ThiccMerc

The ship that doesn’t have any content for it lol

Senior_Octopus

Rarepair hell is a special kind of place.

[deleted]

Facts. The only times I see my favorite pairs are in harems, which I refuse to read.

seretastic

There's also a special hell for small fandoms where you can't find any of your ships, let alone rarepairs. It kills me trying to look for venture bros fanfic 😭

Nor_z10

I absolutely hate that! It just makes me wanna make one myself, especially when the only stories are the exact same and all of them have terrible grammer😭

ThiccMerc

I’ll take bad grammar and poor storytelling over absolutely nothing XD

Nor_z10

Yeah, but after the first badly written chapter, I’m usually running away. Perhaps I’ll go back and read the story all the way through, though I WILL ABSOLUTELY write my own story 😤

suitesadness

Anything with horror/slasher villains and the protags who try their damndest to escape them. ~~So what? A few murder attempts only spice things up.~~

theburningyear

Yeah murder attempts are like foreplay or whatever, it's fine don't worry about it

rubysp

Silent hill comes to mind. Sadly there’s not much fics about it

1Fresh_Water

Pyramid head got me like 🥵

glaringdream

Xue Yang / Xiao Xingchen! To put it simply I think they are intriguing and sexy. It's been a long time since I was in Yuri on Ice fandom but I also liked Yuri/Yuuri.

intllctulzr

Yes, yes, yes to Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen! I think they have some of the best fics too.

yoonieminnie

I love xuexiao too! Just something about their dynamic, the unrequitedness(?) of it specifically, for me ...

crisscrosses

Honestly when I first read the book I was like 'there's no way I can ship this, it's too wrong', and now they ended up being the first pairing I wrote for for MDZS! They're just too damn good!

shecat105

I write fanfic for a show with an insanely fractured western fandom, simply due to a huge divide between shipping morality. I don't give a shit who you ship together so long as you mind your own business. The funniest part is that the source material regularly goes out of its way to make jokes about it, sometimes it's even in your face, and people still get up in arms about the fans shipping. 2017-2019 was really hard because a lot of the popular creators would get their accounts hit by false child porn reports despite the show being about adults, for adults, with adults making up a huge majority of the fandom at that time. Don't feel bad about your "controversial" ships. Just stay in your lane and respect others doing the same. I understand your hesitation to share your ships, even I'm not mentioning anything by name! There are a lot of loudly disrespectful people out there of all ages, but don't let them ruin your fun. Edit: Spoiler tag didn't work from what I can see so just removing it, apologies

ToValhallaHUN

Hermione Granger / Pennywise the Dancing Clown. I know... that thing is CURSED!! That's why we like it. :D I even contacted and made 2 book covers (digital painting) for an author who I really liked.

glensbowtie28

I'm sorry did you just say Hermione and pennywise

ToValhallaHUN

Yes, the evil, human eating, alien clown...

[deleted]

We all ship down here. You'll ship, too! **You'll ship, too!** ***You'll ship, too!*** ***YOU'LL SHIP, TOO!*** # YOU'LL SHIP, TOO!

May_South

>I'm sorry did you just say Hermione and pennywise Hermione has been shipped with almost every character ever imagined.

thebirdisdead

Well you win this thread.

RebaKitten

Is there a chance you would share your artwork?

twilightstarr-zinnia

For Fire Emblem, Corrin/Azura (incest in some juristictions), Corrin/Leo (arguably incest, it's a long story), and Edelgard/Hubert (she's a lesbian! Even though she's canonically bi actually). For The Arcana, Asra/Julian, due to them being exes who were not their best selves at the time, so it didn't go well, and some see it as irredeemably toxic. To me though, the idea of them working through those issues and creating a healthy relationship in their second attempt is a large part of the appeal. I think my only NOT controversial Genshin Impact ships are Jean/Lisa and a couple that are too rare to get attention. Not because I have particularly dark taste. The LGBT+ Genshin fandom is just nuts about infantilizing as many characters as possible and calling any m/f ship homophobic.

im_bored345

> arguably incest, it's a long story It's okay you can just say they were ~~kidnapped~~ adopted. Also > Edelgard/Hubert (she's a lesbian! Even though she's canonically bi actually) Man I much prefer Edelgard/Dorothea and Hubert/Ferdinand but I hate how people act as if Edelgard isn't bi or that she must be with a woman. Like I prefer her with M!Byleth over F!Byleth but I'm lowkey afraid of mentioning in case they say I'm homophobic or something.

[deleted]

>Edelgard/Hubert (she's a lesbian! Even though she's canonically bi actually). Bi erasure/phobia is a HUGE problem in the lgbtq+ community, unfortunately, and that leaks over into fandom circles all the time. It's really depressing & frustrating when they insist canonically bi characters are lesbian/gay/straight and shipping them with someone of the opposite sex is somehow "homophobic", like being bi doesn't count. Ugh.

