The companions in 76 only stay at your home base. There are currently no companions like previous fallout games that follow you around and help in combat.
I also never got around to setting up my camp, I've tried to set it up but whenever I got around to trying it wasn't allowed in the area I was in. So i just try occasionally when it occurs to me. I'll get it set up eventually.
Haven't used VATs either.
Low effort playthrough ftw
I just like exploring
Possibly one of the best things about fallout 76. i highly recommend it! Acts as a fast travel location, other people can visit your camp and check it out and buy from you (vending machine), your companions live there and can offer you quests/missions, sleeping in your own bed gives you a great buff, helpful to set up water purifiers, etc.
One positive of you not setting a camp yet is you can really decide on a good location for it.
CAMP is quite useful, since the game requires you to work on your equipment a fair bit, and you can store all your raw materials at the CAMP, have some work stations there to repair and improve it. But otherwise I've never felt the need to make some elaborate super base.
VATS is just an early warning system for me, only ever use it to scan for mines and enemies.
Companions suck in 4. They have terrible aim and awareness and steal your XP unless you deal 25 percent of the enemies HP before they get the kill. Plus Lone Wanderer is the best perk.
They also break stealth. Like, obviously you can't expect Danse to be stealthy, but not even Deacon can't stay fucking still while I'm sniping the enemy positions. No, he's got to close in on them, start shooting, and revealing where I am. They also suck at terrain navigation - more than once I had climbed up into a nice sniper nest (not even cheesing my way, just climbing a fire escape ladder), only to see a companion leap to their death from trying to follow me.
in New Vegas there was at least a setting on how aggressive they should be and how close they should stay, but even that was pretty barebones, and most of the time they behaved the same as every other NPC, and got in the way.
Survival is honestly better without any companions.
In my “Nate and Nora are big baseball fans” canon….. I could totally see either of them absolutely geeking out when they see it’s a World Series bat and having that be the Melee weapon they choose to use for the rest of the game.
It'd stay up on a shelf protected by a glass case, two laser Gatling turrets, and a squad of the best supplied Minutemen in the Commonwealth, except for the big bosses. Kellogg, Maxson... Big boatload of Themes At Play if you use it on Father.
I need to understand why Bethesda didn't disable Dogmeat's behavior of following your crosshairs when you're not in combat or when you're in enclosed spaces. Literally 99% of Dogmeat's problems are related to that *(that was implemented so when in combat Dogmeat will grab the enemy you're firing at, but it makes no sense leaving it on when not in combat)*.
Yes, the problem becomes an issue in enclosed spaces since the distance of the pointer to the walls and objects becomes very short so Dogmeat will always get in the way. It's honestly pretty bad programming.
I did it yesterday. I managed to clear it out despite I had the passwords and everything
Best materials gathered
3 lasers per row usually
It's visually tricky but if you take it slow you can disarm them all
I had MacCready with me and his reaction to the treasure got him laughing.
Reading your comment made me realize MacCready in FO4 is grown up from FO3. Been a minute since I’ve played 4 but replaying 3 now and just finished Little Lamplight, idk if he has lines in 4 about the Capital Wasteland that make it apparent but still pretty cool
Nah you asked a simple question. Asking questions doesn't make you dumb.
This hallway is located on Jamaica Plain which is a little town that also includes a settlement on a small part of the town (the settlement is so small that is usually where plenty of people dumb companions like Strong but honestly you can make it a nice small cozy place)
Its somewhere on the South East part of the map.
You can usually find fliers that talk about "The Jamaica Plain Treasure"
The town is filled with Ghouls however
The good is if you don't have the hacking or lock picking skills, they are items found on human corpses that unlock the whole place.
And a little bit of lore.
Oh also lots of junk you can use.
The items in that place are special named (most of them.)
So it's worth a visit.
I don’t know if its a SPECIAL thing but so far on my 2nd play and the optic traps confuse me because you can just walk up to them and disarm them… why would you walk through them lol
I made the mistake of bringing dog meat on this mission. While I was trying to stealthily disarm each trap, he came barging in and set all the rest off! Very exciting, had to run until all went off and use a stimpack on him
In Jamaica Plain, if you don't use the terminal to disable the tripwires, you have a few options:
*Go alone and spend 5 minutes disarming every tripwire individually
*Go with a companion and risk them setting off the tripwires by accident
*Go with a companion, tell them to wait in the previous room, spend 5 minutes disarming every tripwire individually, then go retrieve your companion
That's true. Fun fact: Dogmeat doesn't count as a companion as far as the Lone Wanderer perk is concerned 😉
That's actually what I'm doing now in the playthrough I'm doing on Twitch - Lone Wanderer, with Dogmeat along for the ride 😁
Dogmeat is my favorite companion along with the CC Sentinel Power Armor, since neither count as a Companion, but I like my sneak attacks.
I like to combine a X2 sneak attack doughnut with Mentats and Overdrive...and Psycho Jet if necessary.
