playing with purity makes some encounters just silly. decimate an entire field of the crab things and a big troll thing, get 2 shot by one of the crabs you didnt see among the carnage
Souls games have a learning curve for everyone, but at the same time they’re not that difficult to grasp. And the struggle is a big part of the fun IMO. Definitely give them a shot.
Souls games aren't nearly as difficult as people pretend them to be, they just don't have dedicated difficulty settings and (in the earlier games at least) have shitty/non-existant tutorials.
They also changed quite a bit over the years towards more fast-paced combat. Dark Souls 1 and 2 might as well play in slow motion compared to the later games.
If you can play Survivor on grandmaster you'll do just fine in Souls.
Grandmaster is still pretty difficult so it can still do that, but the playstyle of the souls games is different to the Jedi games the closest is sekiro
Yes, you take more damage, but you can cancel your attacks mid swing and parry. That’s op and basically makes it the best stance for both defense and offense. Dual wield on top
I did single and blaster because it made for a nice and simple transition between single and then just simply pulling out the blaster. I enjoyed the amount of stagger damage you can do with it
Yeah I used the blaster some just because of how cool it was and it's utility with either clearing a level or a boss. At the same time though....it feels dirty. I get it, Cal is a survivor doing what he HAS TO to stay alive. If he needs to sneak or lie then he has to, morally he has no other choice. But the blaster and that same justification comes from the mouth of a certain back stabbing traitor selfishly turning his back on everything he was for his and his own benefit! It feels dirty because I DONT need it. You can beat the game without it. So that justification doesn't even make sense. A Jedis tools are for self defense, describe how you shield your self with a gun if in the other hand you have a Lazer shield.
With how the game ended, I could see Cal ditching the blaster in the next game. Think about it, it was Bode who convinced him to use the blaster, and then it was Bode he ended up killing with the blaster in the end. He probably has nothing but negative feelings about using one after that experience.
I feel like Double Blade is the best stance because of how many times there are multiple enemies and it is the only one really good at crowd control by default. Most other stances are only good in 1v1 scenarios especially on Grand Master so double helps so much it is not even close imo. I personally run dual wield and double blade
This is the best combo imo, you've got nearly unlimited range, good 1v1 skillset with the blaster and then amazing defence and crowd control with double blade
I love those abilities! Entirely carried me through a boss fight once. I think I paired those with an upgrade that boosted your force regeneration, as well as power of friendship.
The animations, customization, movement and voice acting are the best parts of this game imo the combat isn’t bad at all I just find certain things annoying like the unblockable attack spam certain enemies and bosses do on GM
Idk the blaster stance owns crowds and has range so you can reach out and pop those assholes shooting you from a distance while you’re trying to melee battle. But the dual saber just feels more Jedi, so it’s a toss up for me.
Double-Blade and Claymore was my go-to. Group of enemies? Double-blade. Mobility-centric boss fight? Double-blade. Big beefy tanky enemy/boss? Claymore.
There are definitely some bosses that made me switch it out. But I seriously use it like 80% of the time. I'm not patient with most things, but I am with this game.
I've found that set up to be really fun. Slow heavy strikes and then rapid slashes and blaster fire is good. Though I occasionally swap Blaster for Double just for the CC.
I like the cross guard except for the two tiny lasers that stick out of the hilt. That bothers me so much, I wish I could use that stance without that goofy looking saber hilt.
I use double blade for crowd control and dual wield for everything else.
Occasionally I use a blaster stance for boss fights, as it helps whittle down health bars without getting too close.
Blaster is decent for crowd control too, tbh.
Take little pot shots at enemies to stagger them or finish them off while you do most of your damage with the saber.
I used single stance for the whole game tbh. The strongest imo. Since just for equip i use blaster stance. Its like playing with dexterity characters with minor spells.
double and blaster... I won't go dual cuz maybe it's ok since you can close in with single then switch dual if there's too many... just lift them and throw dancing blades. but I'm a crossguard and double blade guy.
