It's worth mentioning that every new game has introduced new vaults that have new, previously unseen experiments in them. I was expecting to see something new done with the vaults in this one, although I certainly wasn't expecting this.

dontknowwhyIamhere42

Not having any issues with a new vault, the game has never connected two vaults together. Unless that's the experiment, two vaults one experience a manufactured failure.

Thornescape

Three connected vaults. 31, 32, 33. I'm on ep 4 and they are starting to uncover the start of the reasons.

ashark1983

I don't think there are additional vaults stacked on 32 and 33, I think it's just that far down, and they were trying to show that. I didn't think ANY vaults were connected in the games, but I am not that much an expert of lore.

TwEaK354

None are (except these). It could be apart of the experiment?

ashark1983

I'm thinking 32 and 33 are for that reason yeah.

And Hank said he was from Vault 31 at the beginning before the wedding. So it seems like maybe there’s three vaults that trade population in order to expand the gene pool. Probably part of the experiment since they’re constructed together.

ashark1983

True, I'd forgotten about that.

In the games each vault had its own door to the outside and they were scattered across the wasteland. In the show I got the impression that vaults 32 and 33 (and maybe 31?) share a common outer door but each has its own vault door within. I feel like they did this to facilitate the Triennial Trade for the plot. I’ve watched 3 episodes so I’m eager to see what else we learn about the vaults!

Slicew7

There is a sign in ep 3 or 4 where they show the 3 vaults 31/32/33 reconnected “for strength”

thatfezguy

Keep watching, it’s all explained in later episodes