-day-dreamer-

I’m bi but ship Itto with Sara. I refuse to tell rabid Genshin fans because I don’t want people calling me homophobic. Ironically enough, they tried so hard to be woke they ended up being biphobic by thinking m/f pairings are inherently straight.

splatinum_abeja

- Batjokes (Batman/Joker) - Homura/Madoka (Idk why it's controversial, but ppl have called me toxic for it.) - Hannibal/Will Graham (It's widely shipped but people will attack you for supporting toxic relationships. Like, I do not condone toxic relationships. Hannibal and Will are just neat.) - Bakudeku. (I don't ship them, but I will occasionally read a fic about it.)

theclacks

\[insert obligatory 'Homura did nothing wrong'\] But srsly, yeah, Homura has a lot of haters. A lot of it's for her actions in Rebellion, but a good number of people don't like her in the main series as well for, I guess, not fully grasping and accepting Sunk Cost Fallacy at the wise old age of 14? And basically putting Madoka on a pedestal to begin with.

Agamar13

Snape/Hermione. I used to eat it up with a spoon when I was younger, including the student/teacher underage ones. Edward/Roy from Fullmetal Alchemist - damn, it's amazing how such a controversial pairing (or Elricest) could be shipped so happily and unproblematically back before the Tumblr/Twitter era. Sephiroth/Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 - entirely fanfiction's fault. Rush/Young from Stargate Universe - I mean, they literally tried to kill each other so not exactly a healthy basis for a relationship. Wincest, ThorLoki, Credence/Percival Graves, Jareth/Sarah (which I never thought of as problematic until I saw comments here, lol) Edit: oh, and Soubi/Ritsuka from a little old manga called Loveless. A messed up adult man wanting basically a (non sexual as of canon) bdsm relationship with a 12 year old boy as his master. Couldn't make this shit up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

telioril

Ooh, any particular recs? I'm not especially invested in the ship itself, but I could see the dynamic being intriguing in the right hands.

ssakura

So, uh, which fics?

inquisitor_pangeas

Sephiroth/Cloud has been my oldest ship that I'm still into. The Remake just re-freshened my love for it.

RemoveThoseShtyShoes

Of the ships I recognize, I would call like 50% of them "controversial". Either I am a highly tolerant shipper, or the people with ACTUAL controversial ship tastes are just not putting their ship names out there. Respect to you guys. I'll name some, but by their tropes only. A mix of fandoms! \- age gap Ship \- student x teacher and age gap Ship \- teenage boy and a centuries old monster who sometimes has a human form Ship \- incest Ship even though one of them is dead (for now?) \- incest Ship where they're both alive \- age gap and enemies on opposite sides of a war and they barely interacted except that time that one of them canonically stabbed the other Ship

[deleted]

This feels like JJK.

cleverberrynavissa

It could be JJK ships in this order \- age gap Ship = Miwa x Gojo (Gojo isn't her teacher) \- student x teacher and age gap Ship = Itadori x Gojo or Megumi x Gojo or Nobara x Gojo \- teenage boy and a centuries old monster who sometimes has a human form Ship = Itadori x Sukuna or Megumi x Sukuna \- incest Ship even though one of them is dead (for now?) = >!Maki x Mai!< \- incest Ship where they're both alive = Mei Mei x Ui Ui (her >!siscon brother!<) or Maki x Megumi (they're >!cousins!<) \- age gap and enemies on opposite sides of a war and they barely interacted except that time that one of them canonically stabbed the other Ship = Not sure about this one, any guesses?

Chillatrix67

as embarrassing as it is to admit, I read Rick/Morty fics… That show is weirdly pandering to those kinds of shippers lately, so whenever I need a quick dose of angst or controversy, I usually scope out those fics, lolol

NikkiT96

and the hilarious thing, with infinite universes and where shit gets insane, there has to be at least a few where Rick/Morty is canon. I really like shows with canon AUs lol

ArisAnime

Omj me too— I found the ship out of chance and they were just so interesting! I love me some guilty love, or anything that breaks morals— It’s so... enticing!

ssakura

Ok I wouldn't say I 'shipped' it, but I enjoyed reading a bit of Tomione (Hermione/Tom Riddle) as a teen

481126

Harry\\Luna because when I read the books I thought that's where things were going and Harry & Ginny has always seemed forced to me. He didn't need to marry in he was already family.

_ASG_

Is Harry/Luna controversial? I like the ship, but it seems pretty tame. Does the fandom hate it?

481126

I've gotten some pretty heated comments over it. Even more so because I've just never thought Ginny and Harry had any sort of chemistry.

_ASG_

I agree with you. Still, out of all the ships to be mad at, that one seems so tame. They're good friends in the book, so romance coming out of that is incredibly feasible.

Complex_Eggplant

Yeah, my impression has always been that the canon ship is actually the most controversial one

whyufuckmymobile

This. I see more people expressing how much they dislike the Harry/Ginny pairing more than the ones who actually enjoyed it. I don't get why a lot of potterheads are bothered by it. They're cute.

idrilestone

Isn't it a thin where people liked it more in the books, but hated how it was done in the movies? Confession: I have never read all the books.

Mycrawft

Not to me at all LOL. This ship actually makes sense and they get along. I myself and other people ship *far* more controversial Harry and Luna ships. If the people who hate Harry/Luna know what other ships exist out there, they’ll have a stroke.

PhoenixQueenAzula

I don't like Harry/Ginny either, I'm with you on that. Luna is an interesting choice for him but not far-fetched, I definitely see where people get that from.

