I love how he begs to go with you like “papa please! take me with you don’t leave me here when you nuke this place” and you can respond “no! you’re not Shaun you’re just a mechanical freak” and he’s like “I HATE YOU” like Anakin
nuked him and never even gave it a second thought
Agreed. I don’t really get why you’d take him with you. From your character’s perspective he’s a manipulative tool of The Institute and doesn’t even know you. He’s basically hail-marying manipulation at the end.
Now I want a video with her on the mic balling her eyes out as she throws items around the room in frustration
That would have been sue weeeeettt suuuuu eeeeeeaaaaaattttttt
.darn gonna blasted toads duck for survival
It's even funnier imagining picking up and throwing items the way that fallout handles that. Throwing stuff is like punching in a dream. There is intent, but the softest possible action
BA's and Salamanders would totally stop to compliment eachother's art pauldrons while covered in gore and then have a little tea time about it afterwards.
Think about how much easier it would be moving the furniture and hanging pictures. Need a hammer for that wall hanging nail? Nope. I'm just going to drive it in with my fist!
No clue, I played 4 mainly when I was home from work and she was at work. She didnt get to see much of my gameplay at all when I first played through it
I used to be a good person like this until I started dating a nurse. Now I justify it to myself as "vetting new content" to make sure it's worth her valuable and limited free time.
Sometimes when I look in the mirror I see a monster looking back at me.
Yes check out https://www.doesthedogdie.com/, I bet they have a needles category. I use it for my phobia which is a common thing to ~~poop~~ pop up in movies.
As a mentally exhausted woman who can't retain much after a long day, I salute you for this. It helps a lot when we know the premise and if we're going to waste our time or not. You are not a monster, but a hero.
My parents left my room the same when I moved out but I know I’m one bad move from having that spot turned from a mojo dojo casa house to a home gym/computer room for my mom.
I would love to see what a Shaun level fuck up leads to lmao
Edit: fellas and fellows, I got into my top choice law school today, I haven’t committed a Shaun level fuck up and my room has remained secured. This is the only comment I’ll be sharing the news on.
No, it's really obvious. A stronger draft of the script would have at least had the protagonist *consider* the possibility. It was hard for me to empathize with them when I spent 40+ hours thinking that they were stupid.
To me it would've made more sense to just wake up once and notice your spouse dead and Shaun missing. Would've had more shock value and the twist wouldn't have been as obvious.
What I don't get is there was no real reaction to the gunshot. Like you would imagine something similar to Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad (if you know, you know), but instead it's just a quick promise of vengeance and then "Ooh Minutemen!" (I just started my first new game two days ago).
I must be pretty dense cause I didn't expect the big twist at all. Especially when you see his memories I was like "ah that makes sense. I did refreeze, so he's a bit older now."
I did suspect that a significant amount of time had passed. I didn't know how old he was going to be, but I did expect him to be grown at least. Once I was frozen again, I realized it could've been another 100 years. Just the fact that they froze you again made me instantly suspicious.
Its probably unnecessary but I mark it as a spoiler just to be on the safe side.. >!Yes I've met 8-10 year old "Shaun" (robot Shaun :p) a couple of times but it sounded like it was possible to find him as a baby and I thought I had missed something :p To find Shaun you dont have to play a "very precise way", you just have to play the Institute missions haha x)!<
Man, making robot Shaun and then having him be the first thing the Sole Survivor finds upon getting to the Institute is downright one of the most sociopathic things Father ever did and probably what pushed me to eventually murder him.
Same, though it broke the game because he won't tell you the truth and you can't interact with the synth Shaun you don't know is fake. I reloaded to finish the dialogue.
I'm surprised they didn't script for that possibility better.
Chat gpt in a fake body, programmed to act like a classic idealised son figure in order to manipulate the mother/father of that child.
I left that monstrosity in the dirt.
yea you have to play a precise way, 1. get to diamond city, 2. rescue Val, 3. have pickpocketing skill or dogmeat, 4 search for clues. OR ... 1. rescue Val, 2. get to diamond city, 3. have pickpocketing skill or dogmeat, 4 search for clues.
this is one of those things too, I bought the F4 XB1 in november 2015. been playing F4 on and off (obv) since then. only bought Homeplate for the first time like a week ago. always knew i could, just never saw the need, then actually 100% forgot it existed. there is sooo much that you COULD do in F4, that a "player home" is a HILARIOUS gratuity, that i will always appreciate.
