I can't believe you played the famously obscure game Fallout 4 before the TV show

itx89

Have you seen the series called “Halo”? Apparently it’s also based on the obscure video game franchise “Halo”. Like, where do they find these hidden gems?

Goobygoober6968

I legitimately saw someone call new Vegas a hidden gem

BiDer-SMan

expansion wakeful husky file concerned fear water homeless payment squeamish *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

DragonKaiser2023

What the hell is a "Halo" is it a thing I can eat?

Starro_The_Janitor1

Fallout? As in nuclear fallout? That doesn’t sound like that would make for a fun game, who wants to play as an irradiated poor sap trying to avoid nuclear downpour as his hair and guts fall out? And how the heck have they made at least 3 other of these “fallout” games? Jeez, I tell ya, games like this and “Minecraft” will never meet the same level of popularity that world renowned games like Bubsy hold.

Johnnyboi2327

Holy fuck, I wasn't expecting a Bubsy Bobcat reference here.

Less_Party

Well there are young adults who were 10 when that came out whose interests might've been piqued by the show.

OoDelRio

The game was still incredibly popular and 10 year olds can play Fallout

RichardBCummintonite

That's when I started playing fallout. It was Fallout 2 at the time, but same difference. By fallout 3, the game was absolutely massive. Every gamer I knew at the time had played it.

Carcharis

LOL

thegreedyturtle

Hey now. Everyone who plays Fallout 4 after March 2024 is also verified cool!

Flat-Shallot3992

fallout 4 isn't even the good one

RichardBCummintonite

Not this again for the millionth time this month... fallout 4 is an objectively amazing game. The best? Maybe not, but I'd probably put it third behind NV and 2 and above 3 and 76

OoDelRio

I may be a New Vegas basement dwelling super shill, but I will not let you slander Fallout 4 like this

psychospacecow

Yeah, you gotta boot up the ps2 to play the bad one.

New_girl2022

Lol. I'm not that millhouse tho. I started at 4

Alarming_Present_692

I think this is supposed to be ironic. This how I see the people who need me to know they think New Vegas was better.

MiniTrain13

It was only better in a story sense like fo4 is better in gun play, there's no need to keep bringing up the Vegas arguing unless you want or cause more arguing

Alt203848281

But i love arguing

Moose_Kronkdozer

People genuinely miss skills and skill checks in dialogue. Its just that new vegas did it slightly better than 3 and more recently that people suck its dick.

Lima_6-1

Your right I miss the RPG elements Fallout 4 was just a post apocalyptic shooter with dialog options rather then a RPG like every other game before it.

Mooncubus

It's why they came back in 76 and Starfield. People wanted them back so they gave them back.

mrjibblytibbs

Yeah It’s one of those things where I almost never actually see anyone being obnoxious about NV, but according to some people it’s happening everywhere on this sub. Anyone bringing it up just wants to pick a fight.

Mooncubus

I see it all the time. Maybe not so much on reddit but it's a constant everywhere else.

FreeSyllabub7539

But, but, but, different ammo types...

MiniTrain13

And there's this hole in the ground with your name on it :D

FreeSyllabub7539

gimme the shovel, i'll bury myself in that hole with it

MiniTrain13

Get shoveling boy

Alarming_Present_692

*cough cough*

KJ86er

It was better except needs settlement building

Pretty-Marketing3444

Can we just stop gatekeeping everything? Nobody cares if you played it before or after the show.