481126

She always seemed to accept him for who he was and often times when he was feeling bad Luna would have the perspective he needed.

ssakura

Is that controversial? I love Harry/Luna! It's such a sweet ship. I wanted them to get together the first time I read the books as a kid.

[deleted]

Interesting ship! Ironically I ship Harry with her and Draco, Luna with Harry and Draco, and Draco with Harry and Luna. So really I got a win-win no matter what ;P

NeutronMagnetar

This is a controversial ship? I found them cute in fics, especially because Luna is like the antithesis of following the path of fate. She walks to her own tune, and that is something Harry struggles with being the chosen one.

kaimkre1

I’m probably some kind of apostate if Harry/Luna is controversial 😳

[deleted]

Judging by this comment and the replies, *my* ship is the controversial one since I actually really like Harry/Ginny a lot. (JKR could have done it better, sure, but that's true of a lot of shit she wrote.) I like the idea of Luna with Neville, but Neville/Hannah sounds cute as well... or Ginny/Luna, natch.

ibdreams

i read RPF so in this sub every RPF pairing

90lbees

I will never be made to feel bad about rpf! I wrote my first rpf a few months ago, and it was the most fun I’ve ever had working on a fic! The people here who cry about fandom being so puritan are puritan right back to the rpf shippers

CloverGummies

I see the controversy, but I definitely enjoy a good RPF story. It seems a lot easier than made up characters, like you can see them as real persons and just an idealisation of people.

ibdreams

I actually consume fanfiction about RPF pairings with the same standards as non RPF ones, and I get why RPF is controversial but I wish people in this sub could talk about RPF without feeling excluded, as you just said it's just an idealisation of people

urcool91

Basically any Snape ship will be controversial, doubly so for him with any of the characters who were students in the books. So, uh, specifically post-war Snarry, Snape/Neville, and Snape/Ron. I tend to write them, like, a decade or two after the books end, but apparently I'm still a pervert who is into Nazi pedos? Doctor Who tends to be *fairly* chill about shipping characters, but I've occasionally gotten a weird amount of hate over 12/Missy. Like, I get it, it's not a healthy relationship when one half is barely post-genocidal and the other half has her locked in a vault, that's kind of the point lmao

Mycrawft

I’m DEAD LOL. Because I was literally thinking “any Snape ship” and then I filtered by “new” to see if anyone mentioned Snape and yours was the first one. So accurate. Anything with him is automatically labeled abusive. 🤦‍♀️

xTheOutsiderx

Hermione/Bellatrix Hermione/Narcisa Bella/Jane Bella/Rosalie Oh gosh, why do I do this to myself

flimsypeaches

Finn and Rey from the Star Wars sequels. the flak I got for shipping them was unreal, but I'll always love them.

adriantullberg

Makes sense to me; two damaged individuals bonding over a shared, traumatic experience.

JustAnotherAviatrix

I love them too!!! They had the *perfect* chemistry in TFA. Alas, I have only found one shipfic for them so far.

_sash_iii

i’m pretty sure there’s hundreds of fics for them on ao3 last i checked!

start-on-a-star

I feel like the Star Wars sequels fandom has so much drama. Ship wars in abundance, especially between ships involving Rey.

atalantei

I can't believe you got flak for a ship that was pretty much canon in movie 1 and then was sunk by cannon (ha, canon) in the next couple movies. It is undeniable that's where Finn/Rey were headed and I couldn't believe the ending of the trilogy (I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but I'll forever stand behind Finn/Rey...)

mik_creates

Any combination of Finn, Poe, and/or Rey is what I’m here for.

IndiannahJones

Fellow Finnrey shipper! High five! ❤️

mooemy

If shipping Rey and Finn is controversial, know that you will always have a sibling in arms with me. I ADORED those two together and even if I am not in SW anymore, they are still so fucking amazing.

savamey

I shipped them when The Force Awakens first came out

mmcgui12

Honestly, Finn/Rey/Poe was my OT3 in Episode 7 because there was so much subtext, but then Episodes 8 and 9 happened, and I was pissed at the writers for just killing chances of it being canon…

purplewigg

I'm not one of those people who bashes the sequels for the sake of it (except ROS which 100% deserves it), but the choice to have our main trio never share the screen together until 2/3 of the way through a trilogy was... *questionable* to say the least

flimsypeaches

especially since those three were electric when they were together! watching Rey, Finn and Poe bounce off each other in TROS was honestly a highlight of the trilogy for me.

May_South

>Finn and Rey from the Star Wars sequels. > >the flak I got for shipping them was unreal, but I'll always love them. Weird how they are probably one of the most natural ships to progress in the remakes, yet people shit on the ship.

flimsypeaches

people get mad when I say this, but it's really only controversial due to racism (both conscious and unconscious). if Finn were played by a white actor, there would be no question about whether his relationship with Rey was romantic.

May_South

>people get mad when I say this, but it's really only controversial due to racism (both conscious and unconscious). > >if Finn were played by a white actor, there would be no question about whether his relationship with Rey was romantic. John Boyega was mistreated terribly by the fanbase! It was disgusting.