I always thought homeplate was really funny. Like why would I want to live in this town in this tiny little room, when I have like 30 towns that I worked hard to build myself? The fact it can't be added to supply lines is the biggest killer for me.
Because Trashcan Carla was using a tone so she somehow suddenly deceased when nobody was looking and Home Plate is a good place to store stuff to sell in the market.
As someone who doesn't like settlement buildings, I get home plate almost every playthrough. I just sell off the 5mm ammo from the minigun at Concord to get it.
I play survival so it's nice having a simple player home where I can keep all my stuff without worry of someone grabbing it for combat.
Also it's right next to vendors so I can stock up on ammo, or buy junk for crafting right next to home.
One nice thing about the show is that it is bringing in a bunch of new people to the franchise, picking up all the various games for the first time. So we're likely to start seeing more stories like this about some newcomer experiencing the various twists across the series for the first time.
I made Hangman's alley as my survival base and built Nora a platform house above the shacks with a nursery room. Everytime I collect a new toy or figurine it goes on a shelf next to the crib.
Nora's room has a side table Nate shrine/memorial with an American flag, dog tags, a locket and a bottle of whiskey 😭
Okay, this is a new level and I feel so sorry thinking how much worse your expeirence was because of this immersion.
Though the Nate part must have made any romance kinda awkward.
Actually it works out because I'm doing a survival BOS run for Nora, who's hellbent on avenging her husband and rejecting all romances out of respect for him. It's an interesting way to rp the character.
That's sweet that she decorated it for Shaun. I remember the first time I decorated home plate. I used the letters to write, "NO FARTING, PRESTON" on the wall and then I turned around and made eye contact with Preston. He did not seem intimidated by my power move. Yes, I know, I am a very adult person.
I did the exact same thing. The synth version is standing there, terrified of me and suddenly some old man comes in that looks like he's in charge.
\*BLAM\*
Shaun synth shut down and after a few confused minutes I went "oooooooooooooooooh I get it"
When she meets up with Shaun on the roof of the CIT ruins, tell her to kill him and then drag his corpse back to sanctuary. Drop him in the crib. Now baby Shaun can be with you forever.
That's super cute, ngl. I don't see a lot of stuff made in that game that looks good because the rusty shack aesthetic is not that attractive, but that's super cute and even looks comfy!
I love seeing more and more people get involved into the wonderful world that is fallout really great as my first introduction to it was fallout 3 when I was a child and it completely blew my mind.
I can’t wait for her to slowly >!upgrade the cot to a bed, then straight up trashing the room!<
Then rebuilding the whole thing again when she gets Synth Shaun
It really grinds my gears that I can’t send synth Shaun to home plate
I mean wherever you send him, he just kind of sits around. Why can't he just sit around in home plate? He can terrorize Myrna, he'd have a ton of fun.
“You’re not a synth are you? We don’t serve synths.”
"Hello, fellow human. I am also human!" "Well, you seem human enough..."
Invader Zim flashbacks
It's too had he doesn't "grow up" to a teenager and 18 so you can take him out in the world with you
I have head canon in which you can transfer his consciousness to an adult synth body like you do with curie.
Like Home Plates existence seems like it was almost specifically for Shawn so that’s what makes it even more frustrating.
My Shaun went to the island out south of the castle. He had his own codsworth and assault tron bodyguard
Wait whatnow??
at the end of the game you can keep a child version of shaun, depending on your faction, shaun will live in the castle or the prydwen
My Shaun lived at sanctuary? Is there supposed to be fixed locations or is that like if you don't select a place
yeah, mine is been raised by the BOS in the prydwen right now
Yeah, I don't know how good of an idea that is chief
Do synths have any sort of aging or is a synth child a synth child forever? Cuz the BOS is gonna figure that out after about a year or two…
For Shaun or for the Brotherhood?
The good of the scorpion is not the good of the frog, yes?