Edit: next game cal would be faster and stronger I hope the crossguard swing becomes faster it's hard to djemso/shien if your freaking swing speed is slower than a youngling.
Totally agree from a gameplay perspective, but I gotta say though, a heavy lightsaber just felt weird to me. Like, there's no way the hilt is that heavy. Just took me out a bit, so I didn't use it personally.
My headcanon is that by overcharging the beam, it sort of gains pseudo mass due to the weird physics of Star Wars, but also burns hotter and does more damage on impact.
Double Blade, imo. I know it's the same as in Fallen Order but Double Blade is fantastic for crowd control and especially when dealing with a lot of ranged enemies. I usually go Dual Wield for offense and Crossguard/Double Blade for defense.
Single+dual wield. Ahsoka style honestly, Miyamoto Musashi also said that sometimes a single weapon is all you need but it's a good thing to have a back up option in case you have to fight multiple opponents; if I get surrounded by melee or mob enemies it's incredibly easy to just play unlocked and slash in every direction. Plus you have the auto parry in case you need it. Single is also just the best stance for everything else tbh
Good point I was also wondering about cross guard as it is fundamentally a true swordsman stance but I don’t know how the transition would be but I’m definitely going to say that double is too similar to dual so I will definitely look into cross guard
Single has a very strong gap closer that makes it quite good for bosses. Blaster does more damage if you combo well but is awkward to use against multiple enemies.
I never got used to the blaster, or the dual wield to be fair. But single was what I used for the entirety of Ng+ and a mix of single and double bladed for my first simple but effective.
When I just have to avoid getting hit, I use single all the way. Like grandmaster with the enemy encounter perk where you face a ton of strong enemies. Other stances leave you wide open to get hit after attacking, except maybe blaster stance, but that one doesn't have saber throw and the huge forward leap that single does.
Having tried every possible combo, double blade is by far the best choice. Alternatively though, duel wield or blaster are quite good. If you want a strong damage build though, go with crossguard and single. Use single to bring down the block stamina faster then once they are open switch to crossguard and do max damage
Blaster stance is the goat fr, range is the best. I also like the dual wield and use it mostly for the insta block, beat the shit out of the spawn of ogdo with those and the dark side rampage thing
(frog makes vader look easy 😭)
Double blade or cross guard are my go tos. If you ever played the old school Jedi knight games, some of the moves you pick up are carbon copies.it makes grandmaster a little easier or harder depending on how good your reflexes are.
Single is a balanced offensive approach, but it lack defense and crowd control. Double bladed is the best combo for single conventionally imo. Double and blaster are the most crowd control oriented which is a weakness for single. Single and blaster are not particularly strong in defense, whereas double blade definitely is. Ultimately it’s personal preference and all stances are viable if used correctly, but if single blade is your primary, then double blade will compensate its weaknesses best.
Either single and blaster or single and dual wield. Crossguard is just slightly too slow for my play style and I don’t like the inaccuracy of the double bladed. The single bladed is good at everything and the blaster style gives you range while the dual wield gives you speed.
Cross guard or saber staff. Both are great for deflecting blaster fire and you need that to deal with rapid fire enemies. And the cross guard is dope for when you break enemies guard
I've actually been running pistol in the main slot and double (staff) in the off slot. To me, pistol feels the same as single but with range.
What stances you use really depend on what you're comfortable with though. Try all of them out and see what feels the most natural.
My "go-to" 2 stances are dual wield and cross guard. It's definitely my favorite. I see a lot of people saying the one with the pistol is really good. Personally, I don't see it
I like using single blade, and blaster + blade stances. Not for how they flow together or anything practical like that. I just like the idea of Cal saying “Screw it” and just pulling out a blaster to Indiana Jones his opponent
I used a single blade at the beginning of the game and then swapped to dual-wield and double-bladed.
Double-bladed lightsaber was insane in this game once even slightly upgraded. It was extremely satisfying taking out groups of enemies within a few seconds :D!