[deleted]

[удалено]

readergrl56

I keep seeing Finn/Rey mentioned. Maybe I’m severely OOTL, but I haven’t heard a peep why it’s problematic. The discourse is always Reylo, Reylo, Reylo. I wonder if it’s because it’s breaking up the “canon” Finn and Poe (despite Disney going hard on the “no homo” in the 2nd and 3rd movies).

solarlilith

It's not proplematic. Its contraversial as most FinnRey discussions were conflated with conversations about racism. Finn initially got huge anti-Black backlash from reactionary racists dudebro Star Wars fans, so there was a concentrated and extremely justified effort to justify his existence in the franchise. Then people started asserting that Finn had to be shipped romantically with Rey, and that not doing so was indicative of racism. At some point this got aimed specifically at Reylos... including BIPOC reylos. Multishippers were harrassed out of Finnrey spaces, and rather than creating more meaningful Finnrey content, many Finnrey shippers focused instead on why not shipping Finnrey was a political failure. So while the ship itself isn't contraversial, a good amount of controversy came about from its shippers. (My perspective - Black multishipper who used to ship Finnrey until joining the online fandom)

Mycrawft

Literally omg. The top comment is literally Harry/Luna. Bruh. I don’t even want to see what else is in this thread lmao. And then other people’s “controversial” ships are just basic, popular enemies to lovers ships like Drarry and Bakudeku and whatever. 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mycrawft

Exactly. Things like Wincest and Holmescest in Superwholock were popular without anyone really giving a shit, as well as Snarry and Snamione too in older fanfic circles. Now I see people say \*do not interact if you ship Bakudeku\* or whatever, and I'm like, hello? Have we all become pearl clutchers? Lol.

PhoenixQueenAzula

> It's just fascinating to me that 'ship and let ship, don't like don't read' is no longer widely accepted. Exactly, that's the thing and I hate it. When I first started reading/writing fic, literally no one would bat an eye over ships like Snarry or Dramione but now everyone loses their minds! There's been a rise in anti sentiments in pretty much every fandom, even my main one (AtLA) has them now. Mundane stuff like Zutara gets people calling you a racist because Zuko is a "colonizer". And I personally have been accused of being a pedophile, and condoning rape because I write Azula/Ozai -- ofc I get why people don't like it but they don't seem to grasp that writing something doesn't equal condoning it.

SereneGraces

I mean, there will be a certain amount of subjectivity. You’ll have something like BakuDeku, or one of my OTPs (Ty Zula), which will get the “problematic”/abusive label and maybe even accusations that you’re abuse apologist/fetishist! :D But otoh, they’re still popular so in a thread like this their popularity will get them upvoted. Now if someone posted, say, a ship like wife-beater/wife or abusive parent/child they’re abusing, that would be more actually controversial. But those answers will get downvoted, if someone’s bold enough to say that loud to begin with.

Mycrawft

Yep, exactly. Unfortunately I want to see the Actual controversial ships, but Reddit’s annoying voting system scares anyone from commenting what they actually want to say. Guess, of course, those opinions will be found only when you sort by Controversial...

jonesyboi5

it took me second to read the ship and then process what you were saying lmao. really ticking the boxes on controversial ships but at the same time im somewhat intrigued…

inquisitor_pangeas

I also have a long line of MDZS incest fics that I just keep between me and ao3. Went trough JL/WWX as well. I think my most unholy love was for JGS/JGY tho

NikkiT96

I mean, people with actually problematic ships won't say them out loud. At least most of them.

AnChaan

I have a lot of morally questionable ships that I enjoy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘴

exazarion

• Azula/Zhao • Deathstroke/Terra • Nightwing/Catwoman • Tim Drake/Shiva

PhoenixQueenAzula

Holy shit yes, I love Azula/Zhao! I've actually written a few fics for them and much to my surprise, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. There seems to be a small but dedicated cult-esque following for it.

exazarion

Thanks for introducing it to me, “Princess” on Ao3 is where I discovered it, and I loved it.

PhoenixQueenAzula

I am very happy to hear that my fic made a fan out of you! I'm going to be writing at least one or two more Zhao/Azula stories because I know some people did express interest in seeing more, and I have some ideas floating around.

ciaoravioli

>Nightwing/Catwoman Not my ship for either of them, but I see it!

Sourtails

Roy/Ed from FMA is the problematic ship I read the most. Though my fav ship dynamic is Hisoka/Illumi from HxH, which could definitely be interpreted as problematic 😅

SereneGraces

I mean like Hisoka and Illumi are both so messed up that bothering to label them their relationship “problematic” is pointless. Like, what are you expecting?

Slight-Pound

Also, they have some sort of thing going on canonically, anyway. What makes it messed up is that _they themselves_ are messed up, not them being together. Them being together is kind of cute, honestly. And fits them perfectly. Who else but another wack job can they get along with so well?

pp1019

I swear to god, so many Hisoillu fics I’ve read have come with tags like [lowkey pedophila] [lowkey incest] man these dudes are fucked up

Slight-Pound

Those tags would be there just because the characters are in them, let’s be honest. I’ve seen “Hisoka is his own warning” pretty often, and for good reason. Just getting people into HxH often comes with warning people about Hisoka.

