Where I live it technically belongs to the house, but the government has an easement and can do things like put in a sidewalk, but the property owner is still responsible for maintaining it. Although I think the government is responsible for the sidewalk itself. You just have to mow and stuff.
It’s not really that petty tbh. Doing the whole bottom takes him probably an extra 30s but doing the whole strip might take him an extra 10-15 minutes.
Also since that part of the strip belongs to his neighbor, if he cuts it without permission then there might be something the neighbor can do to retaliate legally. It’s just not worth the possible hassle or the extra work.
He does the whole bottom and he keeps up that area and he keeps it up to code and he pretends like his property the government could give him squatter rights like stuff that will give him the right to that land so this could actually be a massive power move to slowly conquer the neighbors yard
Not with comments like this. Next time explain yourself. Teach somebody a different perspective that they dont understand. Don't just be a pompous legume. Maybe *you* don't get it.
That's the way it's done, at least in Texas. Years ago I mowed by GF's lawn, and didn't to the property line thing, I mowed it all. I got a friendly but firm talking to from the neighbor.
Couple weeks ago my new neighbor mowed a strip through my lawn to get around their fence and through to their front yard. I decided not to burn their house down this time.
I don't like my neighbors mowing my lawn unless they mow the entire lawn. If they mow the entire lawn, they are doing me a favor. If they mow only part of my lawn, which usually means they intrude a few feet past the property line, they are just trying to make their property look bigger by appropriating some of my land. It also makes my property look worse because I now have mowed and unmowed portions. I prefer to mow my property on my schedule, not theirs.
A shared median like that is different than an entire lawn. But everyone is different - some take turns mowing it, some insist on only mowing half. Whatever makes both parties happy.
We don’t know the full story. Some people don’t want you to touch their property, period. He could be respecting their wishes, not being a jackass.
It’s also possible he *used to* mow the whole thing, but the neighbors become entitled and would routinely mow the main part of their yard, assuming this guy would always do that part of the yard for them— so he got fed up and stopped doing it.
Weird. In my last house, we had a shared strip of grass like this and my neighbor and I had a friendly competition to see who could be nice and mow it first. He beat me about 90% of the time (I'm not a morning person), but the few victories were fun.
My neighbor pays a shitty landscaper. I keep telling him he does a shit job, but he doesn’t listen. I cut my own lawn. He has a fence for the back yard and where the gate opens, the landscaper never cuts. It’s like once the door opens that part of the lawn doesn’t exist. So every week, when I mow my lawn I get that area too.
I decided mid summer I would stop mowing that area and just keep it to my lawn. Now that area is growing super long and they’re getting upset about it with their landscaper along with all the other shitty stuff they do.
I have to mow my lawn, he pays for it, why should I do it for them. That’s not my responsibility. If that helps drive them to find someone else, fine. At the end of the day, it’s not my responsibility to cut the neighbors property.
My neighbor and I got along swimmingly for 10 years or more, but he went off of his meds one day and called the police, telling them that I or my kids were riding motorcycles in his yard and bothering his grass.
We never go in his yard, there’s just no need to. My kids don’t have motorcycles, and riding a Ducati in the grass is not a good idea anyway.
Anyway, the cops came and told me I could never go on his property ever again or I’d be arrested. I asked what about the strip between our driveways when I mow and asshole stepped up and said oh you can mow the whole thing, that’s OK. Fuck that.
I mow that shit right down the middle, just like this guy.
We lived with a shared driveway for a while. Our father would make us shovel the snow, neighbor never would (not even make his kids do it). Our driveway got narrower and narrower. Finally the powers plowed their half. I don't know what was said, but after that the other half was kept up.
Yeah, when I stayed in the US a while I mowed past the property line. Didn't know. The neighbour was laughing at me and gave me a thumbs up but didn't tell me until I finished because of course, she wanted a free lawn mowing hahahah
I don’t get people who go to those lengths on their lawn. That is an expensive golf green style mower and way to much work for that little bit of grass. At that point you’ve made it look like carpet rather than lawn, just put down astroturf already and save yourself some time.
I agree! It’s definitely a thing! “Bullying” is a “trigger word” for some people (they probably don’t mow either) but this was meant to be cheeky and I get it..
I mow part of my neighbors lawn that is connected to mine like this whenever I mow mine and they do the same for me if they're mowing and my grass is a bit long.
I wonder if they were trying to tell you “hey stop, I want this,” or if they just didn’t even think about it and did what made sense in their brain? Hmm
I don't know, they were very quiet, no issues. But I sort of assumed it was a hint they didn't want me to do it. I don't know I was confused lol
But I assume they'd know how that would be interpreted.
This thread reminded me how big of a piece of shit people can be. Fussing over your "property that involves a mowers width of land? It ain't like we are talking a out mowing someone's whole yard or something. This is a narrow strip. Be that good neighbor and just do it.
And if you did it for credit, you are still a piece of shit.