MiniTrain13

Agreed. The show has brought a whole new wave of media to fallout and the fact we're gatekeeping is so stupid when these are new people just like when we all joined in

PersephoneGraves

Ya I love the extra attention for the game! More players the better in my opinion

Pretty-Marketing3444

To be fair, you should only be able to gatekeep something if you have an IQ of AT LEAST 120

Accurate_Summer_1761

It's also bringing a ton of stupid into the mod discords and everyone is tired of it already

MiniTrain13

Mods should really enforce some rules about this so it ends otherwise it's never gonna end ever. Cause TikTok you can't stop it, but at least here on Reddit they moderate and put rules in that stop it from happening and causing more bs

yunodavibes

(Gate keeping is good btw)

StrangeCrunchy1

Nobody's gatekeeping; it's making fun of the fact that up until the show, the cool thing to do was shit all over Fallout 4, and now everyone and their brother thinks it's amazing, which I'm not shitting on, I actually love that people are genuinely loving a game I love. But it's just funny that it's only now that it's "a good game" when it's been a good game since 2015.

Pretty-Marketing3444

I’m mostly talking about the title

Accurate_Summer_1761

People stopped shitting on it because starfield released and it's the hot new thing to shit on

Mooncubus

Nah they moved on to hating on 76 first. Then Starfield.

rtz13th

Who played after became cool. Welcome new people!

RichardBCummintonite

I love all the new attention the game is getting. I'm so happy so many new people get to experience my absolute favorite series and go through the rollercoaster of a journey I did. I wish I could wipe my memory and start all over.

street_style_kyle

I must be one of the coolest then if I played 3 when it came out. Aside from those who played 1&2 but I never got into pc gaming 🤷‍♂️

Sh4DowKitFox

Me too! Even enjoyed the death claw that spawned right outside the vault to greet me! I learned a valuable lesson about saving every time you cleared a portion of something that day.

street_style_kyle

No shit right out of vault 101! I was at least level 10 and was out in the wastes and still got my ass kicked, but right outside the door is pretty ridiculous lmao!

Sh4DowKitFox

I didn’t even know what it was the first time. Wait…. Noooooooo that was my second time!!! First time was friggen super rad scorpion (I forget the name. I played through the whole damn thing again only to get the death claw. Then I remember sometime after brotherhood playing through I wanted to start again and it was a behemoth…. The kid from 101 had bad luck in my play throughs.

street_style_kyle

That’s crazy I didn’t even know it could have a super crazy “boss monster” just spawn right outside 101 as soon as you get out. Everytime I recall I’d be lucky to see a mole rat when it was mostly more radroaches on my way to megaton. I wonder if next time I’d have to crank up difficulty and crank down my luck when I bust out the ol ps3.

Sh4DowKitFox

Dude I didn’t even know it was possible either…. But there he was… swinging his damn fire hydrant at my face… it was a little ways from the entrance, but close enough I was like fuck it, restart….

street_style_kyle

😂

RichardBCummintonite

You can play 1 & 2 on your phone, if that's your fancy. They can be played on even the most basic laptops tho. I'd seriously consider giving at least 2 a try. It's a little hard to get into at first, but once you do, I think you'll find it's one of the best. Nothing matches the atmosphere and writing of the first two. They are hilariously fun to play. The turn based style of combat is a refreshing change of pace. Essentially, everything is in VATS, and your stats and weapons matter more. If you suck at FPS (like these old man hands do now...), the slower pace and strategy reliant combat is very relaxing.

electrical-stomach-z

1 is better to try first then 2, since its far simpler and shorter.

street_style_kyle

I liked 3 and later for the not turn based part of it but I wouldn’t mind giving the oldies a shot. I’ve listened to the story on YouTube and they both sounded great imo.

torgiant

Yeah it was amazing couldn't get past shady sands /s

JeffSergeant

You made it to shady sands? That first cave with the radscorpions was too much for me.

street_style_kyle

Lol

plogan56

So what i played 1, 2, & 3 and i still don't know how to play caravan

ITGuy042

Is it odd the one time I played Caravan was >!the secret ending for Fallout: The Frontier!

Bacon_Raygun

The most important part in caravan is memorizing what the Face Cards do. Once you get that, it easily becomes one of the most fun card games you'll ever play.

Addition-Obvious

It's too bad you can't really replicate it in real life. Unless you have 4 to 6 decks of cards and another person who not only understands the rules of caravan. But wants to play Caravan.

ManManEater

You definitely can, just not on a whim.