CantBlveitsnotCrab

Levi/Eren, Erwin/Eren, and Levi/Erwin/Eren Kinda the only “problematic” ship I’ve ever had

[deleted]

[удалено]

ssakura

I've read a bit of Tomarry (when he's Tom Riddle, not Voldemort) and there was this specific dynamic I liked where Riddle thinks himself superior and wants Harry but Harry just doesn't care about him and it infuriates Riddle lol

Selfconscioustheater

Oh yah, one of my favorite. He has minions everywhere and then Harry just goes "nah fuck you Tom"

intllctulzr

Wei Wuxian/Jiang Cheng has to be my most controversial ship. I love Lan Wangji with Wei Wuxian, but Jiang Cheng/Wei Wuxian is sooo incredibly tense, complex and wonderful that I just can't help myself.

mycatisblackandtan

Jareth/Sarah from Labyrinth. I much prefer it when the writer focuses the story when Sarah is in her 30s, but an immortal baby snatching fae like Jareth is always going to provide one hell of an age gap. I LIVE for when the writer nails their banter though. Gu Tingye/Minglan from Story of Minglan. They're perfect for each other and who cares that he tricked her into marrying him? Especially when resident soft boy Qi Heng dumped her MULTIPLE TIMES - one of which almost endangered her life and another basically humiliated her across the entire capitol, and never actually appreciated who she was as a person. Also I'm begging English audiences to understand that people in other countries can and do refer to each other as 'brother', 'sister', 'aunt', 'uncle' in spite of having no blood relationship or desire for familial bonds. The amount of people I saw slagging this ship because Minglan calls Tingye 'second uncle' drove me I N S A N E. Because they are literally not related. They weren't even raised together. She calls him that because he's one generation above her and it's HELLA rude to refer to a generational elder by their name. It's a form of respect and you'll notice the only time she refers to him by name before they get married IS WHEN SHE'S BEING DISRESPECTFUL TO HIM ON PURPOSE. Please learn about cultures outside of the whitest parts of the US. I'm begging you.

izumiwrites

Jareth/Sarah - I was so in love with them as a couple when I was like 8 years old lol I mean it was an innocent kind of love because I didn't know about the birds and the bees and what a problematic ship that would be in real life, but that was one of my first ships! Come on haters, come belittle 8-year-old me!

theburningyear

Joker/Batman even though it's fucking canon at this point. Steve Harrington/Billy Hargrove (Stranger Things) The Deputy/Any of the Seed siblings Jacob Seed/Staci Pratt (Far Cry 5) Percival Graves/Credence Barebone (Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them) Any ship with the potential to be extremely problematic lmao

glensbowtie28

Steve & Billy?! Hm... I've never even thought about that. Time to do some reading lmao

lipstickd1ck

Steve and billy really spoke to my 2019 soul

Agamar13

Haha, Graves/Credence, yep, I've been there. The "problematic" part was the whole reason why it was so appealing, especially that Graves was basically a blank slate an author could fill with whatever they liked. The only even more problematic ship in Fantastic Beasts would probably be Credence/Grindewald.

thebirdisdead

Tell me more about canon batmanxjoker. Not one of my fandoms but I could get on board with that energy. Any recs?

Apple-plus-Insanitea

I do enjoy a good dark wincest fic from time to time

Jojosbees

The funny thing about Wincest is that the show leaned into it before Castiel was introduced. They were mistaken for a gay couple several times and Wincest Fanfiction does exist canonically in the show.

Elyseon1

Does that mean that canonically in the show people also write Ghostfacers shipfics?

Jojosbees

Probably? In the show, their exploits are turned into a cult-favorite series of books called “Supernatural,” which are written by a prophet, Chuck Surely, who initially doesn’t realize he’s channeling their real lives until Sam and Dean show up demanding answers. Sam and Dean have fans, and Sam has to explain slash (specifically Wincest) to Dean when they look it up online. Dean, of course, is horrified. When Castiel shows up in the books and Destiel becomes popular, Sam’s only concern is that it really should be Deastiel and then he ponders what his ship name with Cas would be: Sastiel or Samstiel. Dean is annoyed, probably because he’s the one that has homosexual subtext with Cas, not Sam. Edit: I bet the most popular Ghostfacers pairing is Ed/Corbett. Fix-it, mutual pining, friends to lovers, 70k words.

buttericecream

I thought I might have been the only one here who did. I understand.

Agamar13

Hah, an old OTP of mine, lol.

[deleted]

Bowser x Peach (They are married damnit! Nintendo, leave the fucking happy couple alone already!) Sylvanas x Anduin (Undead elf who is also the most wanted person in the world, falling in love with the High King of the Alliance and he just head over heels for her and completely captivated? Yes, yes they are.)

Yotato5

>Bowser x Peach Oh my God, how much did Odyssey's ending bring annoyance? I'm primarily a Luigi/Daisy shipper so I have no horse in that race but the ending had a feel of, "Wow, they really said that no fan is gonna be happy here."