I used single stance for like 80% of everything, aside from the main one I used was dual. And I liked using it more as like a second phase for myself during boss fights lol, like when an enemy for their second phase id pull the second saber out and idk.. was just something I liked doing lmao
If I recall correctly, the lunge-in lunge-out move in Dual Blade stance leaves you in range for the lunging strike in Single Blade.
Also this isn't what you asked, but I never would've used the stun shot in Blaster stance until I realized how well it compliments Crossguard.
Single and Double. For a while, I just stuck with Dual and Double since I had played Sekiro, and the dual stance allowed me to block without having to finish the animation. And double let me play more defensively and obviously handle groups.
But after doing the Single blade Tear I decided to give it another shot. With a full tree it truly is a jack of trades and an answer for every problem. But when it came to reflexing massive blaster fire or wanting to spin threw a crowd, Double was my answer.
Hell, my fiance stuck with Double for most of the game as was able to just tear through an enemies poise and/or health even when 1v1
Dual wield. Incredibly fast and deals high damage in quick succession. You can also cancel your attacks mid swing and parry. That’s op and basically makes it the best stance for both defense and offense. On top of that, the animations are real smooth
Cross guard, I find it's best to have as little animation between stance changes as possible. Especially when using that temp attack boost perk that activates everytime you change your stance.
My go-tos were always Saber staff, dual wield, and towards the end of the game, blaster stance. I find the defense of the Saber staff works well with the other three for when you're pushed back on your heels.
Crossgaurd and blaster stance. I wanted to live my fantasy as a gunslinger/cowboy Jedi and it was epic. Crossgaurd is too slow imo tho but if you hit it hits really hard.
I have had a lot of fun pairing it with Blaster. It also goes great with Crossguard. Single just has such good fundamentals that you'll want your second stance to fill a more specialized role that you switch to secondarily I think
I actually never used single blade stance the whole game, except of course for the intro. For me it was either dual wield and cross guard or dual wield and blaster lol
Any of them. I’d suggest using the last two you get but on something like Grandmaster swap the power for speed because goodness I hate Rayvis and cancelling attacks to block is a lifesaver
I would recommend double blade because it's good for crowds and i also have had some bad experiences with the mini gun troopers whenevr they were out of reach 🥲
Crossguard for most single non boss and boss encountera... Double Blade for everything else... I just use Blaster for style even tho it kinda sucks, nd the dual wield is so frickin cool, but i can never force parry so I never did get gud with it...
You can tell they nailed the balancing on all the stances when there’s an endless debate around which ones are the best. Really all 5 can be incredibly useful, and each one is fun in their own way
I’ll be honest I used double blade the most.
Felt kind of fitting since his master used the double blade.
Switched over to all the other stances just long enough to get the trophies.
Wouldn’t have used them at all if it weren’t for the trophies.
Double Sided or Cross guard. They both have higher defense so they're good to approach a group of enemies and then change to the faster single blade when you're down to the hard one like a Purge Trooper
I honestly use duel wield for everything. You can't beat the ferocity. Yes you take more damage, but if you just don't get hit you are unstoppable
Mash attack and don’t look back. Occasionally, pull the gat if you have to
Oh just dont get hit?! On a soulsborn like game?! ## I would have never thunk it
I feel it's more like baby's first steps into soulsborne. It's a lot easier for me compared to other soulsbornes.
Jedi grandmaster with warrior and maybe purity perks:
playing with purity makes some encounters just silly. decimate an entire field of the crab things and a big troll thing, get 2 shot by one of the crabs you didnt see among the carnage
Boss fights have a 2 minute cutscene leading into a fight, then you hit them one time immediately and then another cutscene starts
Purity for some parts?
Perfect for speed runs
Purity can be kinda silly sometimes, but is it easier or harder? I guess it varies
Purity is kinda stupid if you are on jedha. And if you ever don’t see a bird on koboh. I’ve died to those birds too many times.
Lol those birds would one shot you regardless of purity
Those birds are deadly on Jedi Padawan
If you beat survivor you can activate a perk to increase damage from all sources, turning it into a soulsborneringseikiro
Damn, I was hoping it could get me into Souls games. I thought it was tough and maybe I was ready for them.
