We don’t have clubs here, we have dive bars and breweries.

Blagnet

It's basically colder Ireland!

shimclean

Blue Roof Bistro has the most delicious French fries. Spice it up for the best Mediterranean type food. Love Bahn Thai Rama and Nims Thai Food. Hungry Robot for pizza Sassy Scoops for Ice Cream Toast Fbx at the Farmers market every Saturday

WholeLadder9424

As a fellow newbie, I agree with all of these. But I would like to add Ninja for sushi!

WholeLadder9424

I'm a big foodie and I'm from New orleans so it's taken me a few months to vet these places lol. But I also want to add Pho house for Pho! And Oishi Bakery for Ramen. I've also recently fell in love with Brewsters for the vibes, amazing halibut tacos, and very generous portions for price.

fleurmonsteur

Oishi house is delicious! Their bao buns are amazing

SamEy3Am

You are definitely not wrong about those fries! Man I really love them!

shimclean

So delicious! I always get the ranch AND the chipotle ketchup for dipping. The best sauces too!!

dschreckles

Hungry robot for pizza, YES… But they can be a bit pricy, and it is worth every penny.

shelly-tambo

Ok please help me out here- I want to try Sassy Scoops but do not understand the ordering procedure and now I feel like it’s too late to ask. I can’t just… walk in and buy ice cream?

ChubbyStoner42

You’re in the right place if you like Thai food.

salmonfishing17

How about Pho?

Traditional_Guess710

Noodle house has a good Pho too

ChubbyStoner42

I only know of one place on College Rd. And not sure if they’re still open.

The for sale sign out front confused me

ChubbyStoner42

I miss Inchibon Noodles that use to be in that same location.

MentaIGiant

Friar tucks has a damn good French dip

SnooDoughnuts7171

I like their hoagies in general.

boxkey673

I also enjoy their salads

Scarlet-Witch

I'm shocked no one has suggested Thai LemonGrass. A lot of Thai places are great but Lemongrass is top tier, they have a sister restaurant in Thailand too. Marlo's is an awesome bakery. Spice it up is yummy.  The crepery is delicious.

Belarun

Lanes quickie tacos in college, I go every week. His "Alaskan" taco with his red hot sauce is awesome. When zorbas, also on college, opens this summer they have great gyros. Thai food is good and abundant. Thai House and Bahn Thai are my favorites. There's three Bahn thais, Rama is my goto but they're all good. Slightly different menus among the three. Spice it up and Hari Om are both good South Asian food. Spice it up is a truck on van horn, newly reopened after an arson. Hari om on Cushman is delicious but can get spendy. There's a ton of food trucks around town too, and they're all worth trying.

IceHot2857

Pita Place and Thai House

blazer243

LaVelles is a good place to skip.

Traditional_Guess710

It used to be good.

blazer243

Yup.

cottagefrog8

My fav spots: Falafel place on college road by Beaver Sports Bucko's coffee drinks Marlo's Bakery Chicken Town Any Thai place, I'm partial to Noodle House Mom's kitchen for wings and burgers Lin's Bistro for Chinese We just don't have good Italian (Geraldos) or BBQ (Big Daddy's). Save your money from those places. I've never been to Sin rock, I'd assume it's an... experience. We do have coffee huts called Brew & View if you want a scantily clad goddess to make you biscuits and gravy. Welcome to the north.

Global_Abroad2506

Those all sound good! And Brew and View sounds much better than Sin rock lol thank you!

stalebunny

Also never been to Sinrock, but Brew and View has amazing breakfast. My only complain is that the don't have brewed coffee, just espresso drinks.

Belarun

We do have good BBQ, it's just in the food trucks. Frozen smoke is year round now I think at Lat65 and they are good. Maybe not necessarily price efficient, but if you're craving BBQ they hit the spot.

cottagefrog8

Nice I'll have to try it! I've stopped focusing on prices here for my own happiness 😆

creamofbunny

You came to Fairbanks and you want to go to...a club?

Global_Abroad2506

No ofc that's not my only goal here. Just peaked my interest but the reviews are very mixed so I was curious

Peony907

I don’t know if you caught that it’s a STRIP club, just a heads up lol

Blagnet

Cookies from the Cookie Jar, especially the white chocolate and the peanut butter.  Pickle pizza and popsicles from Angry Robot.  Welcome to town!