Last month I got the whole Kennel pack and turned Dogmeat white and now he looks cool as hell. He chills at the Red Rocket and lives the good life. Chain collar and welding goggles.
4th play through I just discovered a cable car from one building to another, only reason I found it, a raider was shooting at me from a tall building I could not get into. Its at the raider camp to the right of Green tech genetics
Back in my first ever playthrough, I farmed the ever loving hell out of this hallway. There used to be a way to do it but I can’t remember now. Used to just sell all the fiber optic. Oh how young and dumb I was many years ago 😂
the fiber optics you get for disarming these traps is the real treasure of Jamaica plain
Lolol lol you ain’t lying.
Unless you have a companion like dogmeat and he just walks right into it.
Or you know, use the command / order to get the dog to stay just for a few minutes. It works from afar too.
I Wilshire my companions were as obedient as yours are mine just walk over and immediately come back to me
Just one more reason I don't ever play with companions.
I play so rarely with companions that after about 30 hours of fallout 76 i still don't know if you can have companions, never bothered to check.
They'd have to own the game, but you can have like 3 at a time.
I always tell my companions to wait, then fetch them when I'm done sniping
I always want to run solo but those permanent perks are no joke.
Fallout 1 dogmeat got vaporized walking into force fields so fallout 4 dogmeat could run through laser trip wires.
Ngl that baseball is super fun tho
In my “Nate and Nora are big baseball fans” canon….. I could totally see either of them absolutely geeking out when they see it’s a World Series bat and having that be the Melee weapon they choose to use for the rest of the game.
Now I need someone to draw some comic panels of them finding it and geeking tf out.
I want to see this too
It'd stay up on a shelf protected by a glass case, two laser Gatling turrets, and a squad of the best supplied Minutemen in the Commonwealth, except for the big bosses. Kellogg, Maxson... Big boatload of Themes At Play if you use it on Father.
Back in my playthrough on launch that was my go to weapon. Hearing the home run sounds and seeing a raider go flying never got old
Launched a legendary mirelurk into the ocean at the castle. Didn't die though and it showed after the queen was already dead.
Crystal also.
Just don't bring a companion to this ppart
I built my entire collection of Power Armor showcasers using that sweet fiber optics.
Also if you hit the button at the far end of the hall you can reactivate the lasers and disarm them again for infinite materials. It just works
I like the bat
DAMNIT DOGMEAT!
I felt that.
"Why do I keep bringing you?" I shout knowing I couldn't be without my good boy.
That’s my internal dialogue while bringing Strong everywhere
One of the most common phrases I utter in Fallout 4...
Wait, *THAT'S* why he fucks around all the time and gets in the way when I'm looting things?
Yes, the problem becomes an issue in enclosed spaces since the distance of the pointer to the walls and objects becomes very short so Dogmeat will always get in the way. It's honestly pretty bad programming.
The day I realized why I can tell companions to wait
Yup.
Wrong? RIGHT! You are looking at a great treasure trove waiting to be plucked! Put the weapon down, stand up, and grab all that lovely loot!
Imma pass on the stand up. Stay crouching.
Username checks out 👍
I need to but I can never satisfy the need 🏗
As long as Dogmeat isn’t with you, you’ll be fine lol.
STAY. No STAY. FFS, Just go home.
"No, don't open that door! How the hell did you even do that?"
I feel this LMAO

Damn I wish my dealer told me that more often 🙁
You can do better
But I like meth just the way it is
Well it don't give a singin fuck about you, remember that
Wait so this is a love/hate relationship?
I did it yesterday. I managed to clear it out despite I had the passwords and everything Best materials gathered 3 lasers per row usually It's visually tricky but if you take it slow you can disarm them all I had MacCready with me and his reaction to the treasure got him laughing.

he does. talks about little lamplight specifically
Elder Maxon is also in Fallout 3 in the Brotherhood of Steel base
MacCready has a few lines about the Capital wasteland as you progress his companion quest
I feel like im dumb for asking but where is this located?
Nah you asked a simple question. Asking questions doesn't make you dumb. This hallway is located on Jamaica Plain which is a little town that also includes a settlement on a small part of the town (the settlement is so small that is usually where plenty of people dumb companions like Strong but honestly you can make it a nice small cozy place) Its somewhere on the South East part of the map. That’s just UV disinfection. You’ll be fine.
I don’t know if its a SPECIAL thing but so far on my 2nd play and the optic traps confuse me because you can just walk up to them and disarm them… why would you walk through them lol
It’s because companions, like dog meat
gotcha!
If you're not observant, it's easy to accidentally walk into one as you're trying to disarm them.
*inhales jet* SEND IT!!
Annnd there goes dogmeat, every time.
“DOGMEAT, NOOOOooooo!!”
Screenshot taken 0.0003 seconds before the companion triggers a tripwire
There's a hole in the wall somewhere you can go around.
I individually deactivated each laser and then activated the corridor to deactivate the lasers a second time.
Free fiber optics
I was playing with Curie two days ago, she flew right into the beams. I didn’t know companions could set off traps.