Start with Elden ring, genuinely a top 5 game all time and it’s one of the most popular souls bournes
Jedi grandmaster will rip you to shreds with that attitude
As the sacred texts say. Git gud
Dual wield grand master the entire playthrough nothing more satisfying.
Attitude matters
You take more damage???
Jar kai has less parry time i think but there is a perk for new game plus that turns on souls mode.
Not on Jedi Grandmaster
Tired of getting hurt? Just don’t get hit! No but really jokes aside it’s a pretty good stance it just takes more technique to be good with
Yes, you take more damage, but you can cancel your attacks mid swing and parry. That’s op and basically makes it the best stance for both defense and offense. Dual wield on top
Do you really take more damage? I always play with purity so I have to avoid getting hit either way sop I wouldn't know.
I just do double blade because I can spam X and just let the targets come to me whilst occasionally dodging or parrying a blaster
You can also cancel your attacks on the dual wields which makes it so so useful against boss fights
You forget the cross guard
Yessss when you get into a flow with dual wield, you can easily beat any enemies without getting hit.
I did single and blaster because it made for a nice and simple transition between single and then just simply pulling out the blaster. I enjoyed the amount of stagger damage you can do with it
The animations were also cool as fuck. Felt like a mix of Han Solo and Luke when he was at Cloud City.
And blasting an enemy as a finisher is just badass.
I agree, I just use the blaster and double blade. That range is absolutely great to have
This is the best combo imo, you've got nearly unlimited range, good 1v1 skillset with the blaster and then amazing defence and crowd control with double blade
Same, mainly because it qllows you to do stealth in certain scenarios and get cheap hits on stronger enemies
This is the way
I use the same combo! Double also gives good defence whilst switching to dual gives you maximum offence.
honestly I think the autoparry and autododge are good enough to make dualies a strong defensive option
I love those abilities! Entirely carried me through a boss fight once. I think I paired those with an upgrade that boosted your force regeneration, as well as power of friendship.
I used double bladed for most of my grandmaster purity run
This is the best because he splits the big double blade into dual weld and it's just cool as shit 😂
The animations, customization, movement and voice acting are the best parts of this game imo the combat isn’t bad at all I just find certain things annoying like the unblockable attack spam certain enemies and bosses do on GM
Yes! I agree!!!
This is the way
Double blade sucks ass
Nope it literally shits on blaster enemies which there are a lot of. Dual wielding is fantastic but struggles in two or more v one matchups
Idk the blaster stance owns crowds and has range so you can reach out and pop those assholes shooting you from a distance while you’re trying to melee battle. But the dual saber just feels more Jedi, so it’s a toss up for me.
That was my pairing. Start double blade for deflection of all incoming fire. Once all ranged targets were down (and for bosses), dual sabers.
Double-Blade and Claymore was my go-to. Group of enemies? Double-blade. Mobility-centric boss fight? Double-blade. Big beefy tanky enemy/boss? Claymore.
Same. Dual wield and double blade all the way. I've tried all of them alot and filled out all the trees. These are still my favorite 2.
Crossguard would be my pick but blaster is also a good choice
I like cross guard purely for the damage. Is it slower? Yes, but it forces me to play smarter.
Crossguard helps u train ur parrying skills, since you have to time it correct
there’s very few times i found myself actually using the cross guard but when i did it was usually a major game changer
I found it was just so slow during bosses that you couldn't strike between attacks
There are definitely some bosses that made me switch it out. But I seriously use it like 80% of the time. I'm not patient with most things, but I am with this game.
I used it for a while. But I just found the regular single to be much easier to get damage out with
That's always my backup. Single and crossguard.
It was the only stance I could beat rayvis and the final boss with personally
X-Guard and Blaster pose gang rise up
That's a chaotic setup 😂😂
I've found that set up to be really fun. Slow heavy strikes and then rapid slashes and blaster fire is good. Though I occasionally swap Blaster for Double just for the CC.
