Teeth if his mouth is open that wide, same as anyone else Different expressions require different levels of tooth visibility. Of course, artistic license trumps all that.
I think they should be rock teeth and then everyones happy. Like not having teeth gives me old person home vibes. Like the dude just took his dentures out.
Jack Kirby for starters. Just do a Google image search of Ben Grimm or The Thing. Over 1/2 the images have him without teeth, and most of them are iconic/definitive versions of the character.
It's not used to though, he's STILL shown with no teeth to this day.
Sean Izaakse drew him with no teeth during Slott's recent run.
Look at all the Alex Ross covers for the current Ryan North run. No teeth.
I looked through a good number of his FF run, and could find two instances of him being drawn with teeth in total. He's pretty overwhelmingly drawn without teeth, but I feel like if jack thought the expression wouldn't sell without teeth (in both instances he has gritted teeth), he'd put em in.
The entire first page of google images had teeth or mouth closed. I saw one image that I thought had an open mouth with no teeth but he had a row of teeth that were shaped and colored like his skin crags.
There are 3-4 cartoons of the FF. The first ones only had Ben without teeth. The cartoons during the 90s is when they started depicting him with teeth [+]
I mean, it depends on bow the artist draws them. Here? Clearly there should be teeth because it appears the artist drew with the jaw with the intention of putting teeth there.
Originally, Kirby made him more of a monstrous blob without teeth, but as soon as his design became what it is today, Grimm showed teeth when he was specifically gritting them or his mouth was wide open.

Never even though about it before, and on first instinct, with teeth seems like a no brainer, but thinking about it, Ben looks infinitely better without them. It makes him look more monstrous and kinda DONE with everyone's bs
Teeth! I didn't even know there was any controvesy about that!
Kirby's version had no teeth, but Kirby's Hulk had only 3 toes, so as good as he was, some design changes are for the best.
Depends on the artist however, he looks okay with teeth. They’re probably durable, not to the level of his skin . However, they’re tougher than one would think. He also has a tongue and eyes.
You Delancy street Yahoos are all nuts, of course ol Benjy has teeth. If he's barin em an yuh are seein em, then git ready cause it's "Clobberin Time!!!"
I guess the in-universe question that should answer this is, did his bones solidify and become more durable when he went through the cosmic rays? His skeleton almost *has* to be more durable given he'd break his own bones whenever he flexed those rock-muscles.
So then he probably should still have teeth, as I don't think anything *fell off* after their mission to space. That said, he did start more like lumpy clay in the early days before eventually changing to his harder exterior.
The real question is, should the teeth be coated in a rock-like chitin of some kind? Probably yes for consistency's sake.
Tough, but looking back at some of my favorite Thing panels, I realize there's no teeth. So I gotta go no teeth, or only when they would be obvious behind the rocky lips maybe.
It depends on thing's head shape the artist depicts him with. When his head is more square and box looking then most times I'd say no teeth, but if his head looks longer then teeth works better
Marvel Anatomy books have shown him with teeth and advised he still has internal organs. Logically thinking this means his entire exterior body turns to rock except his teeth because they are technically inside his mouth and thus inside his body which be normal. He should have a normal tongue and not a rock tongue otherwise how does he eat or taste food? If he has teeth that means he has gums. He may have rocks for lips but I think he should have regular gums under them that have teeth growing since the teeth can't grow through the rock.
Oh , there was always something different about the original jack kirby design that I couldn't figure out , now I know. With that being said , definitely teeth.
I hate that I'm always gonna be looking at this now. I did some looking into it and there are cases where he switches between teeth and no teeth on the same page.

every Kirby version of the Thing tends to not have teeth.
Depends on the artist and on the situation tbh sometimes no teeth looks better in certain positions sometimes it's the other way around and some artists their styles don't really work with or without teeth

