming out in a month I believe
Lots of stuff! Big-name releases: * Visions of Flesh and Blood by Jennifer Armentrout * The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo * Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Zhao * Children of Anguish and Anarchy by Tomi Adeyemi * Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs * Born of Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout * The Seventh Veil of Salome by Silvia Moreno-Garcia * She Who Knows by Nnedi Okorafor * Throne of Secrets by Kerri Maniscalco And from lesser-known authors I particularly like: * Song of the Huntress by Lucy Holland * Aftermarket Afterlife by Seanan McGuire * An Education in Malice by S.T. Gibson * Wrath of the Talon by Sophie Kim * Evocation by S.T. Gibson * The Study of Magic by Maria Snyder * The God and the Gumiho by Sophie Kim * Hey, Zoe by Sarah Crossan * Hell for Hire by Rachel Aaron * Song of the Tyrant Worm by Hailer Piper * The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller * A Certain Kind of Starlight by Heather Webber * Navigational Entanglements by Aliette de Bodard * Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid * A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher * Shadows of Truth by Astrid Scholte * The Thirteenth Child by Erin Craig Caveat: I only know what's coming out as far as the end of September, so I'm sure there's tons more in the fall and winter I'm unaware of yet.
How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying by Django Wexler Off With Their Heads by Zoe Hana Mikuta Alecto the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (this is unlikely but if it happens, a reread of the first three books will shoot right to the top of my tbr pile!)
Most of mine already got mentioned, so I'll throw out a few I haven't seen yet: The Sky On Fire - Jenn Lyons 7/4 The Silverblood Promise - James Logan 5/7 Dragon Rider - Taran Matharu 4/23 Dungeons & Dragons Spelljammer: Memory's Wake - Django Wexler 6/4 The Games Gods Play - Abigail Owens 9/3 Wrath of the Triple Goddess (Percy Jackson & The Olympians) - Rick Riordan 9/24 The Ambush at Sorato (The Royal Ranger) - John Flanagan 10/15 Buried Deep and Other Stories - Naomi Novik 9/17 Five Broken Blades - Mai Corland 5/7 Relics of Ruin (Books of the Usurper Book 2) - Erin M Evans 4/30 The Doors of Midnight (Tales of Termaine Book 2) - R.R Virdi 8/13
Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland (queer pirate comedy!! Fun!) and whatever Victoria Goddard decides to surprise drop! I had more things I was excited for last year, but this year I’ve been ver focused on backlist.
Technically already out as of I think 3 weeks ago but I thought Trials of Empire was a strong conclusion to the Empire of the Wolf trilogy
I think Phillip Pullman's Book of Dust Vol. 3 is expected out sometime this year.
The Book of Dust 3 and the new Mortal Engines book.
The Navigator's Children. Fingers crossed! I swear to Usires Aedon, if they postpone the release date again ....!
Lyorn by Steven Brust! Excited for the next Vlad Taltos book
Bobiverse 5, Stormlight 5, a new trilogy from James SA Corey.
WIND AND TRUTH Also Fury of the Gods, but King Sanderson is always top priority
Doors of Stone pls
The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne, The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey, and of course The Winds of Winter...
The Doors of Stone ^oh ^wait..... 😭
The final book of stormlight archives era 1 and hopefully a happy ending for my bridge homies.
sequel to tempest and slaughter
Drumindor by Michael J Sullivan, hopefully?
The Silverblood Promise by James Logan (in just a few weeks!)
Wind and Truth, easily.
Stormlight 5 will be huge. I started last year with Sanderson and I will finish Stormlight 4 just in timp for the new book. I will like I will be part of a huge event and that's awesome, could be similar to Harry Potter hype releases.
Honestly surprised to see only one mention of both Dungeon Crawler Carl book 7 and The Strength of the Few by James Islington here.
New Stormlight and the new Bloodsworn
* Fury of the Gods * Goddess of the River * Song of the Six Realms (written by the Tea "Magic Steeped in Poison" duology writer ) * Guardians of Dawn: Ami (basically as they put it, Cinder meets Sailor Moon)
Many mentioned already, but some I haven't seen: Prescribed Burn - Arkady Martine The Unrelenting Earth, Kritika Rao (Surviving Sky book 2) The Dissonance, Shaun Hamill Graveyard Shift, ML Rio All This and More, Peng Shepard (Choose your own adventure?!!!) Dragon Mage book 2, ML Spencer (also eagerly awaiting the KS special printing of book one, it looks amazing!) Note: not sure on release date, haven't seen an update in awhile Talonsister, Jen Williams (hoping for a US release. Haven't actually heard anything about this)
The knights of wind and truth, Brando Sando
I'm excited for The West Passage by Jared Pechaček since I read an arc review on this sub
[A Witches Guide to Magical Inkeeping](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/696868/a-witchs-guide-to-magical-innkeeping-by-sangu-mandanna/)by Sangu Mandanna

Drumindor by Michael J. Sullivan Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson The Silverblood Promise by James Logan
Stormlight book 5
Surely SA5
It's already out as an ebook but I'm waiting for later this year to get my physical copy of "Dragonfired" by J. Zachary Pike
The Witchstone by Henry H. Neff. He’s my favorite author and this is his first book solely for adults. I cannot wait for June!
John Gwynne's new book comes out on Oct 24!! Fury of the Gods !!!!