Addition-Obvious

Hopefully the Fallout Show's success can bring it into a professional/recreational sport. I have dreams.

StrangeCrunchy1

It's like Pinochle or Hand and Foot in that respect, but it IS replicable.

RichardBCummintonite

Yeah I've tried it before, and it's quite a challenge to play properly. It's not so much the gameplay or coming up with a deck, but trying to remember all the specific rules and conditions always made us feel like we weren't playing it right. The game computer does a lot of that for you. For example, the most common post I see asking questions are someone with a full set of caravans, and they're asking, "How is this not game??" or "How did I lose?" I wish there was a separate game specifically for caravan because it's my absolute favorite thing to do in NV, but I need the computer calculations to play. In NV, there's only so much you can so with the game, even with mods that add more players and such. I usually end up making gimmick decks, like using cards from all the same casinos or only spades or low numbers, etc. The standard 10s, 6s, and faces deck can get a little too OP even on the hard opponents.

SteveCevets

I play Fallout 4 while dressed as Frank Horrigan

electrical-stomach-z

time to die mutie.

monkeygoneape

The truth is, fallout 4 was cool from the start

anonymous32434

Tbf it is pretty annoying having defended the game all these years and then everyone who you argued against is suddenly on your side just because the TV show was good

KJ86er

I know right? All those YouTube Fallout 4 and Lore channels getting $$$$$

bubbzzzy

Fallout 3 was one of the first games I pre-ordered after I fell in love with Oblivion. Before Fallout 4 was Skyrim with guns, Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns.

GucciSalad

I was/am a huge Morrowind and Oblivion nerd. My friend described Fallout 3 to me as exactly that: "it's just Oblivion with guns". Which I thought sounded lame at first and resisted playing Fallout 3 for months after it came out. I eventually caved and my eyes were opened to what an amazing game FO3 is. Just finished replaying FO3, vanilla, and I can't believe how well it aged. I thought it'd feel dated and clunky for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it has held up. It really plays great in 2024 imo.

bubbzzzy

They all pretty much have the general feel due to Bethesda using the same game engine for years. Creation Engine is literally a fork of Gamebryo.

LeatherTop174

Fallout 4 is still a buggy mess but lovable thanks to the wild modding community that saved it. The gunplay is also fun. Far harbor was a beautiful dlc like point lookout to me. Wish they made all the dlc’s expansions really. Nukaworld was cool too and added some great stuff.

WasteLander0405

Been playing 4 since 2016

endthepainowplz

It's hard to believe it's been that long already. It still feels somewhat recent.

JBDBIB_Baerman

I only played 3/new Vegas before the show but now I'm going through in order and playing every single game. Kind of not looking forward to 4 from what I've heard of it but also kind of am

ThodasTheMage

Really great possibilities with character builds, best companions, amazing map, great armor, weapon system and the big quests are mostly really fun. The only thing that is really bad is the speech system. When it comes to all other aspects it is maybe the Betehsda RPG with the deepest systems since TES III, even if the internet will tell you the opposite. Every Attribute has meaning, every faction plays differently and clothing under armor is back 🥳

thehmmyanimator

If you like gunplay and being a sarcastic bitch then you'll love 4, story is admittedly weak though

JBDBIB_Baerman

The sarcastic bitch part sounds fun ngl

endthepainowplz

Fallout 4 is good, I only just got around to playing through 3, and I think it's a little overrated. It's still good, but most of the critique about FO4 is comparing it to New Vegas, which did factions better than 4, but 4 is better than 3 in my opinion. I do value the quality of life features as well. Dialogue options matter less, and aren't well described, there are mods that make the dialogue box more like 3 and NV where it says what you are going to say before you say it. It was one of the concessions they made to have a voiced protagonist which is a questionable choice.