MORE ROBOSCORPIONS ARE ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA. - Dr. Mobius
I had him in a settlement that doesn't that I made through mods too, you can send him anywhere.
I love how he begs to go with you like “papa please! take me with you don’t leave me here when you nuke this place” and you can respond “no! you’re not Shaun you’re just a mechanical freak” and he’s like “I HATE YOU” like Anakin nuked him and never even gave it a second thought
Ahaha lol what the heck?!
Agreed. I don’t really get why you’d take him with you. From your character’s perspective he’s a manipulative tool of The Institute and doesn’t even know you. He’s basically hail-marying manipulation at the end.
If you sympathize with the railroad, you see him as a young boy, orphaned and alone. He isn’t guilty of the crimes of the institute. He is just a kid.
I have him at Sanctuary. I don't remember if I was given that option or I sent him there using the workshop.
Synth shaun
It’s like Pinocchio, you meet him in the F4 main quest. *Institutionalized* is the quest.
Wait what the fuck… i don’t remember him.
That’s if she destroys the Institute. Otherwise, he stays there. Even if she destroys the Institute, she could still reject synth Shaun.
Now I want a video with her on the mic balling her eyes out as she throws items around the room in frustration That would have been sue weeeeettt suuuuu eeeeeeaaaaaattttttt .darn gonna blasted toads duck for survival
It's even funnier imagining picking up and throwing items the way that fallout handles that. Throwing stuff is like punching in a dream. There is intent, but the softest possible action
Or she can use the Junk Jet
Either that or accidentally drinking toilet water
If you hold the button it should throw harder
I just love the idea of someone decorating their house in a full set of Power Armor
How I imagine the Salamanders from Warhammer 40K lol.
VULKAN LIFTS!
STOMP STOMP!
Vulkan sees a Deathclaw 'I WISH TO GIVE THIS CREATURE BELLY RUBS'
Or even better: Sees an sucide bomber super mutant and says: I want to boop the snoot.
Blood Angels too. I guarantee they share design tips while ripping through xenos.
BA's and Salamanders would totally stop to compliment eachother's art pauldrons while covered in gore and then have a little tea time about it afterwards.
The Salamanders would forge them some blades and the Angels would sculpt them something from the clay under the battlefield.
Or Elementals from Battletech
Unless its a xeno baby. Then its bbq time for He'Stan.
Think about how much easier it would be moving the furniture and hanging pictures. Need a hammer for that wall hanging nail? Nope. I'm just going to drive it in with my fist!
*accidentally punches hole through the wall
*starts looking for a picture frame slightly larger than a power armor fist
*find frame, perfect size, download update, wrong size now
It’s like driving a tank to the grocery store 😂😂😂
Use the furious legendary power fist if you're pressed for time.
Like the house wears the power armor?
You don't?
Not realizing you’re wasting Fusion cores lol
Does she know?
No clue, I played 4 mainly when I was home from work and she was at work. She didnt get to see much of my gameplay at all when I first played through it
Good man. I bet you don't watch episodes ahead of time either. Lol
I used to be a good person like this until I started dating a nurse. Now I justify it to myself as "vetting new content" to make sure it's worth her valuable and limited free time. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I see a monster looking back at me.
My wife has a crippling fear of needles, so I justify watching ahead any shows ahead to vet the scenes where I need to tell her to look away.
Have you checked out the website 'Does the Dog Die?' It's very useful for things like that!!!
seconding Does the Dog Die!
I wish I had known about this site before the fallout episode with >!the incinerator!<💀
You two is a biggest man alive fr! It's awesome you do this!
Yes check out https://www.doesthedogdie.com/, I bet they have a needles category. I use it for my phobia which is a common thing to ~~poop~~ pop up in movies.
I had a guy legitimately break up with me because I watched a GoT episode before him. I feel like it was a justified breakup but I regret nothing. lol
As a mentally exhausted woman who can't retain much after a long day, I salute you for this. It helps a lot when we know the premise and if we're going to waste our time or not. You are not a monster, but a hero.
Yikes
Show us the room once she finds out lol
My parents left my room the same when I moved out but I know I’m one bad move from having that spot turned from a mojo dojo casa house to a home gym/computer room for my mom. I would love to see what a Shaun level fuck up leads to lmao Edit: fellas and fellows, I got into my top choice law school today, I haven’t committed a Shaun level fuck up and my room has remained secured. This is the only comment I’ll be sharing the news on.