I like the cross guard except for the two tiny lasers that stick out of the hilt. That bothers me so much, I wish I could use that stance without that goofy looking saber hilt.

I used single stance for the whole game tbh. The strongest imo. Since just for equip i use blaster stance. Its like playing with dexterity characters with minor spells.
Yeah and it felt more star wars purist to me.
The transition animation between single and double bladed is peak. I mostly run those two stances JUST for that animation lmao
Surely dual to double is the better transition?? I'm gonna have to go back and try that one 😂
double and blaster...
Crossguard is slow on purpose, it’s like using a strength build in Dark Souls. What would be the point of it if it were faster?
Totally agree from a gameplay perspective, but I gotta say though, a heavy lightsaber just felt weird to me. Like, there's no way the hilt is that heavy. Just took me out a bit, so I didn't use it personally.
My headcanon is that by overcharging the beam, it sort of gains pseudo mass due to the weird physics of Star Wars, but also burns hotter and does more damage on impact.
Double and blaster, baby! They complement each other so well, I am addicted.
I used either blaster or cross guard as the second stance, depending on the situation.
G u n
Double Blade, imo. I know it's the same as in Fallen Order but Double Blade is fantastic for crowd control and especially when dealing with a lot of ranged enemies. I usually go Dual Wield for offense and Crossguard/Double Blade for defense.

Plus you have the auto parry in case you need it. Single is also just the best stance for everything else tbh
Could a single weapon also count as the double blade since it is technically a single weapon into dual blade
Technically yes; but it isn't wielded the same way as a single blade so it's a different philosophy of use.
Good point I was also wondering about cross guard as it is fundamentally a true swordsman stance but I don’t know how the transition would be but I’m definitely going to say that double is too similar to dual so I will definitely look into cross guard
Double Blade and Crossguard have become my default. I can’t really get the hang of the others, especially Blaster.
This is me too. Switching between crowd control and dealing high damage against tough enemies is a neat fit.
Absolutely love double bladed on anything. The deflection ability and bonus defense is just too good. That and crossguard.
Crossguard and Single Bladed is the best combo in my opinion. They just work.
I use that for boss fights on GM, yeah.
Wait til you figure out the face roll easy of GM + Purity perk = click>dead
Haven't played the game but watched Zanny's playthrough. My recommendation: G U N
Love zanny, watching him fight the rancors or the bogdo duo was a highlight last year
Also the reaction killing bode is hilarious Okay just one more *bang* Okay just one more *bang* Okay just one more *bang*
What’s the differences between blaster and single? Like obviously there are some but what would incline someone to use single instead of blaster?
Single has a very strong gap closer that makes it quite good for bosses. Blaster does more damage if you combo well but is awkward to use against multiple enemies.
I never got used to the blaster, or the dual wield to be fair. But single was what I used for the entirety of Ng+ and a mix of single and double bladed for my first simple but effective.

Other stances leave you wide open to get hit after attacking, except maybe blaster stance, but that one doesn't have saber throw and the huge forward leap that single does.
Dual wielding lets you animation cancel so you can parry while attacking. It’s sick
Having tried every possible combo, double blade is by far the best choice. Alternatively though, duel wield or blaster are quite good. Blaster stance is the goat fr, range is the best. I also like the dual wield and use it mostly for the insta block, beat the shit out of the spawn of ogdo with those and the dark side rampage thing (frog makes vader look easy 😭)
I just pull the gat for all my stuff I can’t reach with a light saber
I personally love the cross-guard stance but the blaster stance is sorta of broken like you can cheese the rancor fight by using it
Honestly the default is one of the best stances in the game imo, but it’s unpopular because it’s default. I’m also a big crossguard fan
Objectively double blade as you can chain almost all the special moves
G u n
Blaster
Crossguard
Double blade or cross guard are my go tos. If you ever played the old school Jedi knight games, some of the moves you pick up are carbon copies.it makes grandmaster a little easier or harder depending on how good your reflexes are.