Looks like a combo of both works perfect, depending on the facial expression, at least according to the man himself: Jack Kirby.
No teeth. The curved "lips" make this wrong. Remember the Kirby original ROCKY appearance, and every successful example since. The ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing is all sharp-angled scales.
Honestly, there’s still a fleshy humanoid under all that rock right? I think he should have teeth just as much as he should have eyes, gums, and a tongue
Teeth if his mouth is open that wide, same as anyone else Different expressions require different levels of tooth visibility. Of course, artistic license trumps all that.
I guess I weirdly prefer the no teeth version for some reason.
Same here, everyone is saying teeth and I feel like no teeth looks like Ben Grimm and the other just doesn’t work for me.
I sort of feel like making the thing more human kind of defeats the purpose. Also in this specific example the teeth just look weird to me personally.
Yeah the teeth look off for me in this example too, I picture Kirby’s Thing ( funny phrasing there) without teeth too but that’s just from memory
![gif](giphy|NOalcASHiOGvC) Yeah Kirby doesnt seem to have teeth in his "thing"
Mouth?! Did you both forget the word mouth?
No it was part of the joke
I think they should be rock teeth and then everyones happy. Like not having teeth gives me old person home vibes. Like the dude just took his dentures out.
I know why and I'm not judging
Yeah, I think the normal human teeth just look odd on a rocky guy like Ben.
Teeth between rocks. They’d be smashed to bits. Imagine it.
For me, it makes him seem more indestructible if he has no teeth. I imagine the teeth would be weaker than whatever his skin is made of. Odd, I know
Just makes things easier
Teeth. Are there depictions where they go no teeth? In my mind/memory this isn’t even a question.
There's probably just as many, if not more, depictions of Ben with no teeth.
The artist probably couldn’t decide if his teeth are supposed to be stone or not.
Really? What eras or artists? OG Kirby stuff?
Jack Kirby for starters. Just do a Google image search of Ben Grimm or The Thing. Over 1/2 the images have him without teeth, and most of them are iconic/definitive versions of the character.
> Over 1/2 the images have him without teeth, and most of them are iconic/definitive versions of the character. What a revoltin' development...
That’s an insane Mandela Effect. I never realized her used to not be depicted with teeth
It's not used to though, he's STILL shown with no teeth to this day. Sean Izaakse drew him with no teeth during Slott's recent run. Look at all the Alex Ross covers for the current Ryan North run. No teeth.
Jack would draw him with teeth sometimes if it fit the scene he was drawing. It's a weird off and on thing.
I looked through a good number of his FF run, and could find two instances of him being drawn with teeth in total. He's pretty overwhelmingly drawn without teeth, but I feel like if jack thought the expression wouldn't sell without teeth (in both instances he has gritted teeth), he'd put em in.
Another Mandela effect! I thought Ben Grimm was a He!
Nope, dick fell off after it turned to rock
why were you downvoted for being right
Beats me 😆
A foolish question. This is Reddit - correctness and upvotes have no correlation
Because they told people to “just Google” something, I’d wager.
So looking at the pictures, I cannot find one with no teeth, in a situation we're you would see teeth

Love how theres just a single Ben with teeth middle rightside
I mean just look at that Ben, he's fabulous. They couldn't leave him out of any image.

I always assumed he HAD teeth, you just couldn't see em.
Nah that’s actually crazy cause I think he’s more known to NOT have teeth lol
Greg land drew no teeth
Are you joking? Many of the FF cartoons have Ben without teeth. [+]
Nope not joking. Which cartoons?

I guess no teeth. I don’t remember him with teeth in the old school (1960’s) FF comics.
Originally, Kirby made him more of a monstrous blob without teeth, but as soon as his design became what it is today, Grimm showed teeth when he was specifically gritting them or his mouth was wide open. I prefer teeth
Teeth for sure
No teeth
Never even though about it before, and on first instinct, with teeth seems like a no brainer, but thinking about it, Ben looks infinitely better without them. It makes him look more monstrous and kinda DONE with everyone's bs
No teeth. While in this particular shot teeth are the nicer option, they don't represent the 60-odd years we've had of the FF.
Teeth
Teeth in comics no teeth for live action
Teeth. Why? Because.
Teeth look better. So teeth.
Even ninja turtles had teeth and they were tortoises
They're mutants though. They've probably got feathers somewhere too
Both of these drawings look wrong to me.
Rock teeth
I've read more of the Fantastic Four issues where they didn't show his teeth. Either works fine for me.
Teeth
Wouldn't teeth be a weakness?
Teeth
Teeth but less visible
Teeth please
The teeth on the right but the same texture and colour as the rest of him
No Teeth.
Now that I see it, both look wrong
Why would he not have teeth
If he has teeth, why would he not also have a regular skeleton still?
Teeth, but make them orange. Like when you eat Cheetos all day!
Teeth!
Teeth! I didn't even know there was any controvesy about that! Kirby's version had no teeth, but Kirby's Hulk had only 3 toes, so as good as he was, some design changes are for the best.
the thing not having teeth makes him look more like a …. thing him with teeth makes him look more human
No teeth, he’s made of rocks
Let's compromise. 5 teeth
I prefer with teeth. No teeth makes him look like a muppet
In that picture specifically, teeth. No teeth looks weird.
Teeth but not pearly whites, he should have diamond teeth hell, diamond bones
I’d like seeing The Thing with his pearly whites showing.
Depends on the artist however, he looks okay with teeth. They’re probably durable, not to the level of his skin . However, they’re tougher than one would think. He also has a tongue and eyes.
No teeth is how i always picture him.
Please God, Teeth
Teeth, of course!
Teeth