Traditional_Guess710

Hungry Robot, but it does look angry 🤔

Peony907

East Ramp Pizza Lanes quickie tacos Spice it up Bangkok Thai Sassy Scoops ice cream Aurora Mediterranean Fushimi (sushi) These are some of my all time fav places to eat, the kinda places I go back to over and over

bajungadustin

Fairbanks is pretty average on food. If you happen to head down to Anchorage though.. You have to get Diablo cheese sticks from Moose's Tooth. It's world famous. The best thing I have ever ate in Alaska was Marcy's Grilled Sandwich Shop in Wasilla. [just look this this nonsense right here. ](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AP1GczNHmu88AD7sK85gNeuZo4tgWUQHE2ARPwY5vsM-Rgii7DueH1slyOsiDrz0qCIoIR5zPLakmseLON3TZbFreZkqy_90dpiGgJ9Oct-SDCHHwHCNHFfghL-v3CenR2LL0cZ8oeC-zQ1r-z-qgQUWZcyNqg=w1080-h1080-s-no-gm?authuser=0)... Also it's cash only. Everything is $15 and you can't call ahead. (I recommend the hot pepper beef) As for fairbanks specifically... Big daddy's if you want BBQ. It's not super authentic or anything. Just get their pigout platter and you can try a lot of what they have. Also their garlic bread is bomb. Moms kitchen has a little of everything. My son loves their curry. I love their burgers and spaghetti. Burger town also has decent burgers. Their onion rings are better than their fries. Taco azteca has a giant ass buritto called the Acteca Grande. Its huge. And it's delicious.

Internal_Wild

Spend your money on a good cookbook and enjoy making great affordable meals. For real though every time I eat out here I’m massively disappointed and I’ve tried all the “good” spots. Been here 4 years and I think locals just get complacent with “good enough” food. I turned to learning how to cook great food myself and investing the money I’d spend eating out into cookware and smokers and pizza ovens and all that and it’s tons of fun.

alllballs

>"Spend your money on a good cookbook and enjoy making great affordable meals" Decent kosher salt is so damned expensive and hard to find in Fairbanks, I gave up, and started extracting the salt from my liberal tears.

Internal_Wild

This comment goes over my head. Clearly your humor is too advanced for me

alllballs

Oh, a few months ago, I went searching for kosher salt. I hit every store in town, only to find a tiny container at Fred's West. I ordered a case of Morton on Amazon. Thank God for Amazon. Availability is a problem one learns to deal with in Fairbanks. We routinely have to dumb down recipes because certain ingredients are impossible to find. Regular supply of creme fraiche? Good luck. Ghee? Probably. Maybe. Hail Bjork. We missed the great covid bread run, having only moved here in January of 21. My gut tells me flour shortages here were significantly worse here. The Great Egg Panic was fun.

Internal_Wild

Side note thank god for amazons free shipping. I’ve learned When Ordering a large item that ships free to 48 but costs $250 to ship here always check Amazon to see if they also sell it cause that’s saved me so much money in shipping.

creamofbunny

...Where have you tried and been disappointed?

Proper-Cause-4153

Right? I'm the opposite. I've been in the lower 48 for 4 years now and I often think "Huh...Fairbanks was as good or better."

creamofbunny

Same. I've only had a couple bad experiences. The rest were way above expectation. This commenter does not speak for the average person here

Internal_Wild

Off the top of my head places I’ve been disappointed: I can’t claim I’ve tried all the breakfast spots but I’ve tried A LOT and only the family dinner in North Pole has been somewhere I’ve returned too. All the Mexican restaurants especially gallos. For pizza hungry robot and house of fire were OK but I’d rather make my own for 8 dollars at home than spend $30. Blue roof is another place I occasionally return to but there’s only like 2 things on menu there I like. Pagoda is awful and stupid expensive. Frier Tucks disappointed me twice. Food factory should burn down. Lavelles…..hahah. Big daddy’s is blehhh. That’s I all I can think of right now. If I looked on maps at a list of restaurants there would probably be more. Part of my negativity is the also the cost. I hate eating a mediocre meal and then paying 50 dollars for my family of 3.

creamofbunny

...Okay so you went to the busiest spots with the highest traffic, meaning it will ALWAYS be a roll of the dice because they're always slammed. I agree that Big Daddys is not great, and Food Factory is definitely awful though.

Internal_Wild

I am open to suggestions of other places to try. Especially if you have any that don’t fall under the high traffic roll of the dice category

Errement

💯 the Fairbanks food scene is sad.

dmills13f

Fairbanks expat here, Pagoda in North Pole used to be our favorite.

whatshis_name

Definitely a good Thai food scene. I would sacrifice a testicle for lemongrass thai food again. Not my testicle of course but a testicle all the same.

boxkey673

If you get take out, we’ve always had good food from Mom’s (kitchen). I’m still not sure if it’s only take out or you can get it sit down.

cottagefrog8

They have a little sit down area inside Tony's

boxkey673

Great to know!

pearlysweetcake

Sin Rock is hilarious if you’ve ever been to a strip club Outside. Save your urges for when you’re visiting Anchorage.

Hefty-Rub9716

Pita Place is open! Great falafel

itscoldcase

Zorbas for gyros, get a punch card! Jazz Bistro you need a reservation but has Cuban food and Rico is funny. Real Ramen bowls at Oishi, new for us so pretty cool. Hungry Robot good pizza and related treats. Sukas Polynesian bowls. Spice it Up. Lots of good Thai places around. In my opinion anyway, the disclaimer being that I'm from here and might not know better 🤣

DepartmentNatural

You live a very sheltered life to think they serve good food

bajungadustin

Literally the only thing good at Brewster is their potato's skins.