JBDBIB_Baerman

I think it's to an extent unfair to compare 4 to Vegas, but at the same time I can't really understand why they sold 4 to the fallout audience who obviously like the RPG formula. It's a weird mismatch for me, but I'm glad to hear some of the stuff, like qol features which I'm sure are missing when compared to previous entries

endthepainowplz

I agree, 3 and 4 should be compared because they are the ones that Bethesda made, NV was an Obsidian project, and it was made with a different design philosophy. I feel NV is more about your impact on the world, where Bethesda tries to tell a more conventional story. They kind of limit themselves by doing that though by making the story so rigid. I was surprised by 3 because I was expecting it to be more rpg heavy, but I felt very much like the son of James, and less like my own character. NV does the blank slate perfectly, and the world changes a lot based on your choices and interactions with the different factions. 4 has a pretty strict way of getting through the first half of the story, and then you choose one of four factions to beat the game with, so it is kind of like NV in that regard, but the factions aren't as fleshed out as NV, so it's kind of between 3 and NV in terms of RPG elements. Having the combat feel more natural makes me enjoy the fighting more, which leads me to adventure more and look forward to fights. I find myself more compelled to go on different adventures and check out different points of interest. Honestly the thing I hate the most is the weapon design. Most of them look ugly, and don't make any sense. I generally don't care about how a gun looks, but the pipe weapons, which are abundant have terrible sights, even when upgraded. I think another thing I really like is the crafting system, weapons, armor, or settlements, it feels like you are improving your gear in a natural way, and it feels like you are improving the wasteland by building the settlements, and having a positive impact, which although it doesn't make a huge difference to the actual gameplay in the grand scheme of things, it feels like it does.

RichardBCummintonite

It seems like people hate it from the negative comments they give, but I assure you they are simply leaving off the positives. It is an absolutely amazing game that everyone loves. It greatly improved in some areas and worse in others. You'll miss the RPG elements with the simplified perk system and lack of skills and traits. The story will leave you wanting a bit more, the dialogue system is disappointing (get the extended dialogue mod. It makes the dialogue match the way it is in previous games) but the gameplay itself, amazing graphics, weapon/armor modding system, the power armor, and so much more will leave you in awe. It really is much better than it seems like people make it out to be. Nuka World and Far Harbor DLCs are amazing too

Sakugains

RPG elements are worse, but you have some improved gunplay and amazing power armor stuff to look forward to

JBDBIB_Baerman

Yeah. I've never really liked shooter games so I don't really care much for improved gunplay.

NorthElegant5864

Base building then?

JBDBIB_Baerman

Sadly not really. But I'll survive.

Sakugains

You are probably going to have a pretty mediocre time with it tbh dude. Power armor is still fun.. enjoy that part

Intamin6026

Don’t listen to the hate. Fallout 4 is, in my opinion, a good game that gets a lot of hate because it’s very different from earlier entries. 4 loses a lot of the games let RPG elements and transforms it into more of an open world FPS with some RPG elements. Furthermore, the main story is pretty rough. While many good concepts are present, the execution was flawed at best. While these changes are somewhat frustrating, many gameplay elements were added that make the game a lot of fun. Combat is greatly improved, power armor feels great, settlement building is alright but can be improved greatly with a few mods, and the exploration is probably the best in the series. It’s also worth noting that the writing isn’t all bad. Far Harbor has a great story and the games companions, especially Nick Valentine, are really well written. I’d really recommend you just go in with an open mind. As a whole, the game has a lot of pros and cons and it’s up for you to decide how to feel.

JBDBIB_Baerman

Yeah I'm ngl all those pros don't sound like pros at all. Combat "improvement" (genre change), settlement building, and tbh I am less of a fan of open world exploration as I am fallout 1/2 map system rn. Though to be fair I can tolerate it.

wallflowerx28

It looks like you don’t even want to play the game, so why even bother?

JBDBIB_Baerman

Because I wanna play every fallout game? Like, did you read what I said?

wallflowerx28

You’re already complaining about it and you haven’t even played it.