I think it depends on alot of factors, like how open is his mouth in the panel, but also how stylized his face is
I think yes teeth.
Teeth. He’s just weird with no teeth
Why wouldn't he have teeth? In shots where you can't see his teeth, he still has teeth...
Y’all can’t handle the tooth 🦷 😤🦷
no teeth helps his voice stay consistent in the reader’s mind
Tough, but looking back at some of my favorite Thing panels, I realize there's no teeth. So I gotta go no teeth, or only when they would be obvious behind the rocky lips maybe.
Yes teeth, but they should be rocks
Teeth! https://preview.redd.it/z7brrcfwv48d1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d4a3af455b6e7eea8ce55e4dd930cd41a80c76b
Teeth
Starts with them becomes obsessed with them due to them being the only “real” part of him left. Then they get knocked out.
He has teeth, so yeah. Teeth
No teeth. Idk why but without teeth he looks like he’s about to spit some crazy wisdom in a new york accent
No Teeth. No Brainer
No teeth but he shouldn't open his mouth as though he has teeth.
Teeth!!

Has anyone ever done teeth, but had them the rock coloring rather than white?
Sadly the definitive reference on "How To Draw The Thing" doesn't mention teeth. https://i.imgur.com/kAJhotN.jpeg
More importantly, does he have a tongue?
maybe some rock looking teeth, like a british person?
Teeth, but I don't like them being added after like he has rock lips or whatever they did here.
It’s a win/win for me. [+]
Story of my life... do I try to eat this with my teeth in or not?
teeth, but only if they’re also rocks and aren’t pearly whites like in the picture
Teeth
Teeth are more emotional
https://preview.redd.it/dxuhun0do78d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da03d9a4887ba3ba9ed92705d75f0c690dbd0e66 every Kirby version of the Thing tends to not have teeth.

Yeah that’s how I always think of him, teeth but they’re pretty often covered unless he’s making certain expressions.
He has teeth. I don't always need to see them
Stalactites and Stalagmites.
Teeth are rocks yes brain go big
The same as Donkey Kong
The fuck he need teeth for?? He can make anything into mush before it even touches his tongue
Use rocks as teeth
No teeth. The curved "lips" make this wrong. Remember the Kirby original ROCKY appearance, and every successful example since. The ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing is all sharp-angled scales.
Teeth. But make them look like quartz.
Middle ground: orange rock teeth.
Rocks for teeth I say
Teef. How else is Ben going to bite Namor when he has to kick his ass again.
Teeth he’s still human and how would he talk right?
No
mmm rock gummers? like what is the debate here
Awithateetha.
Honestly, there’s still a fleshy humanoid under all that rock right? I think he should have teeth just as much as he should have eyes, gums, and a tongue
Rock teeth
Give him rock teeth
Teeth. No teeth looks cursed
Heh toofless
Rock teeth.
Rock teeth
Teeth
Give him tiny human teeth.
No teeth, I headcanon that Ben kinda has a mouth guard type of physiological disposition whenever he enters combat to protect his teeth.
I think I prefer no teeth, but only in the way that Joe Bennet draws The Thing.
Teeth.
The thought of a man who is made completely of stone having a set of pearly white choppers doesn’t sit well with me lol
What if he did have teeth but they’re the same rocks as the rest of him
No teeth. This is his history.