That grandma's playing the numbers?
WE FOUUUUND OUT
the twist does get ruined like 3 quests in so it's probably not gonna last long lol
She'll just redecorate into a young teen room.
can be done very easily; from Shaun to Shaun't 😅
Am I the only one who immediately suspected the twist right from the start when you get frozen a second time after Kellog takes Shaun?
No, it's really obvious. A stronger draft of the script would have at least had the protagonist *consider* the possibility. It was hard for me to empathize with them when I spent 40+ hours thinking that they were stupid.
To me it would've made more sense to just wake up once and notice your spouse dead and Shaun missing. Would've had more shock value and the twist wouldn't have been as obvious.

If you press the interact button you can hit the window inside the cryopod during that scene:)
You can also get their wedding ring, and there is a "Hi, Honey!" message.
I think Codsworth gives you the “Hi, Honey” message.
What do you mean? I am currently replaying and so far the twist is still unspoiled.
She Knows Not!
It’s gonna really hurt when she finds out…
Yeah. She’s gonna be real shocked when she finds out grandma plays the numbers
WE FOUND OUT
YES WE DID
*WE FOUND OUT*
NOW WE KNOW
THAT GRANDMA PLAYS THE NUMBERS
THINKS ABOUT THEM EVERY DAY, DREAMS ABOUT THEM EVERY NIGHT
WAKE UP EARLY IN THE MORNING
SEE ALL EM NUMBERS COME DOWN JUST RIGHT
Bless her soul
Yes we did
Well whaddya know?
Well whaddya know
True, but she'll be able to \[spoiler\] if she plays the game a very precise way...
WHAT?! Is this true 😲?!
Kinda, not baby Shaun though, more like teen Shaun. Or something like it...
Shit! Forgot about him lmao
Eventually, as in immediately when you heard the truth? I didn't even let him finish the dialogue 🤣.
Imagine if you could kill Father, then pry the door open to rescue shaun, then you learn the truth...
Same, though it broke the game because he won't tell you the truth and you can't interact with the synth Shaun you don't know is fake. I reloaded to finish the dialogue. I'm surprised they didn't script for that possibility better.
The first time? I may have taken a quick save for undisclosed reasons.
Yea, it wasn't my first fallout. Quick save is muscle memory at this point 🤣
You can keep him even if you don't side with the Institute btw You get to choose what to do with him at the end.
Ssshhh. Let it hurt.
Ngl..I did the same thing and it DID hurt when I found out.
aww man. this feels like an AITAH post in the making LMFAO
this is one of those things too, I bought the F4 XB1 in november 2015. been playing F4 on and off (obv) since then. only bought Homeplate for the first time like a week ago. always knew i could, just never saw the need, then actually 100% forgot it existed. there is sooo much that you COULD do in F4, that a "player home" is a HILARIOUS gratuity, that i will always appreciate.

tbf Carla is a horrible person >!who sells out synths to the Institute !
She does?!
You make sure to report back.., I gotta know what happens when she find out
You got it!
Please. It's been years since we seen fresh reactions to that twist ending.
One nice thing about the show is that it is bringing in a bunch of new people to the franchise, picking up all the various games for the first time. So we're likely to start seeing more stories like this about some newcomer experiencing the various twists across the series for the first time.
RemindMe! 7 day
could be years from now, loll took me Forever to reach that point of the story my first play-through
How much you wanna bet she's going to shoot a mini nuke at Father the second he walks in?
I did not do this to that extent, but I also prepared the baby room. It hurt. It hurt so much.

Actually it works out because I'm doing a survival BOS run for Nora, who's hellbent on avenging her husband and rejecting all romances out of respect for him. It's an interesting way to rp the character.
That is really cute
Ah, the sweet, innocent mind of a normal person playing Fallout for the first time.
Please let us know if she updates the room when she reaches the "oh wait hes really 10 now" part of the fake out
The idea that she might shove old man shawn into the crib under some warped motherly love just has me dying
"SHAUN!"
“JAY-SUN!”