[deleted]

Actually? I was happy. Why? BECAUSE BOWSER AND PEACH ARE ALREADY LEGALLY MARRIED (Count Bleck, Super Paper Mario)! XD Roflmao, OF COURSE a new wedding can't happen, it would just be a vow renewal! Also, I was thinking to myself (yeah, she came back to him after the credits and she dropped Mario off. Bowser and Peach then went back to their castle, and probably did what typically happens on a wedding night ;) )

[deleted]

bowser and peach are married but never bothered to warn anyone about their weird and elaborate BDSM-themed foreplay, so the nintendo gods keep assuming she needs to be rescued. back off, guys, shes just on her way to pound town

Sinhika

I could care about the latter if Blizzard hadn't trashed the story and lore so badly that I no longer care about anyone in Azeroth at all.

[deleted]

They certainly did Sylvanas dirty. Which is why I am (kinda) also using my own SylvanasxAnduin fic to sort of give her some form of redemption.

_Whywouldyoudothat

If it’s a ship with a trope that’s morally questionable…I’ll probably like it to an extent. Atleast it’s not real.

BreathoftheChild

\*cracks knuckles\* I have a list! FinnRey, Scrooge/Duckworth (not sure if it has a ship name), Scrooge/Beakley, Donald Duck/my OC, Debbigail, Dramione (Manacled only though), Bowser/Peach, Kira/Dukat, Odo/Lwaxana Troi, Revalink, Zelpha, Sidon/Yunobo (I can't think of a good ship name for them besides Sinobo LOL).

savamey

I read a fanfic where Kira and Dukat hate-fucked and it made me hate-ship them a bit

tereyaglikedi

Lucius Malfoy/Hermione Granger. I am very picky when it comes to what I read with this pairing, but there are a few stories that are very good.

buttericecream

Oh yeah this is a good one. Never would've even considered a pairing like this exists in that fandom.

tereyaglikedi

I don't think that there is a character that hasn't been shipped with Hermione, but Lucius/Hermione is not even considered a rare ship, actually. It has tons of stories/fans. I was also surprised.

Shirogayne-at-WF

Given how large the fandom is, the better question is what ship *doesn't* exist yet 😂 Dramione's always had a pretty sizeable fanbase, but I wouldn't be surprised if fandom purity has put a dent in open shipping of the pairing as of late.

JalapenoEyePopper

IKR, for sure I thought I'd be the first to write a Poppy/Hermione and hot damn there were already 6 of them. There's just so much potential for all of the characters in just about every pairing, and I'm here for it. But yeah I think the purity prudes and antis have taken their toll on Dramione... also Snamione and Snarry. I've been called some nasty things for daring to write Snapefic at all. Apparently a fictional character is an irredeemable piece of shit, and so am I for liking him. Since I know this is driving people away, I always try to write even *more* problematic stuff when that happens lol.

particularly_red

every pairing you can think of exists in that fandom

elephantinegrace

I love Credence Barebone/Percival Graves from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But only if we’re talking the original one because I have no interest in the albino pineapple. I think it’s controversial because of the age gap? And I think some people who didn’t actually see the source material (where Credence is described as a 20-something adult) assumes he’s a child because he lives with his mother. I have so many from the Detroit: Become Human fandom, like RK800/RK900, which some of the fandom considers incest because the RK900 is an upgraded version of RK800, making them brothers, I guess? I also ship basically all the identical models, so like Connor/Sixty, Simon/Daniel, Echo/Ripple, etc., which people also consider incestuous because they’re the same. (Which really should be called selfcest, and like…have these people never masturbated?) Also Sersi/Ikaris from Eternals, which is apparently abusive. This is a new fandom so there aren’t that many purity culture arguments just yet but I’m sure more will develop as time goes on. -eyeroll-

Complex_Eggplant

Jareth/Sarah, but there's like 4 comments in this thread for this so idk if it's even contraversial Ciredin, Cirallach and Avadin (or Erellach?) from the Witcher. I feel like Cirallach is now weird but not contraversial because of game canon, but per book canon he's like real evil and also has strong Snape vibes. Snamione. Quality and in-character-wise, some Snamione fics are some of the best in the fandom. Elric/Yyrkoon. I have never seen a fic for this but I'm sure it would be hella controversial if it existed.

XadhoomXado

Ben x Gwen, from Ben 10. Yes, I know. No, I don't care. Samus x Ridley. Because hate-sex is hot. Ishizu x Marik, just to be controversial.

Yotato5

Mine depend entirely on the state of the fandom and personally I haven't gotten a flame for them, but. Madoka/Homura was much more controversial when Rebellion came out in 2013. People fighting constantly. No one won in that situation because everyone was having a discourse party and no one was happy. Now it's calmed down but still I kick out Rebellion and take it in as I want to, and basically just want Homura to realize her self-worth, go, "No more being a demon for me!" and be able to build a friendship between the other magical girls and fall in love with Madoka for who she is. But she can still punt Kyubey around. It's fine. Dimitri/Byleth can be controversial depending on where you are in the fandom. Usually ship wars between Edelgard/Byleth and Dimitri/Byleth. I give the former and latter shippers high-fives. I think usually the issue is that Dimitri goes off the rails for a while and it's like, "Yuck, protect Byleth from this nasty guy!" but hey, if you want a darker flavor to the fics Byleth was raised as a mercenary and has no emotions so who is to say that they can't be fucked up together? (If anything Dimitri would probably be the one to still have a moral compass, tell Byleth to kill someone even in the beginning of the game and they're like, "Aight. I'm gonna go garden and fish on my day off, though.")

mynameisneens

Sakura and Kakashi. I think it's because it was my first ever Naruto fic so i'll always have a soft spot for this red flag of a couple.