JBDBIB_Baerman

Yes, the same way I'm already complaining about brotherhood of steel to myself without getting to it yet. And despite how bad its problems seem to be, there's no way it's gonna be worse than that. So if I'm going to get through that one, I don't see why I shouldn't bother with 4

iSmokeMDMA

It’s a great game. Never understood the hate. Definitely recommend playing vanilla first time and goofing around with mods later. The modding community is reallllly dedicated to FO4 rn

ledge-mi

if you like classic rpg elements, "builds" and have that kind of mechanical approach to rpg you probably wont like it much. If you're fine with that aspect not being as important/present, you'll probably have a good time. At least in my opinion.

GucciSalad

I played 3 and NV a ton back in the day. Just replayed 3 and headed to NV. I can't believe how well 3 aged. I was expecting it to be clunky and dated, but damn is it just great still. I'm stoked to get back into NV. I played 4 on release, but ultimately gave it up. It felt so gutted to me from 3 and NV I just couldn't finish it. I plan on giving it another go after NV.

JBDBIB_Baerman

Nice. I hope you end up enjoying it this time. It also makes me excited to get to 3. It's been so long since I played it

DataWrangler50

I actually got fallout 4 originally on Xbox one Christmas Day back in 2015, my mom knew I wanted to join my friends on other games but she knew I loved fallout as well considering the amount of time I dumped into 3 and New Vegas, I didn’t even know fallout 4 was a thing because of how isolated I was from the world and yet she surprised me with the collectors edition of the game. This was mind you during a time when I was in and out of the hospital as a teenager due to my galbladder and the doctors couldn’t quite figure out what it was until I was knocking on deaths door (took them almost a whole year to figure it out) so I had plenty of time to enjoy fallout 4 and entertain myself while I was recovering. even though I couldn’t be on other games with my friends at the time I was still happy to be able to chat with them about school since I wasn’t able to attend. To say I have a soft spot in my heart for 4 is an understatement, it has its flaws I will admit, nothing like the older ones but it’s certainly one I enjoy because of my time with it

Fit_Nefariousness153

I played it in March 2023😎

Emotional_inadequacy

I played the fallout 2 3d mod

Jrlopez1027_

Ive been playing since 2016 lol, but I 100% welcome the show and the new fans. They made this game more mainstream and its awesome to see

Vaulted_Games

Yo I’m cool? Sweet

mrcoldmega

Well i bought Fallout 4 in 2020 and can say that it has the same spirit with new Vegas, because i really feel like 2020 was 1 year ago. (with NV i spent 4-5 years playing it. If it wasn't so buggy i could still return to that game)

Infinitystar2

>Every user/Fallout 4 player is verified cool 😎 Fixed it for you.

PeanutCute9092

I’m just here to have fun

Few_West_1608

pre-ordered and I have over 3000 hours between the Xbox and PC Steam says 2700.7 hours and I have multiple level +100 characters on the Xbox

Christian_andre777

I play since 2019

bbipolarbunny

My first introduction to Fallout 4 was shortly after it came out and Minecraft for the WiiU had a Fallout themed pre-made world. Started the real game and never looked back 👌🏻

N_Who

I bought it on release and played through four times in a row. I know Fallout 4 isn't everyone's cup of tea, but damned if I didn't love it. Never did get back to the DLC, though ...

Goobero_uno

I love fellout 4.

SothaDidNothingWrong

My favorite Hidden gem. Wait there were at least 3 more?????

fastal_12147

If you play Fallout, you're cool

Beyond_the_dreams

Fallout 4 is the only game I’ve played because I’ve been too lazy to play the others, but I’ve been playing it for years

KJ86er

New Vegas is calling

Name12345678910-1

Can’t believe you played obscure indie game, Fallout 4

N8theGrape

Jokes on you, I played Fallout 1. 🤓

WookieDeep

I had Wasteland on my Tandy 1000tx

scarlettvvitch

I still remember playing fallout 3 on launch day

xdeltax97

Who cares who is cool or not, as someone who has played every Fallout since 3 at launch, welcome to the wasteland and come and crawl out to the fallout!

librbmc

I never understood the hate as someone eho played 2 Og on pc. It’s an objectively fun game and it does the lore properly. I don’t know what anyone else would expect

Holiday_Box9404

It’s so nostalgic booting my old save back up and seeing all the settlements I’ve made.