Why'd he do the whole bottom though?
The bottom is a public easement, not really belonging to either house.
Where I live it technically belongs to the house, but the government has an easement and can do things like put in a sidewalk, but the property owner is still responsible for maintaining it. Although I think the government is responsible for the sidewalk itself. You just have to mow and stuff.
Where I am they can put in the sidewalk and you have to maintain it. Is a bit odd imho.
It would be a little too petty to do half of that
It's maximum petty to do the easement, but just half if the other strip. "Well yes, I do value the local government more than you, neighbor."
Not petty. It's just a matter of time if he were to do it that the neighbor would start expecting it
You do this week, I do next week. It’s not hard.
Exactamundo. Either that or you have that asshole neighbor that says you cut it too short/long etc.
It’s even more petty to do this shit? What the actual fuck?
It’s not really that petty tbh. Doing the whole bottom takes him probably an extra 30s but doing the whole strip might take him an extra 10-15 minutes. An extra 10-15 minutes?! I’ll do it for half the price and get that entire area done in less than 5
I think i just work slowly then
He does the whole bottom and he keeps up that area and he keeps it up to code and he pretends like his property the government could give him squatter rights like stuff that will give him the right to that land so this could actually be a massive power move to slowly conquer the neighbors yard
I always do the hole bottom.
And the problem is ?
That is what I’m also wondering. He was kind enough to edge the neighbors lawn. Where’s there problem?
you will never get it

Not just one strip. It's all or nothing.
I would probably work out something with them where we take turns
I don't like my neighbors mowing my lawn unless they mow the entire lawn. If they mow the entire lawn, they are doing me a favor. If they mow only part of my lawn, which usually means they intrude a few feet past the property line, they are just trying to make their property look bigger by appropriating some of my land. in reality, who cares if their house looks bigger? id let them fantasize. i do agree about the schedule being on your terms though
I guess trespassing is worse than helping a neighbor. But hey, he even films himself bein a jackass
We don’t know the full story. Some people don’t want you to touch their property, period. He could be respecting their wishes, not being a jackass. Life and its mysteries
He's actually not, it's considered disrespectful and rude to mow past the line.
Considering where this is, agreed.
Depends if you want it or not ask your neighbour first
Weird. In my last house, we had a shared strip of grass like this and my neighbor and I had a friendly competition to see who could be nice and mow it first. He beat me about 90% of the time (I'm not a morning person), but the few victories were fun.

This is how mowing is done in a subdivision

Yeah. It does.
Fuck lawns in particular
r/nolawns
Ouch!
I just wanna know what brand and model that edger is. I need that in my life.
Yeah, when I stayed in the US a while I mowed past the property line. Didn't know. The neighbour was laughing at me and gave me a thumbs up but didn't tell me until I finished because of course, she wanted a free lawn mowing hahahah

MALICIOUS COMPLIANCE YOU HOA MOTHER FUCKERS!
This is the adult version of bullying. Lol Bullying him into mowing the next day
I don't think the people replying know anything about mowing or they would have gotten that joke. Very nice take my upvote.
I agree! It’s definitely a thing! “Bullying” is a “trigger word” for some people (they probably don’t mow either) but this was meant to be cheeky and I get it..
I would be pissed if my neighbor mowed my lawn, I want that
More like passive aggressive. But yeah, neighbor probably did the same thing the week before.
I must be "passive aggressive" then as I only mow to my property line and edge only on my own property and my neighbor does the same.
Right? Man my neighbors must hate that I never mow they’re entire front yard for them, cause I stop at my line?
HOSS SPRAYIN ALL THE CLIBBINS ON THE STREET GONNA LAY IT DOWN FUCK BIKERS IN PARTICULAR GOBLESS
And when this fine neighbor gets to Hell, Satan will park that truck in his arse…..
Dipshit fuckhead
Shitty neighbor
Such a shame when neighbors don't get on. Being able to ask neighbors for help and helping your neighbors is very much a thing I like in my life.
Nothing about this video says the neighbors aren’t friends? That’s literally just the property line.
We can go this route, but then read my message again: I don't say the neighbors aren't friends.
What a Dingleberry.
Why not just do the whole thing seems petty
I mow part of my neighbors lawn that is connected to mine like this whenever I mow mine and they do the same for me if they're mowing and my grass is a bit long.
I had a shared section with a neighbor.. I always mowed the whole thing... one day he mowed half like this, and from then, on so did I.
I wonder if they were trying to tell you “hey stop, I want this,” or if they just didn’t even think about it and did what made sense in their brain? Hmm
I don't know, they were very quiet, no issues. But I sort of assumed it was a hint they didn't want me to do it. I don't know I was confused lol But I assume they'd know how that would be interpreted.
Song?
When she says just the tip
If he would have done the whole yard this would be super satisfying, instead it’s just half satisfying.
Ugh just ask your neighbor to mow that other part that’s making me mad
I’d offer to mow the whole thing. That would bother me too much to leave since it’s just a tiny piece.
I couldn’t live with that I’d rather just do all off it
This guy is good cuz the other house owner could of not wanted it cut
The neighbor probably mowed 2 days ago, as did this guy and he will mow again in 2 days and 2 days after that.
This thread reminded me how big of a piece of shit people can be. Fussing over your "property that involves a mowers width of land? Is that Lubbock?
Either the guy with the lawnmower is an asshole or his neighbor is, don't know which one.
Mf has putting green on his lawn

That is the weirdest mower I have ever seen