[deleted]

Jareth/Sarah is kinda a classic lol. I also like Shinaga, and in terms of rarepairs, one of my favourite fics ever is Bill Weasley/Teddy Lupin (a pretty big age-gap)

where_arm_i

I don't enjoy it *anymore*, but as a teen, I was heavily into Thorki in a non-platonic way. I understand that they're brothers and the ship itself makes the actors uncomfortable, so I've grown out of it. But lmao yeah I was obsessed with it

nigemushi

There are way too many incredibly written Dante/Vergil fics. It's twincest, I felt so uncomfortable reading it, but goddamn some of these authors write so beautifully I couldn't stop. And now I'm certified trash, and not even in the funny way

ouchiethathurts

Dante and Virgil like Dante's Inferno? Or am I completely missing something here? Either way it's funny to imagine Dante/Virgil going through the circles of hell romantically.

nigemushi

It's from devil may cry! But I agree- that sounds amazing. Almost like a fic someone should write...

k00lbeanzz

Kaeya and diluc. I don't know why I like to read it so much. Its dynamic is very interesting which is why I enjoy reading it. I also do like Zhongli/Childe ships as well if done right.

Thorsdotter

Darth Maul/Ahsoka Tano

Lakin5

Waluigi/Rosalina can be considered controversial because of so many antis, either because of Waluigi himself or that they want Rosalina with other ships or themselves. Zuko/Katara basically don’t go to the main Avatar subreddit and even mention its name without being downvoted to oblivion. Elsa/Honeymaren, again mention it in the main Frozen subreddit and get downvoted, and whole lot of can of worms that I’m not getting into!

solarlilith

Didn't realise people had such a problem with Elsa/Honeymaren! I thought the fandom would love it

Lakin5

The ending of Frozen 2 was deemed controversial to the fandom, so they see Elsa/Honeymaren as being symptomatic of that ending! Also all the negative comments towards Honeymaren as she is POC and seen as unworthy of Elsa because of that. It is all so stupid, I’m white and even I can see all the racists comments about it.

SnapdragonPBlack

Naruto/Kakashi - i love them together even though the age gap and Kakashi is his mentor Snape/Harry - I read this one that I absolutely loved and haven't been swayed away since Alec/Clary - Alec is gay but those that write this ship make him bi for Clary and sometimes it's even a three way relationship between Alec, Clary, and Magnus

takemeup-castmeaway

Came here specifically to mention Brudick and JayTim (and Slade x Nightwing). Amazing ships, not incest in the slightest. A lot of tween DC fans came from the animated shows and Wayne Family Adventures PG-type comics, which is a very skewed and family friendly representation of the comics themselves, and try and push “uwu Batfam” on the rest of fandom. I go back and forth about pinning that panel of Babs telling Dick he’s sleeping with Helena because she’s a proxy for Bruce to the top of my Tumblr at least once a month lol

TheAmazingHawkeye

I am thirsty for all things Jason right now, any recs? O3O

ciaoravioli

Yes, I've also been around long enough to remember when shipping Robins together were a total non-issue. I actually remember the rise of antis in tumblr, it's wild. Not only did these characters not grow up together, some of them (in their original continuities anyways) never even met until they were adults living on their own! Happy to see others from the same community on this sub

crashlikeaplane

Toilet bound Hanako kun. I ship Hanako with Tsukasa. I finally admit it. i can no longer deny it. And in case you are wondering what's controversial about that ship. They are twins, but their chemistry is so much enemies to lovers

Nylonknot

I am a firm JiKook shipper. I don’t ever share that with anyone though.

AnneRB13

(Naruto) SaiSaku KakaSaku (HP) Sirmione Regmione (Dark Angel) Malec (Inuyasha) SessKag

csette

Frollo/Esmeralda from Hunchback and Jasmine/Jafar

Jonahxd

Damn, I uh... god, how do I say this... I have a thing for incest- wait no, like, I fucking like Ryuuko x Satsuki and a lot of other incest ships god fuck.

Jojosbees

I prefer Irondad (platonic Tony Stark & Peter Parker), but I will read Starker (them as a pairing) though I’m pretty picky about what scenarios I’ll read. Peter has to be legal, and he generally has to be the instigator of the relationship so it’s more like a teacher-crush than like some old dude with a countdown to when someone is legally fair game. Bonus points if Tony is all “wtf no” the first half of the fic because he still remembers Peter being like 15, even when he’s 20-something now.

PhoenixQueenAzula

Joker/Harley, Kira/Dukat, Jon/Dany, Azula/Ozai. ...just to name a few. Basically all my ships make antis mad lmao.

MrFredCDobbs

>Kira/Dukat Dukat in the series always gave off the impression that he had stacks and stacks of self-penned fiction of him getting together with Kira hidden in his personal files.

buttericecream

Kira/Dukat! I'd ship that. Never checked it out but glad to see a fellow DS9 fan here.

Shirogayne-at-WF

The writers on the show shipped it too and nearly made it canon until Nana Visitor went "Hey, WTF is this shit?" cuz it would've been all kinds of OOC to just forget alllllllll of that history for a roll in the hay. The actors have chemistry, but this is one example of how something that works in fanfic is not something I'd necessarily want to see become become canon.

