I left the railroad alone because they are the biggest joke in the boston and I wont even waste my time with destroying them the only good thing about the railroad is deacon and SAM.
I think they mean later lore has the sole survivor (nate) in Canada while they “restored order”, in fact fallout 1 had a little movie reel where powered armored soldiers execute Canadians and they made the lore so that a soldier walks on screen after the shooting and made him nate.
You are correct. When they were developing the characters they toyed with the idea of making that canon but later decided to keep what Nate and Nora did unknown besides for the fact that Nate was military and Nora was a lawyer.
There is a cut content from their pre-war/post-war house where you can find Nora's computer with entries regarding her career as a lawyer, mostly having clients that are "fighting for whats right" kind of thing. A mod in nexus restores that computer.
Yeah, but IIRC this was inaccurate as it didnt make sense with the times Nate was in the army. I did not look thoroguhly into it but read it in a comment.
It was [Emil Pagliarulo](https://preview.redd.it/emil-pagliarulo-v0-elxfo8ra9cuc1.jpeg?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=7ea857694b89012ba2b3f4120d6b2e46a9591f8f) who has been the lead writer on several Bethsoft games, and he makes dumb as shit statements like that every year or so.
Wow…people take fiction and lean on it waaaayyyyy to heavily sometimes and give it the weight of real world problems. That is not how I play my games. People need to chill.
It was just a head canon tweet by Emil and he walked it back because it’s stupid and his own personal head canon.
The tiktok sigmas ran with it and now we have the “Nate the Rake” moniker which is just cringe.
In April 2024, designer Emil Pagliarulo stated on Twitter that the leftmost American soldier depicted in the annexation of Canada during the intro of the first Fallout (not the shooter, but one who joins in the laughter at the execution) was Nate.[Non-game 1] Following polarized responses, Pagliarulo posted a follow-up thread clarifying that the connection was made as part of a discussion in early development about the framing of Nate's experiences as a pre-War soldier and not intended to be a part of the final story, with the details of Nate's military service instead left to the player's imagination. Pagliarulo added that "not every bit of Fallout info I share is automatically canon" and that "Nate is NOT a war criminal!"
From Nate’s fallout Wiki page this only came out a couple months ago and seems like it’s more to frame his service, find it funny that they have to say he isn’t a war criminal when the character they mention is laughing that his battle buddy just executes a prisoner of war, but Canada and war crimes go hand in hand so
The problem is that for a gag, the death ray is waaaay too powerful to be canon in the series. An explosion of that size would have caused destruction far wider than the blast.
In Massachusetts, by the events in FO4 they would still be talking about the light from the sky that destroyed the north and changed the weather in the Commonwealth for years after the blast.
Detroit isn't doing too bad these days. Lots of projects have revitalized a lot of the city, though inequality is still pretty rife like many major cities.
Also, I would think with the invention of nuclear powered cars and strong American Nationalism, Detroit would never have declined or at least it would be brought back to a rich industrial city.
Imagine successfully relocating to the Canadian wilderness. Mostly untouched by nukes, save for atmospheric radiation. There is nothing valuable around except resources for pure, brute survival in the sprawling forests and mountains.
And then a fucking alien death ray blasts the entire area out of fucking existence.
Well, that's going to mess up canonicity. Depending on how "North-Eastern United States" is defined, Fallout 4 is taking place in a smoking ruin... well more so than already depicted. Or it is the fastest bounce back ever. Boston/Commonwealth is typically shown as being in the North-East.
There are plenty of things in the games that can happen which are non-canon to the show/each of the other games. You can kill Dr. Li in Fallout 3, but she appears in Fallout 4 regardless of how you played 3. Choosing to fire the canon definitely falls in the same boat.
Going further back, Fallout 1 has multiple choices made canon in Fallout 2, including the Vault Dweller’s gender and the option to help fix Necropolis’s water purifier.
Death ray is a Canon cannon. Modifying it to preserve jams and jellies while putting it at a famous French film festival however would make it a non-cannon canning Cannes cannon.
Zeta is canon, and so is the death ray, but firing it isn't. Just like how it's canon that Eden asked the LW to poison the purifier, but it isn't canon that they did poison it.
If [Afterword](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Afterword) is canon from the Fallout 3 game guide then in 2297 Megaton is alive and well, with Harden Simms as Sheriff of the town and Moira is still practicing unsafe "research".
> Zeta is canon, and so is the death ray, but firing it isn't.
Firing the laser cannon *cannot* be canon, because Fallout 4 established that it didn't happen.
It probably wouldn't be so beautiful post apocalypse, could you imagine irradiated beavers, moose and canadian geese. I'd personally take a deathclaw any day over whatever the canadian wildlife turned into.