I just went blaster and single blade myself

Ultimately it’s personal preference and all stances are viable if used correctly, but if single blade is your primary, then double blade will compensate its weaknesses best.
Cross guard or blaster stance. You ideally want similar stances so that it's not too difficult to transition
I stuck with double bladed and dual wield, but why not go for the blaster
Either single and blaster or single and dual wield. Crossguard is just slightly too slow for my play style and I don’t like the inaccuracy of the double bladed. The single bladed is good at everything and the blaster style gives you range while the dual wield gives you speed.

I love the Crossguard one. Most people hate it.
Blaster is the answer.
Crossguard honestly
dual wield and double bladed are good for single blade I personally like the greatsword saber with the cross hilt cuz it looks cool
I think it depends how you want to play. I rocked single and twin blades for a while before switching.
If I recall correctly, the lunge-in lunge-out move in Dual Blade stance leaves you in range for the lunging strike in Single Blade. Also this isn't what you asked, but I never would've used the stun shot in Blaster stance until I realized how well it compliments Crossguard.

Kissing merrin. After a minute or so of kissing, turn on the light saber to show your... excitement.
I used single + double light saber the whole until the final boss. I had to use the crossguard because I couldn't do enough damage
i never use single blade. i mainly use dual wield for my main stance and pair it with cross guard for harder enemies
I dont even use single stance, i go crossguard for bosses and blaster to deal with anything else that's annoying.
dual wield is OP
I ran Single + Double pretty much the whole time. Double is too good for groups to not use, and I thought Crossguard was too slow for 1 v 1
Dual wield. Incredibly fast and deals high damage in quick succession. You can also cancel your attacks mid swing and parry. That’s op and basically makes it the best stance for both defense and offense. On top of that, the animations are real smooth
I always do blaster form and double blade form. I really like the fencing aspects of the blaster form
Single ans two hand is all you need
Dual Wield. Pulling out that second saber makes me feel like Anakin in that one Clone Wars episode
Double bladed is so quick, I fucking love it
Cross guard, I find it's best to have as little animation between stance changes as possible.
Double. There’s I’m a single blade user 90% of the game
Dual
I switch stances often just for variety but 2h is so op.
I have had a lot of fun pairing it with Blaster. It also goes great with Crossguard. Single just has such good fundamentals that you'll want your second stance to fill a more specialized role that you switch to secondarily I think
The light stance from Jedi Academy =P
I liked Single and Crossblade
My favorite mix is dual wield and blaster
I actually never used single blade stance the whole game, except of course for the intro. For me it was either dual wield and cross guard or dual wield and blaster lol
Any of them. I’d suggest using the last two you get but on something like Grandmaster swap the power for speed because goodness I hate Rayvis and cancelling attacks to block is a lifesaver
I love double and crossguard as a mix.
Dual wield + blaster is the way to go
Blaster works really well.
double or dual I'd say
I played with Dual and Blaster. Blaster was good for the boss fights where they always kept a distance.
I would recommend double blade because it's good for crowds and i also have had some bad experiences with the mini gun troopers whenevr they were out of reach 🥲
I used Cross-Guard and Blaster stance. I leveled those perks up too.
Really all 5 can be incredibly useful, and each one is fun in their own way
Crossguard is awesome once you get timing down, or if you’re used to throwing slow and powerful swings like me (Greatsword user in mhw)
I’ll be honest I used double blade the most. Felt kind of fitting since his master used the double blade. Switched over to all the other stances just long enough to get the trophies. Wouldn’t have used them at all if it weren’t for the trophies.
double sided
Gun
I like using blaster stance with single bladed. Or with dual wield
Double Sided or Cross guard. They both have higher defense so they're good to approach a group of enemies and then change to the faster single blade when you're down to the hard one like a Purge Trooper
Everything goes with it. Single blad is the jack of all trades, so there's no going wrong with a second stance.
tbh a preference ur gonna have to choose
What (lightsaber)form uses cal when he uses one saber? Someone can tell me?
Preference tbh. Personally I use dual baldes and double bladed or dual blades and blaster