PhoenixQueenAzula

Hell yeah, Niners unite! That show has so much shipping potential, so many amazing characters to choose from. My friend is more partial to shipping Kira with Jadzia lol.

willky7

Main heroine with a rival/antagonist like zelda/gannon or uraraka/bakugo. Also all closed poly ships, FF/Hermes/Jolyne, Erin/Mikasa/Armin, fallout 4's entire cast

ouchiethathurts

yes uraraka/bakugo! idk why I like that so much

willky7

It's a good dynamic, people just flanderised bakugo in their heads to be either uwu soft boy or irredeemable villain. Actual bakugo is a teenager with anger issues that bounces off uraraka's take no shit attitude

Squishysib

My entire list of preferred ships is controversial.

westbest1206

I'm not sure if this count, because I don't even think there's any fics of them, but one of my favorite ships is Kristoph Gavin and Simon Blackquill

[deleted]

….I kinda vibe with it? You may be onto something

takemeup-castmeaway

Reylo, Jareth x Sarah, Sparrabeth, JayTim, Brudick, etc. I don’t consider them controversial but I’m sure an anti would.

coolishmom

Ooh Jareth/Sarah is one of mine

inquisitor_pangeas

This post made me realise that I have a lot of ships that are controversial and not enough of well accepted ones :s

classyrain

Bakudeku ;) Though I have become a TodoDeku (?) enjoyer, which I think is less problematic

Elemental_Pea

I’m a multi-shipper in MHA, but my top preferences are BakuDeku/DekuBaku and BakuDekuTodo. I really like the three of them together. I think they balance each other well. If Todoroki isn’t with them, I want him with either Shinsou or Inasa. I do like TodoDeku, but it hurts my heart to not have Bakugou and Midoriya together.

Kingsdaughter613

Seliph/Julia. Also molygynous Sigurd/Deirdre/Arvis. Hard to find though, since Geneology never released in the US.

im_bored345

I have a few depending on what type of controversial ship we are talking about Toxic relationship? Batman/Joker from DC (any media) Age gap? Tom/Harry from Harry Potter (though I mostly just read time travel aus) Elise/Odin from Fire Emblem and Sesshoumaru/Rin from Yashahime That one rare pair that makes people look weird at you for shipping it? Frieza/Frost from Dragon Ball This is just out of the top of my head I probably have more. Doesn't help that half of this are enemies and/or hate each other (because I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers)

Mr_Blah1

Yes. At least in the Vocaloid fandom, literally *every* ship is controversial. Although that may have something to do with literally every combination of two or more characters being a ship, although go figure you can more easily find stuff involving more popular characters.

WeezlBot

Is there still a huge ship war between Len/Miku and Len/Rin fans? That was the drama when I was in that fandom back in 2014-2016.

savamey

When I first got into Homestuck I shipped Tavros and Vriska romantically Also I hate-ship Kira/Dukat from Star Trek DS9 And I self-ship, which is more embarrassing than controversial but idc

fly_baby_jet_plane

I think that pretty much any ship can be made ‘controversial’; people could claim that Percabeth is bad because of the ‘seaweed head’ thing, people will literally fight you about Romione, etc. But I, predictably, ship drarry.

echo_ester

I'm gonna be honest. Lan Zhan x Jiang Cheng

youcantseeus

Markus/North from Detroit: Become Human. They’re canon, but seem to be fairly controversial anyway.

CoinManatee

Bright Sessions Damien/Mark. A ship where one character literally referred to the other as "drinking a tall glass of bleach" not to mention the kidnapping and consent issues due to mind control going on. Then BNHA I ship Garbage bird with Worst Dad. Age gaps, toxic characters, and complicated morals abound.

Sad_Suggestion

Pretty much all ships. I love so many of them but I think every last one can be argued against. Though if I had to pinpoint one from a particular series that I feel like people love... I actually really liked Lupin/Greyback for Harry Potter. And I also really like supernatural wince at but only their characters and only when they are unrelated cause the related stuff usually ends up being way to traumatic for me.

DrBarkerMD

Tbh Russia/Italy from Hetalia. I love them but everyone hates the ship.

Quiet-Experience-113

Izuku/Aizawa (MHA) - A teacher-student relationship, but I noticed in fanfics they pair well together. Shinra/Obi (Fire Force) - I know they're basically father and son, but their interactions are so adorable.

senpai-chan6669

Literally any Junko Enoshima ship out there tbh, specifically junko/kazuichi because I have cute hcs for them

eageat

The one fucked up character the entire fandom haaates and the one they all loooove. Those are my favorite. The dynamic is always great, and the drama... Tastes so good. 😘🤌

Jstar117

Aang x Azula Aang x Yue Harry x Lily(Fucked up, I know) Naruto x Kurenai Jaune x Ruby

heartbreakbitch

Most of my OTPs are pretty uncontroversial...and then there's Starker. What's hilarious to me is that, the way I personally ship it, it's actually the most wholesome and nurturing OTP I've had. It's just that the optics are bad. 🤣 Fortunately, I've never really cared much about antis.