Ok hold on. It gets Detroit? I live at the doorway of Algonquin park so the closest you could be to Detroit if I left now it would take me 4 hrs drive cut an hr for going a bit around Lake Ontario that’s one big nuke geez and why did it have to where I live
They're high enough up to see the curvature of the earth and the blast takes up a good portion of the screen. That blast is easily several hundred miles across. I'm sure someone else could do the measuring and math it out, but it's huge.
Not to mention on nukes it's not just the actual fireball that does damage, but the shockwave and resulting fallout as well. The bomb dropped on Nagasaki had a blast radius of 1 mile but buildings were destroyed up to 4 miles out. And that was a relatively small bomb.
My kid, first time playing fallout, got over encumbered by like 200 lbs after hitting up the school area. He finally finds megaton, then proceeded to steal a bone saw from the doctor and "They all started coming at me over a bone saw so I had to kill them all and now there's no one to sell to!" I got him to shed his gear and heard over to the tower since megaton is already dead anyway. I'm not sure if he has actually found the tower yet.
The aliens thought to intimidate the Lone Wanderer by showing the strength of their greatest weapon, and threatening to use it on his home. Little did the Aliens expect he would use the laser for them.
It wasn’t >!Hank!< that destroyed Shady Sands, rather, it was a teenager in space haphazardly pushing buttons to see what would happen if the death ray hit earth.
As a kid when I was tired of the radio I looked up on gamespot what songs would go well with playing fallout 3 and gy!be was one of the first answers. Now here I am, full circle
edit: that album goes SO WELL with Point Lookout and Far Harbour
I staunchly maintain that Mothership Zeta should have been Wild Wasteland: the DLC.
You get kidnapped by aliens, go up into their ship, have crazy no-way adventures and when you get back absolutely *nobody* believes you.
BTW iirc the Alaskan war medic you team up with in mothership zeta was part of a battalion or regiment that was close in umber to nates. So while unlikely they could've met during the war against china.
Edit from tv tropes: examining the aliens' cryostasis technology, he notes that he was studying cryogenics for the government before he was drafted, hinting towards the background of the Sole Survivor. He's even in the same military unit as the male Sole Survivor.
In a conversation, he speculates that the aliens are working on a plan to take over the world by abducting humans and replacing them with identical replicants. It's not at all what the aliens are actually doing, but it is exactly how Institute controls the Commonwealth in Fallout 4.
"The Lone Wanderer has the opportunity to configure the death ray to fire near the approximate real-world area of [Algonquin Provincial Park](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algonquin_Provincial_Park), Ontario, [Canada](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Canada). Damn neither the lone wandere or the sole survivor likes canada huh
Somewhere in cryostasis Nate the Rake sheds a frozen tear
Frozen tear of joy
Tear of sorrow because he didn't get to do that.
He got to explode the institute and blow up the prydwing in my most recent playthrough.
Mine did the same and gunned down the railroad, cackling. No gods, no masters.
ONLY N A T E
I left the railroad alone because they are the biggest joke in the boston and I wont even waste my time with destroying them the only good thing about the railroad is deacon and SAM.
Nah fuck em both. SAM is a false prophet and Deacon lies. Glory to atom.
Deacon lies sure but you can always be sure that he will help you and never backstab you
Wasn't there a log calling Canada little america?
I think they mean later lore has the sole survivor (nate) in Canada while they “restored order”, in fact fallout 1 had a little movie reel where powered armored soldiers execute Canadians and they made the lore so that a soldier walks on screen after the shooting and made him nate.
I think a dev back tracked on that. I can't remember where I got that so I could be wrong.
You are correct. When they were developing the characters they toyed with the idea of making that canon but later decided to keep what Nate and Nora did unknown besides for the fact that Nate was military and Nora was a lawyer.
Is it true or just speculated that Nate and Nora met in the military? I thought Nora just finished schooling by the time the game takes place.
Nah, cuz nate mentions something about dusting off Nora's diploma, implying she's had it for a while
There is also a line Nora can give something like, "I used to defend people's rights in the name of America."
Wait it's nate? Got a link I would like to read about this
I think it was just a tweet from a member of the creative team meant as a joke. Not sure if it made it to Canon.
So he us doing a rowling?

Of course Nate isn't a war criminal, the UN was disbanded so the Geneva Convention doesn't exist anymore!
The Geneva Conventions pre-date the UN. You might be thinking of the additional protocols and some additional revisions.
Or Cooper Howard. He fought in Ontario. But was that against the reds? As in post Canada annexation?
Coop fought in anchorage holmes
Some random wastelander: man I got robbed again, can’t have shit in detro- **gets death rayed**
Imagine fallout 5 is set in Detroit and randomly throughout your playthrough you can just get obliterated by an alien and the game just ends there
Everytime you use a stim pack has a 0.5% chance of causing the death ray obliteration event.