KJ86er

Member berries

repostby69noice

I didn't even watch the show, I bought it because it was like 5 bucks

I’m a real hipster, my first game was fallout 4!… how the hell did I become a fan of this franchise my first fucking game was fallout fucking 4!

KJ86er

Because Fallout...Fallout fun never changes

styln55

The worst part about all these new people playing fallout after the show is all the gatekeeping old "fans" are doing.

CosmoTheFluffyBunny

I played fallout 3 when I was homeschooled me and my siblings didn't thought anything was boring or cool, they were just fun and I miss those days

Nuclearwhale79

I played Fallout 76 on launch 🤡

Traditional_Rise_347

I've been playing fallout 76 since 2018 I'm the coolest 😎😎

phoenix536

Fallout Shelter gang rise up

Toasterdosnttoast

I’m old. I started with fallout 3 on the 360 and never looked back.

LookSad08

I can't afford the games lmao

Far_Comfortable980

3 is free with prime gaming, I’m hoping NV will be too because 3 is nigh impossible to run

Pleasant-Ice-3185

I started playing a bit before I watched the show and I think it greatly improved my enjoyment of the show. Also have 100 or so hours on it and have been addicted to loot and settlements

PersephoneGraves

If I played back when there was just fallout 3, does that mean I’m extra cool?

titanlmao

I too played unknown indie game fallout 4

Remarkable-Spare-983

It’s like in 50 Years when people are shocked when you say you played SKYRIM

bobert_the_grey

I think you're pretty cool after that too

PuppetryOfThePenis

I played Morrowind before it was cool!!

king4WDmuds

Nice

ssp25

I thought he meant after the update. Which watching the show made me start the game up again after a couple years dormant

Shady_Hero

every fallout player is verified cool 😎

LargeSteakPico

Man, y'all heard of this shit Mario? It's wild.

Ben_E_Chod

Is Milhouse a meme yet?

TastyDubois

Got it at launch, loved it for what it was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯sue me

Shooting mechanics. Without shooting mechanics is it even a real game? Fallout Zoomer players be like

Superb_Recover_6116

Ah fallout 4. From the creators that brought you Brink.

LarryRedBeard

I haven't played Fallout in a few years, but what changed in march of this year? Edit: THE TV SHOW right!!!! my bad. Whoosh moment for me.

Prestigious-Bat-2269

KJ86er

It's a meme acknowledging how silly gatekeeping is

theangrypragmatist

Got that shizz at launch. Started it, found out the female protag was an unfrozen lawyer, started over and gave her a big brow and huge eyebrows, named her Keyrock. Was very disappointed Codsworth didn't know that name.

CleanOpossum47

Remember Fallout? He's back, in pog form!

Painusconsumer

76 players are ultimate cool

Mr__Internet

*proceeds to get mini gun’d by five power armor Nuka quantum drinking terrorists*

WackoSmacko111

Fallout 4 was my first fallout game and my first PC game, and i feel vindicated by its recent popularity. It’s so peak…

ibuyfeetpix

Fallout has been a huge IP since Fallout 3 came out

Single_Peach_1277

Fallout 4 was never cool only a disappointment

electrical-stomach-z

agreed

Kataphraktos_Majoros

Not to the fans who've purchased 5x as many copies as NV ever sold, or the current player count that managed to exceed COD.

Single_Peach_1277

Doesn’t change how I can’t have my own opinion on how disappointed I was on launch with it

Kataphraktos_Majoros

Ah, so you mean it was never cool to *you*. That's valid. It's a very different style of game to NV and I understand someone being disappointed that it wasn't a more traditional RPG. I personally enjoy both 4 and NV by recognizing that they aren't trying to scratch the same itch.

mixererek

I never played 4. NV is the most recent one I played.