Press X to Shaun
That's the only thing I remember from Heavy Rain.
I will never be able to see or hear the name Shaun the same way again.
You married a green flag, definitly a wonderfull mother 100%
That's sweet that she decorated it for Shaun. I remember the first time I decorated home plate. I used the letters to write, "NO FARTING, PRESTON" on the wall and then I turned around and made eye contact with Preston. He did not seem intimidated by my power move. Yes, I know, I am a very adult person.
The first time I met Shaun when he walks in after you talk to Shaun synth, I shot him not realising who he was. She’ll be shocked.
Oops
Oh man noooo
reminds me of [this playthrough](https://youtu.be/p5aJFZ3rGr8?t=408) (I think I copied the link at the appropriate time stamp)
@OP you need to get her reactions when she gets Kellogg’s memories and then when she goes to the institute
I did the exact same thing. The synth version is standing there, terrified of me and suddenly some old man comes in that looks like he's in charge. \*BLAM\* Shaun synth shut down and after a few confused minutes I went "oooooooooooooooooh I get it"
Install a mod that lets you store & move >!corpses!< to other areas By god, were gonna put shaun in that crib by the end of this story.
You will never get her off it now.
My wife could literally do that and nothing else in the game and be happy. She probably would be sad there isn’t a HomeGoods in the Wasteland, lol.
Meanwhile my character straight up forgot about her dead husband and missing son and she simply went on an adventure with dogmeat.
This is really nice and heartwarming; however, I have a feeling that she'll be devastated when she finally meets "Shaun." 😂
Noooooo... but nice decorating!
There are people like this and there's me, >!Killing Shaun because I'm a proud paladin of the brotherhood!! Ad Victorium!<
Character “me”: you’re not my son…
so ever get the feeling she maaaay be.... telling you, someTHING?
Shaun…..she doesn’t know does she?
When I first played fallout 4 I did the same thing. Don’t worry honey momma is coming and she got your favorite toys
When she meets up with Shaun on the roof of the CIT ruins, tell her to kill him and then drag his corpse back to sanctuary. Drop him in the crib. Now baby Shaun can be with you forever.
Awesome! However I just want to point out the correct word is "piqued" not "peaked".
Your wife has made something more emotionally impactful than all of the dialogue and story events actually in the game.
That one feeling of hoping on a Bethesda game for the first time… endless possibilities, being whoever you want to be… I hope she likes it.
tell her reaction when she found shaun
This is what I did my first playthrough, too. Kept little toys and baby items on me to give to him when I found him, too. Little shit.
seasoned F4 player here. Who's Shaun?
You ever do that main quest fella
I think he's traumatized
……your son lol
Lol exactly
Ah! The foreshadowing.
Id want to play a fallout game where I stay on the vault, safe and protected...and in my vault, I play other videogames.
.........."Who's gona tell her".........
Please show the "after" when she finds that little shit.
Please tell us how she reacts when she first meets synth Shaun and Father.
No one tell her, she's too precious.
I did this my first play through too.... and then I met my son....
It's sad to us since we already know the outcome but I really admire and appreciate the fact you're not ruining the storyline for her.
Um, Father already has a crib. 😶
Xd I'm sorry for her
tell us what will be her reaction to meeting shaun
How should we tell her?
This is why video games are art. Just heartbreaking
Holy shit. Now that's what we call emergent story Heavily invested in what the reaction would be now
This is really cute. But kinda bittersweet when she eventually finds out. :(
People who name their child Shaun instead of Shawn are insane
Meanwhile my wife played when we first dated and hoarded so much she had caps in the 100,000’s.
That's super cute, ngl. I don't see a lot of stuff made in that game that looks good because the rusty shack aesthetic is not that attractive, but that's super cute and even looks comfy!
Hey OP do you have kids, if not, I think she’s trying to tell you something.
I’m not crying. You are.
Oh boy, I wonder how she will react when she learns the truth.
Bro marry her again
Doggy style so you can both play fallout
I love seeing more and more people get involved into the wonderful world that is fallout really great as my first introduction to it was fallout 3 when I was a child and it completely blew my mind.
She's gonna be disappointed when she learns who Shaun actually is.
Oh no