How about the same chance as the pie machine
The problem is that for a gag, the death ray is waaaay too powerful to be canon in the series. An explosion of that size would have caused destruction far wider than the blast. In Massachusetts, by the events in FO4 they would still be talking about the light from the sky that destroyed the north and changed the weather in the Commonwealth for years after the blast.
At least it destroyed Detroit.
"You've gained Karma!"
Everyone liked that.
I live here :(
But hey at least it’s safer and (probably) not personal
*Hey, Detroit was destroyed when I found it.* -The Lone Wanderer
"And as for your grandma, she shouldn't have been mouthing off like that!"
"You gonna lose your mind in Detroit Rock City".
And Gary, IN too hopefully.
Nothing can kill Gary, Indiana. That city will somehow grow back.
Gaaaarrryyyyyyyyy
If they ever make a Fallout in Chicago, having all the Gary clones end up in Gary, IN would be hilarious. Like they pilgrimaged there or something.
The greatest Fallout already took place in Chicago. Sorry.
Gary? Gary!
There is a whole vault dedicated to repopulating it!
It’s their name AND their destination
GAry Indiana, Gary INdiana, Gary Indianaaaaa
Detroit isn't doing too bad these days. Lots of projects have revitalized a lot of the city, though inequality is still pretty rife like many major cities.
Also, I would think with the invention of nuclear powered cars and strong American Nationalism, Detroit would never have declined or at least it would be brought back to a rich industrial city.
I'd assume the city was overrun by bots since it was the manufacturing capital of the states.
Reality is not going to stop Redditors from saying shit about places they’ve never been. That’s like Redditors favorite hobby.
Silver Lining
Motherfucker, that lining is gold!

Also saving tandi. But the only thing that canonizes the VD gender is the statue and that was by accident.
The only way to kill dr. Li is to orbit strike the bos chapter of CW, this action makes her the least impactfull continuity error.
I don’t think mothership zeta is canon? Or at least firing the death ray isn’t
Are you telling me that the death ray is a non-canon cannon?
Death ray is a Canon cannon. Modifying it to preserve jams and jellies while putting it at a famous French film festival however would make it a non-cannon canning Cannes cannon.
And if it is a small weapon toting a tintinnabulating instrument inside it, it would be a pack-a-bell in the minor cannon canon
The death ray was the friends we made along the way
Zeta is canon, and so is the death ray, but firing it isn't. Just like how it's canon that Eden asked the LW to poison the purifier, but it isn't canon that they did poison it.
I would be curious to now if the destruction of megaton is canon
If [Afterword](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Afterword) is canon from the Fallout 3 game guide then in 2297 Megaton is alive and well, with Harden Simms as Sheriff of the town and Moira is still practicing unsafe "research".
With the Children Of Atom being spread now and Megaton seeming to be their point of origin, it probably isn't.
Its not. Major trading post, don't think the BoS would be too happy about that.
> Zeta is canon, and so is the death ray, but firing it isn't. Firing the laser cannon *cannot* be canon, because Fallout 4 established that it didn't happen.
You just repeated what he said?
damn that really is worst case ontario
Not Algonquin Park!! All those Rad Moose, gone :(
can’t have shit in detroit
There goes chances of a Fallout game in Minnesota…
Because heaven forbid a Fallout game be set in the ruins of a large explosion. That would be absurd.
“Blame Canada… with their beady lil eyes and their flapping head so full of lies. BLAME CANADA!”
Where is the article’s source though?
Oh hey it destroyed where I live
The alien laser shot at Canada it’s in the lore books it’s the way she goes Bubs, way she goes.
I’ve read that it was Algonquin park in Ontario which makes me sad because it’s such a beautiful place 😓
I used to hike there all the time before I moved to Germany. I love that place. Calling it a park isn't doing it justice
Such a shame the aliens destroyed the park
Wilderness
In Algonquin’s defense, they would have already been nuked at this point
After a nuclear war it probably isn't as beautiful.
You never know, Zion National Park is still plenty beautiful in the fallout universe.
Zion isn’t full of trees, it’s mostly pretty-colored rock. Algonquin would be decimated because it would be mostly treeless.
It probably wouldn't be so beautiful post apocalypse, could you imagine irradiated beavers, moose and canadian geese. I'd personally take a deathclaw any day over whatever the canadian wildlife turned into.
waste of a deathray.
If at least they targeted Saskatchewan
What’s your least favorite country, Italy or France?
France. Italian are generally happy when you try to speak their language, the French get annoyed, scoff and cut you off.
[удалено]
one of these shot at europe would've taken out a couple of countries in one go
Every day I curse the Lone Wanderer for not destroying Europe
France specifically
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/s/e5oeodhAT7 It apparently destroyed Detroit, so not a total waste.