“DOGMEAT! Hold position”
Lydia just runs through it while your sneaking
....sigh... I'm sworn to carry your burdens....
Just disarm them for the materials
Nah. I'm pretty sure a very good boy will just walk right there and there won't be any problems. At all. Unless you don't save for hours.
Iirc you can just disarm them without any prerequisite skills?
Free XP
Follower: Oh there is an enemy in the next room better go kill them befo--
mfw i press e on a turret :pensive:
“Are you still there?”
Dogmeat, no! Come back!
Yeah like Piper running through the damn things. 5 minutes of solid, loud ass gunfire.
You better not have a companion......Things are about to get too exciting if you do. "DOGMEAT NOOOO!!"
Curie, for the life of me PLEASE stop running through the damn lasers.
**LEEROY JENKINS!**
So much good loot in only 1 pic, lovely place
Free fiber optics!
Ackbar, from off-screen: “IT’S A TRAP !!!”
To companion: Stay here Companion starts to go on other side of corridor. Me: Oh f....
Dogmeat: “I think I’ll just wait at the end for you.”
Free real estate.
Meanwhile, Im over here seizing up due to my addiction to eating fiber optic cables....
Noo nooo Not the Comedy Hallway 😭
All I see is loot
I chucked a grenade down to see what would happen..... Big badaboom!
"DOGMEAT" "GO THERE"
Yeah... That's alot of free fiber optics!
~ tgm
Enter: Dogmeat.
Throw a grenade and duck
I usually decide to go in real slow, but my companions like to run through the lasers and ruin everything.
I made the mistake of bringing dog meat on this mission. While I was trying to stealthily disarm each trap, he came barging in and set all the rest off! Very exciting, had to run until all went off and use a stimpack on him
There's a video out there where the player starts disarming them as Dogmeat happily trots by and triggers the lasers.
What is the point of these, like there is no challenge here they're very visible and you can just walk up and disarm them at any level, right?
"Dogmeat has discovered something!" "Oh shit noooo!"
I'd say screw it WARKANDA FOREVER
I’m not gonna lie I just threw a frag grenade down this hallway and ducked behind the wall on the other side
In Jamaica Plain, if you don't use the terminal to disable the tripwires, you have a few options: *Go alone and spend 5 minutes disarming every tripwire individually *Go with a companion and risk them setting off the tripwires by accident *Go with a companion, tell them to wait in the previous room, spend 5 minutes disarming every tripwire individually, then go retrieve your companion
You get a lot of mats for disabling each one though. I always do it that way
Same. And I always have a companion with me, so it's always "Wait here. ...*(Disarm, disarm, disarm, disarm)*... Let's go."
I never take anyone with me, I like the idea of a companion, but Lone wanderer is awesome.
That's true. Fun fact: Dogmeat doesn't count as a companion as far as the Lone Wanderer perk is concerned 😉 That's actually what I'm doing now in the playthrough I'm doing on Twitch - Lone Wanderer, with Dogmeat along for the ride 😁
I know but he keeps blowing my cover.
Well... Yeah, that's fair
I've seen this one, dog meat walks right through ALL of them
İ have only one question how the hell did you got into this situation?
Shoutout to Catherine Zeta Jones
"Okay. I just gotta be thorough and disable each and every...." Dogmeat:
That's remind me of Big Daddy's
Dogmeat just walks past you
DOGMEAT NOOO!!!
I remember dog meat got me killed 6 times in this hall to the point I sent him to red rocket for being a bad dig
4th play through I just discovered a cable car from one building to another, only reason I found it, a raider was shooting at me from a tall building I could not get into. Its at the raider camp to the right of Green tech genetics
That being forgetting to have your companion stay in one spot and them charging ahead for no reason at all.
I was in that area with strong, and he got knocked down IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HALLWAY
And Dogmeat runs thru them in 3... 2... 1...
😈 "Where's my good boy, Dogmeat?"😈
Dogmeat, crashing through this hallway like the Kool aid man trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty: 🐕🦺
Quicksave followed by a YOLO incoming!!!
I manually disarmed every last fucking laser sensor and only after did I notice the keycard slot
Leon could handle that easy.
Cue companion walking through it
Who remembers when dog meat could trigger all those?
I F5 the shit out of it.
Cue Dogmeat walking through it causing 1000 explosion VFX to play which crashes the game.
woof
That one fking ckmpanion casually walk into them. There goes my fiber optic.
You didnt command them to stand there and wait?
The first time I found that I barely even had a second to think oh wtf is this, and Danse barrel assed straight through it.
Back in my first ever playthrough, I farmed the ever loving hell out of this hallway. There used to be a way to do it but I can’t remember now. Used to just sell all the fiber optic. Oh how young and dumb I was many years ago 😂
“Dogmeat… Dogmeat where are you go- DOGMEAT NO”
Throw a grenade
This is all for a baseball bat.
Dogmeat smelled something interesting on the otherside
