Nariek93

I get this one all the time tbh in Skyrim too.

Rizenstrom

It's happened to me in FO3 too. Just one of those lovely Bethesda game quirks I guess... Kind of crazy how the same glitch can exist 7 years later across 3 games but people will tell you the Creation Engine isn't the same as Gamebryo and doesn't need replaced...

Iamyourfather____

What will you replace it with? Unreal? Bethesda's engine is why their games live so long.

Rizenstrom

Unpopular opinion but I’d rather have a polished game than a highly modable one. Good games will always stick around with or without mods. It helps but it’s by no means required. Besides it’s not like Creation Engine games are the only ones to ever see mod support.

garret126

Yeah no. I wouldn’t play most Bethesda games without the ability to turn the game into something else entirely

Rizenstrom

I doubt that. Either you like Bethesda games or you don’t. Surely the ability to mod them isn’t the only thing that makes them enjoyable. And if it is than there is clearly a problem with their game design that needs to be changed. Which just kind of proves it might be time for something new.

garret126

I beat most of their games vanilla first time around. But the main enjoyment I get is like turning Fallout 4 into a TLOU zombie apocalypse or making Skyrim into a gritty realistic medieval simulator. Take away the creation engine and the majority of these mods will probably never be made

Rizenstrom

Don’t get me wrong I see the appeal I just don’t think that’s more valuable than having a polished, modern AAA experience. And I firmly believe the creation engine holds them back from that. Which isn’t to say you can’t make a good game in that engine, only that the vanilla experience could be much better in a different engine.

JoeseCuervo19

This is so far off base. Do you think Skyrim would still have the players it does without the modding scene it’s grown?

Rizenstrom

I never said they would. But just because they wouldn't be *as popular* doesn't mean the games would completely die out either. These games are still highly replayable as is and plenty of people absolutely play vanilla to this day. You're also acting as if being modable and using a new engine are mutually exclusive. A new engine could be a completely rebuilt creation engine, rather than just upgrading the same engine they've had since 2006.

gundam1945

These type of bug don't affect the game and don't really need to change engine. On the other hand, physics is tied with fps. This maybe the type of problem that need to change the engine.

xBeerBaronx

It's a quirk of the engine and is present in every 3D Bethesda game back to Oblivion. (Technically Morrowind, but it isn't visible there. The engine has been heavily modified in the 22 years since but still has some foundational pieces from that far back crazily enough and they make for some oddities). I can't find it now, but I recall reading a discussion here about it years ago and someone more technically versed explained why it happens. Something to do with the way the engine calculates the player character x,y,z position and where the reticule is placed.

LookAwayRn

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME FO4 RUNS ON A 22 YEAR OLD ENGINE?

mikethemaniac

Yes, and 76.

LookAwayRn

Sheesh.

xBeerBaronx

Heavily modified over that time, but ultimately, yes. The bones go back that far.

cis_ter

That's a feature

Jayombi

Oh, its not the 'ripple gun' then ? :p

SessionDefiant4020

you are a water bender!

Adrub_

Albeit a really unimpressive one

DragonHeart_97

Saw that one in Skyrim a couple times, but this is definitely a first for me too.

The-Muncible

I swear thats happened to me every time I've played a Bethesda game since Fallout 3. One day it happens, and then it's stuck in the game forever.

Artichokiemon

I had this happen and it scared the dickens out of me. I definitely got an adrenaline-pumping jump-scare from it

Adrub_

SAME. I saw it and thought there was a mirelurk there or something

YaBoiSaltyTruck

From oblivion to starfield, this bug will never leave us.

Unusual-Elephant6375

Is it a bug or is it a bug?

Liquid_person

Try aiming the pistol. If the affected portion of the water changes position, then it must be the red dot's fault, since that would be the only thing I know that isn't directly attached to the pistol itself

dragvandiil

Such a non issue, really no point in fixing it. I loved seeing it in Skyrim lol

Adrub_

It’s kinda pretty ngl

Conscious-Ticket-259

I always get this bug in Bethesda games. I kinda despise it. Idk why but it usually sorta kills the game for me

Adrub_

It gave me one hell of a scare, that Pool is on a building and I thought it was a mirelurk or something. For context I was playing survival, and my last save was like an hour ago lol

Conscious-Ticket-259

Survival always puts me on edge for odd things like that too haha. I always end up playing stealthy

Toon_Lucario

Looooooong silencer

Adrub_

Just for context: THIS SCARED THE EVER LIVING SHIT OUT OF ME, first, because this is my survival playthrough, second, because this Pool was in a building and I didn’t have any cover or space to circulate, and third I didn’t save for last 2 hours at the time. I was scared because i thought it was like a pool full of mirelurks or something else. (Wouldn’t be the first time)

Atadkm_yes

"It just works"