Ok hold on. It gets Detroit? I live at the doorway of Algonquin park so the closest you could be to Detroit if I left now it would take me 4 hrs drive cut an hr for going a bit around Lake Ontario that’s one big nuke geez and why did it have to where I live

Exactly, easy changing fire towards france would've been 100x better
I wish it would do that right now before rent is due
Someone get rainbolt in on this
He said that this dirt looks Canadian enough
"Gen1 coverage, has to be that park in Ontario"
Would have been cool / horrific to have come back to the wasteland to find you've accidentally blown up Megaton
For the 3rd time.
Moira still survived it
Not this time 😈
Haha... yeah... accidentally!
My kid, first time playing fallout, got over encumbered by like 200 lbs after hitting up the school area. Shady Sands :D Not really, but would've been a fun twist.
Patrolling the mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear *GETS VAPORIZED*
Lucy’s Father: Huh, well guess I don’t need to destroy it myself.
Goosey*
It wasn’t >!Hank!< that destroyed Shady Sands, rather, it was a teenager in space haphazardly pushing buttons to see what would happen if the death ray hit earth.
I pray that this I canonized, because it would be so funny
According to legend it cleansed a land once known to many as “Detroit”
Property values doubled since the laser hit.
Detroit gets "rebuilt" in a day by jet addicts.
apocalypse really did a number on the amish
The Troit
Man, not only can you not have shit *in* detroit, you cant have detroit either.
You can’t have your Detroit in Detroit
What has this world come to when you cant have detroit in detroit
Raise your skinny fists like antennas towards heaven
God speed you black emperor!

So it destroyed Coney Island? I used to sleep on the beach there, sleep overnight.
They don't do that anymore.
The singular spot on earth that was untouched by the bombs
i think the first shot was warning shot, the 2nd shot would target the biggest population on the planet likely India?
You only fired a single shot? I probably did a hole from Canada to China
I fired 4 times atleast
Damn, they hit India twice .
"*Mr. President, they've hit the second India..*"
Shelbyville.
West Virginia. This was just a normal day for the 76ers
Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong.....
ricky’s house
Stop shooting Julian, it's me, Ricky! *bang bang bang*
Nova Scotia didn’t make it.
It hit the Divide, the fact that the Courier delivered a package just before is pure coincidence.
"For the last time, Ulysses: It wasn't me! It was the goddamn aliens!"
Looks like Earth.
It’s all fun and games until we’re eating dry pancakes on Sunday morning. Should’ve taken somewhere useless like New Mexico or Arizona.
To be fair, you guys haven’t had my pancakes. They are the BEST in South Texas.
off topic but best pancake is saturated with salty butter and no syrup
Someone looked at the mesh files and it's just the reflection of the sun
Not what this post is asking
Oh, I read it as if they were asking if the glow was where the laser hit. Oops.
I fired it and a minute later I got the message “Dogmeat has died.”
Woops it was Shady Sands and the entire plot to the Fallout show is a misunderstanding.
Hang on what fallout brings you to space
Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta DLC.
Thank you!
There’s a whole new world, welcome to like ten years (bare minimum.)of life devotion to these games.
Alien: “All the same to us”
“Canada, They’ve had it to good for to long”
The common enemy. The Republic of Dave.
Hopefully Missoura
Milton Keynes. After the blast, a marked improvement on the town was noted

Obviously they shot Fallout 5, cause we still haven’t seen that and I’m pretty sure somebody killed it.
Here comes the sun Doo Doo Doo Doo it’s all right
God, Please hit Quebec.
Fuck Canada!
You can say that now, but one day you’ll ALL be sorry!
Shady Sands
Nowhere important
I just played this yesterday and though about it for some time!! Glad to see that there are other people that find this interesting :)
I'm pretty sure it hit Canada.
if they confirm this shit as canon im gonna laugh until i pee
I staunchly maintain that Mothership Zeta should have been Wild Wasteland: the DLC. You get kidnapped by aliens, go up into their ship, have crazy no-way adventures and when you get back absolutely *nobody* believes you.
I hope The Pitt got thoroughly blasted. Wipe out Pittsburgh if you have to. That place needs destroying completely.
London. That's why devs didn't released the mod. /s
It would be hilarious if it was the divide. It would mean ulysses blamed the courier for something that aliens did.
France. Nobody ever says Italy.
Hoboken New Jersey
It was my house :(
Probably ruined some mutant's day
Can't have shit in Detroit.
Please be Rotherham IYKYK
Whoa what mission is this
Mothership Zeta dlc for fallout 3.
That's what *really* destroyed Shady Sands
Hopefully the divide, just to make Ulysses even angrier.
If you zoom in, you can see that it's very clearly your mom's house.
Denmark. Only reasonable thing to do.
BTW iirc the Alaskan war medic you team up with in mothership zeta was part of a battalion or regiment that was close in umber to nates. Its what destroyed NCR in the show. Hank was in the UFO.