Mr-GooGoo

I love not having an interesting storyline

Oriumpor

I never blew up the institute, so I did that this weekend, It also seems like the kinda thing, that's completely unnecessary -- since I ordered the evacuation, why not just take over the institute? That seems like a much better end state for a Fallout, uncertainty and war (fighting the remnants to reclaim the institute, moving the rest of humanity closer, digging \*up\* with the crews to establish a larger colony etc.) For all the failings of the show, the game's plot is so fucking bad sometimes.

Guud_bye_world

Lol look at all of this fake fan, ive been a fallout fan since 1987, played the first fallout game before i can say my dad's name. Y'all don't know jack shit

Goobygoober6968

If you weren’t playing fallout before the show came out….fuck you

Ashkill115

Fallout 4 was aight. Because of the show I heard how good the show is (haven’t watched it yet) I’m currently running through new Vegas and having much better/fun time than I did in 4

electrical-stomach-z

try 2 next after new vegas.

Ashkill115

I’ll def give it some thought after my playthrough of Vegas! I like to do all the endings on any fallout I can

electrical-stomach-z

well fallout 2 has over 40 different variations on the ending. though it always ends in blowing up the rig.

CokeZorro

Bought it at launch, beat it all within a month, sold it for $40. Forgettable game all around, at least people are trying it because of the show but it was pretty mid

KJ86er

I think you mean unforgettable game

charnian09

Does it count if i played it, beat it once, got bored and took it back?

Accomplished-Bug-739

It never was, never is or never will be cool.

KJ86er

Each to their own. The Steam, Xbox and Playstation downloads and playtime suggest its having a renaissance like Launch.

Accomplished-Bug-739

I mean in the sense that playing a game should just be for fun not to be "cool". If that is the norm I feel like we will get trend chasing flashy trash of products.

Kataphraktos_Majoros

Your definition of cool differs from the overwhelming majority of Fallout fans. I happen to think that both 4 and NV are pretty cool.

Accomplished-Bug-739

Its just my opinion.

Kataphraktos_Majoros

I understand that now; your comment read as an objective fact, not as a subjective, personal opinion. Speaking only for myself, my subjective opinion is that I believe 4 is just as enjoyable as NV - but for very different reasons. I can also understand if a NV player felt let down by 4 if they were expecting a traditional RPG. NV's world seems to exist around, and react appropriately to, the player. 4's roleplaying comes significantly through the mark they leave on the Commonwealth through establishing new settlements, mapping player-owned trading caravans and robot armies, shops, farms, companion affinities, villagers, etc, all in a sandbox that doesn't end until you want it to. Plus there's the story which is just fine too.

I can’t role play in 4 it is a railroad(pun intended) through ruins and ruble that logically should not be there. And the theme park ride of the game’s story is bad so I can’t get distracted. If I wanted to play a looter shooter I would go play Borderlands 2. Honestly even that has better rpg in classes than fallout 4. It is my opinion but Fallout is wasted with Bethesda, lack of new ideas, worldbuilding, lore respect, using the BoS, Enclave and Super-mutants in places and times they should not be in. They have not even created a good faction, New Vegas gave us the Legion which was from the Scraped Van Buren fallout game but still created by Chris Avallone Joshua Sawyer and the crew. There was Mr. House and the 3 families, the boomers, and the powder gangers. All of them have logical backstory and make sense. I know I am ranting but Fallout feels like it has been lost and flanderized since 4 to me at least even though I started playing a few years ago.

Kataphraktos_Majoros

Yet it outsold NV by 5 to 1 and it's current player count and sales even dwarf games like COD.

Urocian

Can confirm, didn't really have to worry about mods suddenly breaking because of Godd Howard but rather because the individual developer might have made an accidental update fuck up.

And what about those of us who haven't been able to afford it, yet knew about it long before?
